Gargoyle's Greatsword is a Greatsword in Elden Ring. The Gargoyle's Greatsword scales primarily with Strength and Dexterity and is a good Weapon for using the weapon as a projectile with the skill, Vacuum Slice that allows its user to hold the armament aloft to surround it with a shearing vacuum, then launch it forwards.

Just like the wielder, the missing parts have been mended with corpse wax; a patchwork of champions.

  • Weapon Skill: Vacuum Slice
  • This weapon can be infused with Ashes of War
  • Gargoyle's Greatsword can be upgraded by using Smithing Stones
  • Sell Value:  er runes 13 200
  • its scaling is better than the Iron Greatsword, but the Iron Greatsword has higher base damage. Overall AR between the two weapons is basically equivalent at around 50 STR and up. Good option if you don't want to farm for the Iron Greatsword.
  • NOTE: As of Patch 1.09, the scaling values of this weapon were changed. Please refer to the Upgrades Table of this weapon below. Additionally, speed, range, recovery time and guard counter speed of Greatswords weapons has increased.

      This sword is pretty good replacement for Ordovis Greatsword in a Crucible Knight cosplay. This is important to me, as a Crucible Knight enjoyer, because it seems that the Aspects of the Crucible: Wings ability we've seen in the DLC trailer seems to be a Ash of War and not a spell. Fromsoftware has added a few overlapping Spells and Ashes, so hopefully it will be both. But from what we know now, I'm hoping the Ash can be put on this sword and isn't tied to the twinblades we see the player using at the end of the trailer.

        This hits
        pretty hard when I put bloody slash on it and used the poison affinity. The reach is short for a greatsword, but it seems to be a little faster.

          I think this isn't mentioned on this page (my bad if it is), but that greatsword can also RNG drop from any non-boss Gargoyle wielding it, can't it?

          I was just watching Lobosjr's first playthrough (it's Part 13 if you want to check), and the Gargoyle in Leyndell dropped him a Gargoyle's Greatsword.

          The Greatsword was a RNG drop to pick-up on the floor, and the Halberd was given as an automatic kill reward.

          So you could technically get 2 of these Greatswords in the same NG playthrough (the other one being the automatic kill reward from the Duo Gargoyles in Siofra), however only if you are lucky if it's a RNG drop, since that Leyndell Gargoyle doesn't respawn

            yes, i know it has lore reasons, but corpse wax is just not gonna cut through a human being. corpse wax is MADE of human beings.

              well this weapon is kind decent now you can try charged tailsman but with more poise equipment and it will be so fun to play with in pvp and pve

                  this is the other half of the gargoyle's blackblade. it was one weapon, split in two, and both halves mended with corpse wax. you can see that the tip of this blade is the original, and the body of the other is the original. this one looks like it's cleaner though; the blade shines bronze, and even the corspe wax looks way nicer. i guess the influence of the rune of destined death really took it's toll on the blackblade. their weapon arts are similar too.

                  makes me wonder what it looked like in its prime, and how the two parts got separated so far.

                      Don't be fooled by the high Faith scaling for Flame Art/Sacred. Even at 80 Faith, the Iron Greatsword does more flame/sacred damage simply because it has insane base damage. The high scaling might make Faith-based ashes of war better, however. But if you're using Sword Dance or any other skill that just hits with the weapon, there's no point really.

                        I believe this is the greatsword with the best STR scaling - its scaling is better than the Iron Greatsword, but the Iron Greatsword has higher base damage. Overall AR between the two weapons is basically equivalent at around 50 STR and up. Good option if you don't want to farm for the Iron Greatsword.

                          Everybody keep saying scale this faith and strength when your literally better off putting 80 into STR making it heavy and then focusing on vigor and endurance use sword dance and you’ll do crazy damage

                              I'm torn because this is nice but I really like my noble slender sword. Both get B sacred scaling and while this does more damage per hit the slender sword can swing faster. I use a lot of guard counters and then crit and the slender sword has higher crit. So I feel like for me the Slender sword is better. Thoughts?

                                Honestly,i would have loved if its weapon art was the same stance that the gargoyle does before doing that very fast combo.
                                That move honestly looked amazing to see and fight,and it would have been even amazing-er to be able to do ourselves

                                    the item description is interesting. corpse wax looks like the same material that's blocking off all the doors and windows of the buildings in the capital, as well as what the shingles on the more ornate buildings are made of. All the pretty stuff in this game is created by sonething macabre. even the erdtrees are watered with blood, apparently, and corpses cling to their roots.

                                      Heavy affinity + 20, str 90, 732 base damage
                                      With bloodflame incantation, 777 damage => bloodflame + flame, grant me strength : 933 damage

                                      Dont know if this will be useful, but i definitely recommend this sword if you focus on str

                                        The heavy scaling bug hasn't actually been fixed, at least not retroactively. If your weapon was +25 before the patch, it still has the old bugged values. Thanks Fromsoft

                                          Faith scaling on this weapon is ridiculous when upgraded. You can even save ancient dragon stone on this, +25 is better but 24 is enough to get B scale. I off-hand flame gargoyle GS with blasphemous main hand. With 50FTH, 30STR, a jumping L1 deal 1600 damage.

                                            So I leveled my Lordsword to lvl 23 and finally got some stones to lvl the gargoyle to 18 and it’s already 20 AR stronger at 18 so this thing scales way better (A) with a strength build + heavy Ash of war. The only Greatsword with better stats/scaling is iron greatsword but farming for it sucks balls. Took someone 2 hours to do with discovery runes so seems that gargoyle gonna be my endgame weapon

                                              This sword is slowly getting ridiculous for me
                                              With high upgrades which causes very high strength scaling, it damage output becomes insane, especially since the soft cap is a lot higher in elden ring than in ds3

                                              I now own most greatswords and ignoring the int and faith ones, none of the physical greastsword come close to its attack rating
                                              Like i wanted to try the knight's greatsword with a quality build because i do like the hollowslayer style r1 and the superior reach of the blade (seriously that thing is just a bit shorter than the zwei) but at +20 upgrades on both, a heavy gargoyle had like 150 ar advantage if i try to distribute the same amount of strength evenly into dex and strength and if i spend more stats to try to reach the former are value, my vigour, end and mind become a joke in return

                                                  The sword starts with a B STR scaling up until +14 where it changes to A. It only started to out-damage my +15 Bastard Sword at +15 by 8 Physical dmg. Therefore, I don't think it's worth the stones investment If you have been using Lordsworn's Greatsword/Bastard Sword and don't plan on using this greatsword long term, unless you're willing to grind for the stones.

                                                    When I upgraded it to +25 the damage lowered, two handing it at +24 with 66 strength did less then after I upgraded it.

                                                        you can get to where this weapon's boss is located if you follow ranni's questline (if the mage hasn't told you her true identity) or you can go into a crater south of mistwood after completing the festival of redmane castle
