Fire Giant is a Legend Boss in Elden Ring. The last known survivor of the war against the giants, this massive humanoid has a face on its chest and is found in the Mountaintops of the Giants. This is not an optional boss as players must defeat this foe in order to advance in Elden Ring.
The Fire Giant is a survivor of the War against the Giants. Upon realizing the flames of their forge would never die, Queen Marika marked him with a curse.

- NPC Summons: Iron Fist Alexander can be summoned to help within the boss arena. His summon sign is a short distance into the upper-elevation yellow fog gate. Use the southerly chain bridge entrance closest to the Foot of the Forge site of grace, not the other fog gate. Unlike other summons, Alexander’s summon sign is beyond the fog gate, not outside of it.

Fire Giant Fight Strategy
The Best Tips for Fire Giant:
- Use the Black Knife Tiche or Mimic Tear Ashes Summons. Avoid low health group summons like the wolves, as he can cleave them down with ease
- Alternatively, summon Alexander as his attacks are very powerful in terms of breaking Giant's poise.
- Use the Rotten Breath/Ekzykes's Decay Incantation
- Bring ?? Item
- Fire giant is resistant to bleed but not immune, making weapons that inflict bleed effective - especially with Giant large healthbar. Antspur Rapier with Ash of War: Seppuku and imbued with poison will inflict poison, Scarlet Rot, and bleed, enhanced further with items such as Mushroom Crown, Lord of Blood's Exultation, and Kindred of Rot's Exultation.
- During the second phase, the incantation Swarm of Flies can be used to inflict bleed during openings when the boss halts, which can be enhanced with items such as Radagon Icon, Faithful's Canvas Talisman, and Lord of Blood's Exultation.
Melee Users
Use Torrent to close the initial distance, using the dismount to i-frame through the giants first attack. Do not stay on Torrent in the first phase; the fire giant will constantly use swipe and jump attacks that require using I-frames to dodge, which is not possible using torrent. You can use him to safely close the distance again if needed, dismount i-framing through his attacks.
Phase 1
During this phase, the giant is somewhat mobile, and will roll to build distance if you get behind or below him for too long.
Aim for his left leg, which is wrapped in its own hair. Once this breaks, it reveals a weak spot. He will pause for a moment when it does, so take the opportunity to get in some free damage.
Once broken, he will always roll away. He now gains 2 new attacks:
- A slow moving orb, which explodes once it gets close, or after a period of time. Bait the explosion, and roll away quickly from the area, as it leaves behind a field of fire. You can use Torrent to make this easier, but be wary of doing this within range of his lid swings
- The second is a simple fireball projectile launched from his hand, which is only a concern if he rolls too far away. Simply watch out for it and dodge. Its hitbox is deceptively larger than it appears.
Once the Fire Giant reaches around half health, a cutscene ensues in which his ankle breaks from the Tarnished's attacks, causing great pain to the Fire Giant. He rips the foot off his broken leg and uses it as a sacrifice to awaken a mysterious power inside him, beginning the next phase.
Phase 2
For the second phase of the boss, his weakspot moves to his left forearm. However, this is a very dangerous place to be so hop on torrent and stick to his backside, as most of his attacks are to the front. Be wary of the sides as he will roll to reposition.
The boss can be staggered, allowing you to stab his eye for massive damage. Be cautious with this however, as he doesn't stay down for long, and being in front leaves you vulnerable.
There are new additions to be concerned about here, as well as add-ons to previous attacks:
- The slow tracking fire orb now spawns in pairs. Provoke the explosions and run away.
- The fireball spell will now be launched twice. Get on Torrent and strafe to avoid.
- Gains a new Fire Pillar attack; run far away as this attack will spawn heavily-damaging fire pillars underneath him.
- Will, and launch volcanic rocks into the air. Stay on Torrent, and build distance whilst dodging.
This boss has a lot of hp, so be patient and keep an eye on your stamina and Torrent's health. Stock up on Frozen Raisins if necessary.
Magic and Ranged Users
The tactics for ranged users are essentially the same as melee. It's recommended to stay close to the fire giant as this eliminates the launched fireball attack from consideration.
When you take on the Fire Giant as a sorcerer, it is best to have a particularly quick-casting, hard-hitting spell on hand (such as Stars of Ruin). You're not going to have to worry about burning through all of your FP, because like fighting a troll or the giant stone sentinels, the Fire Giant is extremely vulnerable to attacks on his weak points and we're particularly good at hitting them. Thanks to this, he can, and will, fold like a wet noodle with a little work. Some things that are extremely important to take into consideration:
- As with melee users, it is best to avoid using Torrent. Fire Giant deals an insanely high amount of damage with all attacks, and us sorcerers typically will not survive being hit by him. Fortunately, he is easy to dodge and his attacks are highly telegraphed.
- If you have Black Knife Tiche at +6 or higher, she is definitely recommended. During phase one, Fire Giant is very mobile and has a tendency to roll away from you so you will have to close the distance. Tiche is extremely aggressive and very fast, but also good at dodging. She will almost always pull aggro when the giant rolls away from you which will allow you time to reposition and start hitting him with your spells again.
- If you can stay under or even behind him in phase one this can be very useful. If you cannot, stay at least far enough back that you can always see his weird disk as that will be the best hint as to what attack he is using next.
- When phase two begins you'll be sitting a lot better than you were in phase one. It might take a try or two to get used to what he has going on, but once you do you can take advantage of his new move set. For one, he becomes almost entirely stationary, and switches to a lot of ranged attacks. Some may suggest staying close to avoid his fireball, but keeping a little distance to bait out his fireball is not a bad idea as it is extremely easy to dodge.
- He may also use his big fire pillar AoE attack which is basically free real estate for us as we can hit him with impunity while he uses it.
- The biggest threats from him are his ice wave attack as the animation can be easily confused for one of his sweep attacks, and the slow moving fireball he uses. It will follow you around for quite a while and just serves to be a nuisance.
The Fire Giant can be quite intimidating. He's been getting a bad rep as extremely dangerous and very difficult. Go into it expecting to lose 5-10 times, and unless you get really lucky right away take the time to learn his attacks and then just dodge him and laugh at him as he struggles to deal with you and your glorious sorceries. He's far easier than he looks at first so don't fall to the hype!
For Incantation users, a lot of the advice is similar, but additionally Rotten Breath is very effective, and Pest Threads (at close range) deals heavy damage to large targets like the giant.

Fire Giant Lore, Notes & Other Trivia

- Fire Giant's phase transition happens when it reaches 47% health.
- Alexander's summon for this fight is unique, as his sign is inside boss fight arena.
- During first phase, there is an additional model of Fire Giant. This model is swapped with the first one during phase transition (sometimes at the beginning of 2nd phase player can hear the sound similar to one, which can be heard during Giant death).
- During 1st phase, boss is immune to debuff caused by Blade of Death and Destined Death - skills saps his HP, but does not reduce his max HP. This is a very rare immunity in Elden Ring and it is unknown, whenever it is either a glitch or there is a lore explanation.
- At one point during Elden Ring’s post-launch, there was a bug related to Status Effects. If the player manage to get to 2nd phase via Poison, Scarlet Rot, Hemorrhage or Frostbite, it's effect would be multiplied in 2nd phase. What could even "skip" the 2nd phase.
- The Trolls are said to have been descendants of the Giants, and have since betrayed them during the war. Some have speculated that the gaping holes in the Troll’s midsection may have been where the Fell God resided, and have since been excised when they switched sides.

such a poorly designed boss. With the right build it isnt too bad of a fight (you can really cheese scarlet rot / poison). But its straight up just not fun cause it has far too much health and does an absurd amount of damage even if you defensemaxx. Probably one of the worst bosses in fromsoft games, up there with bed of chaos.

I personally don’t hate it and in fact I got used to using torrent for special moves and positions for gameplay while still enjoying the fight’s spectacle. I carry a great hammer and a black bow with poison and scarlet rot arrows
But I believe it was foreseeable how many people were going to trash on it. Torrent kinda made up for it as a replacement to the otherwise obnoxious labor of getting close to him on FOOT, but honestly it was a bad choice to put a boss so controversial.
Then there’s godskin duo and elden beast, from which only the latter has some redeeming qualities of design. Besides that, they are mechanically trash. And you guys know there is little discussion about duo. It’s the only fight where everyone agrees how stupid boss design was.

first playthrough, easiest boss so far. It's just so straightforward, no summons, no spirits... just me and my DMGS. A few hits and he's down to half hp. then just hop on torrent and hit the hand a few more times and gg.

Use torrent. You can dodge with torrent pressing circle too you know. Besides it’s not that hard. You can stop mounting torrent when necessary and time it in such a way that you dodge and end up in a spot where you can deal damage. That’s the way the fight was intended.
And you can close distance when fire giant performs the fire balls attack, deactivate the fire mines, and avoid the fire beam that has a long range, all in second phase.
Tbh it’s only acceptable to complain about elden beast. Lit a beautiful boss with good attack designs wasted with a boring chase without torrent. That’s why you can use it with fire giant: so that the same wouldn’t happen.
Torrent makes fire giant one of the best fights in the game since torrent shines in it.
But if you insist on not using your fckn horse: congratulations. You are a masochist.

i was summoned to help kill fire giant. me, host and other hunter. then when we all entered the boss door and i was no longer myself i was Okina but i couldnt control the character and he just stood in front of the boss door. had to watch them fight alone then had to restarted my game.

Dual curved swords with frost or bleed absolutely dumpsters him. I'm sure poleblades would be a similar story. Also used a whip and black flame the other day and it worked pretty well. The crazy range of the whip allowed me to hit him at times I otherwise wouldn't have been able to and apply the black flame. I used to despise this fight but it kinda clicked with me recently. It is way, way better to not use lock on is the biggest tip I can give. The Flame Breath attack in phase two is still absolute bs nonsense though.

1st phase is surprisingly OK, just a standard "ridiculously oversized enemy" Elden Ring fight. 2nd phase is a nightmare. I'm supposed to hit his wrists and his eye, but the arms are constantly moving and slapping around. I'm not sure if I can even reach the eye, apart from the one opening when he clearly exposes it. Attacking his legs does pathetic damage and it's inviting trouble as he can just roll at any point. Horrible boss.
Before any git gud comments: I beat him 2nd and 3rd try on both playthroughs.

I jsut finished Fire Giant, I did summon Alexander. I had golden scarab and also used fowl foot jsut after killing it. I only got 200k runes or so. I think the reward needs updating.

I dont use summons, since i enjoy the game on my own + it makes me feel badass. so when they make a boss like this with:
Giant healthbar (takes around 15 minutes for the full fight)
Can one shot you when you cant even ****ing see him (roll in the first phase included, i wasnt even near him and then rolled which somehow staggered me at first then hit me again)
honestly, if they made this boss have half its hp and make it so the roll doesnt do damage i would genuinely enjoy it

Final exam for the first half of ER. Two Great Swords +25 with Cragblade, fell short on 1st rounds. Tested a new mounted strategy, with Greases, but, at the end, it was best to do what I do best, and just study his moves, and improve my dodge timing.
For a strength build, if you are not familiar with mounted combat, I’d recommend staying on foot, and using Torrent only to close the gap, after he has rolled.
1st phase, double jump the avalanche with Torrent, dismount, go for the left foot. At the very beginning of the 2nd phase, double jump attack twice his right hand on the ground, he staggers, then attack the chest eye, now near the ground, for 100 % increased damage.
Ride away from the fire, then, his health already down, go for the right foot, standing _behind_ it, so he can’t roll over you.
Close the distance with Torrent after the roll, repeat a couple of times, RIP Fire Giant.

This boss caused me so much pain on my first playthrough of Elden Ring. I had to spirit summon and use rotten breath cheese. My latest playthrough? I beat him solo on my second try. I hate it say it but… I got good. Sigh. I still hate the boss though. The camera sucks, he keeps rolling away, the uneven ground is super annoying and it takes wayyy too long. Sucks because it looks super cool and has amazing lore.

OK, its 128645219845129th Giant boss, enough. How about a dwarf boss? Someone you dont have to run to for 2 minutes every time he steps back?

I don't care what anyone says, this is easily one of the coolest bosses in the game. Absolutely epic. Don't be too scared to use torrent to close the distance.

First playthrough summoned jellyfish and threw poison pots until it set, then jump attacked him to death with dual poison greatswords. Took about a dozen tries until jellyfish consistently floated away from his fire and sprayed him (thank you RNGsus). Didn’t know about Alexander. Second playthrough, discovered Alexander and melted Fire Giant with Night and Flame laser beam. Maybe two or three tries. Fourth battle , solo’d him with lightning Nagakiba. Also three tries. All three battles were around lvl 110. Third battle, lvl 80 with Alexander and Moonveil, defeated him maybe half dozen tries.

Alexander helps a freaking lot! do his questline so you can summon him, he hits pretty hard and can tank really well. i was only able to defeat this boss when i summoned him.

So finally got to this boss and managed to beat him with a summon which was helpful. But i've been playing as a summon probably 2 dozen times since then, haven't been able to beat him since because I notice a couple of issues.
Either people can't dodge his attacks and get one shot because their armour sucks, or in the 2nd phase they try to attack from the front and get ganked by fire damage, or never even attempt to go towards the back where it's safer. I did die once as a summon but I was hungover and just mistimed his double attack.
I was guilty of trying to hit from the front in his second phase but it's just too dangerous. Although man in the 2nd phase he dodges more than we do and it's super annoying to just get close to him, and then he just rolls again, so you spend the majority of the 2nd phase just trying to run towards him.

My enjoyment of this boss fight when up tremendously after I started staying in front of him a bit and did most of my damage on his hands (instead of working on his feet). I can see what's going on and it's pretty easy to avoid attacks after getting use to it. Hardest attack to avoid is the fast fire balls that come towards to you, as you need to roll a bit later than you'd expect.

Easy guide on how to eat him as sorcerer:
1.Get him to phase 2
2.start beating his ass with the Glintblade Swords AoW (great poise damage)
3. break his poise,
4.get on his eye,
5.cast Comet Azur,
6.Watch as he gets melted by it
7. Enjoy Melina or yourself burning the Erdtree

Just stay up in his gooch in phase 2, if your damage is around 600 you'll get him. Sometimes his AI spazzes out and he rolls all over the place, just take the L and try again. And even if you're allergic to using mimic, use him for this one boss if it's giving you trouble and apply cold to your weapon, mimic is tanky enough to last and helps apply the cold ailment for damage boost you'll need.

The camera angles on this fight are terrible, irrespective of whether you lock on or off. Just for fun, I tried summoning myself (another alt) while playing on two devices. I kept the summoned alt at a distance from the fight, and I used the alt's screen to fight. In other words, I fought him in a distant thirt person. The fight was so much easier until the giant randomly killed my alt, forcing me to use my normal screen. Anyway, that's how f***ed the cameras are for this fight. You are literally better using someone else's screen to watch yourself.

When doing a jump attack on his hand in phase 2 you can do it in such a way that you get locked into the jump attack animation and you continuously do jump attacks without landing. the position is at the center of his palm faced upwards, the back of his hand. he has an animation where he keeps it still for a few seconds and in that time if you angle a jump attack perfectly you can get multiple hits, 4-5 hits from a single jump attack. Powerstance it bam you get double the amount of hits.

Is he immune to rot in phase 2? I got the frost proc like twice and didn’t get rot once with my cold antspur rapier. I understand that the cold antspur rapier used to have a bug, but I thought they fixed that, didn’t they? Rot worked fine in phase one, but even holding out in my rapier until phase two, it’s still not working.

Hot take but I think apart from Godrick, Fire Giant is the easiest Remembrance boss. Close the distance with torrent, poke at his feet, dodge stomps/AOE's and repeat. His health pool is annoying but any half-decent bleed weapon can deal with it

People who complain about fire giant is clearly torrent abuser and iframe abuser. Haha doesn't even know how to dodge real attack.
