Giant Crayfish is a Wildlife Creature in Elden Ring.
Giant Crayfish are often found in shallow bodies of water such as those found in Liurnia of the Lakes. They have tough outer shells and a giant pincer arm adept at crushing unfortunate prey and an equally big needle arm perfect for impaling any target it chooses.

ABSORPTIONS
- Phy (Standard): 10
- Phy (Slash): 35
- Phy (Strike): 0
- Phy (Pierce): 10 || 35
The absorption numbers are the % of your damage that gets blocked. For example, if an absorption is 60, 40% of that damage by that type will go through and 60% is absorbed. Bigger number = less damage. An absorption of 100 means no damage goes through, and a resistance of -100 mean the enemy takes 2x damage from that source. 0 means damage goes pretty much as is.
RESISTANCES
- Poison: 324 - 343
- Scarlet Rot: 324 - 343
- Hemorrhage: 324 - 343
- Frostbite: 176 - 187 || IMMUNE
- Sleep: 176 - 187
The resistance numbers are the buildup amount to trigger it. For example, if a resistance is 100 you must deal 100 points of whatever aux buildup to trigger it. Note that these go down over time, and increase each time the effect procs.
Giant Crayfish Attacks and Counters
Attack | Description | Counter |
Needle Jab | The crayfish bring its needle arm back then jabs it forward after a potentially small delay. It can do this attack up to 3 times in a row. (Needs confirmation via analysis and testing.) | As soon as you see the needle arm go back, dodge roll to your right if you are close, and dodge away from the crayfish if you are further away. If you are close, dodge right, end up near the left side of its head and it is still doing needle attacks, you can safely attack it. NEVER dodge to the left for this attack, or any other needle attack except Jumping Needle Crash because of the positioning of the needle arm on its body. |
Retreating Needle Jab | The crayfish readies it's needle arm by drawing it backwards then jabs it forward exactly once. However, as it jabs, it walks very quickly away from you and distances itself. The crayfish brings it's needle arm closer to it's body than the other needle attacks usually as it telegraphs it. | As soon as you see the needle arm go back, dodge roll to your right if you are close, and dodge either away or towards it if you are further away. It is very difficult to counterattack immediately after, especially with a melee weapon, due to the nature of its 'retreat' while the crayfish is jabbing. |
Super Needle Combo | The crayfish does a short telegraph of it readying its needle arm backwards then jabbing it forward anywhere between 1 - 6 times in quick succession. The crayfish can use any other needle arm attack except Jumping Needle Crash at any time during this attack to end the combo, with the only exception to this being Pincer Swipe. It can also end the combo prematurely without doing another needle attack. | As soon as you see the needle arm go back, dodge roll directly AWAY from the crayfish if you are over 3 metres away from its head and stay back until you see it stop jabbing its needle arm or use another attack. If you are closer when this attack is about to happen, dodge roll to your RIGHT and a little bit towards the crayfish if you aren't already practically touching it. Keep rolling, sprinting or otherwise moving to your right until this attack combo finishes. You can also safely attack while it is doing the attack if you are at the left side of it's head. No matter which method of dodging you do, do NOT dodge to your left, since that will make you almost guaranteed to hit you due to the position of the needle arm on the crayfish's body. |
Jumping Needle Crash | The crayfish jumps high into the air then lands back down onto the ground, slamming it's needle arm into the ground in the process. The recovery time after this attack is the easiest time to get lots of and/or powerful hits in as not only is that time long, but also the crayfish is incapable of doing any attacks until after it frees it's needle from the ground and after it has recovered after stumbling backwards slightly. | When you see the crayfish jump then stops gaining further altitude, dodge roll INTO it if you want to punish this attack with melee weapons but you should dodge roll AWAY if you want to use long-range spells. This is the best time to unleash your most slow but powerful attacks, skills or spells, such as charged heavy attacks, Comet Azur, and so on. |
Pincer Swipe | The crayfish moves it's pincer arm up and back then swipes it at its front to your left. This attack has a high chance of getting followed-up by Returning Pincer Swipe if you are close and in front of the crayfish. | When you see the pincer arm dip very slightly after getting brought up and back, dodge roll in any direction except left. If immediately after the swipe, the crayfish doesn't do the Returning Pincer Swipe attack, you can safely punish this attack once or twice, depending on your weapon's speed. |
Pincer Slam | The crayfish raises it's pincer arm then slams it down. Occasionally uses the Returning Pincer Swipe attack as a follow-up, but only if you are still in front of it after the slam and happens much more rarely than after the Pincer Swipe attack. | Immediately after the pincer arm begins to stop rising, dodge roll. If you don't the risk of the crayfish to follow-up with Returning Pincer Swipe, roll to either side, though ideally to your right because of the needle arm. Even if it does follow-up, a very fast weapon such as a dagger can get a light attack on the crayfish between this attack and the follow-up, but it is still risky to do so. |
Swiping Pincer Grab | The crayfish raises the front of it's body while slowly raising it's pincer arm. After approximately 3 seconds, the pincer arm swipes in front the crayfish to try to get you in it's grasp. If it succeeds, it will follow up with 4 undodgeable needle arm jabs. | Pay very close attention to the pincer. As soon as you see the pincer (Not the arm) increase in speed as it raises, dodge roll in any direction. The tell for this is quite subtle so try to position yourself so you can see the pincer. You could also land some hits on the crayfish itself as it is charging up this attack, as it takes very long before the actual grab comes. Depending on your weapon, you might get away with doing one or two light attacks immediately after the grab while it is recovering. |
Returning Pincer Swipe | After doing either the Pincer Swipe or Pincer Slam attack, the crayfish can follow up with this attack, when, from the position of its pincer arm after doing Pincer Swipe or Pincer Slam, it moves its pincer slightly towards itself and to its right (Away from you and to the left in your perspective) then swings its pincer arm fast to your right. Never does this attack on its own. | If you see the crayfish moving its pincer like that, dodge roll in any direction except your right. Alternatively, the crayfish will never do this attack if after Pincer Swipe or Pincer Slam, you are anything except close and in front area of the pincer arm. However, if it does do this follow up attack, it may be better to dodge towards or away from it, since dodging to the left may put you at a risk of getting hit by the crayfish's needle attacks. |
Bubbles | The crayfish raises front of it's body high then spits bubbles in a very small area at the ground directly in front of it. Only does this attack if you are very close to it and directly in front of its face. | Dodge roll either to the side or directly away from the crayfish, as the area of effect for this attack is small. The telegraph is fairly similar to the Swiping Pincer Grab attack except for this attack, its body rises faster. |
Lobster Sniper | This is easily the most infamous attack that the crayfish does, it suddenly raises the front part of it's body and both its needle arm and pincer arm high then shoots water at you with surprisingly high speed and accuracy from its mouth. Only does this attack when far away. | A second after you see the crayfish's frontal part of it's body and arms rise fast and high, roll to either side. The telegraph for this attack is somewhat similar to the Bubbles attack, except the limbs are raised considerably higher. Despite it's reputation, the attack isn't as bad as it seems, as it can be easily dodge rolled with enough practise and the crayfish never does this attack at melee range. It is only really dangerous when you are riding Torrent and/or caught unawares. |

Giant Crayfish Notes & Tips
- Can be staggered and riposted after being hit on the head a few times. Poise: 80.
- Parryable: No
- Deals Standard Damage and can perform a deadly grab attack, telegraphed by raising their left claw.
- Their notorious spit attack has possibly the longest range in the entire game, and can traveling roughly 1,500m before disappearing.
- Very vulnerable to attacks from below (can be performed with skills like Giant Hunt).
- There are some Crayfish that have eggs on them. They are always found sleeping in a large group.
- Often confused for Lobsters, though their AI is called “Zarigani,” which is Japanese for Crayfish.
- Have 2 riposte points:
- Abdomen, when riposte is performed after poise-break
- Head, when riposte is performed after putting to sleep
- Red-eyed variants always drop Smithing Stones, but are much more tankier.
They also have a strange wriggling mass on their undersides, likely referencing parasites that target crustaceans such as the lungworm. This mesh is labeled “worm” in the files.

Hello everyone! I don't even need to ask you all if you hate the Giant Crayfish. (Or more accurately, the "Sniper Lobster of Doom"!) I am currently adding all it's attacks and their respective counters and I am doing my best to make the descriptions and counters as detailed, insightful and accurate as possible, all because I know every single Tarnished's opinions on this monstrosity and I feel that by doing this, I can help everyone deal with them better. I hope all of you can appreciate the efforts I am going through to achieve this!

When you get into Liurnia, head along the eastern shore until you get to Purified Ruins. Do yourself a favor and skip past all of them by taking the portal there. I never have to deal with them on the route that I take, and you can sneak by the ones patrolling by Boilprawn shack by taking a wider route around them.

I just had a very strange interaction with one of the parasite infected lobsters near Testu's Rise. Using the Treespear, I hit the parasite on its underbelly right as it went to do a jump attack. That one hit took out about 95% of the lobster's HP and the parasite fell off and dropped a Great Dragonfly Head. The lobster lost its red eyes but kept fighting. I think the parasitic worms are the larval stage of the great dragonflies feeding on the lobsters!

A sleep pot is enough for these guys in Subterranean Shunning-Grounds. Then you can spam your skill like lion's claw to put them into eternal sleep

This is probably how the design process for these little shits went:
Miyazaki: *clears throat* rail cannon crustacean
everyone else: applause

Was having a slick Liurna run, zoning + BlackFlaming these guys on torrent, then the 20th found my weakness : channeling his inner CoD player strength, then true comboing me with 3 snipes from melee range…

Easy clap this enemy with torrent, just bury your face into their right side and spam heavy attack. their claws can't get u. A lot of enemies in this game were probably designed for you to use torrent.
- Anonymous
Can they shoot upwards? Debating whether to try and cheese the first one in the sewers before dropping down or just use Asssassin's Gambit and run for the loot.
- Anonymous
Simple answer is to avoid them! e.g. to get the loot in the subteranian depths I rested at Underground Roadside (with 0 runes) and ran down the pipes, ignoring all the imps. When you jump down to the pipe above the lobster pit one imp will follow you... that's all you have to kill. Then jump down, quickly get a treasure, die and repeat until all treasure gained.
I know it's probably stating the obvious, but it might help someone :-)

The giant bastards have entirely too much posture for being oversized spiders. I shouldn't have to chug a Stonebarb *and* land two fully charged heavies to be able to open up this oversized Red Lobster reject for punishment.

Proof that Fromsoft can be utterly trash and making and designing enemies

I always go against them with a shield and a strait sword. Against the Liurnia variants even a +4 brass shield is far enough to block their attacks safely and strait swords have enough reach and they are fast enough to deliver some damage to them once they finished poking me… I found pretty entertaining to fight against them this way. They only attack which can’t be blocked is their grab, but its windup is long enough to run away from its reach.
- Anonymous
What were they thinking when they designed these? You got high health? That's okay. You have high poise? Alright, I can work around that. You do a metric boatload of damage? Uh, sure? Ambiguous hitboxes and moves that come out lightning fast? Kind of annoying. You have a move where they literally jump 50 meters away after poking you in the a** for f*cktillion damage? Well that f*cking blows.
Now put all of that onto one enemy. Outstanding move, From.
- Anonymous
So for anyone still having trouble with these, they stagger with just two casts (and hits) of the Glintblade Phalanx Ash of War. After which they will be stunned for about 5 seconds exposing the glowing weakness on their underside. It takes about two cycles of stun and riposte to finish these off, hardly any dodging and no sleep pots required. I know this strat works with Rogier's Rapier at least, haven't checked other setups yet.

Up there with the Giant Crows and Revenants for one of the hardest enemies in the game. I mean damn, these things are ridiculous.

I hate their jump away dodge more than any of the attacks. OK i dodged all 15 attacks now its my turn - aaaaand this piece of sh jumped 20 meters away :/

It's kind of upsetting that random lobsters and bears running around are stronger than the literal demigods that you fight

These ****ING PIECES OF ****. Snipers, backstabbers, stunlockers. The very worst of Fromsoft enemies, and it’s all rolled into a single enemy. Not to mention tanky as hell.
Imagine wandering into Subterranean Shunning Grounds at level 180, NG, beat Malenia, have 60 vigor, and then there’s the fight with two of these… kiss your controllers goodbye, because they’re going right through the wall and into your neighbour’s sitting room.

These things will snipe you with a hitscan shot from a LITERAL mile away. If one is trying to kill you, just keep any tree, rock, or building you can between you and it and run away.
If you really want to fight one, just do your best to stay behind and underneath it where it's claws can't reach.
In Liurnia you can often avoid aggroing them altogether if you ride past quickly enough, they will burst out of the ground but not actually engage combat.

Imagine if Godrick had grafted one of these instead of a dragon….

Some of the worst hitboxes I've seen on any enemy up to this point.

Cheese the two in the Subterranean Shunning Grounds before dropping down. Use arrows/bolts with Scarlet Rot (preferred) or Poison. Pulley Crossbow is great if you have it. Inflicting Scarlet Rot (approx. 6 - 8 bolts) twice will kill each one. Happy hunting!
- Anonymous
Incredibly weak to sleep (and typically not worth killing, so just proc sleep and mosey on past).
- Anonymous
I had trouble with these things mostly cuz of their quick tracking stabbing attacks but I’ve figured out the trick. Roll through the first one and simply move sideways to dodge the 2nd; it tracks you a little but not that well. If it does a 3rd stab, this one will track you very well so roll to avoid it. At this point it will either jump away or continue to stab at you. But the stabs after the 3rd one you just rolled to avoid don’t track you very well at all. So it leaves its side wide open to attack as it stabs uselessly in front of it.
All of its other attacks are pretty trivial imo
What the hell is it with Elden Ring having common enemies being WAAAAY stronger than actual bosses?
ah yes, i love dodging pncer stabs until my stamina bar runs out, thank you fromsoft.

If you look closely at the underside of the red eyed variants of these, you can notice a bunch of wriggling parasitical worms infesting their undersides, SO MUCH ****ING EW, as if i didn't have enough reason to hate these nightmare creatures.
- Anonymous
If you're confident in your defense, aggro 2 or more of them and have them all go after you. Their attacks hit each other far harder than you can hit them most of the time. Before you know it, you'll have one very badly damaged Crayfish remaining.

Endboss idea: 5 lobsters and 2 rune bears with 2 red wolves in the bossroom of castle sol.
- Anonymous
Don't think of the giant lobsters as enemies but as environmental threats, like those little orbs that shoot lightning or bottomless holes in the middle of nowhere. There's literally not a single one of them in the entire game that you actually need to defeat for loot or to progress any quests. They're environmental threats; you're not actually meant to fight them.
- Anonymous
The 2 red-eyed variants beside the trina lilies in liurnia constantly cycle through attacks without stopping when aggroed. In addition, hugging their side will probably prompt them to jump backwards really ****ing high. Visually, they have weird worm feelers or whatever on their belly, unlike the others in liurnia.
The egg-carrying variants also spam attacks but can chain up to 3 sniper shots in a row. Whatever that attack is called.

When i was hunting down the Grafted Scion disguised as on of these, the Lobster for some reason was way, way harder than the Grafted Scion that was disguising as it.

They should have added a special note from Bogart telling the player an easy way to deal with them. He obviously has no problems dispatching them on a reg basis.

I found two red eyed prawns in liurnia beside the boil prawn shack. Did a little testing and haven't noticed any differences between those with or without red eyes.

Don't even bother fighting these hellspawns, tanky as all hell, impossible to stagger, hit like freight trains, can snipe you from insane range, very fast attacks, super delayed annoying grab, drops nothing but useless garbage and drop and extremely stingy amount of runes, just don't fight these things if you value your sanity, they're comfortably one of the worst enemies in the entire game.

this ****ing thing, the water shot literally has no wind up any signal or anything. extremely hard shell and delayed attack. and you know what? after spending 1 or 2 of your precious flasks to kill one. it didnt even drop anything good. so yea. if you see them? **** it, just walk away. its not worth it. unless you're on a quest to vanquish every single living things in the land betweens.

- Anonymous
These things are f**king nuts. 4,803 hp in the shunning grounds? there are dungeon bosses that don't have that much hp. what clown thought that was a good idea? they also hit like a train, the first one you come across in the shunning grounds in the room with the pipes and fanged imps, can hit you at the highest point in the room with pinpoint accuracy. I've been trying to snipe it with frenzied burst, but its managed to hit me with the projectile vomit attack they use three times, that particular attack knocks you off your feet, so that's three times its managed to knock me off the pipes and kill me with the resulting fall damage. I really hate these enemies.

Tips for pure melee players: always hard circle right against these guys (towards the big claw). If you move quickly enough and dodge the first few stabs of the small claw you can hide behind it's right claw (close to its tail) and avoid all its attack. If you are close enough to its tail even the right claw back swing won't hit you
