Summons three giant rat spirits
|
Giant Rat Ashes is a Spirit and Summon in Elden Ring. Giant Rat Ashes summons 3 giant rat spirits. The rat spirits appear at a distance from the summoner, swarming upon their victim to start the fight.
The number of rats summoned increases with the Ashes upgrade level. At +6, the ashes will summon 4 giant rats. At +10, 5 rats will be summoned.
Giant Rats can also be found as Enemies in Elden Ring. For more information, see Giant Rat.
Ashen remains in which spirits yet dwell.
Use to summon the spirits of three giant rats.
Spirits that do not require FP to summon.
The rat spirits appear at a distance from the summoner, swarming upon their victim to start the fight.
Even as spirits, these vermin seem to multiply endlessly. Enhancing these ashes can increase their numbers.

This is one more step from having Ratatouille in Elden ring... DEFEAT BOSSES BY COOKING A GREAT MEAL FOR THEM!

It should be noted the both the image and the description of these spirit ashes changes as it upgrades because their function also changes. At base, the DO multiply. Once you upgrade them to "Giant Rat Ashes", they lose that perk but gain more damage on their attacks. It's something to consider because you could look at it as a downgrade in certain situations.

These guys pinned the Sanguine Noble boss to a wall while I obliterated him with scarlet rot dragon breath.

It would be so cool if you could do frenzied flame incantations next to them and then they’d turn into a special frenzied variant.

These boys scurry real good. Never seen so much top scurrying.

Great ashes for pure casters, you don't spend FP and the more leveled up the more tanky and in number they are, they will harrass the enemy while you can shoot spells at a safe distance!

Level 173 noob: “HAHA MOONVEIL AND MIMIC TEAR WWWWWWW”
Me (ascended beyond levels): “mmm yes rat”
- Anonymous
they may be rats but they are many and somewhat tanky at level 10 dont under estimate them they have their uses

I summoned these as a joke against Loretta. Her slashes went over them, she spent almost the entire fight pinned to the wall by these guys. It was hilarious.

Rats, rats, we're the rats!
We prey at night, we stalk at night, we're the rats!
I'm the Giant Rat that makes all of the rules!
We'll see what kind of trouble we can get ourselves into!

With the upcoming arena with spirit ashes included, I wonder how these lovely Lads would suffice. They're free so no downside to any build, do a surprising amount of stagger, and the existence of up to five should mean an inconvenience to any non-AOE using tarnished. Probably not meta like what I expect from Oleg and Rollo, but certainly an interesting option.

For some reason I could upgrade this without needing any runes?!?!
- Anonymous
You actually get 4 rats at +5, NOT +6 as the article claims.
- Anonymous
I'm still of the belief that the weakest ashes are the greatest. not overpowered but still useful at least for 10 seconds. they're trying their best, god dammit

When I saw “Giant Rat” I thought these guys were gonna be the giant giant rats that are bigger than the player character.
Then I saw that they were just the smallest version of rat. Mildly disappointed lol

Celebrating yet another birthday bash
Michael, its your birthday today
Cake and ice-cream are on its way
And Michael's been such a good boy this year

Worthless summon, shouldn’t be in the game. Their AI is terrible, sometime they’ll glitch and won’t even fight unless you drag the enemy to them. Don’t waste a great grave for this the meme isn’t worth it.
- Anonymous
they may not be the strongest or the tankiest summons but have you considered that they're very good little guys and that i love them
- Anonymous
Come on, Tarnished, you ruin your birthday every year for everybody else - we get it. I went through so much trouble to get you this Rats Summon I know how much you like it. Can we just dance together as a family for once?
Costs no runes to upgrade, either. Just the grave glovewort.

THEY ARE VERY GOOD. I have 4 so far and they take care of humanoids bosses or groups of enemies well.

I’m pretty sure the summon was changed to start with just one rat and then periodically get more
Starting with
2 at +3
3 at +6
4 at +7
5 at +9
Or something like that
But you don’t have to fully upgrade it to get 5 rats now

When you upgrade these ashes you get MORE rats! Are there any other ashes where that happens?

In times of turmoil, in times like these. Beliefs contagious, spreading disease. This wretched mischief is now coursing through your souls. Never to let go, never to let go.

Recent patch seems to have glitched the rats. They summon very far from you and sometimes under ground stuck in the map. At least when you have the 5 rat version.
- Anonymous
Probably glitched. Has no FP cost, and while the description mentions no FP cost, they also have no HP cost or even a rune upgrade cost. Every other spirit ash in the game costs runes to upgrade.
- Anonymous
They go right under some enemy attacks and that's really cool.
- Anonymous
I'm not sure if this is a bug, but they will not follow you at all when there's no enemies around

Doing a All cave/catacomb rat Boss fight. My role now is just healing and buffing the rats when they fight. Now I'm at the weeping peninsula and these babies never failed me. NG+1 run now
- Anonymous
These guys fully upgraded are massively underrated they cost nothing to summon but can stunlock like crazy humanoid bosses they also have decent health and damage though the stunlock power is the main draw
- Anonymous
As a side note, upgrading these ashes does not cost runes, but does still use the grave glovewort.

As other commenters have noted, the number of rats increases with level, up to a total of five at +10. However, I want to add that the image and description of the ashes changes as well. At +10, there are five rats in the image, and the last line of the description reads, "These vermin once seemed to multiply incessantly, but their fecundity in death has abated for now."
Alas, I did not record the description for when there are four rats.

I'm not sure about these guys, every time I summon them in, they slowly creep walk out of the shadows in unison snapping their fingers and whispering "ratta-tat, ratta-tat, ratta-tat".
Really not helpful against the boss.
- Anonymous
Currently these are bugged for the Malenia fight. They spawn in the walls next to the entrance, no matter from where in the arena you summon them
- Anonymous
They're completely and utterly bugged. They keep spawning inside walls, or miles away on PC/Steam.
- Anonymous
Consumes no FP OR HP! They are completely free. I don't know if this was intentional but as long as it stays that way, these are my immediate go-to summons, and will be for a while as a low-FP character.

Actually very useful to take an area by surprise if you're struggling with it, since they typically spawn in the middle of groups of enemies. I'm not exactly sure, either, but I think they might be able to see and attack invisible enemies as well. Very good for the Town of Sellia.

OP spirit. Best value/cost. Completely free FP costs, and free rune upgrades (you just need the plants). If you are not playing summons, you can kindly add this cute horde to your arsenal and save some FP. Also, when you upgrade it, more rats will be added. +1 rat is added at level 4-5 and +1 more at level 8-9 (i dont remember at what level exactly). Very interesting summon.

Giant Rat Ashes located in Altus Plateau at West Windmill Pasture. Top left part of the area
- Anonymous
This is located at the West Windmill Pasture, slightly northwest of Road of Iniquity Side Path site of grace. There will be a few small rats and one large rat inside a small stable, right next to the summon.

I found giant rat ash. I will update later. You need to use denuem (sp) great elevator. Take the path all the way around and right after windmill village (south) there will be a shed with rats and a white item. Get the item jump out the window to avoid being ganked!
- Anonymous
Also a typo in your article this is a FREE FP summons. If you level it up summons more rats!!
- Anonymous
Is this how you become the giant rat that makes all of the rules?
No rune cost when leveling just takes the upgrade material. Cool but why?
