Glintstone Dragon Adula is a Greater Foe Boss in Elden Ring. This Elden Ring Glintstone Dragon Adula Guide features boss locations, tips, strategies and videos on how to defeat Adula easily, as well as boss stats and lore for Adula. Bosses are unique and challenging Enemies that can be encountered all over the Lands Between. Great Enemy bosses can drop unique Spirit Ashes, Weapons, Spells, and other various Items. This is an optional boss, as players don't need to defeat it in order to advance in Elden Ring. However, doing so yields useful items, as well as Runes.
Glintstone Dragon is the normal enemy form of this boss. Other bosses with the same basic attacks are Flying Dragon Agheel, Flying Dragon Greyll, Decaying Ekzykes, Glintstone Dragon Smarag, and Borealis the Freezing Fog. Lesser Dragon is a normal enemy with the same basic attacks.
Adula, a devourer of sorcerers, was bested by Ranni and subsequently swore a knightly oath to her Dark Moon.

- She is impossible to kill at this location even if you deplete her HP bar in one hit, she is scripted to fly off instead.

Glintstone Dragon Adula Combat information
- Stance: 120
- Parryable: No
- Is vulnerable to a critical hit after being stance broken
- Damage: Standard, Magic
- Dragon type
- Weak spot: head (+50% damage)
- See Flying Dragon Agheel for a full boss guide
Negations (or Absorptions)
The negation numbers are the % of your damage that gets blocked. For example, if a negation is 60, 40% of that damage by that type will go through and 60% will be negated. Bigger number = less damage. A negation of 100 means no damage goes through, and a negation of -100 mean the enemy takes 2x damage from that source. 0 means damage goes pretty much as is.
Additional Fight Strategy
The Best Tips for Glintstone Dragon Adula:
- Adula has very high Magic resistance, so Intelligence builds should use spells like Rock Sling that deal physical damage.
- Meteorite of Astel with Cerulean Hidden Tear can easily trivialize the fight by raining meteorites that deal physical damage.
- Wear armor with high Magic and Physical resistance, like the Banished Knight Set.
Additional Attacks & Counters
Attack | Description | Counter |
Most attacks are the same as Flying Dragon Agheel, except that Adula's flame does Magic damage | ||
Seeking Shards | Rears back and summons a giant crystal in front of its mouth. After a moment, the crystal will burst, sending several shards that will home in on your location. They track very well, and are difficult to dodge effectively. Used every 50 seconds or so. | Duck behind something in the environment to block the projectiles, or use Eternal Darkness to consume them |
Adula's Moonblade | Flies up and backwards, conjures a magical greatsword in its maw, then swoops down to slash it in a wide arc, loosing a wave of frost projectiles in its wake. Only used below 70% health and only once every 50 seconds | Watch for its head to turn to its right and move back and to its left to dodge the main sweeping attack as well as many of the projectiles that fly out. Alternatively, if you are close enough, you can move under their body to avoid the sword entirely |
Glintstone Dragon Adula Lore, Notes & Other Trivia
- Adula was a devourer of sorcerers, but was defeated by Ranni, after which they swore an oath to serve her, which explains why it appears in places relating to Ranni’s questline.
- The name Adula is a reference to the scientific name, Adularia, of the semi-precious gem moonstone and the mountain in the Swiss Alps, Adula, where moonstone was first found.

Mist Opportunity: Stand inside the cathedral and use Night Maiden's Mist. Stand in the between the entrance and the nearby Site of Grace and its breath attack won't be able to hit you. Sip some tea while your favorite true damage sorcery does all the work.

tfw ranni was like 3 meters away as you murdered one of her actually loyal servants she could've easily told that you were on their side, also robbing yourself of summoning an oath sworn dragon for elden beast if you were set on age of the stars
she's definitely marika's child...

Dude fighting this boss with a dagger on horseback was hell. It took him 1 try after switching to longsword

my strat as a spell caster
Meteorite and comet icerag. He can be frostbitten to take more damage, and both of these spells will break stance for critical attack.
Eternal darkness for when he summons seekers, and if he does the sword stand still with torrent and then dismount at the right time to receive iframes
- Anonymous
you can use torrent to dodge the sword sweep if you unmount when it comes for you, gives you enough iframes to dodge the swing and the projectiles
but it doesn't work with the seeking shards, you should just take cover for those

Are we sure that Ranni actually bothered to tell Adula that you’re a friend and there is no need to attack you?

Adula is a real missed opportunity for some story-line depth. Adula and Lansseax both have back-stories that clearly involve capacity for higher reasoning, but you never see it - they're just as mindless in their immediate hatred of your existence as any other random enemy you come across.
Lansseax I can sort-of understand: she loved Vyke, and it's plausible that after Vyke went the way of the Three Fingers she just checked out of wanting anything more to do with Tarnished, so the fact that she makes no attempt to warn you away with words or do anything other than KOS you might be a conscious choice that we can never know she's making.
Adula's instant and sustained aggression, on the other hand, makes zero sense. He serves Ranni, you serve Ranni (even if not at the start, you have to be in her service to get to the Cathedral of Manus Celes area), every one of Ranni's other servants recognises you as one of them as soon as you enter her service (Ranni can clearly communicate telepathically with them all; how else does the message get to them the instant you pledge service to her?), and Adula is, according to repeated in-game lore, capable of appreciating and adhering to the same code of conduct as all of Ranni's other servants. Why does Adula act like you're just another trespasser long after everyone else has got the message here?
The dumbest part of all of this is, FromSoft literally had dragon bosses that talked to (and even halfheartedly helped) you and only went hostile if antagonised in both DS1 and DS2. They're plainly capable of making dragons into characters as well as enemies / bosses - why didn't this happen with dragons in ER that they went out of their way to add humanoid back-stories to?
It would've been much better if you could get up to Adula's final location without needing to be in Ranni's service (or after annoying her with Seluvis' potion and not using a Celestial Dew), but if you were on good terms with Ranni at the point of reaching the cathedral, you got the option of talking to Adula and convincing him to hand over the Moonblade spell through dialogue instead of fighting for it. Maybe you only need to get him to 50% health again for him to yield and offer it up since you 'bested him like Ranni did'. Frankly, almost anything would've been more engaging than just another dragon to murder for loot - there's already Smarag down by the Academy, after all.

Night Maiden's Mist is the best strategy for me. I couldn't beat him even at level 121 since I'm a mage, but with the mist, I was finally able to do it! So glad I got Adula's Moonblade.

Spectral Lance AOW on something like Nightriders Glaive does good damage but amazing stagger dmg. Quick cast also. 1 to the body and 2 to the head dropped him. And I’m on NG2 rn

I was approaching the tower to talk to Ranni, when "Great Enemy Felled" came across the screen, along with 12k runes. I had seen the dragon in the distance, but I had made a point of going around it so as not to aggro it at that stage. So what the hell? I looked around, and didn't find any drops either.

As a full INT Dark Moon Greatsword / Spell build, this one was very frustrating. After 1 hour, I decided to give the cathedral a shot. Beat him in the first try with this strat. Just use the Cathedral at your advantage and spam whatever spell, bow or ranged skills you want (I used rock sling). Was a breeze doing it this way and it didn't feel like a cheese (I don't like cheesing bosses).
Pro tip: Use Gold Scarab + Gold Pickled Foot to get 190k Souls.

The first time this guy bailed on me at the Three Sisters, I thought it was bugged. It didn't fly off, it just faded into thin air while crawling on the ground, much like regular enemies/world bosses do when they get too far away from their designated area. By the time I fought it again, I had entirely forgotten its name and had no clue it was the same dragon, until it happened again on my subsequent playthrough.

Fecking dragon like abandoned the area after fighting for a while. Just despawned and my jellyfish despawned too

Fun fact, the name of the Dragon is a reference to adularescence. It's a type of optical phenomenon in certain gemstones - most notably Moonstone to really make that link to Ranni obvious.

Adula is a part of the residences club he has eighty in one catagiirey and forty in the rest just like Mogh the omen Radagon and fortisaxx

Literally just rock sling, like 3 casts to the head staggers her, stays down for like 10 seconds and keep casting. Not the most engaging gameplay, but its a dragon fight. How much more engaging can you get? I spawned her from the Cathedral grace, so she didnt fly immediately.
Will say you'll probably have to dodge a couple breath/moonblade attacks, but dodging those looks sick, u got this.

A god tier strategy for almost every boss is to proc Poison and Rot on them. I've done my second playthrough and it works reliably every time. Also, having a good Bleed weapon like RoB or Mogh's Spear helps tremendously

This mf should not be hostile against player aligned with Ranni, the very fact that we are on that hill at all should tell the ****er we aren't someone you attack on sight. Fromsoft is great with little details like this, maybe they missed it or a heart for the dragon cult is more important then Ranni's pet.

Really poor writing... Another dragon other than lansseax where we could have had a conversation with them because they both have no reason to fight us.. but noo, they go "oh dragon, make it an enemy!" Ugh...
- Anonymous
Those who say that adula attacks us even being on the same side.
1. the first time you meet her the first thing we do is attack or defend ourselves, before we can end the conflict adula runs away disappearing, she never witnesses that later we join rannis and help her, she only knows It goes with the appreciation that we are enemies.
2. The second time we meet her, we simply summarize what we started, and as all the souls are beaten, we end up either being devoured or being victorious, rannis and adula never have any kind of communication that guarantees that we are the same equipment.
Everything can be interpreted as a misunderstanding,
I would say that the ***** that makes everything misunderstood is the idiot rannis, who from the beginning treats the subordinates like stupid puppets.

Most bullshit dragon
32 int 26 strength, rl70, 11% magic absorbtion and 15% physical. 40 vigor. Ohkod by the moonblade. I don't mind if I'm under leveled but 40 vigor shouldn't ohko you, not unless you have serious negative absorbtion.

Fun Fact: If you somehow manage to kill this boss at Three Sisters, you will receive 12000 Runes for killing it and no Dragon Hearts. How did I find this out? The dragon glitched to where it was stuck on crystals and got lock into a falling animation where it ended up dying from Fall Damage.

This game is weird sometimes. Astel, a boss I spent 3 hours wiping on before coming up with a niche strategy, 80k runes. Adula, a boss I killed on my second try by whaling on her feet with Uchigatana until she fell over, 120k runes...
- Anonymous
I actually killed it in NG3 at ranni's rise with a single full charged ancient dragon strike faith build.
I'm a little mad that she GAINS health for her reappearance rather than losing the health I took away at her first.
- Anonymous
Hold on, it swore an oath to serve her? Why the hell'sit trying to attack us then? I swear, half the issues in these games could be solved with proper communication.

She's a dummy who doesn't know that we're working for the same boss.
- Anonymous
She has a moonlight greatsword, and it's distinctively a sorcery and not a power she got from eating sorcerers, therefor the reason she's the only character in Ranni's service that's hostile to us is we're basically cucking this dragon.
- Anonymous
Gravity sorceries, specifically Rock Sling, work great when facing this boss on a magic build, since they deal physical damage and not magical damage. Just stand inside the safety of the cathedral and throw rocks at her head until she dies.
- Anonymous
I thought he was about to enter his second phase, not teleport away!
It takes some time to fully aggro if you're damaging it from a distance, so you can pelt it with like 5 or 6 poison arrows before it even really starts to turn around. Considering the fact that this boss can nearly one shot endgame characters, you may want to utilize this information to cheese it with your ranged dot of choice. In my tests, I noted that the boss will detect you in stealth even if you're behind it. It'll aggro when you get within like 20 feet of its foot, so poison mist isn't really an option for this.
- Anonymous
Can be cheesed by standing on the slanted pillar by the entrance of the cathedral, it will just walk back and forth by the wall, it can still hit you with the blade and some breath attacks but you can easily just back away when they are coming. Inflict it with rot or use Black Flame to take it down painlessly
- Anonymous
Cheese method: stood inside the building where the site of Grace is. Literally just shot arrows at him from the doorway. Occasionally he’ll do a flame attack so just walk behind the wall and hide and then come back out and shoot at his wings or whatever. Pop a gold foot before he dies for extra runes!
- Anonymous
if youre working a sorcerer build try cerulean hidden tear + meteorite and youll be able to take it down in one go. first youll have to run past it into the cathedral and start the fight from behind so that you can cast early enough to knock it down before you get hit

Why did the dragon disappear with half health at three sisters?

why do we actually fight Adula, if it serves Ranni and we're trying to go and help Ranni achieve her goals, why does it attack us

i actually found a really good spirit summon in Latenna +10. I placed her in the entrance of the manor and kited the dragon around using Rock Sling, and she consistently did around 500 damage every few seconds

I seem to have a problem where my Mimic will simply not attack this guy, no matter what weapons / spell combos I try, the mimic will just run up to it and then stand there

idk if any1 mentioned this, but I ignored the dragon, and after I gave Ranni the finger slayer blade, I walked out of the room as the "Great Enemy Felled" appear. I was confused and then I realized it just Adula despawn and moved to Manus Celes cathedral

Eternal Darkness saved me by drawing in those homing crystals, so I hope that helps.

great another dragon fight - many times will my ****ing pony get stun locked and roasted again?

If you lose the dragon after fighting it near Ranni’s Rise, look west of the Village of Albinaurics grace site. You’ll find the dragon curled up under two towering stones. If you zoom in on the map, the stones look like two sticks leaning towards each other to form an incomplete triangle. Sorry If my post is wordy, English is not my first language. I’ve been told I write very wordy.

is there a meta around charming adula as a host? done a number of invasions here with adula hostile to me, and I'm a little confused. i wish the moonlight altar was like the forest for dark souls 1's cat covenant - for ranni consorts

Rocksling is the way to go if you're on a mage build and do low damage because of his magic resist
If you have mimic tear and want it to spam it as well, make sure to have some starlight shards equipped so the mimic can recover FP
Did him at level 100, don't know if I' m overleveled but it sure didn't feel like it. Got me destroyed 10+ times. Finally went in with full Radahn's, magic negation buffs + horseback fighting buff. Mimic ashes too. Kept meleeing his feet, switching between them. He didn't have the chance to cast that lethal ice beam of his, nor anything else actually, he was just constantly trying to stomp me. At 5% of his health he knocked me down. RNG helped, got back up unharmed, finished him off. Everything else failed miserably. As usual in this game, storming in and being aggressive paid off.

His forward fire breath has a visual glitch where he moves his head and damagr stream to adjust for player movement, but the fire stream visually stays in the same location. You will still die even if the visual fire breath is nowhere near you.
That dragon doesnt appear for me anymore on his second location I dont know why tho i still got the spirit calling icon flashing
- Anonymous
What was the point of making us fight Adula if they're just going to bail? Don't do that, either let us kill it the first time or have it spawn much later.
I once fought him on his second location without success and wanted to come back later and now i wanna try to fight him again but he is no where to be found but I still got the spirit calling icon flashing on the screen did it happen to anyone else?

Regal Omen Barn cheeses this boss easily. Stand behind the piller and move out and spam it a few times, 3 magic flasks wporth of spamming it and he was dead at the Cathedral of Manus Celes. The other ones just Horse ride till they run.
I will say they must have buffed this final version of the boss from 1.03 he is much harder and has much higher magic reduction. It at least seems it was far easier on another character in the previous version with a simular build and weapons. But there have been several enemies that have seemed to be boosted in 1.04 that aren't in the notes.
- Anonymous
As with most dragons in this game, two applications of rot breath will do the job.

There is one easy way to cheese this fight that everyone can do. All you need is 14 Int to cast Night Maiden's Mist. Cast it few times (one at the time and wait for it to end) from inside the cathedral and watch the health bar melt

Fighting this guy was real easy up by the towers, in which it also flies off like a coward halfway through, but in the lakes he's a real jerk;
It's mostly up in the air shooting down insta-kill magic flames and running away, then when you get close enough to hit, it just repeats the same cheap tactic. It's like it rage quit the fair fight on the ground, only to then act like a cheap babby when it comes to the retribution round. I swear Elden Ring has a big push for you to use magic compared to other titles.

Easy Cheese as a caster. Go inside the Cathedral and hug the front wall. Send out Kristoff Spirit Ashes (Cold damage does almost nothing to him) and just go brew some coffee. I peeked out of the corner every so often, throw rocks and hid again.
Yeah its not my proudest moment, but I can now stab stuff with a frosty greatsword to make me feel better.

This damn big lizard's fire breath (well... Glintstone Breath) seems to be glitched. More than once, it breath the fire and I have no difficulty moving ahead of the breath, but then as I'm getting next to its wings and it stopped its breath, some of the fire breath comes back and hit me from behind. (It literally went in the opposite direction from where it was shooting it.) From what I have seen, the fire breath particles "bounce" off certain tall surface (like rocks) and returns toward me while being barely visible anymore. It's kinda hard to explain, but the worse part of it is that this glitch kills me in 0.1 sec. (It drop my health to 0 and pushes me off Torrent instantly.)

This fight is infuriating as melee. It just keeps running the **** away from you AND does damage at the same time. I spend my time running around after the thing to catch up to it and when I do, it flies off again and sets everything on fire on the way. One time it kept flying off and landing then flying off so many times that it despawned itself. I couldn't even catch up to it.
Cheesing this ****er with no remorse. Rock Sling all the way.
For anyone (particularly melee) that prefers not to fight on horseback, cold godskin peeler with bloodhound step worked well for me.
Focused legs and bloodhound stepped to other leg when the one I was hitting raised to stomp. Watch for tail whip.
Double step through his flying sword attack to increase odds of dodging blade and follow up mist. Hammering bloodhound step to close gap especially beneficial if he's going to flame attack while on ground so you have stamina to chain hits while he won't react. Winged sword insignia boosted this.
Wait for crystal magic attack to pop and then wait until projectiles are honing in on you then roll for iframe protection.

2 flames of redmane on his head and he's stunned, I have 39 faith and use Lordsworn's Greatsword

I was just fighting this dragon and he flew up, then disapeared. I got no runes, no heart, no message of enemy killed. I rested and came back, the dragon is gone. what did I do wrong?

The worst part of this fight is the crystal ball thing that fires homing crystals. They break through any shield, they hit and such different times that it's nearly impossible to roll through them, and even hiding behind something doesn't work because the shards that went straight in the air will come down on your head like a mortar. Absolute RNG move as to if you live or die. It's just a Vigor check. I hate it so, so much.

I saw the dragon in three sisters, and went around it to Rannis Rise, intending to fight it later. I go to the top, Talk to Ranni the witch, talk to her friends, then all of a sudden, it pops up that I slew a Great enemy, and I got 12k souls, but no dragon heart, and I go back outside and the dragon is gone. At first it wouldn’t let me leave, so I go back to talk to Ranni, but I went too fast and fell off a cliff.
I didn’t screw myself out of a dragon heart did I?
If it on an int build, only way u can really win is with rock sling
