Godrick the Grafted is a Boss in Elden Ring. This Elden Ring Godrick the Grafted Guide features boss locations, tips, strategies and videos on how to defeat Godrick easily, as well as boss stats and lore for Godrick.
Godrick the Grafted is the ruler of Stormveil Castle, and is one of the first demigods and shardbearers that players can fight. He is a descendant of Godfrey and thus born of the golden lineage, however Gideon and Kenneth believe him to be weak and unworthy to rule. Much of Godrick's power comes from the arms and legs of soldiers he's grafted onto himself, and most notably the dragon head grafted onto his left arm visible in the second phase of his fight. His knights and soldiers wear armor that bear emblems of the golden lineage - a two-headed war-axe and the beast regent, Serosh.
You don't need to fight Godrick the Grafted to progress into the next area of Elden Ring, and can instead opt to face him at a later part of the game. Though not the most difficult boss fight in the game, players should look out for Stormcaller, a move that has two possible follow-ups depending on his distance to the player, and I Command Thee, Kneel!, a hard-hitting move that may be tricky to time jumps for. He drops the Remembrance of the Grafted and Godrick's Great Rune when defeated.
Bosses are unique and challenging Enemies that can be encountered all over the Lands Between. Shardbearers drop their own unique Great Rune and Remembrance capable of being transformed into powerful Weapons, Spells, Ashes of War, and Talismans for the player.
I command thee, kneel!
I am the lord of all that is golden!

Absorptions
- Phy (Standard): 0
- Phy (Slash): 0
- Phy (Strike): 0
- Phy (Pierce): 0
The absorption numbers are the % of your damage that gets blocked. For example, if an absorption is 60, 40% of that damage by that type will go through and 60% is absorbed. Bigger number = less damage. An absorption of 100 means no damage goes through, and a resistance of -100 means the enemy takes 2x damage from that source. 0 means damage goes pretty much as is.
Resistances
Poison: 318
Scarlet Rot: 318
Hemorrhage: 318
Frostbite: 318
Sleep: 318
Madness: Immune
Death Blight: Immune
The resistance numbers are the buildup amount to trigger it. For example, if a resistance is 100 you must deal 100 points of whatever aux buildup to trigger it. Note that these go down over time, and increase each time the effect procs.
Results of Defeat on World
Defeating this boss will have these results, possibly leading to missed content if NPCs/Quests/other are not dealt with beforehand. Note: The game may treat resting at any site of grace in Liurnia of the Lakes the same as defeating this boss.
- Roderika and Rogier will move to the Roundtable Hold.
- Nepheli Loux will also move to Roundtable Hold.
- Enia will become available in Roundtable Hold, if Godrick is the first Demigod the player has defeated.

Godrick the Grafted Fight Strategy
The Best Tips for Godrick the Grafted:
- Attack him from behind when he does his fire breath attack during phase 2.
- Be mindful of his combo attacks, and don't run in unless you see a clear opening.
- Spirit Summons can be used to distract Godrick so that his attacks aren’t always targeted at you.
- If the player is summoned for cooperation, after the beginning of phase transition, they should move to the center of the arena (unlike the host, they are not teleported).
- Once you get a successful hit in, it's best to follow up with a combo to delay his next attack and maximize damage output.
- Remember to summon Nepheli Loux before you enter.
- Use the arena to your advantage (trees, pillars, rocks).
Godrick the Grafted has two phases, like most major Boss fights in Elden Ring. During the first phase he wields only a large golden axe that he will attack the player with, but during phase 2 he grafts a dragon head on to his left arm and uses it to not only breathe fire, but to make grab attacks that deal massive damage. Good Flame Resistance is therefore not a bad idea for this fight. Phase 2 of his attacks begins roughly when he reachs 60% HP.
Godrick has an array of mainly melee attacks. He also can spew a few directional ranged attacks. These attacks range from smashes, lunges, leaps, swings and sweeping. Each are fairly quick attacks and have a quick transition between them, though some attacks have a slower attack animation, giving players a chance to reposition during the times when he draws back his weapon in preparation for a swing or one of his other melee attacks.
Melee Users
As a melee user, you will be doing a combination of approaching and quickly dodging back since a lot of his attacks have quite a large range. Stay in mid range to prepare to run in and deal some attacks after he finishes a sequence of attacks. He will do his triple wind gust most often so wait this out until the final blow before running in for an attack. Once a window of opportunity opens up go aggro, but always anticipate the next action. Any sign of a draw back of his weapon, dodge back and distance yourself immediately, As much as possible you will be trying to stay on his back side and away from his line of sight. As a melee user, be extra careful during phase 2 since his attacks will now be laced with Fire Damage and you will be forced to approach with an added danger. Be tactical and defensive during his combo attacks. If you're successful with looking for your windows and knowing when to dodge, this should quickly deplete his HP bar and lead to his defeat.
Magic and Ranged Users
As soon as you enter through the gates, create your summons. The boss will immediate begin his attacks. His attacks affect quite a large AoE so ranged focused combat will be more advantageous. You may feel spirit summons may be useless in this battle since they can be cleared fairly easily, but they have their own advantages with distracting Godrick, slowly depleting his HP, and keeping their targets on him as you continue to fight. If you are utilizing spells or ranged attacks, summoning the wolves by using the Lone Wolf Ashes is a recommended summon. If you manage to quickly deplete his HP, these wolves should be able to make it through till Phase 2 of the Battle. With ranged attacks, try not to focus being on one position. You should always be moving to get behind it all while attacking him. With this method, he should go down fairly quickly even with just the Glintstone Pebble spell.
Strategy
As much as possible during this combat encounter, keep moving so that the chances of Godrick's leaps and lunges landing on you are lower. The goal is to stay out of his line of sight. Circle around him and try get to his back in order to open up an opportunity to attack. Once a window comes, aggro him so his next action may delayed, opening up a longer opportunity to attack. Look for cues for his upcoming attack. Some prep action animations will have a brief 1-2 second brief moment where you will notice Godrick pull back his weapon, and that is when you know to reposition or get ready to dodge. Since this arena is walled, try to stay in the open area to avoid getting backed into a corner with no space to dodge backwards.
Attacks & Counters
Attack | Description | Counter |
Stormcaller | In this attack, Godrick swings his axe around him, creating walls of wind that surround him. While using this move, arrows and other projectiles will bounce off harmlessly, sometimes even hitting the player if they are unlucky. After this move, he will execute one of two moves. |
As long as you are not near Godrick during this action, you will not be affected. Just be sure to back away as soon as you see his axe start to lift. Do not use arrows/bolts as they will be rendered useless during this move. |
Storm Assault | After using Stormcaller, Godrick rolls to the sides, before leaping into the air, and performing a sweeping slash while descending. | Dodge the incoming attack, or get behind him to get a few easy hits. |
Storm Blade | After using Stormcaller, Godrick scoops his axe forward, sweeping up sending a swirling gust of wind in your general direction. This attack tends to curve from the left or right before hitting the target. | Keep at eye for the direction of this attack. Wait for it to curl. This will usually end up being the final direction this attack is heading. Stay out of this line and you should be able to avoid this attack. |
Wild Strikes | Godrick draws back his axe behind him to prepare for a swing. At this point, he will lunge forward before immediately following up with a sweeping slash, extending the range of this attack. | Moving back could back you up into a corner depending on which area of the arena you are at. But since this attack is quite directional, its best to dodge to a either side while backing away |
I Command Thee, Kneel! | Godrick raises his axe above his head, before bringing it down, creating two large shockwaves. | Back away from this move, it has a long windup but can hit hard if it lands. The shockwaves can be jumped over. |
Roll | This action is not necessarily an attack, but allows Godrick to reposition slightly so you may get caught off guard at the direction his next attack will come from since this is usually immediately followed by another attack. | This roll is not too quick, just take note of the direction he is heading as this starts to happens and make sure this roll does not put him in a position to close to you in case his next attack is an AoE. |
Jumping Axe Swing | Exactly like the order of the tile, Godrick begins this action with a leap into the air toward your character before ending this move and landing with a swing of his axe. Getting hit by this attack could knock you. | This may be difficult to avoid if you are too close to him, but if you see him leap, immediately dodge roll backwards to get out of his landing space and roll away again if possible to get out of his swinging range. |
Axe Smash Flurry | This is one of the shorter ranged melee attacks that Godrick deals. Step out of range to avoid this attack. This action is a series of axe smashes onto the ground. | This melee attack should be avoidle by circling behind. This attack sequence may give you an opening to insert a few damaging hits as it carries through. |
Axe Swing Combo | Godrick attacks using his axe and his arm, with very delayed timings. | The drawback of his animation has a slight pause before this swing, giving you enough time to put some distance in between you and Godrick to avoid this attack. If using a ranged attack weapon or magic, this sequence will be a perfect time to deal number of damaging attacks while this combo plays out. |
Phase 2 | ||
Sweeping Fire Breath | Godrick lowers the head of the dragon on his arm and breathes fire forward in a sweeping motion. He will always use this move upon entering Phase 2. |
Try and run behind him and get some easy hits during this attack, or move to the end of the arena to avoid it. |
Fiery Winds | Godrick uses the dragon head alongside his Stormcaller move, imbuing his attacks with additional Fire Damage. | Use the same strategies to avoid being in the range of damage and circle behind Godrick as much as possible. |
I Command Thee, Kneel! (Phase 2) |
He will perform the same attack, but will this time add a third shockwave. | The first two parts of this attack shouldn't affect you unless you are standing very close to him, but use this time to attack him with an array of ranged attacks and make sure you are not too close by th time of the third smash so that it does not knock you over. |
Bear Witness! | Godrick plunges the dragon head into the ground, drags it around, then thrusts it upwards, sending debris upwards that falls and leaves fire on the ground. | Try and get behind or away from Godrick to avoid this attack entirely |
Grab Attack | The dragon head opens its mouth and lunges forward. If it grabs a player, it will slam them to the ground while incinerating them. | The dragon will open its mouth and make an audio cue before it attacks. Dodge forward or to the right to avoid it. Even if you get caught, it shouldn't do too much damage. |
Forward Fire Breath |
The dragon head ignites and sprays fire in front of Godrick while he walks. | Get behind or on his sides. The fire can sometimes get behind him, so be mindful. |
Elden Ring Godrick the Grafted Lore, Notes & Other Trivia
- Voice Actor: Ramon Tikaram
- Godrick was described as the weakest of the demigods, as described by Enia. He is also of the Golden Lineage, being of the same blood as Godfrey.
- It is possible to skip 2nd phase entirely if you deal enough damage.
- Cut content suggested that Gostoc is the son of Godrick, and was thus an elligible ruler of Stormveil and Limgrave.
Another had Godrick reciting a sort of speech, talking about them returning to their home, bathed in rays of gold.
Dialogue
Introduction:
Mighty Dragon, thou'rt a trueborn heir.
Lend me thy strength, o kindred.
Deliver me unto greater heights.
...Well.
A lowly Tarnished,
playing as a lord.
I command thee, kneel!
I am the lord of all that is golden!
During Fight (Phase 1):
Defeating player:
Lowly Tarnished... Thou'rt unfit even to graft...
Second Phase Transition:
Ahh, truest of dragons.
Lend me thy strength…
Nnngh!
Forefathers, one and all…
Bear witness!
During Fight (Phase 2):
Defeating player:
Great Godfrey, did'st thou witness?

...And one day, we'll return together...
...To our home, bathed in rays of gold...

why godrick feels like hes the only more "alive" character we fight? i mean, hes not talking about some nonsense like the others, and when he kills you, he mock you about it, just like horah loux and morgott; those 3 are the only characters that say something with sense and context
The others its like: "huur duur my babies egg" "im the malenia huuur duur" just nonsense, no wonder why golden lineage its my favorite bosses in this game

Dear Miyazaki: Please take inspiration from this fight for everything you do in the future.

Fighting Godrick really is the high point of ER for me. While he’s not the strongest boss, he’s not ridiculously easy. In fact, he kinda seems like the Tarnished.
Think about it. We’re going thru the Lands Between acquiring Great Runes and Remembrances from bosses, pretty much grafting them into our builds.
So there’s always a little bit of remorse when I have to fight him. Knowing that together, we could’ve returned to Leyndell, bathed in rays of gold.

Wish I had realized sooner that that big ol dragon wing in the middle (well, side) of the arena is prob fire resistant — was game changing for me, having no available cooperators.

I don't imagine many of the people here would have any real trouble with Godrick, but for anyone who's new to the game or anyone planning a speedrun is reading this, there's a window for attack that I found when I first started playing that I've never seen anyone else exploit yet. When Godrick whips his ax around twice to call up storm winds in either phase, bait out the Storm Assault variant of the attack, the walk forward and right towards his left side. If you time it right, his landing swing will miss you entirely, giving you more than enough time to land an attack or two.

Will someone tell me how he grafts the dragon to his arm? Its been bothering me
1: the dragon isn't even beheaded when he shoves his arm in... nothing?
2: the angle at which he shoves his arm in makes no sense

It seems to me like godric has an obsession with returning back to the Altus Plateu, judging by his "Rays of Gold" speech. I feel it would be pretty easy for him to take both medallions if a simple lvl 1 tarnished like me could do it. Maybe he doesn't even ned the medallions. He does have a bunch of hands to climb the cliffs with, and his ice-skating bird friends could probably help him out aswell.

One day, we’ll return together.
To our home, bathed in rays of gold.
There is only one tree, and only it’s branches.
That bath in true rays of gold.
Not the fool omen king.
Nor the rank, malformed twins.
O’ we are the golden ones, the true and rightful heirs.
Our land’s grown old, now ashen, and cold.
But look up, the Erdtree glows!
One day, we’ll return together.
To our home, bathed in rays of gold.
And grace will surely guide us safe.
To our home, bathed in rays of gold.

This isnt true, I went to the hold right after and he was still there

I thought the whole thing with him licking Malenia’s feet so he could live was a joke but apparently there is lore and dialogue from Kenneth Haight regarding it lol

Defeating Godrick is definitely not the trigger for Diallos to leave Roundtable. He left my Roundtable before I beat Godrick. I also skipped Stormveil initially for Liurnia and discovered a few graces in Caelid as well.

Margit the Fel and Godrick should have been swapped around imo, Godrick felt more like a proper first boss (fair), Margit really felt cheap with constant attack holding and switching targets mid-combo and I'm pretty sure that's where a lot of first time players would have quit in frustration.

Probably the only balanced boss in ER. Every other boss just do some random AOE **** that is impossible to dodge and keep spamming r1 like its nothing. Don't forget about those lazily designed duo and trio bosses.
- Anonymous
Godrick, Knight Loretta, Godfrey and Rennala are definitely the most fun boss fights
- Anonymous
incredibly high quality boss, easily the best in the entire game. Such a shame that you encounter him so early, it's all downhill after. And it just comes off as so incredibly lazy when they copy paste him into an evergaol later. Seriously, why?? My guess would be some pretty harsh time and budget constraints so they had to reuse a lot of stuff rather than bother making original content.

Someone's screwing around with his health info cause he absolutely does not have 80k health in NG
I wish grafting showed up more in this game. I understand it's supposed to be creepy and body horror, but I see it as almost "fantasy cyberpunk" and I find it really intriguing. It's not really something I've seen before in other media. I think it would be super cool if a DLC explored the concept more.

My favorite boss so far:
Amazing voice actor, awesome fight theme especially phase 1, super fun buildup from the lore, hype towards this battle, great and memorable area, absolute perfect moveset, fair but challenging, and 2 super epic cutscenes

Why is the first remembrance boss so damm good?
The music, particularly the first phase theme, is phenomenal. All of his attacks are super satisfying to dodge. And to top it off, he also has an amazing voice actor.

What an awesome boss!!!
At least one of the coolest bosses in Souls history!
The Golden Lineage became very distant and diluted and they used grafting as a way to hold onto their waning power. The grafting definitely didn't start with Godrick. Godefroy was imprisoned during the first attack on the capital and since he was imprisoned while being grafted it means he must have been like that when he was imprisoned, he must have been grafted for a long time.
Godrick however disguised himself to escape from the capital early in the shattering. That means he still looked like a normal person and wasn't grafted. It seems that Godrick grafting is recent, he must have started during the war for survival and for him to try to keep up with the other demigods.

A fun boss that doesn't feel unfair with top notch voicework. I haven't finished the game yet but I think he will be in the top 10 of well-designed bosses.

Diallos didn't leave the round table after godrick's defeat for me. he only left after triggering his quest by finding him in academy gate town to continue his quest (After talking to him to initate it of course)
and then speaking to him once more in roundtable hold to continue his quest. he was gone soon after i left.
A bit of headcanon here, but I feel like Godrick, out of all the remaining Shardbearers, is perhaps the only one who was still capable of restoring order to the Lands Between. Sure he was vile, likely cruel, and absorbed people to power up himself, but it was all with purpose: To return to his home, bathed in rays of gold (Lyndell being the only place that really fits)
Radahn is a mindless beast, Renalla doesn't even hold the rune you receive from her, the egg she's holding holds it, Malenia is happy to sit in solitude forever at the Haligtree, Morgott either can't or simply won't restore order (he's certainly strong enough and has the capacity to do so), Mhog is happy to wait for his bride to stop being a child, and Rykard has essentially ceased to do anything other than consuming "Champions" .
Godrick went from, for all that we are aware based upon limited lore, less than even a wretched Tarnished (the sickly child of the royal family, with only the barest scraps of the strength his heritage would provide) to the strength enough to graft DRAGONS (even if a dead and lesser one). And based upon the appearance of his grafts, he did this with basic humans. No other monsters, no great warriors, just basic humans and tarnished.
Given enough time, and enough grafting, he likely could have challenged even beings like Godfrey and Radahn, at least in strength (Godfrey would still likely easily defeat him by skill, but the point remains)
Godrick had a plan, even if he was craven about it. Graft others to him to strengthen himself to return, and perhaps rule over, Lyndell. And by extension, the entirety of the Lands Between. His soldiers were still loyal to him, and out of all the Rune Bearers, he seems to be the only shard bearer who still has control over his personal army, weak though they may be compared to the warriors of those like Radahn or Lyndell.
Lastly, despite his cravenness and cruelty, Godrick still did all he did in order to rule. Ambition drove him to do things no one truly craven would do: place himself at risk in order to obtain what he thought was his birthright.
Craven, sickly, the least "worthy" of all descendants, by ambition alone Godrick sought that which was far beyond his station and was (as slim a possibility as it would have been, and make no mistake I recognize how slim it would be) a true contender for the title of Elden Lord.
For me, despite all negative aspects, Godrick was deserving of the title of Golden.
