PierceGodrick the Grafted, also known as Godrick the Golden, is a Demigod Boss in Elden Ring. This Elden Ring Godrick the Grafted Guide features boss locations, tips, strategies and videos on how to defeat Godrick easily, as well as boss stats and lore for Godrick. Bosses are unique and challenging Enemies that can be encountered all over the Lands Between. Shardbearers drop their own unique Great Rune and Remembrance capable of being transformed into powerful Weapons, Spells, Ashes of War, and Talismans for the player.
Godrick the Grafted is the ruler of Stormveil Castle, and is one of the first demigods and shardbearers that players can fight. He is a descendant of Godfrey and thus born of the golden lineage, but Gideon and Kenneth Haight believe him to be weak and unworthy to rule. Much of Godrick's power comes from the arms and legs of soldiers he's grafted onto himself, and especially the dragon head grafted onto his left arm during the second phase of his fight. His knights and soldiers wear armor that bears emblems of the golden lineage: a two-headed war-axe and the beast regent, Serosh.
Godrick is an optional boss, and doesn't need to be defeated in order to advance in Elden Ring. You can advance to Liurnia of the Lakes without defeating him by following the path north from Stormhill Shack, then dropping down to the west from the broken bridge and walking along the outside of the castle. However, Godrick is a shardbearer, and two of the four available shardbearers must be defeated before entering Leyndell, Royal Capital.

Results of Defeat on World
Defeating this boss will change the world state and progress certain quests, possibly leading to missed content:
- Roderika and Rogier will move to the Roundtable Hold. This will also happen if you rest at a Site of Grace in Liurnia of the Lakes or beyond.
- Nepheli Loux will move to Roundtable Hold.
- Enia will become available in Roundtable Hold. This will also happen if you defeat any other Demigod.
- Gatekeeper Gostoc will move to Godrick's boss room, stomping on Godrick's corpse while still acting as a merchant.

Godrick the Grafted Fight Strategy
The Best Tips for Godrick the Grafted:
- Be mindful of his combo attacks, and don't run in unless you see a clear opening
- Use the arena to your advantage: there are many trees, pillars, and rocks that can help keep Godrick off your back. Just be careful to always return to the open center so you don't get cornered yourself.
- Godrick is weaker to physical damage than elemental damage. Rock Sling is a good option for Intelligence builds, while Faith builds can use Bestial Sling
- When using fist-type weapon, aim for sides of Godrick, as hitbox may not connect if hits are for the front.
- Rotten Stray ashes are very good against him, as the Scarlet Rot that the dog inflicts is boosted over other rot sources such as Rotten Breath.
Melee Users
Bide Your Time: The safest (but slowest) strategy for Godrick is to stay outside the range of his weaponry as much as possible, and only try to get in damage when he does one of his many punishable attacks. Stormcaller is best for this: when he starts spinning up a cyclone, get close enough to tempt him into a Storm Assault, then run behind him and get in a few hits until he recovers. Axe Lunge, Jumping Slam, and the fifth attack in Fury Swings also have long recovery times that you can punish. Once you get to phase 2, you'll also be able to punish all of his fire-breathing attacks as long as you stay close enough to get to his side before you get roasted. This strategy is particularly good for heavy weapons, which can use jump attacks or charged heavy attacks to build up Stance damage and get in critical hits.
Stick Close: A riskier but quicker strategy is to stay right up next to him. This will limit how many different attacks he does, but also means you'll need to learn the precise timings to dodge or block the remainder. But once you learn those timings, you can get in hits during the frequent delays while he's winding up attacks, as well as jump attacks when he uses Lesser Command in phase 1 and I Command Thee, Kneel! in phase 2. This strategy is particularly good for weapons that inflict status effects, since it'll let you get in more frequent quick attacks.
Magic and Ranged Users
Distraction: Summons are very useful to distract Godrick, but he hits hard so it's important to choose a summon that can survive his assault. Spirit Jellyfish Ashes is a good option due to its high defense and immunity to shockwaves. While your summons keep Godrick from rushing you down, you can attack him from afar. Once he notices you, keep backing off until your summons catch his attention again.
Circle and Strafe: Keep moving as much as you can. Try to stay towards his sides and back, out of his line of sight, and start casting or firing as he's finishing his attacks so that you can start moving again once he's back in action. Remember that running is often quicker and more stamina-efficient than rolling when evading his attacks with long windups that cover a lot of area.

- Voice Actor: Ramon Tikaram
- Godrick is a descendent of Godfrey, and thus a member of the Golden Lineage. He is possibly the son of Godwyn, due to his heritage and the fact that Mohg and Morgott were Omen.
- Enia describes Godrick as the weakest of the demigods, which is alluded to when he was driven from the capital and was defeated by Malenia.
- It is possible to skip phase 2 entirely if you kill him during the phase transition. The transition will only trigger if he takes Stance damage when he's at 60% health or below, so you can also prevent it by exclusively using spells like Poison Mist that reduce HP without affecting Stance.
- Cut content suggested that Gostoc is the son of Godrick, and was thus an elligible ruler of Stormveil and Limgrave. Another had Godrick reciting a speech about his forces returning to their home, bathed in rays of gold.

I love this fight so much. Every playthrough I always spend an hour or two getting summoned to fight him. You get summoned within seconds every time, the fight itself is a ton of fun, and as long as the host has a little bit of vigor it's basically free arcs and runes.

Interesting that although he is most definitely not the direct offspring of Marika/Radagon (evidenced by dialogue from Kenneth Haight), He is still considered a demigod, implying that children of demigods are considered demigods themselves.
If Rya is the genuine daughter of Rykard then she can potentially be considered a demigod herself, and due to Rya being the child of a first generation demigod and Godrick being described as very distant to his ancestor, Godfrey, it can be concluded that Rya could beat the **** out of an un-grafted Godrick, though him being an old man probably wouldn’t help either.

Most underrated boss imo, and don't forget that he isn't technically a true demigod since he is a distant descendant of the golden lineage, him actually managing to hold his position as the ruler of stormveil castle and limgrave proves he is only viewed as a joke when compared to the real demigods on his own right he should be more powerful than most of the creatures in the lands between

Am I the only one that thought Margit was more difficult than Godrick? I mean Godrick is easy in phase 1 and in phase 2 the only real challenge is avoiding the dragon. I can barely heal against Margit because the arena is so small and he input reads flask usage.

I think that Godrick is based off of a Chinese (atleast I think it is chinese) myth about a ruler who collected the emblems and crests of kingdoms he defeated and put them on (or so to speak GRAFTED them on) his emblem, and eventually it turned into a dragon. He might be based on that or maybe I'm crazy /:

I saw so many people complain about Stormcaller when the game came out, still don't understand what's wrong with it. Yeah, attacks like it or Godskin Noble doing Noble Presence aren't reactable, but they also deal next to no damage. They're basically there so you don't burrow into their side an abuse these boss's massive size. What's wrong with that? You taking a little damage as they push you back? Some people act like they gotta no-hit run everything.

Extra advice for this boss. The projectiles of his storm blade attack if the wall is to your back or if theirs a tombstone behind you, sometimes his attack, after you dodge, will do a complete 180 U turn and come right back in the exact same direction from off screen. Complete bs I know, but it doesnt always happen.

Is that DS3 King of the Storm he grafts? Random crap keeps me wondering if this game is supposed to happen before or after the Souls series, and if something like the Dung Eater ending isn’t a precursor to Bloodborne. Old Hunters DLC starts off with that same line Dung Eater says about cursing their children etc. when you get grabbed by that invisible Amygdala.

First playthrough was my first souls experience and I did 250 hours and leveled to 183 blind to special scaling techniques making me a strength/dex/faith melee player that was a Jack of all trades master of none. But I loved it.
I felt bad beating the game bc I went the mimic +10 route and just started shredding everything. It just didn’t feel satisfying to win after the Fire Giant.
I decided to play again fresh because I found basically everything the first playthrough. Only this time I decided I wouldn’t summon…except to summon the npcs. Well I had level to 40 and decided to be a mage and just smoked him first try. I gotta start summoning. It just sucks when you win and it’s not challenging.
A boss mode would be super sweet. Or a respec/boss fight mode at a Coliseum…
This guy needs a very big heart to pump all that blood and still, hes very pale. I would like to know how much control he really has over his weird chimera body. Who made his armor and, more importantly, why isnt it available to the player?

is godrick's poise lowered at the start of phase 2? it always takes 1 or 2 charged attacks to break his poise at the start of 2nd phase but in 1st phase I can barely stance break him (ng+7)
There were many demigods who died during both the wars before The Lands Between were united and during the Shattering. Godfrey also had children before and perhaps after he was Elden Lord, but I'm not sure those children would have been demigods. Anyway, because there were many demigods and because Godrick is stated to be a distant relation to the rest of them, and because he was preceded by Godefroy the Grafted, he cannot be a son of Godwyn. He could of course still be a descendant.

He's manageable. Not easy for a player completely new to the Soulsborne franchise like me, but he's relatively easy to learn after observing and a bit of trial and error.
Hate his axe attack though, the one where he lifts it up and just stares at you, only choosing to drop it when you least expect it. Had the most trouble with that.

Has one of the best boss themes in all of Elden Ring, hands down. It's terrifying, frantic, and jumbled apart, much like Godrick himself. It perfectly encapsulates this fight, and sometimes even syncs up with his actions, the most prime example being the choir at the start of the second phase. The lyrics (spoken in basic Latin) are a good insight to his character, and it's sung with perfect chords and pitches to show that, while he may be "weak" to others, he's still a massive threat to us.
10/10, best boss design ever made by Fromsoft.

If you want to skip his second phase to keep the dragon's head in te arena, use the Poison Mist incantation and rot him via Rotten Stray(despawn the dog to not trigger his phase transition), apply poison and wait. Somehow he still uses second phase attacks like the triple I Command Thee Kneel.

Its rather fitting/sad that despite how much Godrick fanboyed over Godfrey and aspired to be like him he turned out to be basically the polar opposite to him, Godfrey was noble and although he started out as a nobody tarnished just like you, he came to be an unmatched warrior-king, respected/loved by pretty much everyone, and took Serosh upon him to hold back his battlelust and "unkingly" warrior side, and shows respect towards you and takes his loss with grace when you defeat him and compliments your prowess unlike most of the other bosses, Godrick on the other hand, despite being a descendant of the Golden Lineage he's an absolute jobber who was always no match for the other Demigods, his subjects likely only obey him out of fear or because they don't have any other options, is a hated deranged maniac, and he grafts the body parts of other beings to himself in attempt to become stronger since he was always an emaciated weak old man for a demigod, and unlike Godfrey he mocks and disrespects you for being a "Lowly Tarnished", his story is honestly sad in a way. Long winded i know but i just thought it was cool to talk about this.

After Godrick was humiliated by Malenia, he went to uncle Morgott cause he wanted revenge on her, but he told him to **** off you maidenless ****, embarassing his own lineage. Then he went to mohg telling him how she humiliated him and wanted revenge, Mohg gladly accepted to help in questionable ways.

This dudes VA just absolutely chews the scenery, especially with his "Forefathers one and all, BEAR WITNESS!!!" and his gleeful hearty laughter when he starts incinerating the arena with his dragon arm, dude really has a palpatine vibe to his voice acting, he is far from being one of the harder bosses but his personality and the music is great.

I don't know why Godrick didn't just summon his true ultimate weapon.
The Soldier of Godrick if he did that then he would've won easily. In fact Godrick and the Soldier of Godrick were best friends for years if you want to know where that information comes from it comes from the internal game files when you beat Soldier of Godrick but nobody has done that before so hackers had to leak it. So I don't know why Godrick never summoned the man because he could've mopped the floor with us lowly tarnished. It's terrifying to think about a raving lunatic teaming up with a god.

why godrick feels like hes the only more "alive" character we fight? i mean, hes not talking about some nonsense like the others, and when he kills you, he mock you about it, just like horah loux and morgott; those 3 are the only characters that say something with sense and context
The others its like: "huur duur my babies egg" "im the malenia huuur duur" just nonsense, no wonder why golden lineage its my favorite bosses in this game

Fighting Godrick really is the high point of ER for me. While he’s not the strongest boss, he’s not ridiculously easy. In fact, he kinda seems like the Tarnished.
Think about it. We’re going thru the Lands Between acquiring Great Runes and Remembrances from bosses, pretty much grafting them into our builds.
So there’s always a little bit of remorse when I have to fight him. Knowing that together, we could’ve returned to Leyndell, bathed in rays of gold.

Wish I had realized sooner that that big ol dragon wing in the middle (well, side) of the arena is prob fire resistant — was game changing for me, having no available cooperators.

I don't imagine many of the people here would have any real trouble with Godrick, but for anyone who's new to the game or anyone planning a speedrun is reading this, there's a window for attack that I found when I first started playing that I've never seen anyone else exploit yet. When Godrick whips his ax around twice to call up storm winds in either phase, bait out the Storm Assault variant of the attack, the walk forward and right towards his left side. If you time it right, his landing swing will miss you entirely, giving you more than enough time to land an attack or two.

It seems to me like godric has an obsession with returning back to the Altus Plateu, judging by his "Rays of Gold" speech. I feel it would be pretty easy for him to take both medallions if a simple lvl 1 tarnished like me could do it. Maybe he doesn't even ned the medallions. He does have a bunch of hands to climb the cliffs with, and his ice-skating bird friends could probably help him out aswell.

This was a fun fight during my first play through. Just so damn cool seeing him cut his own hand and promptly graft a dragon head on, amazing.
