Gravel Stone Seal is a Sacred Seal in Elden Ring. The Gravel Stone Seal scales primarily with Faith and is a good Weapon for casting lightning related incantations.
Sacred seal made from Gravel Stone thought to be an ancient dragon scale. Enhances Dragon Cult incantations of the Royal Capital.
The worship of the ancient dragons does not conflict with belief in the Erdtree. After all, this seal, and lightning itself, are both imbued with gold.
Where to Find Gravel Stone Seal in Elden Ring
The Gravel Stone Seal weapon can be found at the following location:
- From the West Capital Rampart site of grace in Leyndell, walk north to the next room with the single guard inside. Jump over the balcony railing to get to the area next to the Fortified Manor with the dragon foot. It is dropped by the Leyndell Knight with the spear, who is supported by an archer Leyndell Knight.

Can i use erdtree seal for incantations and this one on the other hand and still get the boost?
- Anonymous
As far as dex seals go for dragon cult spells, this pulls ahead of frenzied flame seal (222 inc scaling) ONLY when dual-wielded for the extra incant damage (246 total inc scaling), which is still a little worse than using the frenzied flame seal in your main casting hand and the gravel seal in your other hand for the extra damage (~255 total inc scaling). That also means no NG+ required which is always nice. (all tested at 60 dex 30 fth) Past 35 fth the double incant boost from the gravel seals will pull ahead of the frenzied flame seal/gravel seal combo.
- Anonymous
Everyone asking for dex scaling on this should probably stop and use their head for 3 seconds. A seal that gets damage from Dex in addition to cast speed? You'd never see anything else get used.

This thing needs Dex scaling to honor the lore behind lightning damage. And a special effect on Vyke's dragonbolt applying the 15% extra damage to the red lightning weapon buff part and increasing the equip load capacity boost even more (the original 15% is useless if you use at least a medium armor and any weapon bigger than a dagger).
It's unfortunate that the +15% bonus doesn't apply to buffs like Electrify Armament or even Vyke's Dragonbolt, when Sorcery get something like Lusat's Glintstone Staff which boosts the damage of everything, including Scholar's Armament, making it add more damage at similar investment levels than any of the other weapon buffs. That just feels wrong to me considering Incantations are more generally known for their buffs, and they have 5 of them in comparison to Sorceries which has 1. (I'm not counting buffs that don't add damage to your weapon, like Poison Armament or Unseen Blade)

Want lightning infusion on your 50-80 fth build? Lightning slash AOW buff on small/medium lightning affinity weapons with small investments into dex will reach similar AR as sacred infused weapons at 50+ fth. By small investments into dex I mean 15-30 which make your casting speed faster anyways... and lightning is probably better than sacred for pvp due to resistances and armor. Of course, sacred infusion with sacred blade buff out performs this but that is debatable in both pve/pvp. Just pointing out a possibly less optimal but viable method of having a lightning infusion and not needing to get jump attacked during electrify armament.
This thing still needs dex scaling. I really want to make a full on dex faith lightning build but the game just doesn't let me . And I prefer not going over level 200 just to achieve that. We have a strength faith seal. And an arcane one. Even a Int faith one. And a seal that needs completely mad stat allocation. Give us a dex seal already. Geez..

I ran a pure faith build on NG+ and I decided to use two of these for most of that playthrough. I put one in each hand, walked right up to Placidusax and nuked him into oblivion with Ancient Dragon’s Lightning Strikes. Absolutely mental!

This was buffed in the patch today, I'm hitting 250 scaling with just 50 instead of 80 faith.
- Anonymous
imo should have been a B/B split dex/faith seal like how the clawmark is for strength
- Anonymous
What people need to remember, is you don't NEED to use the seal in order to cast your spell. You can off hand it and have the Erdtree Seal in your main hand... and you'll be casting with the scaling of the Erdtree and still getting the benefit of the Gravel Stone's boost.
I run a pure Faith Caster build, and my main hand has the Erdtree... while my off hand has un-upgraded Godslayer, Fire Giant and Gravel Stone. I just swap between what I need at the time, and use Erdtree for all my casting. You'd be shocked how effective it is to turn all your spells into nukes when pairing these four talismans with the Faith and Flock talismans and the Radagon and Godrick talismans all at the same time.
- Anonymous
This might be a silly question, but at high enough faith and/or intelligence levels, wouldn’t it simply be better to use either the golden order seal or the erdtree seal in your right hand and the jellyfish shield with contagious fury in your left hand? Effectively boosting your damage by 20% for any incantation rather than specific ones for just 15%? Seems kinda silly to me to carry around an extra seal (where another more useful weapon or shield could be in different instances).

Think twice and do the maths properly before upgrading this. I didn't do that and I wasted a lot of smithing stones on upgrading it to +9 thinking the upgrades and the boost they give dragon cult incantations would be better than the golden order seal. It really wasn't though, I think the difference in scaling is forty one or forty two higher for golden order seal over this, and all incantations cast with the golden order seal, including the dragon cult's, hit significantly harder when used on the same enemies than this gravel stone seal does.
The upgrade table has this seal's incant scaling with 80 FTH at 250 at +25 I'm nearly getting that now with the golden order seal, and its not near being fully upgraded yet.
- Anonymous
Tested on Hero of Zamor in NG+. With 45 Str and 60 Fth I did 693 (Erdtree Seal) and 789 (Gravel Stone Seal) max upgrade level. Seems to work as advertised, 14% more damage with Gravel Stone. Seems to be very worth it if you are running strength or quality type paladin and want to mainly use lightning for offensive incantations. Does Erdtree seal ever outpace Gravel Stone in a Paladin/Melee type of build with a bit of Str? Kinda just like the idea of that zero weight, but it's defintely not that important.

Should've made this the dex version of the Clawmark Seal since they made lightning dex affiliated

ONE CAST AND KILLED ELDEN BEAST NG+3

Been doing a dex/faith build with a heavy focus on lightning and this thing rocks. The boost to dragon cult incants helps make up for me only having 50 faith, so I’m able to deal pretty good damage with my incants while still using high dex weapons like the bolt of gransax
- Anonymous
If I'm using the Dragon Communion seal to cast but put this seal in my off hand for the boost then I shouldn't have to upgrade this seal with stones right? Only looking to get the 15% boost for the lightning spells.

Does anyone know if holding 2 gravel stone seals is better than one gravel and one other (erdtree, dragon comm, or golden order) for max lightning damage?
- Anonymous
It should be mentioned that this is not obtainable in the Ashen Capitol
- Anonymous
Just a quick heads up, the Leyndell knight that drops this is different to any of the others I've seen so far, I have no trouble killing these knights, spear or sword versions. The knight that drops this seal killed me at least half a dozen times before I got him, he is more aggressive and its odd because hitting him does interrupt his attacks, until it doesn't and it will poise through an attack none of the other Leyndell knights can and can quickly kill you if you can't get out of range of his spear thrusts.
- Anonymous
Could not get the knight to drop the talisman. He drops armor instead.
- Anonymous
Would’ve been neat if this was like the beastclaw seal scaling with strength and faith but with dex instead. Bit of a shame for lightning builds to have to focus on dex for weapons but focus on faith for spells, instead of being able to split between the two like beastial builds
- Anonymous
This does not increase Electrify Armament, however I didn't test Vyke's Dragonbolt.
You can see for yourself by casting both Order's Blade and Electrify with the Gravel Seal. The increase to attack power is the same.
Why does 2 Dragon Communion Seal+10 do more damage than 2 Gravel Stone Seal+25? I think is because Incant Scaling > Passive Effects?
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
I have low faith but high arcane, so I cast with Dragon communion seal in main hand, hold this in off hand and still get the 15% bonus even though my faith is not high enough to use it.
- Anonymous
I’m honestly confused why this thing scales with Strength secondary instead of Dex. Lightning has clearly been relegated to a Dex scaling damage type...
- Anonymous
this seal cab be drop on the royal capital killing golden guardians but you have to stay long time
- Anonymous
this seal drops by killing royal capital golden guards in the mansion but you have to stay long time
So for anyone that has tested it, does this affect ellectrify armament or not? I'm assuming it doesn't but I don't have it and can't test it myself.
- Anonymous
It would be nice to write somewhere that you only get one per ng somewhere. just wasted almost an hour to get a second one only to read on yt that it drops only once...
- Anonymous
does having this equipped buff the bolt of gransax weapon art?
- Anonymous
Just tested & confirmed that if you want to use two of these to get the stacking damage bonus, they BOTH need to be WIELDED when you cast the incantation (i.e. Damage bonus only applies while each seal is wielded).
- Anonymous
On max level with 80 faith this seal deals only 3.5% more damage with dragon cult incantations than erdtree seal
- Anonymous
Lightning seems to be a dex oriented element this time around. Idk how good this would be, but I’d like to see a seal that scales with dex the same way the bestial seal scales with strength. I think it would help break this strange divide where you wanna be a pure faith build for lightning spells, but all the cool lightning weapons. (Like the bolt spear, and dragon kings crag blade) are for pure dex builds.
- Anonymous
Honestly, this seal needs some dexterity incant scaling (even slightly would be nice), but I don’t see from changing that this late into the game
Clawmark seal is B/B? So this could have been D/S or D/A incant scaling maybe?
This seal IS NOT obtainable after the Capital gets covered in ash. You have to go to NG+ or trade with someone.
- Anonymous
Just one part of the lightning boost set
Huge Lightning spears over 4K damage on mobs with 80 Faith
At 16 STR and 80 FAITH, using the erdtree seal, with gravelstone in the offhand
Seal: Gravelstone
Tears : Lightning and Charged Attacks
Buffs : Golden Vow + Howl of Shabriri (as long as you have howl madness, you get buff and debuff)
Talismans: Lightning Scorpion, Godfrey Icon (fully charged), Ritual Sword at full health, Flock's Faithful Talisman.
Environment: Raining
Try it.

Is there a way to get this seal after the city gets... uh, a little makeover?
- Anonymous
Should update page. Gravel stone seal can be gotten as a drop. One just dropped for me from the Archer Lyndell Knight near the Fortified Manor, First Floor grace sight, on the destroyed balcony next to the dead dragon foot.
- Anonymous
I can confirm this affects death lightning. Gravel seal at 196 scaling did 1123 damage, other seal at 199 scaling did 976 damage. Tested on giant at secluded cell and did multiple casts.
- Anonymous
It really does suck how there is only two viable lightning incantation and no faith based lighting weapons to fufill my lighting warrior dream.
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
So despite this seal scaling with STR, the spell buff only benefits from FTH, am I correct? Would that mean that for a FTH/STR build that wants to use offensive Dragon Cult spells Clawmark Seal is still better?
- Anonymous
Sadly lightning spear and frozen are the only practical ones.. I've tried with the others so hard... Glaive is a weaker frozen lightning spear, DMG/range/speed. Fortissaxs actually is ok in the right hands and everything else kinda sucks .. please rework from... Fingers crossed
- Anonymous
Got killed by the archer before I could grab it off the enemy's corpse but it still ended up in my inventory.
- Anonymous
Does bashing dragons with the seal do extra damage like the other gravel stone weapons?
- Anonymous
Rather surprised this does not scale with Dexterity considering the Bolt of Gransax and the Cragblade have Dex scaling as well as the Lightning infusion path is a Dex scaling path too.
- Anonymous
There's not much reason to mention its scaling at 99 strength/99 faith when strength doesn't affect the incantation scaling
At +25 with 99 strength and 99 faith, you get 343 incant scaling. With two incantation talisman, I casted fully charged Lightning Spear at the backs of Banished Knights near dragon communion cathedral, and inflicted 1826 damage on a clear day.

Could somebody give me one? I would trade it for an ancient smithing stone. my city is ash.... Steam: xomnair

Does Placidusax's Ruin get boosted by this seal? It's been confirmed that the Dragon Communion Seal doesn't and I'm liking to know if this seal does so I know if my lightning-based build would benefit from the investment.
- Anonymous
Just some numbers from testing my Lvl 100 40 Faith build.
I like using a mixed selection of spells leaning slightly towards the lightning school.
I recently leveled my Gravel Stone and Godslayers to +15 which is where they both achieve S scaling.
Testing done on Mistwood Outskirts trash mobs who were aware of me (no surprise damage) and with clear weather (no rain)
Gravel Stone +15:
Lightning Spear 489
Honed Bolt 413
Catch Flame 363
Frenzied Burst 416
Wog 578
Godslayers +15:
Lightning Spear 437
Honed Bolt 370
Catch Flame 375
Frenzied Burst 428
Wog 593
Godslayers gives me around 3% boost to all my non-lightning spells, while Gravel Stone gives a 12% boost to my Lightning Spear and Honed Bolt.
At the end of the day it is down to your personal preference if you prefer a nice boost to your lightning spells but lose around 3% damage on all your others, or if you are happy with all your spells doing an extra 3% across the board but losing out on the 12% boost your lightning spells can get.
Personally, I am currently sticking with my Gravel Stone as hitting enemies standing in water or in the rain really hits them that much harder with that 12% damage boost (which turns into a 22% damage boost with wet conditions) and I don’t mind my other spells doing only 3% less. If I come across mobs with lightning resist then I can just switch out to the Godslayers.
- Anonymous
I tested this seal and can confirm that the damage increase is approximately a little under 15%.
Kind of annoying that the seal that boosts the most fun incantations is basically at the end of the game
I mean I guess that makes a certain sense but still
- Anonymous
i really wonder if its possible to obtain this early from the divine bridge tower side as you can SEE these 2 knights down there in the distance. maybe you can kill the knight haveing it with a greatbow from the tower without access to the city. but i dont remember if the seal is dropped into the inventory or on the floor. the later would make this useless.
also not sure if a greatbow can reach them. anything else is definitly out of range and i cannot wield greatbows with this character build.

Co-oping as a summon granted me another of this one as it is enemy drop.

I tested this and it does not work on some of the spells stated in the description. When unupgraded compared to an unupgraded Finger seal at 50 faith this weapon boosts damage by 13.9% to the folling spells: Lightning spear, Honed bolt, Lansseax glaive and Death Lightning. It DID NOT work on Ancient Dragons' Lightnings spear, Ancient dragons' lightning spear or Fortissax's lightnings spear
- Anonymous
So I think it might also buff electrify weapon. At +13 with 30 faith 30 Str this seal had a incant Scaling of 159. Claw mark seal had a higher incant scaling of 168 at +7. AR difference of about 18 despite the incant scaling being much lower. I noticed a difference in favor of the grave seal when they were both at +7 as well but don’t have the numbers saved.
- Anonymous
I just confirmed it, vykes dragonbolt is not affected by the seal.

- Anonymous
on NG+ and got my second and when using two the buff does appear to stack, same with Godslayer
- Anonymous
having a second one equipped in your left hand gives you a 32~% bonus to lightning damage (tldr it stacks). I was lucky enough to have my friend trade me my second one, so my lightning spear is hitting like a truck now
- Anonymous
So it seems you can't get this item (and several others) after you've killed Maliketh.
- Anonymous
Another item to add to the list of things I can no longer get from the capital…
- Anonymous
The bonus damage applies whenever you have the seal out, regardless of whether it's the seal you're using to cast. If you do what I just did and equip an equal-level Godslayer in your right hand while it's in your left hand, the Godslayer will do more damage thanks to its narrow spellbuff advantage. If you actually put the Gravel Stone away (such as if both seals are in your right hand), at least at 40faith and +13 for each, the bonus damage overwhelms the 4-point incant scaling difference and the Gravel Stone becomes the clear winner for lightning spells.
If you're running str/faith or arc/faith or int/faith, you might be better off dual-wielding talismans using the clawmark/dragon/Golden Order, though I haven't actually tested those, I'm just extrapolating. This has the additional advantage of removing the need to spend a bunch of upgrade materials on an alternate talisman.
- Anonymous
If you progress the story to a certain event the area where its found and the graces there get removed. Will I still be able to get it? I see a item below when I go the wall there I THINK the grace was but I do not know how to get down.
- Anonymous
It says that it boosts dragon cult incantations, does that apply to the Dragon Crucible Incantations or do they require a different seal?
Why does this scale with strength? It only buffs lightning incantations and every lightning weapon and every lightning ash of war scales with dex. Wouldn't it make more sense if this added dex scaling instead? Would make for a cool dex/faith lightning build. I guess the strength could be for just melee and I'm just being silly
- Anonymous
Gravel Stone Seal scales lightning-specific incantantions roughly 10% better than other Seals at similar investment levels.
Lightning spells include:
Ancient Dragons' Lightning Spear
Ancient Dragons' Lightning Strike
Death Lightning
Fortissax's Lightning Spear
Honed Bolt
Lansseax's Glaive
Lightning Spear
Lightning Strike
Other abilities, such as Vyke's Dragonbolt and Electrify Armament are not affected by Gravel Stone Seal, as they provide flat percentage increases to melee-based lightning damage.
- Anonymous
Do Fortissax's Lightning Spear, and Death Lightning count as a Dragon Cult Incantations? (They are obtained from Lichdragon Fortissax's Rememberance)
- Anonymous
It.. doesn't seem to be worth it over the Godslayer's Seal.
Either the passive bonus doesn't work on Lightning Spear (My test), or it's too little to outweigh being about -7 incantation scaling behind.

bruh... it does the same exact damage with lightning spear as the finger seal

Be careful. This is no longer obtainable once you reach a certain part of the game, least I don’t think it is.

Since I havent seen this question answered anywhere else, all you have to do is climb up the giant stone dragon wing to get into the fortified manor area in the southwest oart of the city. From there you can make your way down the wall and fight the knight in the courtyard for the seal.

How do you get to the Fortified Manor? In the capital but dunno where on the map it is

Can confirm it's a drop from one of the golden spear knights. You need to get to the fortified manor in Leyndell and immediately on the left from where you can drop down from is two golden knights. The seal drops from the spear wielding one and you can skip killing the archer knight
