Great Mace is a Great Hammer (Warhammer) in Elden Ring. The Great Mace scales primarily with Strength and is a good Weapon for high strength players who can hold this weapon's weight. The weight is worth the ability to crush enemy armor, sometimes along with the enemy itself. 

 

Huge bludgeon with sharp protrusions. An enlarged version of its smaller cousin.

Maintains all the advantages of smaller bludgeons, boasting few deficiencies while being very capable at breaking enemy guards and stances. A shrewd choice for simple slugging matches.

  • Weapon Skill: Endure
  • This weapon can be infused with Ashes of War and buffed with Magic and Consumables
  • Great Mace can be upgraded by using Smithing Stones
  • As with other great hammers, has the highest poise damage and requires the least swings to break poise among all weapon types except colossals.
  • Especially effective against enemies with low strike dmg resistance such as RadagonCrystalians, and gargoyles (eg ValiantBlack Blade)
  • At +25 with 91 STR, has higher physical damage than Great Stars with Heavy ashes equipped, even though both are labeled A scaling in STR. Great Mace: 283 + 453 = 736 total damage; Great Stars: 305 +398 = 703 total damage.  
  • Sell Value:  er runes 13 100.
  • NOTE: As of Patch 1.08Great Hammers poise damage has been reduced.

Is the Great Mace good Elden ring?

  • Comparatively yes, as it can be obtained rather early and it outperforms other weapons in Attack Rating and Poise Damage, but only for those who enjoy the moveset of Great Hammers. The Great Mace is also good for staggering Enemies and scales well.

    • This is one of those weapons that just feels really good to use, perhaps despite it not being the best in slot. Regular attacks consistently strike true and charged hits give that meaty SMACK I'd want from all Great Hammers. I actually find this more useful than the Giant-Crusher in terms of outputting stance damage.

        so the quote on the wiki is "At +25 with 91 STR, has higher physical damage than Great Stars with Heavy ashes equipped, even though both are labeled A scaling in STR. Great Mace: 283 + 453 = 736 total damage; Great Stars: 305 +398 = 703 total damage. " except for this weapon doesnt have an A at +25 heavy, it has an S. who wrote this???

          Top 3 favorite guns in the game for me, easily. not only is it S+++ tier elden bling, it just plain fun. braggarts roar, cold infusion, your charged R2's will destroy poise and pop frostbite like its nothing.

            Just started using this thing and is easily becoming one of, if not my favorite weapon in the game. Amazing scaling, great damage, stance breaks often (even in ng+7) and just looks awesome.

              I pick this up at the start of a new playthrough and it carries me through until i can power stance dual great stars in late game. best of both worlds.

                Rather than bash (pun, get it?) other greathammers here are just some pros and cons. Greathmace is a good all arounder, it has better reach, higher base damage and is lighter than the brick hammer, has better strength scaling than any other great hammer besides the brick hammer. Cons, second heaviest, there's only one and it doesn't have the extras of bleed or rot or innate healing and is second best in damage with a high strength build. IMO greathammers come down to 3 choices, the greatmace, the brickhammer and greatstars. The pickaxe is good situationally as most enemies strong to strike are weak to pierce. However ALL are viable in PvE to beat the game with, even the large club, as they all do the second best stance damage of all weapons in the game (even better than collassal swords), only the giant crusher and prelates inferno crozier do more.

                          this weapon is too top heavy to be used in real file. normal maces are relatively quick and deal great blunt damage applied on a single point at the head. this 'sauron mace' looks cool but its not really usable. if Sauron had a smaller mace he would win

                            it was my favorite weapon in dark souls 3 along with the zweihander. it's faster and looks more realistic now. quite strong with occult affinity and 60+ arcane.

                              More Damage than some colossal
                              Strike Damage on top of that
                              Swings faster
                              3 hit combo on torrent
                              Massive posture Damage
                              Half the weight of most colossal
                              Only downside is the low range

                                Strength builds rejoice!

                                I have recently discovered a love for this weapon. I will start with the big changes such as the attack speed increase in patch 1.09 and the heavy infusion recieving an S for strength. The great mace is one of the few weapons to still retain a great B strength scaling when infused with cold. This means you loose very little ar considering split defenses because of the added magic damage and gives strength build something they lack to stay competitive in ng+ cycles which is a reliable status effect. With no intelligence investment you get a whopping 127 frostbite buildup on a +25 great mace. Powestancing this with another great mace or great stars if your still on your first playthrough. Put braggots roar on your main hand mace for more ar, stamina, and defense, slot in a dagger with golden vow and you are now a frostbite high ar chunky boy with great damage resist. Procs frost on most bosses in 2 jumping attacks. Easly allows my strength build to feel competitive again without feeling forced to invest in bleed.

                                As for pvp the one handed molestet feels really good. The regular r1 can roll catch very well and is best used in my opinion in the offhand the a halberd in the mainhand for running pokes. They complement each other very well.

                                TLDR: Great mace is goated. Infuse with cold powestance in pve. Do jumping attacks, win. Pvp run in offhand with halberd for rollcatch l1's

                                      I’ve reached the same conclusion as the guy below. Sacred infusion with sacred blade beats heavy. It doesn’t matter what infusion you have when fighting a mage, dex,arcane build etc but if you’re fighting a 60 vigor, scaled/goat, strength build who took a boiled crab... then they are shrugging off my heavy infusions like it’s a pool noodle. And with sacred I get to start every duel with Golden Vow or regen and bring protection of the erdtree to invasions.

                                        To 16 Jan fist weapons aren't really faster than they were before 1.08. the second attack of the fist weapons is now faster and the recovery is too but the speed of the first attack is the same.

                                            There is so much confusion and misinformation about stance break in PvE... This beast breaks stance of a troll in mere 1 charged attack while even colossals like Giant-Crusher and Greatsword fail. And with cragblade it becomes even more insane.

                                              Spent the last two months playing great mace pvp across different builds, it’s now my favorite weapon. I’ve played it on Heavy, Sacred and Lightning. Lightning at 19 str, 60 dex, lightning slash buff, did the most pvp damage of the three. It rains a lot in Liurnia. Sacred at 30 str, 45 fth, sacred blade did best in invasions/co op, also hard countered status/elemental builds through buffs/cures AND outperformed heavy infusion in damage against other str builds. Strength/heavy was great at giving absurdly high resistances against smaller weapons but it was very unreliable when fighting other str builds. It’s not that the great mace can’t overcome those resistances, but that it’s still softened and the king game against anything that thrusts. Resistances only matter when stacked on vigor/armor and thrusts ignore armor on trades, thus nullifying your resistances.

                                                Dual poison broadswords on a 0 arcane build will literally win the trade against 54 str great hammers. And they will hit faster. And they will inflict poison. The hit stun on great mace is short enough that they can abuse latency to squeeze trades into your own combos. And we haven’t even added the rotten sword insignia family of talismans to the discussion yet. Or thrust weapons.

                                                  I did a a whole play through for this weapon on a character named Bonk. My conclusion was that the Guts greatsword is better in every way except weight. The supposedly higher poise damage made no difference at all.

                                                    Very cool looking weapon. I have to ask though, why does it have that weird little ring like two thirds of the way up the haft? There are a lot of designs in this game that are really cool with something stupid and out of place that makes it look unappealing.

                                                          I see a lot of people talking about Sacred for this, but wouldn’t Flame Art be better? Sacred Blade and Sacred Order do holy buffs but I was thinking this with Golden Land on FA so FGMS is extra effective. Correct me if I am wrong!

                                                              You will be prediction traded by almost every L2 in the game. And every first-timer can gamble jump trades against your slow hammer. You have lost the trade against anything with a poke or with status. Most efficient manner to play unga bunga is with katana L2 unironically.

                                                                A comment below recommended sacred infusion instead of str, despite this weapon not scaling very well with sacred. However, turns out he was right. Much better damage sacred when stacking holy shrouding tear and sacred blades buff than I got with heavy or fire. I also use shared order on dagger which gives another 10% buff to holy damage even when I switch back to mace. My barbarian is now a paladin and it’s way more fun to bonk with some buffs/heals. I punish people who refuse to get bonked with regen or BoG if they’re a mage. My damage no longer feels underwhelming.

                                                                  its not good but i like using it because it looks cool. it's a shame the two handed moveset has worse startup and recovery frames than the one handed moveset. But I guess that would make greatswords worthless so there has to be a counter balance to having strike damage.

                                                                    Ok boys, for pvp, Strength simply won’t cut it as a damage stat for hammers. Sorry. For pvp sacred has been best, since 40 or 50 fth one handed with holy shrouding tear will reliably out damage 66 str two handed. Sad truth but there’s perks like buffs regen to going fth. Golden land ash scales off fth even on heavy and with 50 fth the darts have one shot careless casters. I prefer sacred blade for me tho, since it’s a fast ranged option to shut down passive players while buffing my own weapon. 942 AR with sacred blades buff and holy tear. I’m finally winning trades even against many bleed builds. Fire and flame art don’t cut because high vigor gives fire resistance which means you’ll still lose trades. Arcane builds rarely have 60 vigor stacked on armor so their holy resistance means little in my experience.

                                                                      Wanted to get this early NG but without Roderika leaving to Roundtable immediately, so I got on Torrent and ran all the way from Stormveil Shack to the grand lift of Dectus without ever activating a grace...
                                                                      Took me about 30 minutes and I nearly had a heart attack when I got killed by those snipers in Uld palace ruins, but thank god there's a stake of Marika there.

                                                                          Ideal on a spell caster. Circular swings catch people rolling in and cancel poise. Not sure it’s possible to passive poise through this. Use r2 after an r1 or a roll to roll catch casuals

                                                                                  So I'm confused. This says it has the highest poise damage of the great hammers, but I thought the poise page said all weapons in the same class do the same poise damage?
                                                                                  Also, what does the "sta" mean in the table? Is that stamina damage, if so the brick hammer is higher so I'm not understanding how this is better at poise damage. I'm sure there is something I missed or failed to understand.

                                                                                    I don't think comparing this to the Great Stars is fair as the weapon itself functions quite differently and is quite loaded. Not to mention you find Great Stars much latter in the game. I think a better comparison would be this VS the Great Mace and vice versa as the two are quite neck in neck.

                                                                                    Between this and the Great Mace, the Brick Hammer has better scailings and more stagger damage while the Great Mace has better bases and a slightly lower STR requirement, lower Weight and can potentaily be gotten without killing a single boss.

                                                                                    That being said the Stagger differences between the two aren't all that important as though the Brick Hammer edges out both outclass the majority of Collosals in pure Stagger while having a faster, less stamina consuming moveset.

                                                                                    The Scailing VS Base is where it gets interesting in my opinion. Great Mace's bases are pretty dang high which lends itself better to elemental infusions (Fire, Sacred, Cold) with a 50/55 in STR then using the extra points you would've put into pumping your STR to 80 somewhere else (Ex: 15 Faith for FGmS to boost both Phys and Fire damage on a Fire Great Mace).

                                                                                    Meanwhile Brick Hammer's crazy scailings would be better suited for a Raw STR build. Potentially making it a "Giant Crusher Lite" sacrificing slow attacks with faster, less stamina consuming ones. If you're going into higher levels Brick Hammer also is just flat out better than Great Mace but Great Mace is just a far superior option if trying to squeeze a build with limited levels.

                                                                                      Making a character that powerstances this with the Large Club and it's been pretty effective: Jump attacks can inflict massive stagger (especially with Determination) and it's only a bit heavier than the Large Club. All without having to put points in Dex. to use things like Great Stars.

                                                                                      Is GS better? Probably, but for pure Str. builds and for Fashion Rings the Great Mace is hard to beat.

                                                                                        Is no one talking about how this has two B's AND a higher base damage than Quality when you have Occult AoW on it? Ngl, arcane is a sleeper stat and you don't even need bleed for this weapon to be good.

                                                                                          This is a solid weapon with a heavy AoW equipped. It is quite good at breaking stances and leaving enemies vulnerable to finishers. I use mine with the stormcaller ash and it is funny watching whole groups of enemies get stance broken all at once around you. Earthshaker is also pretty good on this weapon but you have to time it more carefully since you will probably take some hits during its wind up.
