Just use great swords. They can poise easy through great axes while great axes can't poise through anything. Damage is same anyway. Great swords are also faster and have more range. Not to mention better aow

Big axes for big manly men. Ladies will love you and other men will respect you if you use a great axe. Weapons fit for warriors and champions. Just look at Chad Godfrey, even godrick respect the first elden lord and use one. Why you shouldn't? Become an Elden Lord you too.

Certified chad weapon. Every Greataxe user I've encountered is always respectful and non-sweaty. I just wish Axe of Godfrey was a Greataxe, it'd be my most favorite somber weapon ever, simply because it looks the coolest.

In 1.09, the Executioner's Greataxe is now the undisputed best greataxe (for a normal Heavy-infused Strength build). It already had the best range and crit multiplier, but now it also simply has the best damage, and Greataxes as a whole had their range, speed and recovery time buffed.

The basic charge attack of these weapons (not the crescent/godrick greataxe one) has almost the same attack time as an uncharged strong attack ever since the buff patch. It's like less than 0.1 second difference maybe.

There are certainly disappointments in the moveset, but I feel like the running R2 is greatly unappreciated. It surprises me how many times I've caught people off guard with it, I guess because it has an annoying delay. Compare it to the katana running R2, and I'd say this one is equally useful.

Default greataxe is somehow responsible for one of my best win streaks in the colosseum. Greataxes are in a pretty good spot right now, even if you don't just jump spam L1. Their moveset is still pretty uninspired but war cries help, as do some other ash of war attacks like swords dance

Its a fine PvE weapon choice, but sadly for PvP you get heavily restricted by the awful R1 chain. The saving grace for these is the wide swing R2 from the godrick and crescent axe.

While an undesirable wep class for a lotta reasons.. a lot of these have something unique going for them, crescent, long shaft, greataxe, executioner all have little niche differences that are effective based on how you like it. Very cool imo

I'm honestly not sure what's with this game and giving short range to most weapon classes (beside halberds, spears, great spears and some glaring exceptions), even the longest axe in this game is shorter than ds3 dragon slayer great axe, not to mention ds3 machetes...

It is so sad that Greataxes don't get any love in this game. They don't have close to the stagger potential as the great hammers do, greatswords are faster and have lower requirements and more ashes that they can use.

Sadly still a very underpowered PvP weapon class. Greatswords are faster, lighter, have less stat requirements and offer a greater variety of ashes for customization at the cost of only having 20-30 less AR. Only reason to use greataxes is for style points because most of them only do what other weapons do better. I guess Anchor would be the only exception since it has pierce damage on all attacks but even so most weapons hit faster than you and some can even interrupt you which robs you of the counter hit entirely because the large wapon hyperarmor in this game remains a broken mess. Forgot to mention the nice bonus of aim punch making you miss your opponent entirely many times as well even if you do poise through their attack. 4/10, only use these in PvE unless you're going for a meme one-shot build with the anchor.

Lolwut, executioner’s is supposed to be the worst one for Dex, but it ends up being the best for Dex based Lightning infusion as well. Greataxe gets a touch more ar at the expense of losing the crit bonus and a miserably short reach.

Slap prayerful strike or lightning strike on this and call it a day.

I still don't get why Fromsoft gave greataxes a higher dex scaling component than colossal swords. Like, I understand you need at least some dexterity to wield a sword, even a very large one, but greataxes are literal barbarian weapons.

Unreal. Fully charged r2's stunlock banished knights one-handed. I loved this weapon class before but now it it a PvE god. Needs more testing for viability in pvp

Why are there weapons with a Dex requirement of 8? Of all the starting classes, Warrior has the lowest Dex with 9 and I can't think of any way to lower your stats below starting levels.

I'm pretty sure the crescent greataxe R2s have extended range.
Check the animation: the handle part of the haft is longer than those of other greataxes and your character's hands change position, going lower for r2s than r1s.

Here’s my take on their moveset. Dual wielding is the same as the great hammers which is great. But I miss the running one handed light attack the great hammers have.
I also love the two handed running heavy attack the great hammers have and wish they had this.
The crescent axe with its special r2 underhand move that looks super cool would look great as a running heavy attack.
I prefer dual wielding the crescent axes but would of loved those two moves in instead. Still tons of fun and they look badass.

I have recently been using the Gargoyle's Great axe and Gargoyle's black axe in a Str Faith build. I have a fire enchant on the great axe. Great damage and fashon

All greataxe running R1s badly need more travel distance. I can fly across the map with Heavy Thrusting weapons, but greataxes barely reach further than their generic R1s.

Greataxes could do with a bit of an increase in either base damage or scaling. They seem to get outclassed by colossal swords, great hammers and halberds. I still use one because having a huge axe is lots of fun, but mechanically there's absolutely no reason to use this over a halberd for reach and moveset, or a colossal sword for reach and damage, or a great hammer for damage and stagger.

Get two of these, heavy infuse them, get flame of the redmanes, get blodflame blade, get flame grant me strength, get raptor cloak, get claw talismen.

You stagger enemies in like 2-3 hits while your redmanes does almost 1k with buffs, and you jump attack does an insane amount. Very very good for a pure strength build, but ON TOP OF THIS, you can bleed an enemy crazy easily.

So much complaining here...jfc. and not only that but A LOT of people here talking about 80 STR with these greataxes which is a complete waste. Youre very rarely EVER going to use the 1handed moveset, so why not just have 66 STR which gives you the bonus up to 99 when 2handing? You guys are using a heavy type weapon but complain that its slow? What do you expect. You have to learn how to make it work...utilize jumping attacks and powerful single hits to punish and get out. My greataxe/greathammer build is one of the most fun builds ive used since release.
