Greathood is a Helm in Elden Ring. Greathood is a unique item and is not part of a set. It is a Medium Weight headpiece that boosts Intelligence and Faith but lowers HP. Greathood protects the player's head by applying various defensive properties, it also changes the appearance as well when it is equipped. Some armor pieces may be available to both genders, but may be slightly different for male and female characters.
Hood far larger than the head it is meant to cover. A burial shroud of sorts for those who discover, at long last, the truth they sought.
Increases intelligence and faith to the detriment of HP.
"Yes, surely this is the moon that young Rennala gazed upon."
Where to find Greathood in Elden Ring
The Greathood Helm can be found at:
- Given as a reward for solving the puzzle of the Sorcerer Painting. Travel north-west from the Stargazer's Ruins to the bridge, leading north. At the center of the bridge, on the east side, is a lip with a ghost sitting in a chair. Speak to the ghost of the painter to receive the Greathood. [Elden Ring Map here]

Can we stop with the % health downsides? it would be so much better if it had like -50 focus or something actually interesting as a downside

I invaded a group of 3 wearing this hood and i was deeply terrified

Anyone tried this hood around The Three sisters area, Ranni, or queen Rennala?
Seems connected, and I don't buy the story. 3 is not a great number in Elden ring, and 3 sisters giving us 3 lonely spirit wolfs don't add up.
Or was that Renna?

this plus battlemage set is so cool. definitely not great in terms of optimizing your build, but holy cow the drip is real

Funnily enough raptors black feathers combined with this is hella drippy the semi blue color the feathers have match's so well

Most useful in early game, but only accessible in the latter half. This is why people twink and get stuff dropped.

Tfw you don't have your own hood for your first formal hood event and have to borrow your dad's ._.

Look. Guys. This thing is massive. I'm talking ginormous. Gigantic. This thing is not just a great hood no no no no! It is a COLLOSAL hood.

this goofy piece of crap doesn't look good with anything and i love it

10% HP is REALLY crippling. If it was 5% or less I would use it more

Matches color perfectly with the tree surcoat you can buy in altus. Ideal for a blue bufoon battlemage with eccentric set pieces.

Nevermind the net loss of like, 6 stat points, true sorcerers know that whoever's wearing the dumber hat wins. The sheer psychological damage inflicted upon your foes once they realize you willingly sacrificed 10 vigor's worth of hp and half your peripheral vision just to wear this monstrosity is truely a force of dominance on the battlefield.

Last worn by Mrs. Logan, mother of Big Hat Logan. She was the 1st OG to rock over sided headgear.

with how insanely high damage values are in this game, the health penalty is simply not worth the stats, especially at the point in the game you get it

Even the item description reads like a joke. This thing is absolutely comedy.

To visualize the size of this thing, imagine a pretty big hood. Then take that image you’ve thought up and set it to wumbo.

I, uh. I don't think I was expecting how immense this thing is. It's huge. I was expecting something closer to the battlemage hoods. This thing is Spaceballs comically large.

don’t understand people complaining about the EXACT colour, paletting exists just find something complementary ?? sometimes two shades of blue work

perfect for my Slave Master, the Black Demon Slayer cosplay

To all average Greathood enjoyer chads, I just stumbled upon the potential origin of this hood irl.
Search "Azorean hood"
I'm from Portugal, and the Azores are an archipelago that is a part of the country. This hood was used by women all throughout the many islands, some had different styles, but this seems to be the most well known, and they were prevalent when the isles of Azores were engaged in whaling.
From what I've seen, the hood is made this way because by not being tight fitting, it does not become too hot (Azores has warm weather), and the large rigid shape helps cut the wind, which is also strong all throughout the Archipelago.

This hood looks amazing with the "Tree Surcoat". The tree surcoat is also the only armor piece that has the same shade of blue as the hood, so u don't really have a choice.

The worst thing about this hood is that it’s a disincentive enough tint of blue that it doesn’t fit in with a single piece of armour, like you couldn’t have made it black or an actual normal shade of blue?

More ridiculous headgear. Exactly what this game needed. Where is the 4' feather that increases defense?

Tested it, greathelm reduces health by 9% not 10%
I have 37 vigor and 1308 hp, put on the hat and HP drops to 1190. 1190 is 91% of 1308, not 90%

I got the painting but the ghost dont spawn. I checked my inventory if I already picked it up but its not there.

Looks really nice paired with the Lord of Blood robe, almost like a set. Get your high priest fit

Not a good trade for 10% hp, would be okay-ish for low level, but it can only be obtained when a couple of stats are relatively small gain for x% deduction from active stats. Perhaps for cosplay?

The hood of Lonestar's father's brother's nephew's cousin's former roommate's ancestor, Dark Hood. Increases Schwartz.

It would not spawn for me if I crossed the bridge from the east. Went from the west and the ghost appeared.

This hood is not worth it, even for a Hexer, at least not in the late-game; it lowers your HP roughly ~10% for +2 INT/+2 FAI
For the +4 total points it gives you, it essentially lowers your HP for more than 4 points invested into Vigor.
You are better off just uninvesting 4 points from Vigor and putting them into both INT/FAI.
(HP=1900 @60 Vigor | w/ the hood equipped HP=1728. If you just uninvest 4 points from Vigor, you'd have 1834 HP & be able to just put +2/+2 into INT/FAI)

I was not prepared for how ridiculously large this hood is. It is the greatest of hoods in all the lands.

Can be found on a bridge to the west of the Stargazer Ruins on the Mountaintops of the Giants. There's a ghost sitting in a chair pointing ahead, interacting with it will get you the Greathood.
perfect for a Pyramid Head cosplay.
