Elden Ring Gurranq's Beast Claw Guide

  • Bestial Incantation
  • Stamina Cost: 42
  • Deals standard physical damage
  • Shockwaves are cast after a short charge-up delay.
  • This spell will only hit one target once, regardless of how many waves pass through that enemy's hitbox.
  • Damage/FP Cost ratio is pretty poor compared to other Bestial Incantations, but it can be useful if you are surrounded by enemies

Notes: As of Patch 1.07

  • Added a hitbox to the first part of the spell.
  • Increased attack power when charged.
  • (Patch Notes were corrected in Patch 1.07.1 as this spell could not be charged as it was stated in 1.07 official Patch Notes.)

There being a hitbox on the downward slam at first is nice, but why so little damage? You’re slamming a fist full of claws full force down into someone’s head, for 73 damage?

Why this spell cant hit multiple times when there are others than do more times with less risk is beyond me

        • Anonymous

I expected this to fling enemies in the air like when Gurranq uses it against you. It did not, and I never bothered using it again.

It’s really good for forcing cures, buffs and heals in pvp. Beast claw roll catch into blessing of the erdtree hits different. And there’s something really awesome about curing bleed build up with lords aid while the white mask noob runs for his life. And then you can hit multiple opponents with it right before erdtree heal during team fights. Wrath of gold or Prayerful strike/golden land L2 if they roll into the beast claw instead of away.

            • This spell is actually pretty good in pvp. Most of the time your enemies will get hit because they start to panic roll right into the hit box which seems to be a little bit bigger than the claws travel

Nice for a good 300-400 damage in pvp because for some reason no one knows how to dodge this and all get roll caught by dodging behind them

So? Was if update in patch 1.07 to allow this incantation to be charged up like the normal beast Claw? If so wouldn't the godfrey icon Talisman increase its damage since its a charged incantation?

I started using this as a companion for Black Flame Tornado weapon art in PVP. After using BFT I immediately cast Gurranq's Beast Claw and in helps for two reasons: if BFT hits and isn't fatal the beast claw range is larger than BFT and should do a good job catching most who just got hit. Once I did this and the host lived by a sliver of HP, as soon as they fell down from the slam they panic rolled twice away but it wasn't enough to escape the claws. Also if BFT doesn't hit, then an enemy is usually just outside the flames waiting to punish me and they simply aren't expecting a follow up attack after the tornado. Just be aware doing this and BFT together both cost a lot of FP and most PVP builds are not spec'ed for a lot so have the blue bottle close.

Wish it could be charged for additional damage as well as flinging people in the air upon full charge, similar to gurranq himself.

It's pretty lackluster as an incantation since it does very mediocre damage while having a dismal hitbox on top of not having seemingly any armor on it so you can't even trade with it. Stick with regular beast claw quite frankly.

If you didn't get all the items after handing in all 9 at once:

Reset by the grace, run immediately out the door (Gurranq will become hostile when you get up).

Bonk him until he gets his senses back, exhaust his dialogue, reset once more (or jump off a cliff like i did cause he was blocking the door)

Talk to him once more and he will thank you with the rest of the items.

I've been using a bit in PVP and for some reason this hits people a lot even when they're a good distance away. Are the hitboxes at the end of the wave bigger than they actually look?

i did not get all of the rewards..he did not stopped attacking even he was at half hp, was cheesing him with poison and he died lol

Worse version of standard beast claw, which is a worse lightning spear, like every other incantation, which sucks.

I’ve actually found this to be a pretty reliable pvp incantation, people are expecting the regular beast claw and then you hit them with this, decent damage for low fp, definitely viable

I would not give him all 9 deathroots at once. I decided to do this and he attacked me after I gave him, 8 at once. I did not get all the awards

                                    • Anonymous

Fires regular Beast Claw in every direction for slightly more damage in a big AOE wave. Can’t be overcharged.

                                      • Anonymous

It has a long windup unfortunately. Kinda odes the same thing as wrath of gold but worse - cant be charged, less dmg

                                        • There was a typo with the q being a g in Gurranq's name, I updated all instances within the page but I'm not sure how to update the page's path name itself as it is still the version with a g. Cheers!

I have not verified this through repeat attempts. After I beat the boss in Crumbling Farum Azula, Gurrang will attack you when you visit him, once you take him down to 2/3's health he pleads for you to stop and that he will remember his hunger. I had a deathroot on me at the time so I dont know if that's required. After I rested at the bonfire he gave me the hammer and this spell, hope this helps.
