Halo Scythe is a Reaper in Elden Ring. The Halo Scythe scales primarily with Strength and Dexterity and is a good Weapon for hybrid Faith based fighters.
War scythe of the Cleanrot Knights who fought alongside Malenia, Blade of Miquella.
This was the weapon of commanders in Malenia's army, and the half-halo blade deals holy damage.
Where to Find Halo Scythe in Elden Ring
The Halo Sycthe weapon can be found at the following location:
- Drops from Scythe-wielding Lesser Cleanrot Knights just south of the Heart of Aeonia near Commander O'Neil (rare drop) [Map Link]
- There are two different types of Cleanrot Knights near the Heart of Aeonia. Some use spears, and some use scythes. This is only dropped by the scythe-wielders.
- Drops from the Scythe-wielding Lesser Cleanrot Knight in Elphael Brace of the Haligtree.
Elden Ring Halo Scythe Notes & Tips
- Weapon Skill: Miquella's Ring of Light
- Your character swings the scythe from left to right, releasing a horizontal wheel or halo of light, which hovers in place for a moment before shooting forward.
- The halo deals holy damage and scales only with faith.
- You can chain cast the halos as long as you have FP and stamina.
- The halos will not track down moving enemies once the projectile has reached full speed. Tracking is however effective during the initiation of the skill, prior to acceleration, even at point blank range.
- This weapon cannot be infused with Ashes of War or Buffed.
- The Halo Scythe can be upgraded by using Somber Smithing Stones
- While the Ash of War has a lengthy wind-up and a delayed projectile, the weapon portion (after the 1.07 buff) connects with enemies, providing additional damage - about 55% of a light attack - and Blood loss Buildup at close range.
- Causes Blood loss Buildup: (55).
- Sell Value: 200
- Anti-block: ignores 50% damage negation from blocks, heavy- and charge attacks ignore more
- Base drop rate is 2% (at 100 Discovery).
- NOTE: As of Patch 1.08, the speed of some attacks has been increased and the recovery time has been reduced.
- NOTE: As of Patch 1.09, the scaling values of this weapon were changed. Please refer to the Upgrades Table of this weapon below.

Just had one drop at shaded castle from knight on small walkway Bridge near middle backside of castle
Note that it is not true that only the patrolling knights have these scythes. Some of the ones that rise out of the swamp also use scythes.

Holy **** lmao I just decided to get one of these so I went to the Heart of Aeonia grace, blasted the first rot knight I saw, and she dropped this (and nothing else). I mean, I have the Silver Scarab talisman so I was expecting my luck to be better, but.............
- Anonymous
im very confused on why this has the worst faith scaling out of the cleanrot sombers but the highest faith req out of them
- Anonymous
I feel like this weapon was designed around Miquella's Great Rune. In the DLC trailer there is a rune that is sticking out of the ground that could be version of his great rune and it looks very similar to the design of this.
- Anonymous
I'm going to try to get a second one of these for dual-wield.
- Anonymous
I wasn't even farming for this, I just killed two of those soldiers and the second one dropped this.
- Anonymous
It’s weird how this weapon needs somber smithing stones to be upgraded when YOU CAN HAVE MULTIPLE OF THEM the best reason i can tell why this weapon needs somber smithing stones to be upgraded is it has a SPECIAL skill like WHY?
- Anonymous
To the Cleanrot Knight that invaded Commander O'Neil's arena while I was fighting him and his cursed army, and annoyed the hell out of me with those damn rings, and refilled my empty flasks when I decided to beat the **** out of you, and then had the kindness of dropping a Halo Scythe, thank you.

Pick deprived, get the soreseal, and the perfumer set from the swamp these cleanrot knights are in, take a bunch of free grave runes from end game areas, buy the zweihander for 3500, which you can now two hand with the sore seal, get the zwei to +4, go to the forest with blaidd and get the butt stomp ash of war to make the zwei heavy scaling, go to the grace by the commander boss and farm the single cleanrot knight there, get behind him and start with a jump off your horse heavy attack into three or four lights until stagger, visceral attack, then r2 poke or butt stomp, this should be a wombo combo for the knight. After that just rinse and repeat.

Was doing a pure dex build - no faith, no int, no arcane, no-thing, just dex. And this thing, this bloody unicorn that didn't drop after hours on my quality-faith build, appeared on a random knight I decided to kill for no reason. The little devil controlling drop chances within the code has been cursing me since dark souls, 10 whole years. I-I can't I just-

A slight tip for farming these, if the cleanrot knight has a white drop, then you know that it is only a cleanrot sword and can skip it, unless you want the sword

Holy is not good at End Game! Holy Scythe: Hold my Rings of Light
- Anonymous
The one Cleanrot Knight that comes from under the rot just west of the Heart of Aeonia wields a Halo Scythe as well. He pops up right next to where three swords are sticking out of the rot.

Enemy drops should be more frequent the higher level the area is

As of 1.09, this weapon remains incredible. The AoW is absolutely busted, and will be a godsend against nimble targets, headshotting dragons and other big guys.
I dual wielded it with Winged Scythe for most of my playthrough and the Jumping L+1 would melt through bosses with claw talisman. 35 Dex - 50 Faith is what I had in endgame and I basically killed all the late game bosses with jumping L1s
- Anonymous
Is 10 the maximum upgrade level for this weapon? Or can I go higher?
- Anonymous
The ash of war's projectiles don't proc winged sword insignia, but its melees do
- Anonymous
For all of the trigger-happy L2 mashers, at least get close enough to the target so it can build up bleed, while tossing the halo(s).
- Anonymous
What I want to know is, is it worth the farming effort as a viable or cool effect weapon... before I go through the RNG pain?
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
If you’re doing an RL1 run or just want it early you can summon Polyanna at inner aeonia grace to make it easier.
- Anonymous
I somehow got this on my second kill south of Heart of Aoneia grace when I came here to farm it. The RNG gods were smiling upon me.
- Anonymous
I somehow pulled 2 of these with 160 discovery before i got the full armor set.
Still no spear though....
- Anonymous
AoW does pretty good damage actually (assuming you aren't using it against high holy defense enemies), and it's pretty cheap to use even if you treat it as your main "incantation" for exploring areas or even fighting bosses. Not sure if it's "meta", but pretty cool weapon
- Anonymous
Dropped off a cleanrot knight in consecrated snowfield catacombs for me. It was the knight hiding in the corner to the left in a room of two of them
- Anonymous
This weapon is perfect. Love shrekking dual katana seppuku weebs with this bad boy
- Anonymous
I compared the performance of this weapon between two different rl168 +25/10 builds, a faith build with 80 faith and 27 dex, and a dex build with 99 dex and 16 faith. AoW damage was tested on albinaurics. I will compare them below.
Faith build:
649 ar 1319 AoW damage
Dex build:
743 ar 1071 AoW damage
Conclusion: this weapon is really awkward, and you basically have to choose between weapon ar (dex) or AoW damage (faith). The weapon ar is decent on a pure dex build, but then the AoW damage suffers. On a pure faith build the weapon has beyond terrible ar, but can be used as a high damage and long ranged AoW stick.

in the process of farming this i got 7 cleanrot helmets, 3 armors, 5 gauntlets, 1 greave, 1 trina's lily, 5 cleanrot swords and probably over 100k runes, i farmed by going from inner aeonia and going south for the guy that patrols around the tree stump thing then to 2 that are south west of that, 1 of which comes up from the swamp. then either teleporting back to the grace or just torrenting back if i have the fowl active.

Despite the absolute joke of it’s scaling this weapon is pretty good.

Ash of War is unexpectedly strong, lol. I thought it would be weaker than the Sacred Ring of Light ash you can put on regular weapons since that's how it goes with other "clone" non-contact ashes, but no. It's got better range and the damage within like 5% difference-- I guess that's why the name of the ash is different. Game would have been totally different if I knew this was a good long range alternative for someone who likes everything in gold
- Anonymous
So I Started going into Caelid. Didn't know this existed because I was new. No joke, I got this on my first ever Cleanrot knight.
- Anonymous
So to speak, as of 1.09, this is probably one of the better/best faith weapons that exist. It has bleed, it's not super heavy, it ignores some damage negation from blocks (idk how true 40% is but its more than a lot of other weapons), and it can be acquired decently early. The ash of war is fantastic and absolutely worth speccing into. It's cheap, ONLY scales on faith, has tracking in the initial animation, can target flying and close enemies, is spammable/chainable, and has decent range. I used this for most of my initial playthrough and it's very worth farming for.
- Anonymous
Found this randomly as I explored Caelid. Carried me through the rest of the game

i farmed 1h in the scarlet rot...nothing
then i got 3 in the next 5min.
guess whos duo wielding now and still got one for his buddy left

I sit here 3 hours into farming this with everything possible to raise discovery FML
- Anonymous
Played 130+ hours with my faith build, nothing. Started another int character, the first knight I killed dropped it. Wtf...
- Anonymous
This and the spear took way longer to farm than it should have been
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
I'm running a pure faith build atm, and while the weapons AR is quite low at 550, the weapon art deals MUCH more damage. I'm guessing the weapon art scales off of Faith.

you can get 3-4 foul feet in one run north of the coastal cave in limgrave if you want higher item discovery

got all of it in a span of maybe 30-45 minutes. killing lesser knights in aeonia swamp,
got:
6 armours
4 swords
4 helmets
3 greaves
3 gauntlets
1 spear
1 scythe
so three full sets of armour, one set of weapons
and some spare
113 discovery lol, used the silver fowl leg a couple times

Got one early before even killing the boss nearby. Wanted to look up the drop rate and goddamn. All my luck is gone now
- Anonymous
I'm sorry, you guys that are farming these. I got 3 of them in 15 minutes while farming for THE ARMOR, so I probably used up all your luck.
- Anonymous
10 swords, 8 helms, 8 chest, 7 gauntlets, 4 greaves, and a bunch of Trina’s lily before my first scythe. Still need one more and the spears too :/

Did some testing to find out the damage scaling for the weapon art.
16 Faith, Base Equip Str/Dex and +9 is 753 on a Limgrave Giant.
40 Faith, Base Equip Str/Dex and +9 is 835 on a Limgrave Giant.
99 Faith, Base Equip Str/Dex and +9 is 913 on a Limgrave Giant.
Either stay at 15 Faith or hit 40 for the softcap on the weapon art.

The drop rate on these things sucks. I've been farming a cleanrot knight with a sycthe south of the heart of aenoia or however you spell it, for about 3 hours today with the silver scarab on and my aracane as high as I could get it without respecing (ithink it was sitting right at 40). I know I'm on the right CR Knight because he has the Sycthe, but he's dropped all the items in his set several times and multiple cleanrot swords. What am I doing wrong?
- Anonymous
A few days ago, a fellow player dropped this for me while we were both summoned to help clear Morne Castle, along with some Noble Slender swords and a Cleanrot Spear.
My guy, if you’re reading this, I’d like to buy you a drink one of these days.

i dont know why, but the art of war doesnt work properly, both when targeting and ehen aiming with no target, the disk simply choses a random direction, often even opposite to the player orientation.
bug?

I have a level 404 character with 120+ hours on him with many different holy damage builds. Personally, I find THIS to be the best holy damage option in the game using the ring of light. It's spammable, has great range, and great damage. I find this easier to build for than the golden order incantations. While the wiki says the WA scales off faith, I found a much more noticeable impact from upgrading the weapon itself.
I did some testing on the Albinaurics in Mohgwyn Palace using larval tears to change my faith. At 99 faith with the Shard of Alexander and Sacred Scorpion Charm with a +10 Halo Scythe, I did 1793 damage. Going down to 40 faith with the same build, I did 1618. The extra 59 levels in faith provided about an 11% increase in damage to my skill. Using a +0 Halo Scythe with 99 faith and the aforementioned talismans did 260 damage.
When using this in PvE, it is important to have a decent amount of distance between yourself and the enemy before using this. It is difficult to use in cramped areas or hitting an enemy at different elevations. Otherwise, going through NG+4 I use this skill to kill every boss except the ones with crazy holy resist (Maliketh, Elden Beast, etc.)

Probably my favorite weapon it’s so fun to dual wield and can become a great spamming weapon on bosses or tough enemies and the bleed helps with holy resist mobs. Problem is late game it falls of hard due to the holy but man it very fun early to mid game.

With the right build melt a death bird until it’s just a sad little puddle!

Started a pure faith build and have used this from beginning to end. The WA has good range, tracks, stuns, and you can spam it. The only bosses I have had issues with is the really big fat ones and the Butt-hole Skin duo at Crumbling Farm. Astel was "so-so." I killed Mohg with this. I have been using the Envoy Longhorn on end game dragons. As others have stated it tends to hit in front of mobs that are low to the ground so be aware (dogs, imps, blobs, small rats). It's worth getting and using just for the WA. One of the better weapons in the game for a ranged faith build. I used this constantly from Margit to the Capital bosses. It's very reliable and I highly recommend keeping it in your inventory.

Overall decent Scythe , i'd say it comes to being the Best scythe in the game for the Bleed it has.... The added Holy damage does also great even if wielded by 1 hand. ( As for the Ashe of War skill its pretty situational but also comes to use when you can Free aim spam cast them without Locking-on Targets , this way the Ring can actually land as when it travels after the delay it goes pretty fast ). The range is not quite the best , but for Pure Dex/Faith builds this Scythe has the biggest AR combined with the Holy damage and Bleed Status.
- Anonymous
Very good for punishing runaway players, flask chuggers, and slow-casting spells.
- Anonymous
I love the critical/backstab animation on this weapon. Just hook and rip, brutal.
I get that it's a scythe but why does this do bleed? The Cleanrot Knights using it (thankfully) don't deal bleed. Just seems a little unnecessary.
- Anonymous
Finally got it after 28 times of getting armor and even did a cool Zoro cut with my curved swords while I did it. (Also went to another one and got it again)
- Anonymous
This would be great if the weapon art didn't get stuck on terrain half the time, it's literally unusable anywhere other than perfectly flat open areas
- Anonymous
I just dual-wielded this thing and fought Radagon with them. Despite the weapon dealing holy damage and bleed, both of which don't really affect Radagon, this thing absolutely clapped, and second-tried him at Rune Level 130- very strong weapon, despite having worse scaling than the Cleanrot Spear it ironically does far more damage.
- Anonymous
70 faith and this weapon art dmg still sucks dookie in pve compared to many other (still underwhelming but better/faster/stronger) incantations. Can't compete with the hp sponges From decided to put everywhere lategame. You play full faith and put all the other points into mind because you will spam that weapon art all day long and have to chuck blues nonstop to kill 5 enemies. Spells are no problem since you can just bust your nut on an enemy all day long with sodasteam (comet azur spell).
Statistics's a b***h. Got it second try while I wanted other items :/

Quick farming route I used - 3 kills in a minute or so. (I have no idea how to format on this site, so I imagine this is going to be hideous)
Don't forget your Discovery/Arcane gear: Silver Tear Mask, Silver Scarab, Silver Fowl Feet: https://i.imgur.com/dJvJWb5.jpeg

From the first knight, face southish and pop over the root. You'll see the second knight there: https://i.imgur.com/PAH4Wsd.jpeg

This weapon has the best range and tracking weapon art of anything I have used with the MRoL. You can just spam it over and over again for good damage. Only thing I don't like is that you lunge forward when you use the WA, but that's really minor. At low to mid levels it obliterates anything. I tried it against Alecto for giggles, and it kept her away and in retreat the whole fight. Again, the tracking is pretty insane. Well worth it to go farm this and get one. Don't let the scaling turn you away.
- Anonymous
Would you get this around mid-game by following the grace path?
- Anonymous
Farmed the 2 knights in shaded castle for an hour never got a scythe finally got a Spear after getting 4 Swords and 3 sets of the armor, went to heart of aeonia and got 2 scythe of 2 mobs back to back.
- Anonymous
absolutely destroys in open areas where the rings dont get caught on walls. the range and damage output is nutty
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
Probably the worst scythe in the game. Has bad scaling, especially in the stat that increases the damage for the AoW. The AoW is also shared with an already-usable AoW on other weapons, which get the benefit of better scaling and movesets. Idk what From thinks when they make weapons like this, because they’re just outright worse than more basic weaponry.

Whenever I see people trying to use this on an end game boss I feel bad for them. I still donno why they choose to give holy damage a massive short end for the end game for reasons other than lore accuracy.
- Anonymous
Pure speculation, but I think the ash scales off fth primarily. My opponent at RL125 had enough fth to cast elden stars while wearing the clean rot set and all that. His rings were doing ABSURD damage through my tree sentinel armor/shield. So betting it scales off fth rather than str/dex.

Does anyone have the problem wit this weapon's weapon art just firing in random directions(even straight up or down) and not hitting the enemy?

very nice and fun weapon, however one annoying thing is if there's uneven ground or a tiny branch the ash of war will not hit.

Very underated. Got it from heart of Aeonia. Can run alongside the special attack. Good moveset. Bleed buildup. I use it on my pure faith/base golden order greatsword build. Special is very good against enemies due to low FP cost. Replaces ranged spells that cost way too much FP.
