Hand of Malenia is a Katana in Elden Ring. The Hand of Malenia scales primarily with Strength and Dexterity and is a good Weapon for Samurai Build and Bleed Builds.
Blade built into Malenia's prosthetic arm.
Through consecration it is resistant to rot.
Malenia's war prosthesis symbolized her victories.
Some claim to have seen wings when the weapon was raised aloft;
wings of fierce determination that have never known defeat.

You can actually fight Malenia before completing Mountaintops of the Giants by collecting and using the secret passage Medallion when you arrive at the Mountaintops. I found out by accident.
- Anonymous
Mostly disappointing, but at least you feel kind of cool using it. As a PvE player there are definitely better options. And while I understand the lore reason why this doesn't deal Scarlet Rot build up, it is a bit of a shame that it doesn't.
- Anonymous
I sure hope from will buff this a bit more for pvp. Maybe faster windup and longer jumprange. Sadly its too easy to counter or to just roll out from. But when you manage to jump in 3 dudes and catch all of them.. man best feeling you can have in an invasion :D
- Anonymous
I can’t get down to the invader cheese spot anymore it’s bouncing off the walls now during the weapon art
- Anonymous
It's a shame they didn't add Malenia's prosthetic glove instead of this usual shank as a handle, it would look much cooler :(
- Anonymous
I dont get it. Why doesn't do her blade a scarlet rod but a bleed.
- Anonymous
Deals about 6% more damage than keen Nagakiba at 80 dex. Not worth the range loss and useless AoW. Naga can also be buffed. Deals equal damage to blood Nagakiba at 80 dex/arc. Nagakiba is just better.
- Anonymous
Most swaggerless katana ever. They wanted us to like this so bad
- Anonymous
Yet another weapon that is so much better than everything in the game it ruins everything.
I’ve tried multiple pvp builds attempting to be creative, b there’s no point when weapons like this exist. And most host are moonveil, scarlet rot spamming, 2 over leveled phantoms mouth breathers.
This time accurately will kill the host, and most of the time the phantoms also. Stacked with damage talismans I’m obliterating all their health and killing all 3 with one L2 combo. It’s stupid and uncreative as can be, but it one of the few options to deal with 3v1 eggheads.
The strongest physical katana, about 40ap over uchi/nag/serpent at 80dex.
- Anonymous
For some reason when using the AoW, your pierce damage negation is lowered by maybe -30%.
- Anonymous
for some reason in my game, buffing myself with flame grant me strength and commander standard is making this do less damage. i have no clue what's happening. first attack sequence going from doing around 1800 to doing 600 ._.

If you’ve never tried one of these, it’s like the Greatsword version of a Thrusting Sword, and sort of fills a similar niche to a Katana in that it’s a medium sized, still fast but ‘heavier’ dexterity weapon. Like Katanas, they’re fast enough to deal good bleed while still strong enough to reliably stagger enemies.
- Anonymous
So it's not getting buffed, huh? Sad. Could at least give the weaponart increased bleed buildup, like the Frayed Blade in DS3. Risky long windup for a good bleed reward. But no, let's give curved and twinblades quadruple hits and instant procs on single attacks instead. FROM make excellent games, but their balancing SUCKS!
- Anonymous
the only thing i would change about this weapon is giving it serpentbone blade R2s, since malenia kinda has a flurry attack like that
- Anonymous
I am Hand of Malenia, Blade of Malenia, Blade of Miquella, Hand of Miquella.

The part about duplicating it, giving one to Enia now and the second as soon as you get access to her, I think after killing Godrick at Stormveil in NG+ I only had three Mausoleums after duplicating what I wanted for my first playthrough and I didn't think of getting two of these. If I go to the first mausoleum in weeping peninsula in my NG+ will I get the option to duplicate remembrances I've already cashed in with Enia or will they be wiped clean until I beat those bosses again? I really can't see myself beating Malenia in NG+ her nightmare second phase was hard enough the first time.
- Anonymous
*jumps out of well and presses L2 on Malenia*
NOW I'VE GOT YOUE POWERS
Malenia then proceeded to punch me in the face.
- Anonymous
Still wishing this weapon had a unique standing R2. I’d imagine it could be that dashing overhead slash Malenia does when you first fight her, something that can be charged to increase the distance. Maybe have it switch to her retreating slash if you backstep during the charge, sort of like how curved swords work.
- Anonymous
weapon art is currently bugged. if you mash L2 after being parried you can just instantly start the weapon art again.
- Anonymous
Sleeper weapon for invasions since a lot of players just don't respect it and get destroyed trading, also rather often bad ganks just bunch up and explode simultaneously.
More decent players will just keep their distance, dodge out of it in time or parry you so it's not that great for duels.
- Anonymous
Why does a Katana - that I need to defeat Malenia and have 48 Dex for - only has a B scaling in Dex when +10ed?
malenia screwed me one last time by giving me a katana that requires a mask, talisman, and a knot tear, only for it to consistently miss anything that isn't a mosh pit of enemies.
- Anonymous
I wish this weapon was shorter. I mean, sure, longer weapon = longer reach, but oversized weapons tend to look pretty ridiculous, and Fashion Ring (Elden Fashion?) is more important to me than an extra foot of reach.
- Anonymous
Wish it had a cosmetic interaction with Malenia's Gauntlet where it would have the lever attachment that connects the blade to the hand when used together.
- Anonymous
I'm annoyed by the people who keep complaining about scaling when AR is all that matters. Hard numbers:
70 Dex
Hand of Malenia - B - 611AR
Keen Uchigatana - A - 571AR
Keen Slender Sword - A - 501AR
Keen Flamberge - A - 651AR
Keen Naginata - A - 596AR
If you've noticed so far, all of these weapons have "better" scaling than this katana., but all fall short of even breaking the 600AR barrier. The only weapon that makes it is the flamberge, which in fact, is a ****ing greatsword and doesn't attack nearly as fast as any of these smaller weapons. I've also chosen 70DEX cus its high, meaning base damage should play a minimal role in this, and what do you know it still comes out on top.
But no this weapon is useless right? so shite cus it doesnt get AR comparable to a colossal weapon right? Elden ring needs more damage in its weapons right? everything deserves S scaling at this point, why even bother
- Anonymous
I'm so sick of Fromsoft trashing on katanas. This needs to have a S dex scaling, a C strength scaling, and AT LEAST a B faith scaling when at max. Scarlet rot buildup 80. bleed buildup 65, deathblight buildup 45. And hyperarmor on the ash alongside significantly reduced damage taken when hit winding up or during the move itself. Stamina cost should be halved. First heavy attack shoud be that lightning quick lunge she does out of the cutscene, and the followup shoud be the the triple wrist slash. should restore player health when you hit something. Needs a much higher base attack rating when upgraded, and the ash of wars range NEEDS to be buffed. I really like the way it looks and would like to use it in PVP but Fromsoft doesnt understand weapon balance and Player Reward. I fought the goddess of rot for this it should be good, not pathetic. Also the fact that you can parry the skill is completely #$%@&*^(!), its a jumping attack. Help me speak out, this needs to be fixed in the next patch.
- Anonymous
As with everything in this game, it's cooler when the boss uses it.
- Anonymous
48 Dex requirement for B scaling? Why is Elden Ring so stingy with giving out S scalings?
- Anonymous
The weapon art will NEVER hit a skilled player. Just use dual bleed spears.
- Anonymous
before starting NG+, I’ve been hunting down bosses I missed using waterfowl dance and fire giant incantations. It’s been like… therapy
- Anonymous
I’ve seen no comment on how the ability is cracked in PvP I know it has a long start up but if your far enough away it dashes to them quickly and melts people especially if they have no shield and try to roll away from it but then get caught by it and also induces panic and fear

They should've made it so that if you used malenia's gauntlet you'll gain a special R2 where you do the swoosh swoosh swoosh thing malenia does when her prostethic flashes
- Anonymous
This should have been ER's Chaos Blade.
We hold it at the blade, like the Hiltless. It should damage us. But it should also deal tremendous damage, as it's made from very exquisite material. As it is now, properly infused katanas deal just as much damage while being fully buffable.
- Anonymous
People aruging whether blood loss should be replaced by Rot or not. Actually why not both? The weapon is not that powerful to begin with, I think with the addition of rot on top of bleed, it will be a more attractive weapon
- Anonymous

Should have had innate Scarlet Rot build up instead of Bleed.
"But the description!"
The description states "Through consecration it is resistant to rot."
It is resistant to rot. As in, it won't be eaten away by being near the Goddess of Rot. Nothing stops you slathering the thing in Rot, if anything, it being resistant means you CAN do that and still have a sword left at the end.
It doesn't produce an aura that dispells rot (If the material did, then her arm and legs wouldn't still be getting eaten away by rot despite having the prosthesis attached now would they? And the Cleanrot Knights whom are clad in the material wouldn't have rotted away either) nor is it actually inside a person which is what stymies rot in a person who constantly produces it like Malenia and Millicent (Though, it's noted that Miquella's needle didn't work for Malenia, the needle has only been shown effective for Millicent)
On top of that, it would have been nice to make it a bit more unique among Katanas, which typically have bleed anyway. As well as being a nice contrast to the weapon art by being a long term damage over time effect alongside Waterfowl Dance's immediate burst damage, which would also encapture Malenia's character to boot (The excellent swordsman and the curse of her Scarlet Rot).
Instead of being a meme-y burst damage machine that randomly applies a status completely unconnected to Malenia (She doesn't bleed during her fight and nothing in her lore connects her to blood)

Cool weapon. It just really bothers me that the sword has no handle - you just... hold it by the blade. Just a bit of pickiness on my part I suppose
- Anonymous
This + malenia helm, greaves, and gauntlets + Lionel's armor = McDonald's Malenia
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
I maxed out my dex because I wanted a full Malenia build, and with rotten wing, millicent's prosthesis, and shard of alexander, I'm doing around 7000 damage per full waterfowl rotation. My build isn't realistic outside of ng+, but it's very fun to use.
- Anonymous
From should've made this weapon inflict rot and not bleed. Malenia uses rot so why can't this weapon inflict rot?
This has the highest pure physical DPS in the game with some good bleed.
At lvl 260 I’m waltzing through NG5 and NG6.
Max dex and put 60 str/dex/end. Now you can wear full bull goat and Powerstance two of these.
The ash of war with this is insane with this setup because you can get like 15 hits in lol

Wanna know why this is absolutely the BEST katana? No stupid big sheath hanging off ya.

Fun fact equipping Malenia's great rune changes the colour of waterfowl dance from her phase 1 to her phase 2.
- Anonymous
Why does she not bleed us when she uses it but it has bleed on it? What happened there?
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
Why... is it bleed? Isn't this the Goddess of Rot's weapon? You know? Rot? The status effect? Her name isn't Malenia, Goddess of Bleed! It's rot! A status effect that you can inflict with the Scarlet Aeonia incantation! That you get from the Goddess of Rot's remembrance! That you also can use to get this weapon! WHAT IS GOING ON!!!
FYI, the Golden Vow AoW (not the spell) appears to have a negative affect on this weapon's ash of war. Through my admittedly minimal testing it doesn't seem to affect other stuff. (All I did was test the spell and use a couple different multi-hit AoWs, such as the 6-hit inaptly named double slash)

Fixing this thing is easy, give it some poise while Waterfowl Dancing, remove Bleed and allow it to be applied with buffs.
- Anonymous
is this viable in a level 80 invasion build? together with winged sword insignia + millicent talisman? I figured I can still wear the bull goat talisman to add poise so even if i have 40 vig 25 end, I feel it can work. just need to time the waterfowl and be good at baiting it, I'd guess

Waterfowl when you fight it as a boss: Chad pic
Waterfowl when it joins your party: Derp face

I can’t be the only one that thinks this should’ve gotten a unique moveset when equipped with Malenia’s Gauntlet, right?
I mean, the whole point is that the blade is part of a prosthetic arm.
- Anonymous
A hot take but this thing could've been this game's equivalent for the Chaos Blade or Hitlless, seeing that it's literally a sharp piece of metal that's part of Malenia's prosthesis. It will function like your usual Chaos Blade would, but it will stop draining your health if you equip Malenia's gauntlets because that's the intended use of the weapon.
- Anonymous
I am very disappointed that this weapon does not stack scarlet rot. And somehow a fully dex oriented weapon only has B scale on it
- Anonymous
This requires 48 Dex and 16 Str while the Frayed Blade in DS3 needs 40 Dex and 11 Str to wield. Both of these weapons are similar in that they are essentially endgame weapons that you gain from killing an endgame boss. If this doesn't prove that Elden Ring expects you to level up more than DS3 did, I have plenty of other examples. Elden Ring pvp should have a higher meta level than DS3, change my mind.

For a "legendary weapon", I find it sad that the sword's AR is way lower than a Guardian Swordspear. My +10 HOM has about 650 compared to a +25 Guardian Swordspear which has a 792 AR. You'd think that the Swordspear is slow as hell, but not really - it has comparable swing speed with Katanas.
The HOM Ash of War does good damage but is easily interruptible, while the Guardian Swordspear can have different ashes of war and deals even better damage.
Hand of Malenia really needs a bit of tweaking.
- Anonymous
That’s a pretty cool ash of war you got there. Mind if I giant hunt real quick?
- Anonymous
I was hoping for just a little bit of healing upon hitting something, even if it was from the weapon art only. Bit disappointed but still awesome weapon.
I have a +10 one of these, if anyone wants to trade me a Sacred relic sword (whatever level).
- Anonymous
I think it should have D in STR. This way quality builds wouldnt be as useless as they are now
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
Damn i was hoping it would heal you on hits like it does for her. The butchering blade does it but it's miniscule compared to how much she heals in the boss fight.
- Anonymous
Reminds me of the Frayed Blade. High Dex Scaling, neat katana, cool skill, and it comes from an endgame boss.
- Anonymous
This weapon is actually brilliant in pvp. You just need to time the WA not use it as an insta win button.
- Anonymous
Annihilating the banished knights in the dragon temple with Waterfowl after the rage they caused feels absolutely euphoric
- Anonymous
Everyone is talking about the AoW or the scaling, but I haven't seen anyone mentioning that this is actually the best katana damage wise for a pure dex build, having 641 physical damage at 80 dex. It's also the second longest katana as far as I know.
- Anonymous
Great weapon all around. Highest damaging katana on my 55/55 quality build. Only issue is the Ash uses wayyyy too much stamina. Works fine as an opener, but in bossfights you finally get that opening to use it but cant finish the skill because youre out of stamina.
- Anonymous
I am having a brilliant time with this weapon and Misericorde.
Running R2 poke is incredible for spacing and pressure and one of my favourite weapon designs.
Regarding the WS (very similar to Friede’s Great Scythe from DS3) An absolute visual treat but with massive wind up, against players who understand it, you are in danger.
View it as three separate attacks - with three opportunities for opponents to counter and you will be fine. Know when to cut it short and mix up attacks.
This weapon does not need higher scaling. Due to the multi hit nature of the weapon (and talismans to boost this), your damage will never be correctly reflected by AR.
Always keep some exalted flesh and fan daggers on you and go have some fun!

- goddess of rot's weapon
- doesn't do scarlet rot build up

Quite good for random invasions where you can devastate multiple players with Waterfowl Dance, but falls short in duel settings where good players will avoid or even bait out the AoW. The AoW is the real selling point for the weapon, especially if you like similar skills like Sword Dance.
- Anonymous
Everyone complaining about this weapons scaling are forgetting it has one of the spammiest, L2 and forget weapon skills. I wish it did at least 20-30 scarlet rot build up in addition to the bleed tho.. I mean she is the goddess of rot…

For a 48Dex weapon it's really dissapointing. It has blood affinity but doesn't scale with Arc, so it'll stay at 50 Blood forever.
When I reached Malenia I had Uchigatana and Nagakiba +25 with blood affinity. I'm a Dex/Arc build, and both weapons have 110 Blood build up. Upgraded Hand of Malenia to +10 and both Uchigatana and Nagakiba outperforms it, in every way. The WA is good, but unlike Malenia's, it's easily parried/interrupted. Uchigatana and Nagakiba offer way more flexibility with WA.
All in all, a nice Fashion Souls weapon, but outperformed by other weapons of its class that offer more for less requirements. IMO it only needs Arc scaling to justify the 48 Dex requirement.
- Anonymous
Does anyone know a budget version of this weapon's skill? The closest thing I found was Flowing Curved Sword with Endure + full R2. Does anyone else have a better alternative?
(I'm trying to have an alternative to this on my strength build)

48 dex requirement but only gets B in dex? dafuq even a swordspear gets A in keen dex at full upgrade..they should increase its scaling tier for that requirement

Kinda disappointing not having the life steal of Malenia, not a good damage, Ashe of war impressive but not usable, the hemorrhage is overcome by many other weapons, if it has a little bit of the Malenia's life steal would be understadable, but it hasn't. I'm not a dex player but i dont think the weapon is worth using.

Is this weapon actually any good? I upgraded it to +10 on a lark before doing Farum Azula, and I just seriously roflstomped that first dragon lmao.

Don't have proof but I felt after 1.04 you have a bit hyper armor when leaping into the air. I had very low poise (malenia's armor) yet I was still able to pull off the flurry after being hit by halberd banished knight or two hits from smaller enemies, which rarely happened in 1.03. Bosses can still easily knock you down though. Does anyone else have similar experience?
- Anonymous
The waterflow dance skill allows for some serious air control. This makes certain platforming areas far easier, and lets you navigate in ways normally impossible with or without Torrent.
Great if you want to bypass the sewers to get to the frenzied flame faster, once you’ve located the elevator.
- Anonymous
Does the weapon art receive a bonus from the Shard Of Alexander?
- Anonymous
Can be easily countered in pvp, can easily dodged, and you can get knocked 100% in mid air...the initial .3 seconds of the skill is a disappointment.
The boss, Malenia, However, is quite unstoppable when she uses this. That is why the melee dex build is getting so clowned upon coz its
so underpowered that the players opt is to just go full blood-loss build.
You go to so much hassle to acquire this weapon that its for pve only.
Devs were merciful not to have Malenia inflict bleed, when her weapon is perfectly capable of doing that.
Would have made her even more insane boss fight than she is.
