Heavy Thrusting Swords are a type of Weapon in Elden Ring. Heavy Thrusting Swords focus on piercing attacks and are best used to counter or follow-up an enemy's attack. Their extra weight packs some extra physical attack power and still allows players to use this weapon with a Shield.
Heavy Thrusting Swords can be modified by a number of Ashes of War to change their Skills or Damage Type, so play around with them and see what you like.
Heavy Thrusting Swords have a built-in feint. Press dodge while charging a heavy attack, and another animation will happen. Sword Lance excluded.
Note: Patch 1.08 The speed of Heavy Thrusting Swords crouching attacks has been reduced. The stagger caused by powerstanced Heavy Thrusting Swords jumping attacks has been reduced. Poise damage has also been reduced, but only for PVP.
Note: Patch 1.14 Increased the attack speed of the uncharged version of the first heavy attack.
Shadow of the Erdtree, added 2 new weapons to this category: Queelign's Greatsword and Sword Lance.

it's cool how with HTS you're just prancing around, gliding serenely through the air, and then when you gently poke an enemy it explodes.
- Anonymous
Imagine being Fromsoft and nerfing the wrong category of Weapons (Nerfed HTS running R2 instead of TS running attacks xD)
- Anonymous
are we just gonna ignore the fact that these get the AR of colossal weapons but are as fast as straight swords? plus these get piercing damage? and the best two handed moveset in the game? like this is straight up the best weapon class in the game and its not close
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
It's here guys, with 1.14 patch we can poke R2 after rolling at almost the same speed and recovery time as R1, but with MUCH better range and damage ofc (tracking of R2 is still bad tho). Honestly, it's so much better now, wow.

- Anonymous
they should have just turned into light greatsords with the dlc
- Anonymous
Aside of moveset, what's the difference between these and greatspears? Comparing great epee and the lance, they seem similar
- Anonymous
if you are looking to play with just one thrusting sword and not need to powerstance for it to be decent in pve without abusing an ash of war skill, this is it.
great for counter attacks as they have higher base damage and the window being very small for counter attacks anyways meaning you hit harder in each counter attack and so it pairs really well with counter attacking strategies such as out ranging the enemy when the enemy attack misses but yours don't or simply comfortably poking from behind a shield or delivering a jump counter attack.
they also have better poise break than normal thrusting swords so you can definitly try to poise break enemies with just regular heavy attacks and actually expect to poise break the enemies in a reasonable amount of time.
the only negative in comparison to normal thrusting swords is that these are slower, but you get so much more from these if you're planning to play just a straight up physical attack build without relying on status effects where as the normal thrusting swords kinda feel gimped without status effects.
essentially the difference between heavy and normal thrusting sword is that heavy thrusting swords deal single devastating thrusts and the normal thrusting swords rely on a thousand thrusts approach tickling the enemy to death.

If I'm running 20/40/40/50/10 str/Dex/int/fth/arc is it worth farming to pump an extra 10 into arc to hit softcap and running Helice? Or would it be better with a respec and heavier investment in arc?
This weapon is incredible for a faith/dex playstyle if you enjoy using spears. It looks like a spear and handles like one, but it features the fantastic heavy thrusting sword moveset. I achieve the same attack rating with this as I do with a great spear, but this weapon is much faster with its moveset. In my opinion, this spear has no drawbacks for the faith/dex playstyle and, in my opinion, outperforms the Fire Knight's Greatsword due to its swift moveset.
- Anonymous
I really wanna like HTS, but the moveset is just so bland, just stabs with different intensity
- Anonymous
Running this with Dragon Communion seal and buckler has made me an unstoppable force. Brb gonna go throw 272514 more runes into Arcane.
- Anonymous
They annihilated the tracking on running r2. HTS bros... it's over...
- Anonymous
Light attack whiffs Dogs and Carian Hands
Heavy attack is slow enough to get punished by both
If only wielding one it's hard mode PvE enabled since the stagger level is also nonexistent

Called a greatsword
Looks like a spear
Is actually a heavy thrusting sword

This category is called heavy thrusting shield in the drop-down menu, maybe fix?

If you're calling it op for pvp then you have a lot to discover yet. Dual spears, dual straight swords, shamshir, dual greatspears, dual katanas, nagakiba, shunter, thrusting swords, offstoc, hyperarmor kgs merchants - all much more op options and require 0 skill to use.
HTS are a bane of bad players, they get constantly cought with running R2 and jumping attack. Sure they can be effective against good players and their meta setups, but it requires muh more than just spamming your spinning slash nagakiba, crouch with lances or just trading hits with your greatswords.

The weapon class that I use in colosseum when I just want to relax and chill, very easy and fun to use, and ungodly effective

Ah yes the running attack into running attack into running attack into running attack combo type of weapon, good Lord what's the point of making a moveset if you use only one move
- Anonymous
i swear man the distance of the running poke must be nerfed, use something else for Gwyn's sake
- Anonymous
Prepare for the running R2 because that is literally the only thing you will see players use.
- Anonymous
The running r2 allows me to do the same thing fromsoft dogs do and teleport to my cowardly prey. And for those who complain about it, please do yourselves a favor and turn around. Of course you'll get impaled if you dont even bother to check where is the thrust coming from.

I don’t play Elden Ring, because my computer is awful and I have no console, but I started browsing the wiki out of interest. I heard there was an estoc, so, of course, I check heavy thrusting swords to try to find it and it isn’t there. Later I learn that it is a normal thrusting sword, and that it has slashing attacks. Why name it an estoc, than? In what world would an estoc not be a heavy thrusting sword? Why can it cut? Just call it a rapier at that point.

Great epee Crit score on the Max frost infusion table is wrong. It displays godskin stitcher and great epee, all values seem correct, but great epee has 124 crit modifier. I wish

Having two godskin stitchers in ng+ with blood affinity on both (+seppuku on the main hand) makes this feel like a normal day in London! Especially when the footsolders attach you with their daggers too! But all Jokes aside, I love these swords, their moveset feels very elegant !

The heavy running is so busted and needs a nerf, I know, since I use a heavy thrusting sword.

Miyazaki really saw all the people saying thrusting swords weren't fun to play against and decided to make them longer and do more damage.

i really really hate how the first light attack will pretty much always miss a low enemy like dogs or wolves

Man, it sucks to see people only use these weapons only for the running heavy attack, the entire moveset and variations of it are so fun
- Anonymous
oh yes the running attack into running attack followed by a running attack, this game sure can be fun if you dont play only using one attack like a baboon

So light jump attack or heavy running attack. Okay bet I'll practice my backstabs if your gonna bring the boring crap into the arena.

Great Epee & Godskin Stitcher:
The running R2 is excellent for closing a gap with casters or for punctuating a hot pursuit. However, the running R2 can also (possibly) make you shoot past opponents if they're side-strafing, rolling off to the side, if they jump at you, or use a lunging or leaping Ash O' War about the same time as you run that R2 at them. Free Aiming: the R2-run attack helps in catching a horizontally moving target, but it also helps if you need to reposition or evade at the last second for whatever reason (a very budget FP-free quickstep).
I use the Great Epee, and it's pretty easy to catch people with a running R2, Giant Hunt follow up, and then a jumping R2 to *try* and get them while they're down. The running R2 also pairs well with a Storm Blade (surprise attack) follow up and gives these heavy thrusters a nice horizontal swing and even more range in case you're dealing with very nimble fighters who try to pull off a low health quick heal at some point.
But beware, slapping storm blade on one of these beauties can turn you into a stationary oscillating fan just blowing wind all over the place to no real effect and your opponent will also be aware that you have a ranged attack and horizontal swings on a weapon that usually only has one attack pattern: Poke.

The class I enjoy the most in PvP. People who spam running and jumping attacks (%99 of it's users) give it a bad name but it's really fun to use the distance advantage and somewhat slow light attacks. I especially love the Great Epee as the sweeping heavy attack is really usefull for roll catching. Though, I must admit, Bloody Helice is just cancer and Godskin's hilt is just pure garbage.

Fun and lore builds for host/phantoms and hts for blues, **** blues.

I see two kinds of people in these comments, those who use heavy thrusting swords, and those who dont.
- Anonymous
These are longer than the majority of the spears, while also being faster and with a better moveset. gg nice balancing.
- Anonymous
Why do they always give the fast weapons the longest reach? How im i supposed to close in on a player when they have the reach and speed advantage?
- Anonymous
Light rollers getting on your nerves? Not to worry. We installed rocket boosters into the hilt of every heavy thrusting sword that will jet you forward at mach 3 when using the running heavy attack.

I know people miss being able to use offhand weapon movesets but lets be real.
If they brought them back everyone would just put these in the offhand to use the running heavy attack on command.

sometimes you have to fight cancer with cancer. If I see a light-rolling mage build I'm instantly bringing my cragblade out and playing chasedown

I really dont get the complaints that people have in pvp for this class. The running r2 is a great tool for closing distance or chasing someone but as long as your not panic rolling its really easy to dodge. The rest of the moveset isn't even that good either which is why the playstyle for these centers around just the jumpin r1
- Anonymous
slower than most greatswords, the r2 carries the entire weapon class

Great hammers and collosals got buffed :) HTS still wins trades >:( It’s very simple: slightly nerf damage and strongly nerf their recoveries. These are supposed to be really good at pvp but they’re just too strong right now. I also think the stat requirements are too low for such awkwardly long weapons. Currently you can just stand in place, jump for invulnerability and trade on any whiff punishes. Oh yeah, the jumping attacks need a massive recovery penalty.

Honestly, these weapons are good but not broken. Whats op is the pierce damage and the spear talisman doing absurd amount of damage. They nerfed jump attacks, buffs and most damage stacking but pierce damage stacking. If you use this weapon without the spear talisman, you will need around 2-3 more hits to kill someone. Pierce damage stacking also promotes more poking and passive play rather than trading or an aggressive play (which isn't that fun when both players tend to be passive 80% of the time). From shouldn't nerf these weapons (Its AR or frame data) because its provides a different playstyle and is great to chase people/roll catch but just nerf piercing damage overall. Its gotten to the point where people just use Great spears, spears, thrusting sword and heavy thrusting sword exclusively in PvP if they want to win.
Ah yes, let’s get the damage of a greatsword but the frame data of a rapier. This can’t possibly go wrong!

Question for those that know more about these then i do since i haven't used this weapon class yet, are heavy thrusting swords more str or dex focused?

*The weapon class meant to be good at poking and whiff punishing is good at poking and whiff punishing*
"FromSoftware better fix this."

Used to hate them in early days, cause #1. I s u c k e d, #2: counter dmg was so insane it was oneshoting me no matter what.
Now they're fine to me. They're still top tier, or a tier below a total cancer, which are quickstep thrusting swords, but they definitely dont deserve the hate they receive right now (probably from players that struggle with running attacks)

I was testing out weapons for a jump attack pvp build the other day, and I was surprised that this medium weapon class has one of the fastest jumping R1s with the lowest recovery, faster than the small thrusting sword jumping R1, its closer to dagger speed.
Just slap on Raptor black feathers and claw talisman, and enjoy having the damage of an ultra, the speed of a dagger, the range of a spear, all while being invincible to most grounded attacks, and being immune to parries.
This weapon type may be the perfect pvp balance currently as long as you have enough poise against basic R1. It's very annoying if you can't poise because they can spam after running attack with only counterplay being parry or don't engage melee at all. Of course there is exceptions depending on setup but mostly not enough poise is bad time.
The damage is good. Running R2 can do a lot but it's easy to dodge and the jump attacks are good mixups. They also fixed the true combo with jump attack a while ago so that's not too insane either but still careful when you get hit because the follow up hits fast after jump attack. Regular thrusting swords are the real problematic ones since they pretty much do like 50 less damage on standard R1s but are so safe.

The powerstance moveset is fun, but suffers from crappy tracking
- Anonymous
Let me make this simple and logical. HTS win trades against collosals which is a huge problem and, HTS is very difficult to punish misses from without getting impaled. Then, the length on even shortest HTS is simply too long: collosal damage, katana speed with more range than the actual spears. They need much longer recoveries between attacks and should suffer from a heavy sweet spot penalty. A 10-20% damage nerf may be appropriate considering my epee impaling thrust has one shot on trades for 3 tali slots and possibly a headshot multiplier in there. These should be really good in pvp, but they’re way too good right now.
- Anonymous
Seems like most people agree that the running R2 is the problem with these weapons. Not normal attacks, not R1 running attack. So I'd say they need to tune down how this attack work because clearly many people dislike how they are used against them or by them.

I'm a PvE player only, I'll say first:
I find it interesting that the running R2 has me gliding across the screen like that librarian ghost from Ghostbusters, but the running L1 while powerstancing looks like I'm doing it in ****ing molasses

Nerf these into the ground in pvp. Ridiculous. Nothing but poke poke poke running poke

I hate this class. Longer than most spears and massively more damage. It’s so over kill and doesn’t serve a purpose except to win trades against collosals and make two handed spears irrelevant. As if estoc wasn’t long enough? And this class doesn’t deserve the feint attack, twin blades are significantly more deserving. Epee would look so nice if it wasn’t taller than the player.

1.08 hit these too hard and left dual spear and dual greatspear unchanged

rip true combos, at least its still a really good estus punish and chasedown weapon

thrust counter shouldnt exist in this game. All thrusting weapons are already longer, quicker, have better moveset and do more dps than anything else but hey, lets make them randomly boost their attacks from 400 dmg to 1,5k dmg
- Anonymous
Gold parry is decent at countering the running R2 spam, if your opponent doesn't live on the moon that is
- Anonymous
Its a shame that these are so disproportionately OP in pvp because they feel awesome to use
- Anonymous
I find it funny how despite these being heavier and cumbersome than regular thrusting swords, their moveset looks far more elegant and skilled than the latter. I'm glad though, because we finally have a thrusting weapon class that doesn't feel boring as f*ck to use.
- Anonymous
Could someone add to the wiki that these weapons have Feints, similar to regular thrusting swords and curved swords, this seems like pretty important information and I'm surprised it's not here already.

I hate these things and poke weapons in general, atleast in PVP. There's no downsides to using them.

Went from sword of night and flame, to rivers of blood, then greatsword main, but i think I'm going to give these underrated gems a try

I genuinely feel disgusting using this on pvp, I'm gonna continue doing ng with his since I love the moveset but I'll use something else on pvp. Sorry for those i've slaughtered.

these things are STILL the MOST OPRESSIVE weapons in the game! thank you 1.07 for making these even harder to tank!!!

Every single infusable heavy thrusting sword has a different heavy attack. The ‘default’ HTS heavy is used by both of the somber heavy thrusting swords, as well as Queelign’s greatsword, which is infusable with a split-faith scaling and fire damage when uninfused. The other three infusable HTSs have purely physical scalings and damage when uninfused. Therefore, the default HTS heavy attack is the one with the least build accessibility.
