Using this skill after having killed/damaged stuff will heal you, for at least like a third of your hp. I'm not sure if kills give more healing than damage dealt. It also seems that the kills/damage has to be done by the butchering knife itself, not an offhand weapon. Overall actually a pretty good skill, and is good for using, for example, in the middle of a legacy dungeon instead of a flask. Also can be handy in boss fights, while also buffing your weapon. It does seem that the healing grows exponentially, with lots of kills/damage having to be done before getting much healing, but any more after contributing a more noticable amount of healing. Would be nice if any dataminers could look at it to see what exactly is happening.

I think the skill also heals you when you use it based on how many hits you had with it before using the skill. I'm not entirely sure if its based on hits or how long you have had it equipped, but the initial healing is definitely based on something. I went through a gaol in the DLC and used the skill at the end, and got more than a third of my HP back. I have over 3,000 HP.
My theory so far is that the healing is based on the amount of hits you landed before using the skill. I wonder if it has something to do with having blood on your blade...

Did the 6% AR buff really need to be lowered in PvP? It wouldn't reach the damage of other greataxes even if it was 10%

Didn't we have sharpening stones in DS3? That weapon art is triggering my nostalgia.

Underrated tbh. Great boss killing weapon if you don't wanna use OP bleed/frost mechanics

It seems to heal a random amount when you sharpen, making it great in a pinch

The thrill of sharpening in the middle of battle. We Monster Hunter now, boys!
"This may be a nod to the sharpness mechanic from monster hunter" me when sharpening is a reference to monster hunter, a series that invented sharpening and was not observed anywhere else until then
