Elden Ring Horn Bow Notes & Tips
- Weapon Skill: Mighty Shot
- This weapon can be infused with Ashes of War
- Horn Bow can be upgraded by using Smithing Stones
- Does not give a damage boost to Dwelling Arrows, but rather deals more magic damage and less physical damage that other bows shooting Dwelling Arrows due to its unique bow damage distribution. Since target physical and magic defenses are applied to physical and magic damage separately, this results in a perceived damage bonus.
- Patch 1.03 added minor INT scaling.
- Sell Value:
100
- This Weapon can be buffed considerably with anything that boosts magical damage with bare minimum Int required. Magic-Shrouding Cracked Tear, Terra Magica, and Magic Scorpion Charm all raise the damage of this considerably. Using Frost and Dwelling Arrows, you'll see some really high Rain of Arrow numbers. 2k+ damage on fully aware Stormveil Troll per cast with 20 Int bare min.
- NOTE: As of Patch 1.09, the scaling values of this weapon were changed. Please refer to the Upgrades Table of this weapon below.

This bow is super good. Cast Terra Magica and just camp in it and use either this bow or the Full Moon Crossbow (which, despite its description, has a special interaction with magic bolts rather than holy bolts. My guess is that it was a mistake) to deal some substantial damage at range.

This, dwelling arrows, magic buffs, concealing veil, and enchanted shot. Become the jumpscare archer.

Looks very close to genichiro's bow if you ignore the extra horns, put this on your back to complete the cosplay

Do crafted magicbone arrows get the same damage bonus as the dwelling arrows?
Also, how is the damage from rain of arrows shot from this bow calculated?
The thumbnail for it in the AoW inventory menu is the same purple as the thumbnails for gravitas and waves of darkness and both have the magic affinity. I know you can't infuse a bow, and the description is clear it doesn't grant any affinity, but does the cluster from casting Rain of Arrows get any kind of bonus from the horn bow, or only if they are the dwelling arrows?

I'm using this with 'enchanted shot' AoW right now but I've swapped a lost ash of war for a second 'rain of arrows' if I want to switch. But 'enchanted shot' makes everything less frustrating and time expensive once an enemy I can't kill with the first arrow starts doing that walking back and forth s**t. I'm comfortable with manual aim and most enemies can be distracted out of the left to right walking by landing an arrow behind them then hitting them in the head again when they turn to look for what it was, but its still a pain in my arse it does still waste arrows and it does still take longer to kill something.
The part I don't understand in the notes and tips for this bow is where it says the pulley bow has more choice of arrows. I use the pulley bow and this one but I haven't noticed being locked out of choosing whichever arrow type I want to use for this bow can anyone clarify please?
Also, can anyone say if rain of arrows on this gets any added damage from the horn bow doing some magic damage, or does that exclusively apply to the dwelling arrows which I assume would still get the bow's damage bonus when shot from rain of arrows?

i feel like this should be a somber weapon with an upgraded version of enchanted shot on it, for maximum trolling of course. you could give the folks in pvp ptsd from their first trip to siofra

hornbow + arrow talisman's + shard of alex + rogier drip + enchanted shot ash + dwelling arrows = fun!

the part about not boosting the damage of magic arrows is wrong, yes it doesn't work with the craftable magic arrows, but using Dwelling Arrows with this does give a 5.5% boost to AR, which makes sense since those arrows say "Wielded by the master hunters of the ancestral followers." in the description which matches with the bow description "Wielded by the master hunters of the ancestral followers."

This is my favorite overall bow in the game. Although the Black Bow fires faster like a Shortbow, this one has significantly higher AR when quality built and can be infused with your choice of Ash of War. This works particularly well with Rain of Arrows, allowing both significant damage or status buildup on most enemies.
At 55/55 Str/Dex quality scaling, the AR difference between this and the Pulley Bow is less than 5. However, Pulley Bow does less damage with Mighty Shot compared to Rain of Arrows on larger enemies. Pulley Bow has more choices of arrows for base damage which can help its overall damage verse enemies weak to a certain elemental type. This one on the other hand really relies on magic arrows for optimum damage.
This bow has its AR split between magic and physical, so anything with higher percent magic reduction will makes this a bit less useful. Don't see flat resists on enemy pages and with testing in-game, unlike other souls titles. So % feels like the only real factor when it comes to split scaling. But don't quote me on this.
Final note: This can be buffed considerably with anything that boosts magical damage with bare minimum Int required. The EZ frost proc with one Rain of Arrows allows for some insane follow up damage with Dwelling.

Even with the intelligence scaling the Pulley Bow outperforms it.
Well it depends on your build, but me having 99 strength and dexterity and 60 intelligence the Pulley Bow outperforms it in damage (even with magic arrows) and I doubt that raising the intelligence to 99 will change the result.
I do not understand why. I guess it will be because of the intelligence scaling in E.
And another issue is that none of the elemental damage arrows seem to do any additional damage, compared to the normal arrow.
It is better to use the Horn Bow and you will get more damage in both physical and elemental.

for clarification, as i was confused while trying to find every weapon in the game and reading this, there are 2 places called Hallowhorn Grounds, one for each ancestor spirit boss fight. you want to follow the directions at the first ancestor spirit fight across from Siofra River Bank site of grace.

Looks kinda similar to Genichiro's bow which is cool, unfortunately it doesn't have the shortbow moveset so it's pretty bad for pvp.
The intelligence scaling on this is negligible and is a trap. I thought there was some hidden scaling with intelligence when used with Dwelling/Magicbone Arrows, but apparently not. If you're planning to use this bow standalone, just level intelligence to 14, put points int str and dex until armament power doesn't raise by 1 per 1, then put the rest of your points into vigor, mind (if focusing on skill damage), and endurance. Outside of this, the Black Bow remains the most superior "lightbow"/bow.

The "true potential" comment on the item description really fakes out your expectations on this thing, especially after getting sniped by all the spirit archers in siofria

Best Longbow in the Game i'd say... Want a Tip ? ( Upgrade this badboy up with Ashe of War Mighty Shot , prefer +24 or +25 if possible and whatever upgrades onwards ). However the Catch here is the new added E Intelligence Scaling... Sure yeah its E scaling , but remember to use Magic Arrows. ( Dwelling Arrows with this Bow is Absolutely insanely strong when fully charging Mighty Shot ). It infact damages more than my Swift Glintstone Shard and as powerful as a Pebble cast which isn't that bad and insanely good ( I'm at 80 INT with a Horn Bow +24 with Mighty Shot ). I highly suggest Farming Runes and purchasing Dwelling Arrows which are much stronger than Bone Magic Arrows... The Merchant is located in Moghwyn's dungeon just before Moghwyn's elevator and Grace site inside the Cave path beware tho there are some tough spawn Noble Sanguins in that area.

I think they legit forgot to add scaling to bows on this game as they go up on level. Most other weapons do. Go figure that bows use to be viable if a bit "odd" for a main weapon in other souls games, but in the game where it makes the most sense to be an archer they nerf them into the ground/totally forgot to give them proper stats and scaling. Magic/Divine composite bow w/ moonlight arrow was a beast in DS1, was figuring this could be similar but it can't me made magic and the scaling never improves. Not sure if it's intended do you can't be a "mage" using magic arrows and saving FP on mobs.

has E scaling at +25 now still kinda weak though on an int build

I haven't maxed this, but since 1.03 at +14 this still has an E scaling.

After the update it now has int scaling. Haven't leveled it but it has a scaling of e at base.

Possibly it was changed in the latest patch. But the Horn Bow now has E scaling of INT at +24 and +25

This item dropped for me in Leyndell from one of the crossbow / rapier enemies with the triple fire arrow ability that can be found hanging out next to the perfumers. Not sure why a bow drops from a crossbow enemy but I'm 100% certain this was the enemy it dropped from. In my run through I estimate I killed this enemy about 10 times before dropping. (160 discovery)

I've tested the longbow and hornbow without any enhancements vs sheep. I thought that the hornbow, being 65 phys dmg and 30 magic dmg would outperform the longbow's 80 phys dmg. But, I see the opposite. I hit sheep for 139 dmg with the longbow and 120 with the hornbow. Using fire arrows gives a similar result. Using the 160 rune per arrow magic arrows sold in the underground area however, i do 159 with the longbow but 182 with the hornbow.
Either it's because the 30 magic dmg ONLY applies when you use magic arrows, or something is bugged when you use regular ones.
Or I'm missing something?

I don' t know how to add, the attaque power but
+1 phy 68 mag 31
+2 phy 72 mag 33
+3 phy 76 mag 35
That all for the moment

It's not dropped by ancestral enemy... Been farming for 3 hours & get 99 arrow instead.

If you're playing without the day one patch, it seems that some items have different placement.. has happened to me three times now.. not sure where the weapon is, but when/if I find it, I will reply back.. strange decision for FromSoft..

when used with the dwelling arrow it turns into the arrows you see used by the ancestral spirit archers when used with the "Mighty Shot" weapon art. I don't know how much more damage it does but its a huge increase

how come this doesnt scale with INT while serpent bow scales with arcane, and erdtree bow scales with faith?
