Lightseeker Hyetta is an NPC in Elden Ring. Hyetta is mysterious blind woman who roams the Lands Between, following the guidance of the distant light within upon eating Shabriri Grapes. She seeks to become a Finger Maiden upon reaching this “distant light.”

Hello? Is someone there? My name is Hyetta, and I'm journeying in search of the distant light.

Hyetta Location in Elden Ring

Hyetta can be found in various locations as you progress her questline:

  1. Found near the Lake-Facing Cliffs site of grace, in Liurnia of the Lakes. [Map link] (Requires receiving Irina's Letter from Irina in the Weeping Peninsula.)
  2. Found on the western side of the Purified Ruins, also in Liurnia of the Lakes. [Map link]
  3. Found to the north of the the Gate Town Bridge site of grace, in Liurnia. [Map link]
  4. Found in Bellum Church, northeastern Liurnia of the Lakes. [Map link]
  5. Found at Frenzied Flame Proscription, far below Leyndell, Royal Capital. [Map link]

  • This NPC moves as you progress her questline.
  • This NPC can be fought.
  • If defeated, drops: three Frenzyflame Stone (at location #3).
  • Killing Irina will prevent Hyetta from spawning.

Hyetta Questline: How to complete Hyetta's Quest

  • After talking with Irina in Weeping Peninsula, Hyetta appears next to the Lake-Facing Cliffs site of grace in Liurnia. Hyetta says she roams the Lands Between in search of the distant light, drawn to her destiny by a guiding shine she feels in the back of her eyes when eating Shabriri Grapes. She will ask for one, and if you choose to give her one, she will reward you with the As You Wish gesture.
    • Note: Simply talking to Irina and doing nothing in Castle Morne does not spawn Hyetta. I haven't accepted Irina's letter yet, nor have I have done anything other than retrieving the first grace in Castle Morne, and Hyetta hasn't spawned yet (Q91).
  • Hyetta can next be found a short distance west of the Purified Ruins in Liurnia (outside of the west ruined building, looking out over the lake). She asks for another Shabriri Grape, but does not offer a reward at this time. (NOTE: If she does not appear here, stop by Irina's dead body first. Doing this got her to spawn for me).
  • Hyetta will now be north of the Gate Town Bridge, Liurnia of the Lakes. She will ask for another Shabriri Grape, and will ask what they really are. Choose to tell her what they are (the quest cannot progress until you tell her). After reloading the area, she will have more dialogue. Exhausting her dialogue here is mandatory, as she will not change locations otherwise.
  • Hyetta then moves to Bellum Church in Liurnia of the Lakes. She will ask you for a Fingerprint Grape, which is found as a drop from Festering Fingerprint Vyke near the Church of Inhibition. Once given to her, she will thank you and leave.
  • Hyetta can be finally found at Frenzied Flame Proscription, underneath Leyndell, Royal Capital. Upon accepting the Three Fingers' flame, return to Hyetta and talk to her once more. Exhaust her dialogue, and the Frenzied Flame Seal and five Frenzyflame Stones appear on the ground, completing her questline.

Dialogue in Elden Ring: Hyetta

Introduction

  • "Hello? Is someone there? My name is Hyetta, and I'm journeying in search of the distant light. If I might be so bold as to ask... would you donate any Shabriri grapes in your possession to me? My eyesight has been weak since birth, you see. I can't tell which way I'm supposed to go next. But when I eat one of those grapes, I can feel a distant light in the back of my eyes. It will lead me, to my true duty, as a Finger Maiden".
  • (If offered a Shabriri Grape)
"Oh, many thanks to you. Now I can feel the distant light once more. You are most kind, indeed. May the blessing of the Fingers be upon you".

After Given a Shabriri Grape at the Purified Ruins

  • You're not like the others who give me grapes, are you...They rest their trembling hands upon me. Howling wordlessly, they gently stroke my eyes. Their frail fingers, emaciated...Yet still, they give me the grapes. But you...seem somehow...firmer. You are most kind, indeed. May the blessings of the Fingers be upon you.

After Given a Shabriri Grape at the Gate Town Bridge

  • I wonder, what are Shabiri Grapes? Delectably tender and sweet, yet searing... What sight they must behold. "

After telling her the grapes are actually human eyes

  • N-no... that's not possible. Not all of those people...their own...so those noises I heard were...-
    <brief pause, gags>
Sorry, I'm alright now. I apologize. You only did what I asked. I'll be fine. Think no more of it.
[She begins to hurl as you walk away]

After reloading the same area and talking to her again

  • Ah, is that you over there? I have gleaned something very important indeed, thanks to you. The reason why it was eyes I had to eat. The distant light is far and frail. So faint it can't be seen by the naked eye. But with everyone's eyes together, it appears. Finally, it all makes sense. I am certain now, I will become a finger maiden.

Asking for a Fingerprint Grape at Bellum Church

  • Oh hello, is that you over there? Have you ever heard of fingerprint grapes? They're special grapes which only grow on those who've been clasped by the burnt Fingers. I would truly love to try one.... The distant light seems far closer than before. But I can't sense a thing from the usual grapes anymore... Please, could you donate a fingerprint grape to me? Without one I don't know, I feel like I might go mad.

After giving a Fingerprint Grape at Bellum Church

  • Oh, Oh! A fingerprint grape, tried and true, what a wondrous thing! A fingerprint grape!
    <chewing noises>
Ohh, how sweet, yet, how it burns...
    <wordless joy>
Thank you. I've composed myself again. May the blessings of the Fingers be upon you.
  • Thank you, from the bottom of my heart. I'm sure I'll be a Finger Maiden.

At Frenzied Flame Proscription

  • Ah, so you're here as well, are you? ...I realized as we've talked. I'll be a Maiden. And you... surely, a Lord. Go to the door ahead, after divesting yourself of your possessions. It will surely open, and the Three Fingers will welcome you. May the flame of chaos find purchase within you.

After the Tarnished is marked by the Three Fingers

  • Ahhh, the flame of chaos has nestled within you. Could you please rest your hand upon me? Burn me with the flame, to make me your Maiden...

§After touching Hyetta

Oh, it burns... My eyes, my eyes, they're melting... Aaargh!

Thank... thank you... I have touched them.

The words of the Three Fingers.
As your maiden, allow me to divine them.

"All that there is came from the One Great.
Then came fractures,
and births,
and souls.

But the Greater Will made a mistake.
Torment, despair, affliction...
every sin, every curse.
Every one, born of the mistake.

And so, what was borrowed must be returned.
Melt it all away, with the yellow chaos flame.
Until all is One again."

Those who gave me grapes howled without words.
Saying they wished they were never born.

Become their lord.
Take their torment, despair.
Their affliction.
Every sin, every curse.
And melt it all away. As the Lord of Chaos.

No more fractures...no more birth... (sighs)

Small Talk

  • At the Lake-Facing Cliffs site of grace : "You are most kind, indeed. May the blessing of the Fingers be upon you."

After attacking

  • What on earth? I do not wish to cause anyone harm...
  • (On player kill) Oh, bless the stars. You've chosen to reconsider.

Upon defeat

  • Ahh, the distant light...fades... I'm so sorry, my dears...

Hyetta Notes & Trivia

  • Hyetta can count as the maiden mentioned in the White Mask Varré's questline. While killing a maiden is not necessary, you can kill her to cover the Lord of Blood's Favor in blood.
  • When found at the Frenzied-Flame Proscription, her title is now Finger Maiden Hyetta, showing that she has successfully become a Finger Maiden, albeit one of the Three Fingers'.
  • Irina and Hyetta have the same face and clothing.
  • Her quest can still be completed after using Miquella's Needle or completing an ending.

Luckly i looked this one up before doing it the red note is a godsave since the mali quest is so important to finish before :D

      • Anonymous

Wish there were more notes on how this or Edgar's quest can fail. Ive completed her quest before, went to NG+, beat the game, now cant find her or Edgar.

I forgot if I did anything stupid like killing her, but assuming I didn't, I dont understand why Edgar is gone with no Irina or Hyetta. I have the Frenzied Flame already, but there isnt anything here saying I cant have inherited the flame before Hyetta's quest

A girl walked up to a man doin' a quest
And she said to the man doin' the quest, "Hey!"
          Bumbumbum
          "Got any grapes?"

          • Anonymous

I found her twice and never seen her again... somewhere when exploring Leyndell I thought to myself, that I probably got an item from Vyke not without a reason, but I couldn't be arsed to look for her. She might as well have disappeared by then.

            • Anonymous

Your maiden would sacrifice herself so you could become lord.

My maiden gives me a cool glowy hand if i touch her forehead.

              We are not the same.

              • I'm pretty sure she doesn't exist only in our head as a manifestation of our own madness. Thats why she looks like Irina. (same as in Silent Hill 2 with Mary/Maria) Means we already are under the influence of the 3 fingers when we "meet" her. And I don't think thats the end of it.

                • Anonymous

Seems like you can skip the first encounter with Hyetta if you found Irina dead before defeating the Godrick. I cleared Castle Mourne first, then defeated Godrick and found no grape in his throne room. Then I met Hyetta near Purified Ruins for the first time, gave her the grape I found under the ruins and still obtained the gesture.

Worth pointing out that you don't actually need to do this quest before finishing the game (if you don't want to go through the hassle of getting Miquella's needle in order to stop yourself from getting locked to the frenzy flame ending.)

I didn't talk to Irina once until after I beat Elden Beast and I was still able to do the whole questline and get frenzy seal. Tbh I have no idea why the three fingers even accept us well AFTER the fact that we can't be the Lord Of Chaos.

                    • Anonymous

You ALSO need Irina to stay alive until her scripted death in order for Hyetta to spawn--not just getting her note. I killed Irina, and even after completing her quest by giving her note to Edgar, Hyetta still hasn't spawned in my run. Absolution doesn't help.

don't ask me why I killed Irina shut up

Esoteric female npc casually dropping some of the most important lore about the nature of the Elden ring universe at the bottom of some random tomb most players won’t have gone to or have progressed her questline to even get the dialogue from her. I love Elden Ring. Praise the One Great.

I can't stand how obscure these quests are. It screams of FromSoft being obnoxious simply to play up to their reputation of creating hard games. You shouldn't require a wiki to complete all quests and find the majority of content in a game.

Considering how absurdly difficult it is to get down to the 3 fingers area even WITH sight is basically Miyazaki screaming at you that Hyetta is a demon.

I just discovered if you want to get the frenzy flame seal without going through all the hassle of using miquella's needle to cancel out the frenzy flame ending, you can feed her the shabriri grapes, then avoid talking to her in the tomb until you defeat the elden beast. She'll still drop the frenzy flame after you open the 3 fingers door. I'm not sure if you can put off the irina quest until you defeat elden beast though.

Does anyone know what happens if you cure yourself of the flame and THEN go back to talk to Hyetta outside the Three Fingers Chamber. Will she still be there and ask you to touch her with the flame? Will she still die? Curious if there is another ending to her story.

i kill irina pretty often to bloody the cloth thats given by varre, but you must not talk to her before you get the cloth or goobers will come before you

should be an updated note for other players that you can finish her quest and get the frenzy eyes and all that even after you finished the game

Can confirm you CAN complete her questline after killing elden beast and still receive frenzied flame proscription.

I feel like this whole questline is a glorified gag pertaining to how the Dks3 firekeeper eyes looked like grapes. Well played, Miyazaki.

Both Irina and Yura die and are inhibited by Hyetta and Shabriri, respectively, after you finish the first two questlines. Also the latter are involved with the flame of frenzy. weird detail.

So funny when you told her what these grapes really were, she said she's fine and then when you walked away she started throwing up, really nice detail there

so i think i messed up this quest
i reached the tree fingers and got the mark and i remenbered that in order to get the frenzied flame seal i need to do Hyetta´s quest, so i did
i went all the way back to her body and the did castle morne and finnaly started her quest, everything was going fine until the part where she spawns in in the tree fingers grace, she didnt...i tryed everything i could remenber, reloaded the game, checked every location she was in before but still i cant find her.
Any clues on what to do?

                                                • Anonymous

So i just completed the quest and got the frenzied flame seal after finishing the game with rannis ending, thus annulling the need to get the unalloyed gold needle. The fact that you can complete the quest after you beat the game with your preferred ending might be something to consider adding to the article.

                                                  • Hyetta is Edgar's grief personified. His is a sadness so profound that it enables us, the player, to reset the lands between. With the help of others, whose suffering is substantial enough to remove their own eyes. The Frenzied Flame ending IS the correct ending, but this isn't something to be celebrated. The Greater Will made a mistake and it has resulted in immeasurable suffering.

                                                    • Anonymous

Alright. I've been wanting to write something up about this for awhile, maybe even post a video. This seems the place to do it in short.
I believe that Hyetta is Edgar's grief personified.
Those afflicted with frenzy seem to all have one thing in common, utter despair. The greater will made a mistake and the collective suffering of those trapped in the lands between has reached a fever pitch. It's long been time for a reset.

                                                      • Anonymous

You only need to complete Milicent's questline and she gives you the needle and you can use at any time to remove the Frenzied Flame. You don't need to defeat Placidusax

                                                        • Anonymous

The first place she appeared for me is the second place near petrified ruins. So if you cant find her in the first place, go to the second.

Do not kill irida yourself when you meet her as then hyetta will never show up at lake facing cliffs, irida has to die via her questline for hyetta to spawn

                                                            • Anonymous

Shabriri is encountered puppeteering Yura's corpse, which he openly admits. Given Hyetta's association with the Frenzied Flame, and the implication that Shabriri is an ancient embodiment of chaos itself who has inhabited many bodies to lure many would-be Lords to the Flame, it stands to reason that Hyetta is a similar situation and is using Irina's corpse as a vessel.

Also, I went back to play DS3 after the servers came back up. Irina/Hyetta and the Fire Keeper look a lot alike. I mean a /lot/. And the nihilist ending of DS3 involves you finding eyes that resemble fruit (in that case, blueberries) and giving them to the Fire Keeper. Granted, that's for a world without flame, while Hyetta's ending is for a world very much with flame and little else. But the giving of forbidden fruit, in the form of eyes, to utterly annihilate the perpetual, cyclical status quo of the world is a parallel that can't be ignored.

                                                              • Anonymous

Killing Irina prevents Hyetta from spawning,
Spoilers... even if you got her letter, delivered it, and got the sword to talk about with Edgar. Playing a Frenzy prophet, killed Irina after getting the letter because duh I'm Frenzy, then did the quest up to talking to Edgar after the sword, then killed him too. Had no idea Irina was related at all.
Ironic that playing Frenzy themed run results in her quest dying on the vine like a rotten grape. I think you have to let Edgar find Irina's body to get Hyetta to spawn. Considering later he comes back as a Frenzied I wonder if he didn't pull some Pet Cemetery thing with Irina.

                                                                • Anonymous

Her cloak is more yellow than the normal traveling maiden cloak, probably because she's a maiden of the three fingers instead of the two

                                                                  • Anonymous

Maybe she and Irina have the same condition as D and D? One soul in two bodies, one is only able to awaken and thus encounter the PC once the other one relinquishes control (dies)?

                                                                      • Okay, bear with me on this one. *ahem* So the first thing that caught my attention when I saw Hyetta was her name which reminded me of the star cluster Hyades. This is mentioned in the poem "Cassilda's Song" that appears in Robert Chambers' short story compilation "The King in Yellow". The title refers to an in-world play by the same name which drives anyone who reads it to madness. Besides the play and the enigmatic Yellow King of whom little is spoken in the stories, there is also the Yellow Sign that, like so many other things Chambers introduces, is only spoken of in short. The first season of the HBO miniseries "True Detective" prominently features the King in Yellow and presents the Yellow Sign as a swirling symbol, not too unlike a fingerprint. And in both the original stories and True Detective, the Yellow Sign is used to mark victims. How big a coincidence would it be for all of this to only be linked unintentionally? With the Frenzied Flame, we have yellow-orange flame, a god of madness, and a spiral symbol marked upon the body. "Hyetta" is a species of butterfly, Hypophytala hyetta, and while it may seem like a stretch to connect the two names, the root of "Hyetta" is in fact "Hyades", Greek for "Rain bringers". I would not put it past Miyazaki to both reference TKIY and continue the butterfly motif.

                                                                        • Anonymous

Where is she in Bellum Church? I've looked all over for her. I gave her all shabriri grapes, but i can't find her.

                                                                          • I finished the game with the "Lord of the Frenzied Flame ending".
Never did one part of Hyetta's questline.
Then I realized I wanted to have the "Frenzied Flame seal".
Went back and did her whole questline.

                                                                            So that's possible too.

                                                                            • Anonymous

Make your way to Frenzied Flame Proscription, unlock the site of grace, and then fast travel out of there without opening the door. Beat the game, decline NG+, then fast travel back, and complete the quest.

                                                                              • Anonymous

                                                                                • Anonymous

                                                                                  • Anonymous

Unless this is a glitch, I want it brought to attention that if you do irinas quest line up to the point of meeting her father, then kill the warrior, then go straight to Godrick, you can meet Hyetta after… and go back to WP to find Irina’s body still there.

                                                                                    • Anonymous

                                                                                      • Anonymous

                                                                                        • Anonymous

                                                                                          • Anonymous

                                                                                            • Anonymous

Interestingly if you kill her, she drops 3 frenzyflame stones even before you give her any grapes, and thus before she even has any association with the Frenzied Flame bar the reference to Shabriri

She’s definitely Irina revived by the Frenzied Flame somehow. Same voice actor, same model, hell one of the grapes you get is from irina’s dad.

                                                                                                • Anonymous

Yes Irina's body remains, but the fact that the quests are connected at all hints that there is something interesting going on. Given that puppeteering/remote control is such a dominant theme in the game, it'd be weirder if it were merely a coincidence or something.

A couple things I find interesting are the weird description of the "others" who give her grapes: "They rest their trembling hands upon me. Howling wordlessly, they gently stroke my eyes. Their frail fingers, emaciated"

and the fact that she's losing her memory/mind halfway through the quest line

                                                                                                  • Anonymous

                                                                                                    • Anonymous

                                                                                                      • Anonymous

                                                                                                        • Anonymous
