Latches onto foes to spread madness
Requires |
Inescapable Frenzy is an Incantation in Elden Ring. Inescapable Frenzy spell attaches to an enemy. Other enemies that are close will get madness buildup. Updated to Patch 1.08.
Incantation originating from the maddening Three Fingers.
Causes the yellow flame of frenzy to blaze from the caster's eyes.
The caster then latches onto foes, spreading the madness.
This incantation also causes buildup of madness in the caster, and
is only effective against Tarnished.
To gaze into one another's eyes is truly the most intimate form of
human contact.
Where to find Inescapable Frenzy
Where to find Inescapable Frenzy:
- After making your way past Subterranean Shunning-Grounds and defeating Mohg, The Omen, attack the altar at the front of the boss room. It should lower revealing a new area. Continue through here until you are forced to platform downwards using stone coffins as platforms. Near the bottom you will see a corpse that has Inescapable Frenzy on it. [Map Link]

Elden Ring Inescapable Frenzy Guide
- Frenzied Flame Incantation
- Stamina Cost: 31
- Deals fire damage and causes madness buildup in the caster and the target. This incantation is boosted by effects and items that increase incantation damage (Faithful's Canvas Talisman and Flock's Canvas Talisman), and is also boosted by effects and items that increase fire damage (Fire Scorpion Charm, Flame Shrouded Cracked Tear, etc.).
- This incantation only scales with faith, so the spell buff is only affected by faith.
- Can only be used on Tarnished, and therefore must be used on other players, NPC invaders, or named human enemies.
- As of V1.09, the spell effectiveness in damage and angle of attack in PVP has increased. Additional 25% in damage and increased grab angle from 60° to 80°)
- This spell can be used on the Flame Guardians in the Guardian's Garrison fort, allowing players to test damage with it before going online.
- Note: Significantly buffed in Patch 1.07 - FP cost reduced from 32 to 22 (fixed in patch 1.07.1), recovery time has been shortened. In addition, grapple range has been increased.
- Note: As of Patch 1.08 a bug where the attack power of the right hand weapon was sometimes applied when casting the Inescapable Frenzy Incantation with a two-handed Sacred Seal in the left hand has been fixed.
- Note: As of Patch 1.09, the Inescapable Frenzy incantation power and grab angle have been increased in PVP only. (Power increased by 25% and angle increased from 60° to 80°)

Looking at human's eyes is the most intimate act?
I know japanese love manga and anime has such a thing...
But looking deeply into my eyes won't make me shy or mad.
All what will happen is that I will wink at you, and you will nose bleed.
So yes, don't look at me if you don't want to take Bleed damage.

Thought I'd give this a try today, and the damage portion of the spell doesn't work when you're casting using Staff of the Great Beyond. You can still grab, and the frenzied flame visual effects are still appearing too, but no damage if you're using that staff to cast with.

I did some test with dragon communion seal (415 scal) vs frenzy seal (335)
With Dragon i deal 904 dmg on vyke
With frenzy i deal 944
If i powerstance 2 frenzy seals still deals 944
If i equip dragon n frenzy and use dragon still deals 904
For some wierd reason it doesnt get the bonus either way, only if frenzy its the main hand
Idk if this works for anyone :)

I run a frenzy-themed build right now. So did this furled finger apparently, who busted out unendurable frenzy at Stormveil Castle. But I have the endure ash. Face-tanking frenzy spray, I latch onto this guy's face and spray him right back. He already built up his own meter so I get an instant proc and that was enough to finish the job. GG EZ

Tested chaining sleep or madness into Inescapable Frenzy with the Flame Guardian of Guardians' Garrison fort (works at least partially like a player character), it doesn't work, the grab does little damage, doesn't initiate the animation, and makes the enemy instantly recover from recovery frames. I incompletely tested it on PvP too and experienced the same phenomenon. Screw you Flame Guardian and Guardians' Garrison, you are a pain to test attacks on.
- Anonymous
We need more aow grab attacks for the player; imagine one like the Malenia sword-stab, that would be sick on a colossal, or an heavy thrusting sword.
- Anonymous
This plus dual frenzy seals OHKOs Gideon even on ng+11. It’s fine that this spell only works on tarnished enemies, because it one shots them.
- Anonymous
You can't land this on a player sleeping, at least not if the sleep was caused by the st trina sword.
- Anonymous
Now why did they go about making another flame-based command grab (the other being Sacred Flame in DS3) and have it not work on enemies? At least could have worked on humanoids. Feels like a regression, seeing as Sacred Flame actually worked on humanoid enemies and did good damage.

I did some testing to investigate the damage and madness build-up of this spell using combinations of Frenzied Flame Seal, Dragon Communion Seal, and Finger Seal (because the first two seem like they could increase the effectiveness, and the last one functions as a standard). The testing was made in App Version 1.10.1, Calibrations Version 1.10. Disclaimer, the formatting might be ugly, I remember this site didn't know how to program text boxes.
I used the Silver Tear Mask (+8 Arcane), the Two Fingers Heirloom (+5 Faith), and Marika's Soreseal (+5 Faith, +5 Intelligence, +5 Mind, + Arcane). In total, 18 Strength, 24 Dexterity, 19 Intelligence, 31 Faith, 23 Arcane. Frenzied Flame Seal had 176 Incant Scaling, Dragon Communion Seal had 184, Finger Seal had 160. I tested this against the Flame Guardians, who afaik may or may not be equivalent to a PvP player.
For the sake of simplicity, I will call the Frenzied Flame Seal "yellow", Dragon Communion Seal "red", Finger Seal "finger". "main hand" will be the left hand which I used to cast the spell, and "off" will be the right hand.
835 damage, 2 yellows, 1 madness proc on 3rd damage tick.
835 damage, main yellow off red, 1 madness proc on 3rd damage tick.
835 damage, main yellow off finger, 1 madness proc (didn't check when).
779 damage, 2 reds, 1 madness proc on 5th damage tick.
779 damage, main red off yellow, 1 madness proc on 5th damage tick.
779 damage, main red off finger, 1 madness proc (didn't check when).
747 damage, 2 finger, 1 madness proc on 5th damage tick.
747 damage, main finger off yellow, 1 madness proc (didn't check when).
747 damage, main finger off red, 1 madness proc (didn't check when).
I made one more test, I took off Marika's Soreseal, the frenzy seal now has 160 Incant Scaling (same as the finger seal from previous tests), and with 2 frenzy seals, this spell deals 803 damage.
Conclusions: Casting this spell with the frenzy seal, it visibly builds more madness, but having one on the off-hand or having two doesn't make a difference. I don't know if you can proc madness twice with the same spell, but I've read other people say madness can build up after proccing once, so supposedly you should be able to proc it multiple times per spell. I find it weird that the dragon seal (C Faith scaling) deals more damage than the finger seal (A Faith scaling) because I heard that this spell only scales with Faith. Maybe that means that Faith AND Arcane scaling can be used in the damage formula? I also find the damage of the frenzy seal weird, it's more damage than the dragon seal but has less Incant Scaling, and at the same Incant Scaling as the finger seal it still deals more damage. Maybe that means the frenzy seal's damage boost to frenzy spells properly applies? More testing could reveal that madness builds up in a more complex way (or not, maybe it's as simple as applying the madness build-up inherent to the frenzy seal you're casting with). Someone please update this page and the frenzy seal page with this info, I'm tired and I already tested for a long while.

>This incantation only scales with faith, so the spell buff is only affected by faith.
I hate that I can't tell if this is an unique property of the spell or if somebody misunderstood the dmg calculation of spells again and made it everybody's problem.

This spell psychologically breaks people. I think it has a stronger psychological effect than parrying. They freak the f out after getting grabbed. My experience is that it buys you enough time to flask or reposition, and if you're aggressive they'll never mentally recover before the fight is over. Mind games, people, mind games.

This needs some hype armor because from my experience the only way you have a chance at landing this is by using endure and trading a hit, thing is by the time you get endure off and start to cast this your opponent's animation is already done and they are rolling away.

Hopefully this comment is better formatted than the reply I made. For some reason you can't do line breaks when replying.
Another TL;DR: Like I said before, damage increases from your weapon upgrade. Frenzied Flame Seal can trigger madness more times against your opponent compared to other seals for more damage. Frenzied Flame Seal also deals more damage with higher Intelligence level.
Responding to the commenter claiming my calculations are wrong:
In PVE: Same stats as previously stated in the original comment and +5 from Godrick's Rune / In PVP: same stats as previously stated in the original comment. First incant scaling and damage numbers are from PVE against Flame Guardians, second PVP.
Frenzied Flame Seal +9: 248/230 incant scaling: 1219/822 damage (no talismans)
Frenzied Flame Seal +9: 250/236 incant scaling: 1219/822 damage (+5 faith talisman)
Frenzied Flame Seal +9: 255/232 incant scaling: 1283/846 damage (+5 intelligence talisman)
Frenzied Flame Seal +9: 270/250 incant scaling: 1283/846 damage (Marika's Soreseal, Radagon's Soreseal & +5 faith talismans)
Frenzied Flame Seal +9: 276/255 incant scaling: 1371/910 damage (Marika's Soreseal, Radagon's Soreseal & +5 intelligence talismans)
Frenzied Flame Seal +9: 286/265 incant scaling: 1387/926 damage (Twinsage Glintstone Crown, Marika's Soreseal, Radagon's Soreseal & +5 intelligence talismans)
Frenzied Flame Seal +9: 293/277 incant scaling: 1387/926 damage (Twinsage Glintstone Crown, Marika's Soreseal, Radagon's Soreseal, +5 intelligence talisman & Intelligence-knot Crystal Tear)
^ Gains some damage increase from having higher Intelligence. Doesn't increase damage with higher Strength, Dexterity or Faith (damage was 1219/822 with only raising these three stats up).
Without Godrick's Rune active the highest damage with the last two setups were 1299 in PVE for some reason. With Godrick's Rune & Grafted Blade buff it was 1475 for both.
Also only using Intelligence-knot Crystal Tear in PVE compared to having Marika's Soreseal & +5 intelligence talisman equipped the damage was 1299 for odd reason.
Erdtree Seal +9: 222/207 incant scaling: 1195/814 damage (no talismans)
^ Damage was the same no matter what stat-boosting items I used.
Golden Order Seal +9, 266/236 incant scaling: 1163/742 (Intelligence-knot Crystal Tear to be able to use the seal in both PVE and PVP)
^ Damage was the same no matter what stat-boosting items I used.
Dragon Communion Seal +9: 306/288 incant scaling: 1171/798 damage (no talismans)
^ Damage was the same no matter what stat-boosting items I used.
Finger Seal +23: 233/218 incant scaling: 1147/798 damage (no talismans)
Giant's Seal +24: 227/212 incant scaling: 1179/830 damage (no talismans)
^ Damage were the same for both seals no matter what stat-boosting items I used.
Note: Finger Seal +23 also has blue S Faith attribute scaling when hovering over the seal while having Giant's Seal +24 (also having S Faith attribute scaling) equipped meaning Finger Seal has higher Faith attribute scaling compared to Giant's Seal.
^ This means even if the incant scaling and/or attribute scaling is higher, you still deal more damage with a higher upgraded seal. Why a seal that scales better with Faith and has higher incant scaling would otherwise deal less damage if it only scales off of Faith scaling?
Testing damage with Inescapable Frenzy sometimes dealt a little bit less damage, like you get one tick of hit less for whatever reason.
I was testing damage where it dealt around 50 damage less with the same setup sometimes. Doesn't matter if you wait 5 seconds or a full minute and also doesn't matter what seal you are using.
Frenzied Flame Seal also gives more madness buildup where it can probably trigger madness effect one (or more) extra time compared to other seals meaning it can deal more damage that way to people who have less focus status. When I was testing this against my opponent who had 261 / 101 focus stats, according to them Frenzied Flame Seal dealt around 150% status buildup while other seals dealt a little over 100%.
For reference, triggering madness deals damage equal to 100+15% of the opponent's max HP.

TL;DR: Using Frenzied Flame Seal does NOT deal 40% more damage in PvP compared to other seals with the same incant scaling unlike someone stating so in the comments below.
The comment made in late July 2023 (right after the 1.10 patch) is wrong about the extra 40% damage in PvP from Frenzied Flame Seal using this incantation.
I was testing this today and it seems like the comment from early December 2022 about the 1.08 patch seems correct with how the damage works with this incantation: only your seal level and buffs like Flame-Shrouding Cracked Tear or Flame, Grant me Strength for example increases the damage.
When I was testing Inescapable Frenzy to another player, I saw only around 30 damage difference with four different seals.
Stats and incant scaling for seals:
STR 50 / DEX 15 / INT 9 / FTH 41 / ARC 35
Dragon Communion Seal +9: 288 incant scaling
Frenzied Flame Seal +9: 230 incant scaling
Erdtree Seal +9: 207 incant scaling
Godslayer's Seal +24: 224 incant scaling
Damage with Inescapable Frenzy against another player:
Dragon Communin Seal +9: 806 damage
Frenzied Flame Seal +9: 830 damage
Erdtree Seal +9: 822 damage
Godslayer's Seal: 838 damage
Godslayer's Seal and Frenzied Flame Seal share almost the same incant scaling with Godslayer having slightly less incant scaling but dealing a little bit more damage.
All tests were done by casting the incantation once without having any talismans or other buffs applied, every cast was done with being summoned -> casting the incantation on the host -> leaving the world -> repeat. Tests were also done when it wasn't raining as that lowers fire damage.
In fact at this moment the page about Frenzied Flame Seal specifically mentions Inescapable Frenzy does not receive a buff from that Seal because of the incantation's unusual damage calculation. The person who made the July 2023 comment on that page is saying this information is incorrect, stating on Frenzied Flame Seal page they had similar incant scaling: 117 incant scaling with Frenzied and 119 incant scaling with Clawmark seal and then stating Frenzied deals 40% more damage in PvP failing to mention the upgrade levels (as well as player stats) for these seals.
So it does not seem to calculate damage by incant scaling or if it does, it's very minimal change and Frenzied Flame Seal definitely does not increase damage by 40% when using Inescapable Frenzy in PvP.

Just a thing I found out, when an invader uses their phantom finger to teleport near you, it's a window of time where landing inescapable frenzy is very easy. There's nothing they can do about it if you time it right. Not exactly game-changing but it's worth keeping in mind.

This is mostly for humiliation PVP kills. Kind of like taking out the knife in CS.
From my experience, it won't always insta-kill, but my god does it give me a huge dopamine rush when I hit one of these, especially in PVP.

They could’ve made this spell usable on enemies when you have the change to riposte them. Just latching in a Dragon’s side of the face and burn one eye.

I did some tests with this and described them in the Frenzied Flame Seal comments, but to summarize: use this spell with the Frenzied Flame Seal in PvP, It seems to get about 40% stronger if you do. You won't see it in tests versus NPCs.

Drop from the beams until you get to the passive merchant playing the sad song. Drop down to the coffin lid on his right. It's small jumps and drops to nearby lids from there. There are many other routes (you will see notes and bloodstains marking them) but they require much trickier jumps.

Seriously. How does this spell actually work? I had a max level flame art Misericorde in my right hand, and the damage was near non-existent. Almost as if this line is a total BS: "damage is completely reliant on the critical damage of the weapon held in the caster's right hand"
For the sake of context I was using a non-upgraded frenzy skill and was testing against the Vyke gaol boss. Switching to the fully upgraded Erdtree seal the damage went up to 1600, but this did not change with the right hand weapon. Is this a bug or just wrong/outdated info?

I'm the salty comment below, but after some more duels it's really not all that bad. The recovery buff is much bigger than I gave credit for. Not immediately losing for deciding to throw this out is such a relief now, and if you're really in someones head it's not out of the question to snag 'em. Still avoidable by people paying attention, but it's at least a tool in the kit now, as opposed to a bad joke.
Wish it worked on soldiers and knights and other foes of "human build"
