Latches onto foes to spread madness
![]() |
Inescapable Frenzy is an Incantation in Elden Ring. Inescapable Frenzy spell attaches to an enemy. Other enemies that are close will get madness buildup. Updated to Patch 1.08.
Incantation originating from the maddening Three Fingers.
Causes the yellow flame of frenzy to blaze from the caster's eyes.
The caster then latches onto foes, spreading the madness.
This incantation also causes buildup of madness in the caster, and
is only effective against Tarnished.
To gaze into one another's eyes is truly the most intimate form of
human contact.
Where to find Inescapable Frenzy
Where to find Inescapable Frenzy:
- After making your way past Subterranean Shunning-Grounds and defeating Mohg, The Omen, attack the altar at the front of the boss room. It should lower revealing a new area. Continue through here until you are forced to platform downwards using stone coffins as platforms. Near the bottom you will see a corpse that has Inescapable Frenzy on it. [Map Link]

Elden Ring Inescapable Frenzy Guide
- Frenzied Flame Incantation
- Stamina Cost: 31
- Deals standard physical damage
- Can only be used on Tarnished, and therefore must be used on other players, NPC invaders, or named human enemies.
- Strangely, the damage of this spell seems completely unrelated to the Incant Scaling of the seal used to cast it. Instead, damage is completely reliant on the critical damage of the weapon held in the caster's right hand.
- Damage of the spell is calculated by the damage of the first hit* of the held weapon's backstab/riposte.
- *Weapons with a two-part riposte, such as hammers, calculate their damage using the first, far less damaging, hit of the string.
- This also means that weapons which cannot riposte, such as whips, shields, staffs, and bows, deal no damage whatsoever.
- Strangely, seals seem to use fist weapon damage calculation, and even more strangely, they cause the spell to deal Madness buildup.
- Additionally, the damage ticks from this spell appear to apply the special effects of the right-hand weapon, allowing users to cause Bleed, Poison, and even Sleep just by holding weapons that cause buildup.
- Only the weapon in the right hand is used for this calculation. Holding the seal used to cast in the right hand and a weapon in the left will use the seal's critical damage.
- Inescapable Frenzy also seems completely unaffected by spell-related buffs such as the Flock's Canvas Talisman or the bonus from the Frenzied Flame Seal.
- Inescapable Frenzy deals no Madness buildup whatsoever unless any seal or Vyke's War Spear is held in the right hand.
- Inescapable Frenzy's damage calculation is almost certainly a bug, and all information written here was tested in ver. 1.03.3.
- UPDATE Tested on v1.06
Inescapable Frienzy now seems to be completely independent of all factors other than: Specifically the upgrade level (not Incant Scaling) of the seal being used to cast the incantation, equipable items that directly and unconditionally buff damage output (Ritual Sword Talisman, both Canvas Talismans, and Fire Scorpion Charm were used successfully), as well as consumable items like the Flame-Shrouding Cracked Tear. Is no longer dependent on the weapon held in hand. - As of v1.06, the spell seems to apply Madness buildup regardless of weapon and seal.
- Damage of the spell is calculated by the damage of the first hit* of the held weapon's backstab/riposte.
- This spell can be used on the Flame Guardians in the Guardian's Garrison fort, allowing players to test damage with it before going online.
- Note: Significantly buffed in Patch 1.07 - FP cost reduced from 32 to 22 (fixed in patch 1.07.1), recovery time has been shortened. In addition, grapple range has been increased.
- Note: As of Patch 1.08 a bug where the attack power of the right hand weapon was sometimes applied when casting the Inescapable Frenzy Incantation with a two-handed Sacred Seal in the left hand has been fixed.

Greedy Gankers + Endure + Inescapable Frenzy = two people scattering like rats while their friend takes flames to the face. Human psychology is hilarious.
- Anonymous
love using this, pretty good damage, drains enemy fp with the madness proc, and can punish certain attacks like wiffed jumps.

In case anyone wants to still use this spell that has now been massacred to death (why Fromsoft, why), it is still bugged with Azur's Glinstone Staff which will boost Inescapable Frenzy's casting speed (despite being an incantation), if you have it in your off-hand.
- Anonymous
And now this is useless becease they patched the 2 handen one shot. There goes the best grab in the game. Reduced to being now useless in battle. No more reducing greedy gank squads when you are once again 1v3. You will be missed and i shall never forget you in the prime days.
Look at how they massacred My Boy T_T patch 1.08
- Anonymous
as update 1.08 nothing works with this, tried every seal, every right hand weapon, every upgrade lvl, every stat distribution and all talismans.
Only thing that changes the dmg is the Upgrade lvl of the seal. So rn dmg only useful at low RL minimum stats pvp builds
- Anonymous
Currently bugged when 2 handed it takes on your other hands status effect. So a lot of the one shots people are seeing are getting hit by this exploit. It will be patched

I'm the salty comment below, but after some more duels it's really not all that bad. The recovery buff is much bigger than I gave credit for. Not immediately losing for deciding to throw this out is such a relief now, and if you're really in someones head it's not out of the question to snag 'em. Still avoidable by people paying attention, but it's at least a tool in the kit now, as opposed to a bad joke.
- Anonymous
gee thanks, I'm getting one shotted in PvP! Thankfully I could oneshot others too
- Anonymous
buffed still doesnt quite mean usable. The recovery endlag buff is nice, but good lick hitting anyone with this. Make it yoink people out of jumps and rolls and then we're talking, but the opponent pressing almost any button in response to this usually beats it.

Doing a casual NG+1 with summons (RL117+20/8) a dude invaded me and killed me with frostbite+bleed twice in a single grab. I was the host, i have 2400 HP. (Y)
- Anonymous
“Let’s give several sleep proc animations for bosses and enemies, but not madness!”
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
As of 1.07.1, still inflicts bleed. Exposed to it today when a full bull goat with a dagger invaded my solo run. He bled me twice and killed me in one grapple.
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
a perfectly useless spell in pve. enemies can grapple you, but you can't grapple them. sounds about right for fromsoft now a days.
- Anonymous
Uh so does anyone know if there is a way to one shot in pvp with this as of 1.07. Cause an invader just deleted me with is plus endure.
- Anonymous
Since Fextra is broken right now and you can't reply to comments, for those who are wondering this instantly will proc madness regardless of their resistance to it. Either it deals an astronomically high number that isn't possible to reach with maxed stats, armor, and buffs, or it straight up ignores the resistance altogether and just triggers the effect.
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
does anyone know how much madness build up this does? I've tried it on pvp once and i think i remember the dude got madness proc immediately, but i cant be sure. I've tried to test it multiple times but thats the only time i managed to connect this spell.
- Anonymous
Very fun to punish attack spam by endure casting this. Nothing like violently making out with an ironjar powestanced greathammer user to assert dominance
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
Grapple range is noticeably better after the update. Maybe fix the left handed two-hand bug now since it is kinda consistent to hit.
- Anonymous
Useless trash. Takes more effort to land than it does using ABSOLUTELY ANYTHING ELSE to win a fight.
- Anonymous
Fun fact: After recent testing, the incant seems to inflict nearly the same amount of damage regardless of the right hand weapon. However, if the Seal is two handed while also having a right hand weapon, Inescapable Frenzy’s damage output will climb exponentially higher.
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
put endure on your right hand weapon. gain crackhead endurance, grab your enemy and scream at them until they become based and frenzypilled
- Anonymous
i wish you could cast this mid air, timing it with a good plunge and landing on somebody like a jockey from L4D would be the funniest thing ever
- Anonymous
Almost useless most of the time in PVE sadly, but its great for ruining Gideon Ofnir's day.
- Anonymous
I've had issues trying to make this work at all, I tried it three times on Juno Hoslow but I wasn't grabbing him. It wasn't because of the bloodhound step because you can't see him when he spams it. So what was I doing wrong?
- Anonymous
its not fantastic, but against a bloodthirsty gank you'd be surprised how many grabs you can pull off
- Anonymous
You know today i learned somthing rivers of blood weapon art spammers gan be grabbed easily with this, if you make your character wear verry heavy armor and use the bull goat talisman!
Finally a good counter against these annoying gankers who just spam the weapon art every time for the cheap win.
Seriously had enough of people who do this in pvp with rivers of blood, it's so annoying, overused, and an old thing to to deal with those kind of people the "fair" way!
Sadly this doesn't work for moonveil weapon art spammers. But we will find a perfect counter fir that eventually too!
Seriously "play the way you wanna play, and nobody cares what you think of" people say? Even though 80% of pvp are those toxic, over used weapons that people spam their weapon art of, and no one likes to deal with.
So if they don't wanna quite using rivers of blood fine, but don't complain to me when i grab you with this, and one shot you becease you wanted to use your weapon art spam against me. You hypocrite!
Seriously what is pvp these days?

SPELL ISNT USELESS, TWO HAND IT FOR THE 1 SHOT. GIDEON GOT ****ED 9K DAMAGE IN ONE GRAB.
- Anonymous
Okay, after extensive use of this spell I can safely say that it has some use in pvp. 1.04. did remove it one-shot potential but it also buffed its speed significantly.
2 thing that are required for this spell to work are capped casting speed (40dex + radagon's icon) and any weapon with endure ash of war.
You basically want to trade with somebody. Endure will provide both immunity to stagger and good physical negation.
Good players probably wont get baited into it, but this setup works wonders against reckless players.
After the grab, other player will probably have around 30%hp and good spell to follow up with would be Unedurable frenzy (tho you must have enough mana bar to maintain it for a few seconds) This combo will probably kill them.
I personally think that this spell should have hyper armor, this would actually make this spell somewhat viable as a close ranged spell.

Inescapable Frenzy works properly now, as of Patch 1.05. It's the first thing listed in Bug Fixes.
'Fixed a bug where the damage of Inescapable Frenzy was affected by right hand weapon.'

If anything deserves to kill another player with 50+ vigor in one hit, it's this spell. But it doesn't. And lots of other things do
- Anonymous
it says the frenzy incantations can only be used on NPCs Invaders or named enemies, but its misleading. enemies that are immune to the madness still take big damage to health and with flame of frenzy poise, it can stagger large enemies if enough of the individual flames hit them, this is regardless of being immune to the madness status effect. the erdtree avatars are good examples of enemies that are immune to madness but still take big damage from the incantations.

I did some damage testing.
It seems that they fixed it. It now scales off the seal used. I tested it on a keen infused katana in my r1 slot
Damage remained the same with a +4 frenzy seal with or with any sword. I didn't get a bleed proc (even with two attacks back to back.) 164 incant 16 str 17 dex 7 int 43 faith on flame guardians. (691 with sword, no sword, upgraded dagger, second frenzy seal.)
Seems that it doesn't apply cold, bleed (or poison), but it does apply madness regardless of the weapon it seems.
Seems a second frenzy seal off hand does not boost it at all.
Fire scorp charm seems to work, going to about 739
Golden vow seems to boost too, about 750
Seems the flock talisman works on it now as well. (about 701)
I assume any damage boost spell or charm works as well
- Anonymous
during my first playthrough of the game with would do insane damage to npc invaders, sometimes even one shotting them. now it doesnt even do half the bar. its a spell that has an extremely niche use and is quite difficult to hit. why on earth they nerfed it is beyond me
- Anonymous
Let me ask you in all fairness.
Is a one shot grab attack truly broken when it has an slow animation? I don't see why people are complaining on this spell's damage.
I mean you people say that things like rivers of blood, or moonveil is good the way it is in pvp but this is too overpowerd?
I say no to all of that this is the most high risk high reward but fair thing in pvp. When someone peforms it on you don't be greedy that's all you need to do for it.
Now rivers of blood gankers on the other hand

Found out it still oneshots if you have sacred seal in two hands

This thing needs dark hand levels of hyperarmor for its current damage/risk reward factor.

Out of all the one shot garbage in this game it shocks me this of all things doesn’t even do 8/10 of a healthbar in pvp.
- Anonymous
The spell isn’t “bugged” I found that most animations that are ash of wars, certain heavies, or spells grant immunity to the grab. Also any procs cancel the ability like all other abilities. The spell i good when you have high poise or a poise flask also 2 seals like frenzied flame and dragon seal are really good as dragon seal will proc madness faster with the more arcane you have. If you have a hard time hitting it imagine if it as a hammer or dagger also lead them into it. Get them to do a running r1 or r1.
- Anonymous
This spell is not bugged, it works exactly as Shabriri intended. May Chaos take the world!
- Anonymous
Still needs fixed, badly. Often times when i stun someone with madness i try to follow up with this but my hand goes right through them and it does 7 damage. Worthless as of 1.04
If you still play 1.02. this incant is affected by physical damage buff like exalted flesh and flame grant me strength

Garbage. Meelee range spell that is still broken as of 1.04.

I tried this on vyke and it did 600 damage with a plus 8 vyke's warspear in the right hand and plus 8 frenzyflame seal in the left. strangely, while two-handing the seal, it instead did 5300 damage.

Throw some sleeping pots on players and give them a good night's frenzied kiss

since the crit damage on the weapon you have equipped in your main hand matters for this, would the misericorde technically be best since it has the highest crit boost in the game?

If you have trouble landing this in pvp then do the following:
1. Looks are everything, you need to appear as someone they trust. Try wearing Fia's hood and robe. She gives great hugs and so can you.
2. Now make them want to feel all warm and fuzzy inside by changing your name to "Free Hugs".
3. When adversary starts to get close give them an option warm welcome gesture so they know what is expected of them.
4. Now just give them the best warmest face hug you can. :)
- Anonymous
So tested after patch 1.4. So yes post nerf, it still 1 shots with the same mechanic as before u just gotta 2 hand your seal.
Alittle annoying but hey ill take it

It seems to have some degree of hyperarmor, but only through the middle of the animation and after; almost none during the startup 'crest glow' animation. I've successfully grabbed some dude and traded with a Giant Hunt; but I've been flinched out of the spell as well with things like a throwing knife. As reference, the character I had both of these instances happen to had 53 poise.
Still think the damage could be buffed from where it currently is. My current incant scaling is at 284, and this deals about 1000-1200 damage to players, which is not great considering how hard it is to actually land the grab.
On average most pvp players have somewhere in the realm of 1400-1900 hp at a meta level of 120, so if it can reach that bottom threshold of health in terms of damage, I'd say that's when the spell is in a good spot balance wise.
I'll probably do more testing when I can get my incant scaling to 300+, see if that changes anything.
- Anonymous
ignoring the pvp minigamers, is this worth using in the main game as of now? (patch 1.04.)
- Anonymous
After some testing (on pot warriors and flame guardians) I can confirm that the inescapable frenzy can still one shot people. To still trigger the one shot, the seal needs to be in the offhand and a single hit crit weapon on the main hand. Then wielding your seal of choice (I've tested with the frenzied flame and clawmark seals) with 2 hands and casting inescapable frenzy will proceed to do well over 1000 damage per tick.
- Anonymous
It seems like the new hotfix might've bugged this incantation - if you 2hand your seal with a weapon equipped on your person that has a status effect, it will deal that status effect instead of madness buildup, and it scales off the weapon.
Tested it with scarlet rot, bleed, and frostbite (together and also single) and each one could proc. Doesn't seem to take effect when 1handing the seal.

i have never known pain such as that which i felt when i landed this on a malenia cosplayer and immediately ate a waterfowl dance. from pls Put It Back

Everything that is fun seems to be on target and everything annoying is untouched lol, okay From Software.
What about nerfing magic damage and Moonveil instead ?
- Anonymous
It's like Elden Ring goes out it's way to reward laziness, they nerf this but didn't touch Moonveil.
- Anonymous
Does anyone know how the poise/hyper armor works on this? I've seen people poise through attacks from Greatswords, but I've literally had this animation interrupted by a throwing knife despite having 59 poise and the animation being almost done.
- Anonymous
although it DOES come out faster this incantation will sometimes not kill... which is kind of lame for basically one of the only command grabs in the game.
also, i tested it and the decreased startup time doesn’t mean you can grab slept players. although the move now comes out fast enough to catch a slept player mashing roll, you just knock them back and deal like ~80 damage.

Honestly this should have remained a one shot no matter what at high level, the risk of using this is super high. Now it's absolute trash
- Anonymous
Further testing required but the patch seems to have broke this spells scaling. The damage seems to be affected ONLY by the seals upgrade levels. Tried numerous seal at the same upgrade level with different levels of faith on the npc enemies on the mountaintop of giants and a +1 frenzied seal did the exact same damage as a +3 godlsayer and +3 basic seal

Welp, there goes one of my favorite incants. Went from high-risk high-reward to high-risk meh-reward.

Rip inescapable frenzy
25.02.2022-19.04.2022
We will miss epic oneshots
- Anonymous
In v1.04, Inescapable frenzy only does about 700 damage (give or take for resistances) with the frenzy seal +7, 33 faith, and Flock’s Canvas Talisman. For how easy it is to dodge and how hard it is to land, this is absurdly low. 700 damage is not even a large amount compared to damage achievable with other tools at this level. The damage should be immensely buffed. Triple it! That would still be considered a massive nerf.
The bugged version showed us what a command grab could truly offer in fromsoft pvp, and I absolutely loved it. Every other command grab we have known has been left in the dust so that Inescapable Frenzy can flourish!

WHAT DO YOU MEAN IT DOSNT DO FRENZY OH MY GOD THIS GAME SOMETIMES *crying*

One of the funniest damn things I've seen in this game was my Mimic chain comboing Inescapable Frenzy on Gideon Ofnir every time he tried to charge spells, I literally just stood off to the side laughing until he was dead. Didn't see THAT one comin', did ya, Mr. All-Knowing? Lmao
- Anonymous
Honestly if it made you lunge forward a bit more, not too much, it would be optimal. The past command-grab spell (Sacred Flame) had this, in addition to being able to move with it being casted.
I would love it if they changed this spell so that it does less dmg and doesn't oneshot people, but had a little bit more range. Maybe like a two or three step lunge. Because in it's current state, it's mainly just a meme spell that you will rarely ever land, but oneshots if you do.
A really funny way to use this spell is to wait at the top of that one volcano manor elevator that's before the godskin noble fight and use it right as they get to the top.

I felt like I was playing Castlevania 64 while trying to parkour to this thing. They had tiny tombstones in the wall you had to jump between with terrible controls. Exact same feeling
Guys help, I basically use a sleep infused weapon and then I cast inescapable frenzy, but only inflicts like 40 damage without doing the animation also if the player is sleeping, how is it possible ?
