Irina is an NPC in Elden Ring. Irina is a blind character wearing a ribbon over her eyes, and a dirty dress stained with blood. She can be encountered just beyond the Bridge of Sacrifice, on the Weeping Peninsula Side. Irina warns you about a rebellion in Castle Morne, and asks you to deliver a letter to her father, commander of the castle forces.

My good father secreted me out the castle, but decided himself to stay. He says it's his duty, as commander.

 I... I fear for father's life.

Irina Questline: How to complete Irina's Quest

  •
Speak to Irina to receive a letter, "Irina's Letter," which you need to deliver to her father in Castle Morne at the southern tip of the Weeping Peninsula.
  • After delivering the letter to Edgar, he will explain that he cannot leave his duties at Castle Morne to visit Irina because he must protect the Grafted Blade Greatsword from being stolen by the Misbegotten. Return to Irina to find an Iron Cleaver embedded in the ground next to her.
  • After successfully delivering her letter to Edgar, he will lament that he is not able to go to Irina because of his ongoing duties at Castle Morne - he cannot allow the Grafted Blade Greatsword to be stolen by the Misbegotten.
    • NOTE: If you kill Edgar, the questline will progress similarly
  • Defeat the Leonine Misbegotten and retrieve the sword; Edgar will then thank you and return to Irina. You can then find Edgar next to Irina — talk to him to advance the quest.
  • Finally, travel to the Revenger's Shack in Western Liurnia and defeat the invader Edgar the Revenger to complete the questline. [Map Link]

Dialogue in Elden Ring: Irina

Introduction

  • Hello? Is somebody there?
Might I bend your ear for a moment, please.
My name is Irina. I've escaped from Castle Morne, to the south.
    The servants there...have rebelled.
I-I can't be sure what it is; my eyesight's been weak since birth you see...
But I swear I heard frightful howling from all over.
My good father secreted me out the castle,
    but decided himself to stay.
He says it's his duty, as commander.
  • I... I fear for father's life.
The servants are full wroth. Filled with hatred for every one of us.
They've since come for every one of the companions I escaped with. They haven't spared a soul.
I fear it's no different at Castle Morne...
    Please, I implore you.
Would you mind taking a letter to my father, at the castle?
My sole wish is that he escape, even if his honour should be the price.
Please... I just want him to be safe...

If attacked

  • Agh! Ah, why on earth? I do not wish to cause anyone harm.
  • (On player kill) Oh, bless the stars. You've chosen to reconsider.

If killed

  • Father... Please, be safe...

If accepting to deliver the letter

  • Thank you, dearly.
    Then please, take this.
    [Gives Irina's Letter]
Deliver it to my father, who remains in the castle, if you please.
  • Please, if you wouldn't mind. Deliver the letter to my father at the castle.
He can be stubborn, but I'm sure he'll come around.

Elden Ring Irina Notes & Trivia

Note: Irina can be killed as a method of anointing the Lord of Blood's Favor, rather than using the other two maidens intended. She does not retaliate with more than a damageless Rejection spell when struck. This method of anointing the favor will not work if she is slain by the Misbegotten during hers and Edgar's storylines. It has no functional impact on hers, Edgar's, or even Varre's dialogue or stories however, as Edgar can still be delivered the letter off her corpse, Varre has no dialogue for killing Irina, and Irina dies shortly after accessing Castle Morne regardless.

Other Notes on Irina

  • Near Irina, on the way to Castle Morne, lies a Hearse ambushed by the Misbegotten. These are, presumably, what is left of Irina's escort.
  • At Revenger's Shack, Edgar appears as a hostile invader in the form of Edgar the Revenger, with the shack covered in dead bodies and Raw Meat Dumplings. The bodies don't appear to be Misbegotten, who Edgar swore to slay every last one of, so it is unknown why they were targeted instead.
  • Irina's appearance and blindness is similar to that of the Hyetta. Her father, Edgar, also drops a Shabriri Grape upon death, which are the items that Hyetta must eat to continue on her path to becoming a finger maiden. Possibly, like Hyetta, Irina was meant to become a finger maiden. It is unclear whether the Shabriri Grape that Edgar drops was something he was simply holding, intended to be given to Irina, or is literally his eyeball.
    • It may be possible that after Irina's death, her body was taken over by Hyetta, just like Yura's body was taken over by Shabriri, after his demise. However, even after meeting Hyetta, Irina's body remains where it is.
    • Irina can be used to bloody the Lord of Blood's Favor item from the White Mask Varre questline if you kill her. Does not work if she is already dead.
  • Irina of Morne is a possible reference to a similarly named character in Dark Souls III, Irina of Carim, both being blind maidens. Her guardian, Eygon, even wears the Morne's Set, sharing the name with the castle.

I hit her after getting the letter, then gave it to her father. But when I went back she was still there. If you want her to stay alive for the entire game, just hit her and she doesn't die unless your forgiven at the church of vows.

There is a clear but canonically unexplained connection between Hyetta and Irina. They look exactly the same, same voice actress and their questlines are related.

The most common and accepted theory is that Hyetta is a spirit or being that has taken over / possessed Irina’s body (this is why it is required and mandatory that Irina dies so Hyetta can spwan).

But unlike Yura / Shabriri case, Irina’s dead body never disappears after we interact with Hyetta. We can still see Irina’s corpse while we are doing Hyetta’s questline and this is also unexplained. Could this be a simple mistake? Or is FromSoftware letting us know they are indeed two different bodies / persons? But why they look identical?

My other theory is: Could Irina and Hyetta be twin sisters (which could explain why they look alike)? Both daughters of Edgar of Morne, born with the weak sight and aspiring to become finger maidens? .. My new theory is that Hyetta emabarked on her journey to seek the light first and achieved her purpose while her twin sister Irina couldn’t make it and had a tragic ending.

I just don't understand one thing. After some time playing I discovered this mission, but when I found her, she was already dead.

          • Anonymous

I experienced a glitch where Edgar just never appeared, at all. But that's not important. What is important is that a couple visits to her corpse later gave me the option to examine the site, and the resulting conclusion "She's dead. Ok" is by far the funniest stuff I've seen in the game.

quest also triggers if u just take the letter and kill the misbegotten, happened to me now, edgar spawning as red and everything

              • Anonymous

I really don't think enough people realize that she IS Hyetta. Similarly to how Shabriri takes over Yura's body if I had to guess. That's why she needs to die for Hyetta to appear at the grace past Stormveil.a

                • Anonymous

So yeah, I got her letter, went to deliver it, got killed by the Knight's Cavalry before making it to a bonfire, and she was already dead upon the second passing, before I'd even made it past Morne's outer wall...

                  • Anonymous

Her body doesn't even disappear once Hyetta shows up later, and From Software hasn't bothered to patch out this very obvious oversight over a year later.

                    • So if you kill Irina but got the letter first then killed Edgar without talking then killed Leonine Misbegotten it appears of course Irina does not re-spawn and Hyetta does not show up at Lake-Facing Cliffs. How do I advance in the games quest? What do I do next?

                      • Anonymous

if you killed irina by your own hand, hyetta will never appear in your entire playthrough, tried using church of vows still no luck, don't kill her if you want hyetta quest reward

                        • Anonymous

This quest was bugged for me cause I got Irina's letter, but when I eventually went to Castle Morne, Edgar wasn't there. As in, he just didn't spawn at all. I originally went to the Weeping Peninsula to get the Demi-human Queen's staff and some quick items in the west area of the peninsula where Sellen's real body is. I went back to Limgrave, I cleared all the dungeons, and before going to clear Stormveil I made my way to the Smouldering Church in Caelid and then back to finish up the rest of the dungeons in the WP. Now I'm already in Liurnia, Irina is dead, and Edgar is still absent. I haven't gone to the revenger's shack yet, but if he still doesn't invade me there I'll be very sad cause I'd love to finish Hyetta's quest in this playthrough.

people are asking why edgar would want to kill them, it's because he went mad with frenzy after irinas death and most likely just attacks you because he's crazy

Just wanted to say that in my playthrough, I am not able to use the cloth for Varre's questline on Irina's dead body. Not tested on multiple but just letting you know

idk if anyone else noticed, literally haven't foud anything on this subject, but there is a cut content item called "[ERROR]Rya's necklace". The discribtion says: "A necklace worn and treasured by Irina. Given to her as a farewell gift." Has the same icon as rya's necklace. I play the game in german and the item's name was translated to Irinas Halskette (=necklace), so don't know why it's called rya's necklace in english if clearly the description says otherwise. Perhaps it was supposed to be tied to Irina's quest at first and got later changed. I knew there was more to her questline. Discovered with grand merchant mod!

If you accept the letter from Irina but don't turn it in to Edgar then rest at the first site of grace in Liurnia, Hyetta will appear near you, Irina will die and Edgar will disappear from Castle Morne (I had not entered Castle Morne yet) and not appear at Irina's body.

                                  • Anonymous

If you accept the letter and kill her then give the letter to edgar, he will still help with leonine misbegotten but after talking to him he will spawn where irina was and will attack on sight idk what happedn if you let him live maybe the quest will progress the same but i killed him and Hyetta didn't spawn i will try to go to the church of vows maybe reviving Irina will make hyetta spawn or something

I never delivered the letter, went to find him and he was gone. I had killed misbegotten beforehand, i went back to woman to see if I started her quest properly and she was dead? I never delivered the letter.

Does anyone know if she dies if you never talk to her (or at least never accept the letter) in the first place?

I just stated my NG+ but Edgar isn't where he is supposed to be but on my first playthrough he was. I have the letter to give him and Irina is dead. The only thing I've done out of sequence is killing magma wyrm Makar then riding straight to get the giant crusher because the chest was bugged on my last playthrough with no hammer. But I didn't interact with any grace checkpoints in Altus plateau, I know resting at a grace there and maybe using the lift as well triggers changes in-game but that's the only thing I can think of. Does anyone here know what step I missed? or maybe not done something I should have?

Irina's body can be used to bloody the Lord of Blood's Favor item from the White Mask Varre questline. (Not tested postmortum, only by killing her)
So... I tested it, it does not work

Her name is Irina she is blind and has blonde hair. There is character in ds3 who is blind and has blonde hair name Irina. ds3 Irina was guarded by a knight named Eygon. Eyogn's armor is based off a person named Morne. Elden ring Irina comes from a place called Castle Morne. Morne was a legendary figure from Carim which means Castle Morne was named after Morne and therefore located in Carim. Castle Moren is located in the lands between which must mean The Lands Between is Carim confirmed.

It should also be noted that it is completely possible to meet Hyetta near the grace near thops even when Irina is still alive and the letter not yet given to her father.

Ok so I accepted Irina's quest to deliver the letter. But while fighting enemies nearby she was killed by their range attack. Will this break my quest? I tried resting at the nearby grace site but she's gone now. Not even her body remains, just gone without a trace...

Okay, something is really messed up with this questline… on my first playthrough I forgot to give the letter to Irina’s father and she died, I did not expected that, but at least I knew what caused her death. Now on my second playthrough I did everything according to this guide. I haven’t been to Margit’s yet, but I defeated all the field bosses across Limgrave (two deathbirds, two night’s calvary and the dragon) I kept Castle Morne for the of the tour before Margit. Now I went to Castle Morne, I found Irina’s father, I gave him his damned letter and Irina is dead… please, if anyone knows a proper solution how to keep her alive, don’t hold it back, because I don’t think that field boss battles triggered her death…
P.s. I gave the letter to her father right before I lit the “Behind the Castle” grace, so I haven’t been to the Misbegotten yet.

                                                                  • Anonymous

After killing him, I went to the spot where Edgar was supposed to be and he is gone, Irina died just as expected. Omw to see if I am going to get invaded at the revenger's shack.

                                                                    • Anonymous

For anyone wondering, this was noticed when killing Irina after she gave away her letter (the purpose was to obtain Lord of Blood's Favor for Varré's quest - which did work).

                                                                            • Anonymous

found something interesting. i accepted her letter and looked at her carefully and saw how she resembles Hyetta.
So i gave Hyetta the grapes and then warped to Castle Morne to deliver the letter but her father Edgar was gone, i checked my map and to find Irina dead too, and i havent even killed the Castle Morne boss yet. So i believe starting Hyetta's Quest will also would also end the Irina and Edgar Quest

                                                                              • Wow. So I laughed when Irina's voice actor pronounced "secreting" as if she was talking about an oozing wound. I always pronounced it like the word secret + ing for that second meaning (to hide/conceal). But it turns out she used the correct pronunciation. Learning English lessons from Elden Ring. Gotta love it.

                                                                                • Anonymous

So I beat the game and got her letter before hand, she’s at Lake-Facing Cliffs now and I never delivered the letter or went into castle morne on my 2nd play through question is what do I do now

                                                                                  • Anonymous

So, about this girl. I accepted the letter, cleared up the castle (missed her father lol) and explored all of weeping peninsula. I came back to her curious, and she was still alive. Either her death is chance based or I have yet to hit her death trigger

                                                                                    • It seems going to the Lake-Facing Cliffs kills her. I started a new save and ran to the Lake-Facing Cliffs Grace and resetted the area to see if Hyetta spawns, she did, and then I found Irina dead.

                                                                                      • Anonymous

Well interresting fact. If killed by the Player, even after delivering her Letter Hyetta does not seem to spawn in Liurnia. So im pretty sure now they are the same Person after all. Aaaaaand i need another playthrouoght for the Questline.

                                                                                        • Anonymous

                                                                                          • Anonymous

I met Irina when I was exploring Weeping Peninsula, then went to Stormhill, thorugh there to Liurnia, explored "teh s**t" out of there as well, and after some time there killed an invader... then returned back to Limgrave and Weeping Peninsula to do more exploring... Castle Morne done, Edgar nowhere, Irina dead... then I realized that invader back then WAS HIM (confirmed by checking my chest with the +8 halberd )
To quote Griffin from MIB3: "Where there is death, there will always be death."

                                                                                            • Anonymous

His dialogue doesn't change at all, even while equipping the grafted blade greatsword. Irina will still be alive (dialogue won't change, she'll still ask you to deliver her letter, Hyetta doesn't spawn even if you have grapes). It seems the condition to her dying is related to taking her letter.

                                                                                              • Anonymous

After extensive testing there is no way to save her. I've tried killing Edgar first which is really all you can do to test. The minute you walk past that blue line for Castle Morne she will die. If you kill the boss before speaking to her father, she will die. This is also without using any site of grace and no teleporting. So basically unless there something hidden she cannot be saved.

                                                                                                • Anonymous

                                                                                                      • Anonymous

                                                                                                            • Anonymous

                                                                                                              • Anonymous

Literally the same model and face customization. She's using the altered version of Hyetta' clothes too. And the Edgar connection is there too. She is almost certainly related to Hyetta directly in some way, probably a Shabriri-style body snatch. Only problem is that her body doesn't seem to disappear even when Hyetta appears.

                                                                                                                      • Anonymous

                                                                                                                        • Anonymous

It makes sense because we see Shabriri do the same with Yura's corpse after he's killed by Elenora, and it would explain why the two look so similar and have the same voice. Not to mention that Edgar goes mad and drops a shabriri's grape, which would indicate some connection to the frenzied flame.
