The Iron Greatsword weapon can be found at the following location:

Possible drop from the two large red-maned Misbegotten in Leyndell, Royal Capital, in the ash-covered path leading toward the Forbidden Lands.
- Closest site of grace is the Avenue Balcony in Leyndell
- Much more likely to drop during nighttime
Possible drop from Misbegotten Warrior in Miquella's Haligtree, north of the Haligtree Town Plaza Site of Grace. This is the most ideal farming spot, as it can still be farmed after burning the Erdtree.

  I threw Flame art on a +25 Set of these to dual wield, and i am hitting 990 (before buffs), best "Normal" weapon to use as your standard, i two-hit a host with these, and insta killed two summons on an elevator while doing a drop attack, before killing the host immediately after, ****ing triple kill.
  
  these things are glorious, faster than the Colossal or Great maces, which are the only other thjng drawing near in terms of pure damage output and they put that fdmage OUT quicker than *either* of those other two classes while using up less stamina too, so you have more to dodge if need be.
  
  highest Max Damage of all infusable Greatswords, best.

  This sword has tremendous strength scaling advantage when infused over all other greatswords. It only slightly lags behind the Greatsword by 27 AR. At 53 STR and 45 ARC it has 80 more AR than a Claymore when infused when Blood. It does absolutely ridiculous damage with Braggart's Roar charged R2 and can one-shot hosts with roar medallion and axe talisman.

  one really easy way to farm the haligtree misbegotten is by using an arcane/dex build with morgots cursed sword and black knife armor.
  because black knife armor gives you a stealth buff, you run up to the misbegotten without being detected by it, ignoring the smaller ones, and spam cursed blood slice. and as soon as he dies, head back to the site of grace. because the sword is so effective on its own, you can use whatever talismans you want, i.e. marikas scarseal and silver scarab to boost item drop rate

  Here is a detailed setup I use for PvE that I hope others will find helpful, informative and most of all, fun.
  
  Powerstanced Iron Greatswords, both with a Blood Affinity and the AoW: Seppuku
  
  80/80 STR and ARC
  
  With 141x2 Bleed build up + the extra 30(x2) from Seppuku, that is 171x2 or 342 Bleed build up per L1. With an
  incredible amount of status build up, very strong ramping AR from talisman's/White Mask, strong stance damage and
  an impressive and relitively short L1 moveset that will reliably proc Bleed and do insane damage to anything that can
  Hemmorage.
  
  Lord of Blood's Exaltation
  Rotten Winged Sword Insignia
  Millicent's Prosthesis
  Twinblades Talisman
  
  I opt to use the Twinblades Talisman because of the excellent and very short 3 hit L1 combo enabling the last hit to come
  out consistently.
  The Green Turtle Talisman is also a solid choice due to how much stamina powerstanced Greatswords use and
  stamina regen being invaluable. It stacks very well with the Greenburst Crystal Tear.
  
  You can also consider the Claw Talisman as the jumping attacks of powerstanced Greatswords are quite powerful,
  especially paired with the Raptor's Black Feathers chest piece.
  
  If an enemy or boss is immune to Bleed, you can switch to an Occult Affinity with Cragblade AoW on both Greatswords,
  and swap out Lord of Blood's Exaltation to either one of the other Talisman's listed, or one of your choice.
  
  For Wonderous Physick, I use:
  
  Thorny Cracked Tear
  Greenburst Crystal Tear
  
  Thorny Cracked Tear will stack with the multi-hit talismans, ramping up your Iron Greatsword's AR to absurd levels,
  and the Greenburst Crystal Tear will help with stamina recovery.
  
  For buffs; You can choose between Golden Vow and Rallying Standard, paired with either Flame, Grant Me Strength
  or Bloodboil Aromatic.
  
  Golden Vow (Incantation Version) Lasts 50 seconds longer than Rallying Standard's buff, with the trade off of being
  slightly weaker. With the time between using Sepukku with both Iron Greatswords and using other buffs, You will only
  have a short timne to make use of Rallying Standard, so Golden Vow I would reccomend with this setup.
  
  Bloodboil Aromatic is very powerful, with a solid 30% physical damage buff and a 20% max stamina increase, at the cost
  of -25% damage negation. Lasting for 30 seconds longer than FGMS, and the afore mentioned somewhat lengthy
  buff stacking before a boss encounter, there will be more value in using Bloodboil Aromatic. Especially considering,
  that when switching to a Sacred Seal to reapply FGMS will remove the Seppuku buff from the Greatsword you swapped
  out. whereas, you can freely use an aromatic to reapply its buff with no such stipulation.
  
  You can choose to wear the White Mask and Raptor's Black Feathers for optimal and maximised damage, but if fashion
  souls is important to you as it is to me, you can elect to not use them if you prefer.
  
  I hope this helps people in some way if they are looking for ideas how to build for this weapon! This is just my setup
  and I do not claim this to be the BiS for this Armament or anything like that, my hope is that this helps people in someway
  have fun with this amazing weapon.

  This is the ultimate weapon for PvE STR build. Get this as far as possible. Don not bother infusing any funny AoW. Every boss likes to be knocked down with Stamp. Malenia loves this great thing as well.

  For those who have enough arc, you can use Mohgwyn spear on stairs directly underneath the small room leonine guy is in, near Haligtree town grace. 1 full bloodboon ritual usually kills mf totally risk-free (+7, 30 arc)

  This is the only early level farm in the game I do not have a fast solution for. Leonine guys in Haligtree are impossibly tedious to kill at rl20 or rl1. So your best bet would be to do it in Leyendell. Take night maiden mist or rotten breath (use according talismans/headgear), use hidden tear physick, summon someone very tanky and preferably of human build (dung puppet comes to mind) and aoe all the perfumers and smol misbegotten with the spell. Then, you and your summon shall easily tag team the Leonine guy. But it will be a long grind...

  Man I really wish this was just dropped by the Leonine Misbegotten, and he guarded a chest that had the Grafted Blade. On my first playthrough I fought him and I immediately fell in love with the design of the sword that it was distracting and causing me to die for multiple attempts. Then he drops some big ass sword I’ve never seen before with a whopping 40 strength requirement. If he was gonna drop the GBGS, you could have at least had him holding it instead of blueballing me with the iron gs in his hands.

  Why must Miyazaki always lock the best/coolest items behind atrocious RNG grinds in this game? This thing is almost universally better on damage than every other non somber GS regardless of infusion, with the only real downsides being it being slightly heavier and shorter than normal, and lacking that little bit of innate bleed buildup of the flamberge. It also looks really cool, with no scabbard when put away. Of course, this had to be too good to just be able to use, so they had to go and hide it in an absurdly low drop chance from a rare high level enemy in a couple completely random, annoying, and obscure locations. Why?? At least it's a bit better grind than something like the haligtree greatshield or that magma curved sword, those are absolutely awful.

  Only real difference between this and the Bastard Sword is it being 30% heavier and that the Bastard Sword is obtainable in the first 10 minutes of the game whereas this will take you closer to 10 hours due to farming it being painfully slow and not available until at least halfway into the game.. and for what? Difference in AR is only 30-50 which translates to maybe a 3% difference in damage since their scalings are near identical regardless of infusion. Overrated for it being basically the same exact weapon. No sheath is cool though, I guess?

  Got it from the 238th misbegotten kill in Leyndell. If I am to just look at this data alone, I would expect the drop rate for this to be around 0.5% - 0.6%, that is disregarding the stacks and stacks of silver pickled chicken tendies I've consumed.

  I've read some comments about farming this carefully by pulling the leonine aggro with a bow etc. An unconventional, riskier but faster method to get this beauty is to jump in dat and spam stormcaller on your strongest weapon. High vig and def is recommended. Praise the Iron Gs

  I committed to a Hoarfrost Stomp Uchigatana/Moonveil offhand melee weapons for my sorcerer build (and yes, Hoarfrost Stomp IS still great in PvE; don't be a meta slave), and was planning on even disdaining the Moonlight Greatsword (still wound up getting it along the way anyway, cuz I wanted Tiche and was in the neighborhood). Then I get to Leyndell and killed the Misbegotten guarding the perfume bottle and he dropped this in one shot. I've unironically spent whole days trying to farm one in the past with no luck, and now it decides to drop the one time I didn't even plan on looking for it. Needless to say, I upgraded it and stuck Hoarfrost Stomp on that instead, with the MLGS in my offhand for melee. I'm hitting jump attacks for 1800+ at 80 INT. Didn't even need to respec to use it, just pop a rune arc.
  It's almost annoying how good this sword is with how difficult it is to get.

  Never used this since it's found so late in the game. Now that I'm better at the game, I got to the capital at low level and farmed for it (horrible time lol). It was worth it. Looks amazing, feels amazing. I love the "cold iron" look on it, so I put cold on it, impaling thrust for a thrust range attack and I'm dunking on the lands between. 10/10, shoulda been dropped by leonine dude in Morne castle.

  The misbegotten warriors with these iron great swords can be stun-locked to death with the Storm Blade ash of war. Actually, Storm Blade stuns nearly anything you hit lol. As for the sword; it looks cool, and has very nice guarding stats in its category which is helpful if you're only going to 2H this thing on your adventures and you needed to do some snappy blocking.

  One of the more difficult weapons to obtain and it's not even all that special. When infused Heavy it only has ~30 AR more than a Heavy-infused Bastard Sword, while being 30% heavier and not obtainable until quite later in the story *and* having to be farmed from one of the most irritating enemies in the game, I was disappointed when I finally got one. No scabbard is cool though, I guess?

  The game mentions it doing pierce damage. But what attacks of this exactly do pierce damage? None of the attacks in its moveset are thrusting.

  One of my favorite standard weapons in the game along with the colossal Greatsword, Omen Cleaver and Guardian’s Sword Spear. All of them do amazing damage and are fun as hell to use

  This and "The Hammer of Hewg - Hammer" do increased stun damage, more than their actual weapon class. This one pretty much hits like an ultra greatsword or even the golem halebard, while Hammer does almost the same stun with light hits, but does colossal weapon stun damage with charged R2, which is almost a cheese strat for Radagon, but not Elden Beast. Spread the word, these 2 weapons slap supremely hard.

  Such a ****-punch that the misbegotten warriors also drop Old Fangs. Was so excited to see those little blue lightstreaks after an hour of farming only to find out I got shafted the literal next second.

  Using it blood-infused with poisonous mist ash of war on my 66 str build. Blood/poison infusion loses just about 50-ish AR vs. heavy. The exultation talismans kick up my AR from 650~ to 900+ when both are active.
  
  If you have no space for the exultation talismans, cold infusion is really good and beats heavy easily, especially when frostbite procs.

  Really want this sword before late game so farming in Leyndell with my level 65 coop character. At 188discovery in two hours I got 6x Old Fangs and no sword. Drop rate of Old Fangs is 2.5% and sword is 4% …lol
  
  I’ve done some solid farming including the Haligtree Greatshield and Cleanrot spear, but man, getting this sword is starting to feel like work.
  
  Hopefully the 2nd one comes easier

  Nice thing about this Greatsword, is that it doesn't lose much physical attack power, even when infused with Cold/Poison/Blood.

  If you've already triggered the ashen capital, just farm the warrior near the Haligtree Town Plaza SoG. No crowds of enemies to get by and the only one in the way can be killed from behind through the wall. There's also virtually no risk of falling off either. The one by the talisman is way too annoying to farm.

  farmed the haligtree one using stone of gurranq incantation from the bridge. two stones staggered it for me and i'd wait a sec to throw my third because if i did it right away he'd fall off the cliff. i actually had to farm for like 5 mins for this because he dropped it right away but then i watched his body fall into the sea :(

  Can farm this very easily in the Haligtree with Sacred Relic Sword. Wave of gold reaches it from the doorway and stuns it.

  Definitely drops from the Leonine Misbegotten on the snowy area, although very long run to the location and drop rate. took me about 3 hours with 118 discovery.
  Farmed the one above but no such luck. interested to see if anyone has data mined the drop rate.

  Got two of them within a couple dozen runs to the one by Haligtree Town Plaza site of grace. Even on PS4 runs took less than a minute with load times/run back. Much quicker than running to the pair on the way to Forbidden Lands.

  I’ve been curious about which Cold-infused heavy weapons have the damage in a Strength build, just out of curiosity about if any of them are better Cold with the Frostbite damage boost than Heavy (at least vs tanky enemies who aren’t immune). Jury’s out on that but I have confirmed that this is the best in the Greatsword class. The Gargoyle’s Greatsword has higher Cold Strength scaling but this weapon wins out from higher base damage. Note that lots of weapons have qualityish scaling in Cold, so it’s really a small minority of weapons that have seriously good Strength scaling in Cold.

  When you reach Leyndell with two great runes in hand, with some luck and/or grindy farming, you too can own a very slightly improved version of the bastard sword you can buy a few minutes after starting the game

  For anyone looking for a relatively easy farm: If you're looking to use the Iron Greatsword, it's probably cause of it's excellent Strength scaling; meaning you're probably running a Strength build that can easily equip a Greatshield. The vast majority of the attacks of the red-mane Misbegotten are one-handed sword swings that bounce off of Greatshields. So just hide behind your shield, punish with a Guard-Counter (3 greatsword counters will stance break) until you win.
  
  Start off at the East Capitol Rampart site of grace (Boc the Seamster's 6th location), head west outside and take the shortcut lift down to the ground level, and be sure to send the lift back up as you exit to save time on your next run. Looping around to head east out into the ashen courtyard, kill the Misbegotten on the path towards the stairs. Go up the stairs until until the left-side rails end and you can climb up the hill. Kill the 2nd Misebegotten hidden up there, then use a Longbow to draw the red-man Misebegotten away from the rest of the mobs off to the south east. After the fight, head south west and jump down to the stairs and over the far rails. Follow the edge of the water by hugging the right side rails while heading further south, until the path dead-ends. Look left, and again use your Longbow to draw the 2nd red-mane Misebegotten into a fight. Finish up your murder, and fast travel back to the site of grace to start all over again. With just a Silver Scarab Talisman (185 Discovery), it took me all of 20 minutes to get a pair of Iron Greatswords.

  This thing have an atrocious amount of AR on magic infusion, even if it is split dmg. At 75 int and with no buff, this thing can hit
  for 801 raw AR, much harder than the Darkmoon Greatsword on the same stat improvement.
