Melee Users
Jori, Elder Inquisitor can be found guarding the entrance to the Abyssal Woods, fought at the end of the Darklight Catacombs. From the Site of Grace, make your way through the catacombs and through the mist to the boss' arena. This boss doesn't move fast at all and deals Piercing Damage and holy damage. Jori will cast spells most of the time unless you are fighting at close-range, then they will start to use their staff-spear to attack you.
Jori will raise their staff and it will glow and cast out multiple holy crescents that will home in on you, this can be indicated by the small glow on the tip of the staff. You will need to dodge forward if you want to gain up to him or sideways and use the environment to block the spells so you can avoid them overall. Another spell is Golden Arcs, this is where they raise the staff but send out only three crescents in the direction of a cone towards you, this attack can be telegraphed when he slowly swings his staff from one side to the other when casting the spell. You can easily dodge to the sides to avoid it or forward if you want to get closer to him. Their next spell attack is Giant Golden Arc, which sends out a much larger crescent toward you, this attack can be telegraphed when they swing their staff towards themself to send out the spell. You can perform a perfectly timed dodge roll forward to avoid receiving damage. Jori's last spell attack is Spira, they can summon glowing spirals from the ground where you're standing that will deal damage, this attack can be telegraphed when Jori holds their staff up with both hands. You will have to keep running or dodging away from these circles to avoid receiving damage.
The rest of their attack include summoning other Inquisitors to help them in combat. During this period, you may take cover behind gravestones, especially when you see the spinning Fat Inquisitor coming up your way. These structures will cover you from their spells, and allow you to lure the summons to your side. You can take out the summons first, especially the Fat Inquisitor, and then, you can focus on Jori afterward.
Jori has a few melee attacks they perform with the staff, one of which is a simple swing; they will raise the staff and then perform a sweep. This attack can be telegraphed when they turn their body to the right, exposing their back. You will need to time your dodge to the right to avoid receiving damage as well as attacking them. Their next melee attack is Staff Stab, this attack can be indicated when they bring the staff back while facing you before thrusting. You can dodge to either side to avoid this attack and attack when you can. Once Jori, Elder Inquisitor is defeated, they will drop 260,000 Runes and a Barbed Staff-Spear.
Magic and Ranged Users
If you keep your distance, they'll stay back. With enough room, all of their ranged attacks are not difficult to roll through or run from. The gravestones and trees will block the projectiles.
For ranged, the summons are the real difficulty. You could simply ignore them, but it is a test of patience to keep clearing them out just for another group to be summoned. Spirit Ashes is very helpful for drawing attention away.

Greatstaff of Jori, elder inquisitor. The tip bristles with golden barbs symbolic of the inquisition's torture, allowing one to wield the staff as a greatspear. Attacks deal holy damage, and potency increases with faith.
Golden Horn Tender
Old currency used by hornsent made by coating spiral horns with gold.
Boosts the amount of runes obtained from defeating enemies for a certain duration. Can also be sold for a high price.
Once bestowed upon inquisitors as an honor.
Inquisitor Ashes
Ashen remains in which spirits yet dwell. Use to summon the spirits of two hornsent inquisitors. The inquisitor hags wield barbed candlesticks. One of the inquisitors casts a tower hex to heal HP, while the hex of the other boosts her own attack power. Inquisitions often perplexed the minds of the uninitiated, and so seniority was viewed as an asset.
Map: Abyss
Map of the abyss at the east of the Gravesite Plain. A thick forest sprawls at the depths of the ravine that is untouched even by sunlight. Known as the sanctum of Sage Midra, and is a region forbidden by the hornsent.

Fights like this really make it evident that whoever programmed the summon ash AI... needs to find a different profession. It's just so, so bad lol

This is probably the worst fight in fromsoftware history, at least the bed of chaos is comically bad

One of the few fights where I haven't feel bad for summoning. Pummeled the crap out of it with Mimic Tear, using ice morningstars (Wild Strike)
- Anonymous
This guy can seriously get bent. Try to cast spells at him, he’ll do it faster. Try to rush him, he’ll summon his fat friend to smash you into the ground like a cartoon character. Even when you manage to break his poise, one of his damn summons will start attacking you before you can get the visceral off.
- Anonymous
Nice ideas in this fight, but I feel cheated learning that backstabs are unsafe when the big boy is around, because his hitbox will be directly on top of you afterwards. Why teach us to backstab, then punish us for implementing them? Other than that and his tendency to spam keep-away attacks without some sort of "ok, here's an easy move now" mechanic, I no longer hate this boss. Learning that the small mobs die in a single hit (even a dart) was cool, and the fight is well scaled. Overall one of the better "just run at him and pray" bosses with lots of solutions.

Who is more annoying? That Ancient Dragon in Jagged Peak or this spam mage simulator?

F**k this guy and his overclocked and over tuned Spira attack, this guy one shoted me with that bullshit attack right as i came in, no warning or any tell, just started to come through the fog wall and this guy is already spamming the attack so i was instantly caught it in, doesn't matter i had 60 vigor or had a 133 poise or even 90 holy negation, just stunlocked me to death. Fromsoft please for the love of holy, please nerf this guys attacks or the Spira attack.

This is the one boss I truly dislike in the game. Thank god it's only one though, I like pretty much all others.

I see why the range and spam make this boss annoying for some, but I feel the little interactions make Jori a well fleshed out boss and fun puzzle to strategize for. I spent a lot of time trying to make incants work, but unfortunately quickstep and backstab was by far the most effective.
The arena is perfect for the fight. Jori teleports behind tombstones for cover and can ambush you if you miss him while scanning the arena. If you’re not prepared to deal with summons, he can punish aggression and box you in. You can also use the tombstones to protect from his golden arcs and buff or fire long range spells (excellent use of CRUCIBLE BLOOM early fight). The tree on the right has a divet you can retreat to for cover.
CRUCIBLE THORNS has a niche use here to keep momentum and quickly take out the priests with one tic. I kept it ready with quickstep on a dagger and endure on perfume. PERFUMES running heavy can KO priests on both sides of you and the final hit damages Jori if you play aggressively and position well.
The big guys are annoying, and I don’t know how to deal with their tornado. Maybe a big attack like Dragon Maw can stop it? In a fight where you’re locking on to keep up with ranged attacks or to backstab, they’re great summons which Jori uses to trick your lock-on off him. Their quick belly push can knock you off course or corner you with their body against tombstones.
Jori’s light beams provide an opportunity to endure+ big hit or aggress and backstab, but they can punish a whiff.
This is the first time I had to build defensively and the first time I used livers for my body buff. The fight rewards aggression by ignoring summons during backstab invincibility. Stacking holy defense lets you ignore minor attack damage as you run in for the backstab.
If you’re having trouble with the fight, try fishing for backstabs. The summons and range feel intentionally designed to overwhelm you if you’re playing differently. Figuring that out was fun, and I appreciate the choice to make one combat style the best solution to an encounter. Feels inspired by PVP ganks in the best way. 10/10

Try to keep moving otehrwise you will get hit. I had to rush and attack nonstop and couldnt even summon mimic. Tried to use elenors blade but he kept teleport and spamming with his minions. Had to pull out the cheese scavenger + bandit and seppuku + buffs. Bleeding causes him to get sort of stunned.
- Anonymous
I really despise when they break their own mechanics just for certain encounters. Why do this? His stupid spells can stun lock you, regardless of poise.... but only for actions, like attacking, item use, healing and not for moving. So you can move but try to you know actually fight and it's stun lock city.

Triple rings of light worked great here. Takes out all the ads with 1 cast.

This boss and entire dungeon was so bad. Just entire thing is cheese. I could list 50 cheeseball ways the devs used to kill you off where only dying 20 times or following the wiki word for word could you survive. The whole dungeon was an ambush. I love true game difficulty, not cheeseball at every turn.

I thought they learned their lesson back when they made Elana that bosses who constantly teleport, projectile spam and summon minions, ESPECIALLY huge beefy mini bosses aren’t fun to fight in any way? Guess not?

fat guy is horrible design but the fallingstar beast is still the worst boss ive ever seen

I just beat him with martial arts hand-to-hand for around 40s secs, he spam so I spam back, it's only fair that way lol. But it took me several tries to get the perfect shot for youtube because his RNG sometimes sucks. You need to get him spamming the rings initially so you can get 1 free backstab at the beginning of the fight (he will be busy spamming the ground spirals magic when u get to him). If he started first with ground spirals then it's going to be harder to backstab him because he will be aware when you finally stand next to him. After the backstab, he will teleport away (be careful of the bubble explosion), chase him and beat him down like a pup. I got 18K damage in a row before his stance broke. RIP.

Competes with Putrescent Knight as the most janky bullshit fight in the DLC. What an honour.

I think getting rectal cancer would be a more enjoyable experience then ever fighting this boss again. Which sucks because an actually good and interesting boss is hidden behind this garbage and one of the most boring areas in the game

Found this boss far too easy in my first play through with my meta rl125 strength build. Was a difficult and fun fight with my low level character though(rl35 +5/2 weapons). There are a few smaller bosses in DLC where they’re oddly far more balanced towards lower level/upgrade, while being complete pushovers regardless of scadu if you’re the normal rl100+ with max weapons expected for DLC.

i wasn't able to multiplayer this guy. Is this because not many people are here when trying?
- Anonymous
Honestly...a pretty dull fight. Spam right off the bat upon entering the boss room, super easy to beat without trying hard especially when Jori's own AI can get himself pinned against a wall. Legit had him in my run vanish and appear against a wall...legit had the Greatshield Squad pinning him to it while I was able to just free swing on him.

I think Jori might be the best "gank fight" FromSoft has created so far. Most of them tend to feel rushed in design or unfair/annoying, but Jori feels very well paced, not overly chaotic. Jori themself could maybe have a tad more health, but other than that I liked the fight. Aside from the silly initial influencer backlash at the DLC difficulty, yet another instance FromSoft just getting better and better, refining the formula.

Omenkiller Rollo (+9, blessing 8) did him solo for my RL 15 run. I just helped him with one Cursed-Blood Pot and some Volcano Pots. However, I had to be moving around and screaming in horror, so these Fat Ones were busy trying to oneshot me.

If you pay attention, his arena seems like the one we fight the crystal sages in ds3

Having to deal with his summons is honestly not that bad, but whoever gave him that rapid-fire projectile attack can go to hell

Meteoric ore sword makes this guy pretty fun. Gravitas defeats his summons and the hit speed is just right for his timings

actual dogshit. worst and least fun boss in the entire game by FAR. the entire second phase is just “let’s see how many summons you can dodge through while i spam projectiles at you and teleport whenever you get close”. fromsoft really let us down with this one considering that most other dlc bosses are amazing and even though they are difficult they are still fair and fun to do (i have fought this guy on 3 different playthroughs and not once was i ever enjoying fighting him)

Off to the can with you!

Man this fight becomes so fun and easy when u realize u can backstab Jori. Just helped a host who was probably stuck (5 scooby snacks lol) and he was so happy I showed him this boss was actually easy and we both took turns at critting it haha it was funny. The golden effects and arena are also very cool imo

You remember the undead congregation down in the church in Brightstone Tselsora in DS2?
This guy reminds me of them, except he's got ghosts instead of zombies.
8/10 cool theme

Imo Pinwheel 3 / Fool's Idol 4 is a nice change of pace from all the epic roll souls prepare to die fights in SotE. Sometimes an honest B-tier boss is just what the game needs.

Nice theme btw. Messmer best boss of SOTE

It's frustrating that the character who held the entire location and its inhabitants in check, along with Midra (whom he seemingly cursed himself), turns out to be much weaker than Midra, rather than at least being close in strength. I understand that this is related to game design and the logical progression of difficulty, but still... The backstabs were unnecessary, no respect for the character.
I’ll be using his staff in PvP to let everyone know that messing with the Inquisition is no joke, especially when the Inquisitor knows how to roll...
- Anonymous
Faith based version of Rennala (sorceress queen, not Carian Knight for people who confuse them).
So be ready to spam of projectiles and summons and act accordingly - bring AoE spells / ashes to hit both her(him?) and the summons, consider using Carian Retailation / Erdtree Retailation / Eternal Darkness and rush / backstab the boss if possible.

I just ran my dex melee build straight at his ass. Buffed up, I smacked him around, and when he teleported, just beelined for him again. Nearly died but got him on the 3rd attempt.
- Anonymous
Huh? So this is how the other bosses feel when you summon spirit ashes and spam long ranged magic at them.

Gotta give them hornsent credit for gatekeeping the Abyssal Forest while knowing well about dangers of aging untouchables and madness that inhabit it. Jori stands right next to the entrance and it's just wide open

True lore question: is he he or she? You would think Jori is male but the looks are similar to lesser inquisitor HAGS, also female. WHAT GENDER IT IS MAY I GOON OR NO

Another gimmick damage check. There is no skill expression, only DPS.
Why isn't this just a mob?

EXTREMELY inconsistent boss. Sometime this is supremely easy, sometimes it's nothing but cheese. So yeah, pretty badly designed to be honest.
- Anonymous
Personally I enjoyed this fight, except for the multiple summons. The fat one was fair. I liked the golden effects, the ruined arena, and the whole eerie vibe to it. I think Jori (probably a female) is the one who punished Midra for his sin. Tip for fighting: she can be backstabbed. Fun fight

this is such a stupid quantum fight at low level. he may start by casting spira (preventing spirit summon at the start), or he may not. His wide arc may have a ridiculous hitbox, it may not. His arc spam may rollcatch you, it may not. His regular stab may completely miss you, it may not. You may backstab him during his teleport, or you may not. His teleport blast range may hit you a full roll's distance away, it may not. When he summons the boys, it may be impossible to avoid the arc spam + obesity tornado, it may not. The actual outcome depends on the observer. I did notice the guy has a ridiculously long neck. Are they albinaurics or were the 1st gen albis based on these guys?
- Anonymous
Fun fact: There’s leaked art of a remembrance for Jori, meaning he was originally intended to be a remembrance boss. Likely they cut it because they didn’t think he was worthy of a remembrance, or maybe they were going to put more effort in but ran out of time. Im happy they removed it, mainly because it would’ve given the DLC a very bad look if they were willing to give a catacomb boss a remembrance.

I got 520.000 runes when defeating him this morning (2x "the default amount"). Is this a glitch after the latest update or is there another explanation for this?
Using Exzyke's Decay with my Mimic Tear was the only reason I was able to beat this guy with my faith character. I beat him within a couple tries with my strength character and I didn't even know he could be backstabbed.

Fighting this guy in multiplayer is laughable. You can just chain backstab him until he's dead.
Just beat this guy on NG+7 after about 12 tries. Imo, this is terrible and unfair boss design. More than once the fat summon would appear behind me and hit me without warning. Getting stuck on gravestones and instantly blasted to death happened a couple times as well.
Here's my tips for beating him. I'm using a lvl 125 Dex build, but this will literally work with any build as long as you can use Miseracorde:
1. The best gear is Miseracorde, a shield with Carian Retaliation on it (Erdtree Greatshield would work too), Dagger Talisman, and Holy damage negation.
2. Carian Retaliation counters his wide arc spell and the quick 3 arc spell he uses up close. Sometimes you can outright parry the wide arc spell or his staff hits, but don't count on it in the latter half of the fight.
3. You have to roll the fat summon's butt stomp.
4. Everything else can simply be strafed! This includes the fat summon's whirly move and Jori's multi-arc channeled move.
5. Besides the little bit from Carian Retaliation, my damage exclusively came from back stabs. When Jori uses his whirlwind-under-your-feet move, you just go around him and backstab. In the first half of fight you can do the same against his multi-arc channeled move too, but that becomes difficult in the second half of the fight.
6. Most of the fight is spent just strafing and waiting for an opportunity to punish him.

Just beat him on NG+7 (my first DLC playthrough). This is terrible boss design. A couple times I got stuck on a tombstone and died, and more than once the fat summon would hit me from behind without notice. That said, here's some tips:
1. I used Carian Retaliation on a shield. This is mainly to counter his large, wide arc and his up close 3 arc spells (but not his multi-arc channeled spell). Erdtree Greatshield and similar options will help in a similar way. If you want to keep it simple you can just roll these moves too.
2. I dodge rolled the fat summon's butt stomp move.
3. Everything else, from range, can simply be strafed. This includes the fat summon's roly poly whirlwind move.
4. The best move to see is the one that summons wind under your feet. You can simply walk behind Jori and get a critical hit. Sometimes you can do it with his multi-arc channeled move too.
5. Speaking of critical hits: all my damage was done from crits and Carian Retaliation. Most of the fight I just spent strafing and waiting for him to do one of his punishable moves. Sometimes you can also parry his staff swings.
6. Gear with Miseracorde, a shield with Carian Retaliation, Holy damage negation, and Dagger Talisman.

I wish we could get the horned veil he and the other inquisitors wear. Really want to copy their aesthetic on a character. :(
had to run through the entire dungeon again because I had to reallocate my flasks at the site of grace because I needed more heal flasks to beat this mf
