Level in Elden Ring is an overall representation of your character's collective attributes and abilities. Stats define the strengths and weaknesses of your character, as well as their ability to wield armaments and magic. There are eight (8) attributes that the player can increase by acquiring and spending Runes. For every point an attribute is raised the player's overall level increases.

How to Level Up in Elden Ring

Before encountering Melina, you are maidenless. She offers a deal to play the role of a maiden for you, beseeching you to collect Runes so that she may convert them into power for you. Accepting her offer unlocks the ability to level up at any available Site of Grace.

Leveling up requires spending Runes, the universal currency of Elden Ring. Runes are acquired by defeating Enemies, conquering Bosses, and exploring The Lands Between. Be warned that dying will drop all of your currently held runes. They can be retrieved by returning to the site of your death. However, dying once more before retrieving your lost runes will cause you to lose them forever.

At the leveling menu, your current Level, Runes Held and Runes Needed are displayed at the top left while your attributes are displayed at the bottom left.

After spending runes to raise an attribute, its effects are represented by blue or red values, increases and decreases respectively, in the Base Stats, Attack Power, Defense Power, or Body categories.

Raising your level will also gradually increase your overall defensive stats, in addition to the bonuses provided by the stats you're increasing.

Physical Defense (and VS Slash/Strike/Pierce Defense), Magic Defense, Fire Defense, Lightning Defense, Holy Defense:
- +0.4 Defense per Level from Level 1 to 71
- +1 Defense per Level from Level 72 to 91
- +0.21 Defense per Level from Level 92 to 161
- +0.03 Defense per Level from Level 162 to 713
Immunity, Robustness, Focus, Vitality:
- +0.2 Resistance per Level from Level 1 to 71
- +1 Resistance per Level from Level 72 to 111
- +0.3 Resistances per Level from Level 112 to 161
- +0.03 Resistances per Level from Level 162 to 713

FARMING SPOTS

EARLYGAME (1 - 35):

When the Player starts the game, he can use the Gatefront (Grace) or Agheel Lake North (Grace) to farm the Soldiers in Gatefront Ruins. Since Spirits can be summoned, it is a great place for Starters to farm experience and level up. One Soldier gives 64 Runes, one Wolf 66 Runes. One Run gives 1,224 Runes (with the Godrick Knight killed).
After defeating Margit The Fell Omen, Player can use the Limgrave Tower Bridge (Grace) to farm the 3 Golems along the bridge, each Golem will give about 1,000 Runes, Player can earn just over 3,000 Runes per run.
Riding on Torrent and running through the map and avoiding enemies, players will be able to make it to Impassable Greatbridge (Grace) in Caelid. Here a group of NPC's are fighting, you can jump onto the cliff to the West side and stand back and let them kill each other. Earns approx. 4,000 Runes per run. If going at the start of the game, the player will be at risk of one hit kills so better to sit back. It can take a few minutes for each run.
Another farm location can also be found in Caelid, much closer to the border with Limgrave. It should be done while riding Torrent. Starting at Rotview Balcony (Grace), follow the road a very short way North East (a Minor Erdtree will be on your left). You will see a group of Putrid Corpses standing still. Using Rock Sling deals considerable damage to most of the group, and on being attacked they will move closer together, making it more effective. With some practice, the whole group can be dealt with in around 30 seconds. This farm earns around between 1,500-3,000 Runes (some are worth 500 Runes while others are worth 100 Runes and appear to spawn at random). Do not be tempted to use melee until only one or two remain as they can grab you and you can be quickly overwhelmed. Watch out if one moves ahead of the group, as they will run at you. Although this method carries some risk, it may be useful for players who don't want to venture further into Caelid, particularly if they have access to AoE spells or incantations. An additional benefit is this provides a reasonably safe way to practice using spells, to get a better idea of their range and mechanics.

In the same location, there is a monstrous crow visible from the wooden balcony. Walking up to the edge will reveal a second crow lower down, in range of rock sling. It will be unable to get up to you, simply falling out of the tree where it is still in range. This will add an additional 1,700 Runes to the run.

MIDGAME (35 - 75):

At Lenne's Rise (Grace) [Map Link] the player can go down the slope. A Ball will spawn and try to smash the player. If the player turns right, dodges the Ball and lets the ball fall down the cliff, the player earns 1,952 Runes. At night this can rarely increase to over 9,000 Runes. One run needs around 27 seconds. Since the player doesn't have to fight this is a good farm spot. The player needs to look at the Ball going down the cliff to actually earn the experience. Continue down the path a short way for another identical ball, just under an overhanging tree.
After defeating Starscourge Radahn, search for the War-Dead Catacombs in the northwest corner of the arena. The first room from the Site of Grace is a brawl between spectral Radahn Soldiers and Cleanrot Knights. Stand close enough so that you can watch them deplete each others' health bars, but not close enough for the combatants to notice you, and you can reap the rewards as they defeat each other. These enemies will respawn indefinitely and will continuously fight each other, but this farm may require resetting if some of them fall to the lower floor and no longer pursue the opposing faction.

LATEGAME: (75+):

At Dragonbarrow Fork (Grace) [Map Link] the player can go up the slope and fight 16 poisoned Guardians. Each give 1,130 Runes, but they have around 980 HP. If the player don't have the necessary Damage this Farmspot is not good. One Run gives 18,122 Runes.
At Prayer Room (Grace) around the base of the Haligtree, the player can head out the northern opening to clear out several easy knights around the wall. Fast travel back to prayer room before reaching the room toward the bottom with the two, large, more difficult knights. Over 30,000 Runes per run.
In Mohwgwyn Palace, at Palace Approach Ledge-Road (Grace), there are two good options.
- Bird Option. This is actually a Blistered Giant Crow - Stand on the cliffside and shoot the Bird down below that is walking back and forth by the tree. It works best if the arrow hits the Bird when it has its back towards the player. It will run towards the Player and fall down off cliff, earning 11,038 Runes (without the Golden Scarab or Gold-Pickled Fowls Foot). Around 3 to 4 Runs are possible in one Minute. Once the player has figured the perfect spot on the cliff, it is easy to farm.
- Albinaurics. There are many of these located here, as well as more down the path. You can either wade in killing them, or if the player has finished the game, he/she can just use the Sacred Relic Sword with the Wave of Gold skill to clear all the enemies in front of the Grace. You can also safely take them out using ranged weapons or spells from above if you would rather do it that way, get there by jumping up on the cliff using the horse.
Mid-Late game. ~5,000 Runes every 30 seconds (lvl 80) in Leyndell. From the Lower Capital Church SoG, kill the Omensmirk right outside. Then run straight down into the sewers, go left & then right and kill the Broken Statue at the end (ignore all rats and hands along the way).

RUNE "BOUNTIES"

These locations or enemies yield an abundance of runes with minimal investment but can only be collected once.

At Fort Faroth (Grace) there is a Dragon which can be killed for 75,000 Runes (attacking it's tail, since it can not defend itself).
At Lenne's Rise (Grace) the player can go north and let the Night Cavalry (only there at night) chase the Player. When the player runs up the slope and turns left and goes on, the Night Cavalry goes back to its original position but dies somehow. (Speculative - this is most likely caused by the countless poison traps on the hill. Running over as many of them as possible increases the odds of this method working. If you go back down the hill, you'll see the Night Cavalry's HP is slowly decreasing. As this boss will despawn when morning comes and this method takes a reasonable amount of time, you may wish to engage the Knight cavalry once its HP has been lowered, making for a considerably less time consuming fight.) The reward for killing the Knight Cavalry is 42,000 Runes .

Level Rune Cost Calculation in Elden Ring

The amount of Runes required to level up is calculated using the following formulas:
- x = ((Lvl+81)-92)*0.02
  - x cannot be below 0, so change it to 0 if the formula resolves to below 0
- Rune Cost = ((x+0.1)*((Lvl+81)^2))+1
- The resulting number is always rounded down
The highest level possible is a grand total of 713, achievable when all eight attributes are capped at 99 points. This would require 1,692,566,842 Runes in total.
The max number of runes that can be held is 999,999,999.

  wretch lvl 31 compared to confessor lvl 31 gains alot less runes from same enemies they encounter and its funny! Tested it out just now, wretch lvl 31 gain 40 runes from land octopus and confessor lvl 31 gets 380 runes... that mean that no matter what class u make, game counts you to be lvl 1, no matter of the char level, so wretch lvl 31 is actually 41 compared with confessor

  Yeah, I see only a few mentions of the liturgical down cliff jump. It feels a bit like an exploit, but it consistently nets 105k runes every 3 minutes. You can grind about 2 million per hour. I tried it yesterday and it still worked, I'm actually a bit surprised they haven't fixed this.
  
  Quick Walkthrough: Go to Ordina Liturgical Town (late game, consecrated snowfields). After lighting all the towers, it opens the path that leads out the end of the cliff. When riding torrent, run and jump to get maximum distance. If you do it wrong you'll die within a few seconds; if you do it right you'll fall for a long while. Make sure you attack every few seconds to prevent the game from registering you as falling to your death, else it will fall-death you. You will fall for approximately 2 minutes, clipping through the bottom of the cliff then through the water then falling until the atmosphere around you becomes pretty static. The first time you do it, it will feel like FOREVER, but keep waiting (and keep attacking). At some point what will happen is that the world above you (you can't see it with locked camera angle) will disappear and it will cause every enemy within a certain range on the consecrated snowfields to fall and die; netting you all of the runes (approx 105k). At this point, you can go to your map and fast-travel back to the Ordina, rinse and repeat.
  
  You can play a phone game or something while you're doing it too, since most of the time you're just passively pushing attack to keep from it registering fall-death.

  Honestly, PvP and coop feel much better at RL 200 than at the crappy 120/125/150 meta the old DS3 nostalgic gatekeepers have been trying to force upon the community since release.

  Early game:
  - Literally at rlvl1 from The First Step look North-East (you don't need to look at your map) and spot the Divine Tower of Caelid in the distance. Use it as your guide because that is where you are headed. Just make sure to stop at a few graces to trigger Melina's appearance and obtain Torrent.
  - As you head in that general direction preferably stop the Third Church of Marika. Continue up the path above the church where you'll find a series of spiritsprings to make your journey a little easier (or just go up the path but the spirit spiritspprings are literally right there). You'll lose sight of the tower because terrain will block the view, just use the Minor Erdtree as your guide until you can see the tower again.
  - You will then see another church, do not go to it as an invader will spawn nearby it and Torrent your horse will become disabled. Just ignore the invader and sprint towards the small charred wall towards your right and go over it. You now have a very clear view of the tower and there is a grace right ahead, activate it and get back on your horse and keep moving.
  - You'll soon find yourself in Dragonbarrow West and find another grace, activate it and keep moving.
  - Using your horse, scale the tower and ignore any enemies present and of course you'll need to dismount whenever you need go up the many series of ladders. Make sure to explore the eastern side of the tower and obtain a Numen's Rune (worth 12500 runes) found on a corpse.
  - Once you get to the grace at the top of the tower rest at it and let Melina take you to the Roundtable Hold.
  - At the Roundtable Hold, consume your Numen's Rune and buy Rejection from Brother Corhyn, then buy Finger Seal from Twin Maiden Husks. Equip both and teleport to Divine Tower of Caeled: Center, site of grace.
  - Feel free to spend your remaining runes preferably on HP or however you see fit. You'll have 10,200 left, which is enough for 12 levels.
  - Your objective now is to open the door from the other side found as you go down the stairs of the tower. Ignore the two soldiers and scale down the tower until you reach lift gaurded by a soldier. This is where you'll use the Rejection incantation you bought early to push the soldier to fall to it's death. Alternatively you can use your starting classes Weapon Skill, such as Barbaric Roar part of the Club you start with as a Wretch. however doing this will most likely buy you a bit of time rather than push the soldier overboard. You could also do neither of this and just take your chances and run unto the lift, just be aware that the soldier will one shot you. You could also just buy the Heater Shield only from Twin Maiden Husks and aiming towards the soldier once you are on the lift.
  - After you go up the lift, scale the ladder and open the door.
  - Now comes the easy part: The reason you came to this tower is to farm the 2 soldiers guarding the door you just opened. From the Divine Tower of Caelid: Center, site of grace, sprint past the 2 guards and make your way towards the ladder behind the door you opened. Get on the ladder but stay at the top and just take a few steps down to put some distance away from the guards. The guards will either try to charge at your and fall to their deaths or try to scale down the ladder, which then you will punch them till they fall. About 90% of the time they will fall by trying to attack you.
  - When the guards die, they will net you 1194 runes each for a total of 2388 per run. Once they both fall, climb up and open your map and teleport back to the grace to repeat the process. Note that you don't have to wait for them to hit the ground, once you see them both go down climb up, open your map and get ready to teleport.
  - If they happen to kill you, your lost runes will spawn at the top of the ladder, so you'll just have to obtain them first right before getting on the ladder.
  - You can reach level 30 really fast doing this, past level 30 it becomes slightly more tedious to do and past level 40 it becomes more of a chore.
  - Take into account that this is also an easy way to procure runes for buying items and consumables. For example you can easily and quickly get a full inventory of standard arrows/bolts or a nice batch Kukri knives, buy some spells, incantations, buy out Twin Maiden Husks, etc.
  
  Mid to Late-Game:
  - Just use the Rejection incantation to push over the Oracle Envoy enemies at the first grace of the Haligtree. With Golden Scarab equiped, you gain roughly ~1950 runes from the small ones and ~3600 from the big ones. Killing the 3 small ones on the right side by jumping down the branch to the right of the grace (the branch where you first arrive) and then proceed down the main path killing another 3 on the left, jump down moving towards the a big one directly in the main path that heads down, kill it, then teleport back to the grace and this is perhaps the easiest farming method in the game. You do not have to fight anything, you are just pushing enemies over with the press of a button.
  - The 6 small ones combined will net you almost 12, 00 runes + 3600 from the big one for a roughly 15,500 runes per run. Each run should take about 45-55 seconds to complete (sometimes it takes a few button presses to push them over). You should be able to squeeze 11 runs within 10 minutes, so that's 11x15,500 = 170,500 runes acquired in just 10 minutes.

  Honestly if you want to grind levels to be overpowered, you might as well get the Elden Ring cheat engine and manually modify your runes acquisition rate. It won't ban you unlike giving yourself levels.

  like lvl 15 essentially.
  
  If you aren't able to defeat these enemies 1 by one by sneaking up on them you can try the following.
  
  step 1 - uninstall elden ring
  step 2 - sell your gaming rig
  step3 - take up another hobby.

  I'm confused on the max level of 713. I'm at 460 and i only need 84 levels for 99 mind, 83 levels for 99 intelligence and 71 levels for 99 faith. Everything else is level 99. With 460+83+84+71 = 698, where does the extra 15 levels go towards?

  Kill elder greyoll on horse right by his tail and right before he dies go to grace site reload and use his glitch he is there agian and u got 50k a run....easy fast power level i 100 or so or whatever you want. Just watch how to do his glitch its actually super easy i use uchigatana when i was doing it till.lvl 125 or so then i had fun clearing everything i could find on my bow toon

  People powerleveling to "prepate for DLC". DLC is more than likely going to be balanced around midgame, so bringing your level 600 character will spoil the fun.

  I see some people talking about the giant carriage rune farm. Listen I used to do this to farm for runes. Here's some advice, don't. Just take the teleporter behind the third church of Marika and ride on torrent for like 2 minutes to get to Lenne's rise and do the boulder farming method. If you don't know what that is look it up one the first go you get 12,000 runes and after that you get nearly 2,000 runes and it takes less than 30 seconds.

  The 2 giants pulling the Limgrave caravan make for an easy 2000 runes if you start from the Mistwood Outskirts site of grace - between the grace site and the caravan, there's a grand total of 1 Kaiden sellsword on the road. You can easily avoid him by going to the left of the area he patrols since there's a ridge of rocks obscuring his line of sight in-between you and the road.
  
  When you get to the giants, just pelt them with ranged attacks. The whole entourage supposedly guarding the caravan is behind it, and the giants themselves can only use stomps to ward off melee attackers, so staying a few meters in front of them = they can't do anything, and the rest of the caravan is too far away to notice you. One one of them dies, the whole thing stops moving completely, making the other one even easier.
  
  Even at lv1 and with no upgraded equipment, it takes no more than 5 minutes to kill both of them. One of the easiest as well as safest options I've found for the very start of the game so far.

  Found an easy farming spot for the very beginning of the game (which I haven't seen mentioned anywhere):
  
  Between the Mistwood Outskirts site of grace and the 2 giants pulling the Limgrave caravan, there is a grand total of 1 Kaiden sellsword in the way. You can easily avoid him by going left of the part of the road he's on (hiding behind the ridge of rocks on that side). When back on the road, just ride up to the giants and pepper them with whatever ranged attacks you want - arrows, spells, anything will work.
  
  The giants can't chase you as they're stuck to the caravan, and can only defend themselves with foot stomps (hence ranged attacks). The rest of the caravan party is behind the caravan, and won't notice you unless you go within melee range of the giants, so you're completely safe just by standing a few meters away from them. They drop 1000 runes each.
  
  2000 free runes (more if you wait until you get the +5% night bonus and / or use a Gold Fowl Foot) in exchange for a grand total of about 2 minutes of "work", even at level 1 with un-upgraded equipment (find 3 glowing skulls and trade the runes you get from them with the nomadic merchant outside the seaside cave for the short bow if you have no ranged attacks to begin with). Rinse and repeat until bored and / or you have all the runes you need.

  In CS terms, the cost of leveling up is O(n^3), except for the first 11 levels, where it is O(n^2). Before I looked it up, I was pretty sure it was exponential, but it's more forgiving than that.

  Ng+7, the albinauric farm gives nearly 100k with rune boosting stuff and overkill. Nearly 1 million runes in about 5 min. 2nd easiest souls game to achieve max lvl, first being ds2 due to giant lord

  radogon only gives you half a million and to get to lvl 713 it takes 1,692,90,1
  runes so you have to get ng+7 which means you had to fight radogon 7 times
  and you had to fight the entire game without dieing 7 times in a row+ you need to trade for rune items

  My personal favorite mid-game farming spot are the Deeproot Depths. Spawn "Across the Roots" (site of grace) and kill all Broken Statue enemies who will be facing in opposite direction so they should be an easy kill. I think there are 7 statues that each give around 3500 runes (I've had yellow eyes drop me 17500 runes (!) and off course there is always gold pickled fowl foot) so it should fetch around 25000 runes in a few minutes. I know it might not be the best spot but i like it because it's fast, safe and I even find it peaceful when the mausoleum is done.

  I am level 148 and I use Fort Faroth lower level only.
  
  Over 9000 runes within 2 minutes when using spirit ashes and thunderbolt. Reset right out the door.
  
  Any time I get to 75000 runes I go here and get to 150k within like 10-15 minutes, level up and then return to game progression

  If you have access to an aoe spell like Cannon of Haima or Lightning Strike, you can get 25k runes a run starting from the Nokstella, Eternal City site of grace. Kill the nox on the stairs and AoE the slimes. Aoe the slimes in the adjacent room. Run across the bridge and juke the living ball. You can easily juke the ball by just sprinting to the stairs and jumping over the statues connected to it, and wait for the ball to leave (if you do it right it will actually kill itself). At the top of the stairs crouch walk into the cathedral. Slimes will fall from the ceiling about 7 times before a living ball drops as well. If you hit the pack with one AoE, it will chain react and kill everything. Each run takes about 2 minutes, and gives around 25k. I've only died once because I was alt tabbed waiting for the slimes to drop. It got me from like 71 to 81 in about 30 minutes.

  As a brand new player to fromsoft games I farmed the bird to get my vigor to 99 lol. Then practiced a few bosses as I could make alot of mistakes but learn WAY easier. Now I'm on my 2nd new game trying to beat the game under leveled to test myself. I will say it is much much more fun and rewarding to battle the bosses with skill and being on edge of your seat vs being overleveled and swatting them away in 30s because your strength or intelligence etc is maxed lol.

  More grinding numbers for anyone looking to go all the way to max for giggles. I haven't used Golden Pickled Fowl's Foot as I didn't want to farm the ingredients, though my estimates showed it would ultimately save time if you start early enough and were going all the way to max level (I was too far up to matter much when I checked).
  
  At the Palace Approach Ledge on max NG+ with the Golden Scarab and enough damage to make the Sacred Sword's Golden Wave do overkill damage for the bonus runes, you get 7506 runes per poor Albinauric. From the grace running forward to just behind the first Albinauric, cast a wave then run back. Should take 12-15 seconds per loop, but I'll say 15 for ease of calculating. Adding in some tests I've done accounting for the occasional glowing eyed Albinauric that pops up and you average roughly 101,000 runes per 15 seconds.
  
  That's 404,000 per minute. 1,000,000 per 2.5 minutes. 4,000,000 every 10 minutes. 24,000,000 per hour.
  
  As others have said, the halfway point rune-wise is level 592. To get from 592-713 will take approximately 35 hours at the above rate. So for anyone else actually trying this, pop on some music, a podcast, or tv show and be prepared to run off the cliff occasionally when you aren't paying enough attention.

  best way to start is to get the flail at the gatefront ruins, go to the third church of marika, behind it there is a teleporter, take it and go down past the bridge. when you see the minor erdtree go behind it to the spiritspring and go up, there is a fort up there, and a site of grace right infront of it, really close to that site of grace there is a giant dragon just laying there, use the flail to kill it, you can kill it pretty fast cuz it procs bleed, also there is a gold pickled fowl foot on a small hill close to the waypoint ruins next to the stick thingy sticking out of the ground with a few enemies around. the hill is on the way to the third to church of marika. pop the golden foot right before the dragon is about to die and you will get around 94.000 runes, that's an easy level 36 right at the start of the game

  I just did the math: The Sacred Relic Sword Mogwyn Palace Approach ledge road farming method on NG+3 with optimal buffs yields about 21 million runes per hour and costs 14-16 birdie feet. This was on PS5 where reloading after every wave was quite fast.

  I'm LV350 right now. Moghwyn "Palace approch" site of grace with sacred sword weapon art. Spawn at grace. Run to the rocky outcropping like 5 seconds north, hit r1, run back to site of grace and reload without even waiting to hear them die. On NG3 i make 100k every 20 ish seconds and can run this like 13 times before i have to re use the gold fowl foot. To grind for stuff for the gold feet use the cliff behind the dragon communion site of grace in caelid. Spawn there and summon torrent to jump through the south window quickly and kill the 3 birds with a single use of moghywns spear weapon art. Farm for the rest of the items for the gold feet by using the merchant shack in south west weeping penninsula. You can find an abundance of the golden fireflys in the lake up the hill (like 11-12) and theres the red berries you need all over the place here too. Use all this to become insanely powerful.

  With a max cap 0f 713, you would reach the halfway point in runes needed at level 592. That's how top-heavy the system is. Plus diminishing returns in attributes as you go up.

  another good rune farming spot is in Ordina, Liturgical Town, do a delayed sprinting double jump with your horse to the right of the portal that takes you to the Haligtree secret area and continuously swing your weapon while falling, after 41 weapon swings (i use Rivers of Blood Katana) you'll receive around 104K runes (with the golden scarab). then open the map travel to Ordina, Liturgical Town grace then just rinse and repeat

  What I do is go to the prayer room grace in haligtree, and I kill the cleanrot knight outside it, and then I make a run through the enemies until you can jump to the roof with the soldier and the scarab on it, and the cleanrot that’s inside the room behind the soldier will jump onto the beam and sometimes fall to its death. With the gold scarab talisman, I usually get anywhere between 70k-100k and up. Haven’t tried it with the gold pickled foot yet.

  Anyways a fun/engaging earlygame farm i like to do after clearing out all the major bosses in North Caelid is from Dragonbarrow West to Fort Faroth grace, run through and kill the baby dragons, they dont have breath attacks and if you attack their heads you get an easy stagger for massive damage, each dragon drops like 3.2k runes and are fun to kill, with most of my characters i've been able to kill one in less than a minute so its relatively fast. Its an easy and enjoyable farm

  The bird in the palace approach road 11k ,if the gold foot is use it goes to 14k and there's a chance to get 55k or 71k with the foot buff. If the bird doesn't fall use serpent arrows 2 are enough to poison and he will fall after a few seconds. Also try and aim between the two branches right when you see his knee shoot. I found this the most consistent.

  For lower level farming: spawn at the Warmasters Shack in Limgrave and just se (-182.34375 : 102.47656 approx) are 5 giants worth 1,000 xp each. At mid levels you can efficiently farm them all in under 3 mins with a claw to net 6500 runes. Once you get to a comfortable level, they are very easy to kill on horseback as you can effectively just stand between their legs and only move when they attack. They also sometimes glitch if you get them from the right angle and just stand there and do nothing while you wail on them.

  Ok, iliadz here. Without question the BEST farming is as follows, for 17K within about 30 seconds of each attempt, over and over as much as you want. And you DO NOT have to be a sorcerer, strong, etc. You will need a bow and arrow, and make sure you have the multipliers on otherwise it will only net 13K each time.
  Fast travel to Mohgwyn Palace at the Palace Approach Ledge-Road. Run to the first creature that is sitting with his head down, and look left to the distance. There will be a crazy looking flying dragon rooster thing. Hit him bow shot. I usually zoom in and if you aim around the middle branch or higher you will hit him. He will run at you, jump off the cliff, and die. Make sure you always go to the first creature to do this, otherwise, he will sometimes go left of the tree or not jump off. If he doesn't jump off, don't waste your time. Either way, once he runs head back to the fast travel. But don't do anything there, just choose LEAVE, and ... wash, rinse, repeat. It works really well. Again, if he does ANYTHING other than jump off, just go back to the fast travel and do it again, but ALWAYS go to the first creature, it's the best spot.

  At Deeproot Depths: Across the Roots there are two Broken Statues facing the other way that can both be killed in less than a minute before resting at the Site of Grace again. Certainly better than Lenne's Rise but far less accessible.

  A decent very early game farming spot is at the Lenne's Rise bonfire. There's a downhill section to the north where a ball will spawn (like the one's from Sen's Fortress) and if you evade it and make it go off the hill, the ball will "die" and you'll get 1950 runes. Each run takes around 30 seconds.

  Best spot I've found so far is in Leyndell, ~5k every 30 seconds (I'm level 80 using Giant Crusher+17 lol).
  
  From the Lower Capital Church SoG, run outside and kill the Omensmirk for 1507, then run straight down the ladder to the sewers, go left and then right (ignoring all rats and hands on the way) and kill the Broken Statue at the end of the tunnel for 3332. It takes me 30 seconds from the SoG to kill both enemies.

  Another fun midgame farming spot is between Farum Greatbridge and Lenne's Rise. Over the plains and down the hill to the east there are several Militia mobs. They deal lots of damage but are easy to pick of alone. One gives 1k runes for a total of 15k runes per run. Not as fast as the rolling ball but smashing those things is fun.

  Aka 23 and a half days of constant grind to hit Max level. The worst thing is, they've nerf'd exp gain at the farm spot with 1.04 so it's even worse than that. Yet the game doesn't offer any other alternatives to get Runes. I mean I'm sitting at level 300 that I did without constantly farming and have hit Joyrney 4...and I get about 1 million runes from Elden Beast... which is not even enough for a single point at this stage.
  
  So with the farming nerfs... what do they expect us to do to level? Because if you look at the math it's only a matter of time before you die twice and lose the runes before you even have enough for a single level?

  Best Farm Spot is roughly 6,000,000 (hitting the low end here not accounting for scarab or pickled) runes an hour.
  
  12 hours a day would be 72,000,000 a day.

  from level 280, getting an average of 80000 sous per run with scarab with a run taking 15 seconds, it should take around 24 hours to reach level 500

  Start at the East Capital Rampart Site of Grace. Go west through the doors and turn left. Kill the Oracle Envoys in your way (stay right on the balcony to avoid the big one up the stairs, which has a lot HP and is not worth it). Roll by the flames of the Broken Statue (stay near to the wall) and kill it from behind. Backstab and finish off the Page in the next room (for the runes, but mostly because these guys are SO annoying). Port back to the Site of grace and repeat. Run takes a little over a minute for me and nets a little under 5 k runes, this results in 300 k/h …

  For me a good farming spot is windmill village. As long as you have the glintstone arc sorcery you can do the first big group of insane women over and over. They give around 3500-4000 runes per run and the time is dependand on how well you can group them together.

  I'm pretty sure the formula y = 0.02x^3 + 3.06x^2 + 105.6x - 895 from DS3 doesn't apply here, if the data above is correct. Its off in very many levels, like the value for Level 203 would be 313,949(.88), but the real value is way higher (317,785)
  Or for Level 157, the level I'm currently at and therefore can confirm, the formula would give 168508, but the real value is 171,065. I have done some numerical analysis of the values above and the best fitting formula of degree 3 is 0.02x³ + 3.12x² + 111.784x - 787.
  It's not perfect, but up until level 323 the sum of all the errors is 235 runes (compared to thousands each level with the other formula), and for all but 2 levels the difference is only one rune.
