Summons spirit of Lhutel the Headless
|
Lhutel the Headless is a Legendary Spirit and Summon in Elden Ring. Summons an allied spirit version of an unmounted Mausoleum Knight.
Legendary ashen remains.
Use to summon the spirit of Lhutel the Headless.
Spirit of a headless knight who leads the mausoleum soldiers.
Wields a lance enrobed in Death and hurls spectral lances at foes.
Lhutel sacrificed her life so that in Death she could continue to protect a soulless demigod until their revival, earning her the hero's honor of Erdtree Burial.
Where to find Lhutel the Headless
- Dropped by the Cemetery Shade at the Tombsward Catacombs. Map Link
Elden Ring Lhutel the Headless Guide
- Ghost Glovewort is required to upgrade Lhutel the Headless.
- Lhutel will periodically teleport while in combat, allowing her to move around quickly, avoid being surrounded by enemies, and avoid large area of effect attacks from enemies.
- Strikes from her lance cause buildup of the death blight status on her target. However, the vast majority of enemies found in Elden Ring are immune to death blight. Also, one of the main enemy types not immune to death blight, that being NPC invaders, tend to only appear in areas where the player is not able to summon her or any other spirits via spirit ashes. (Note, as of 1.08 this may prove a bit more viable within the Caelid Coliseum wherein you can summon Lhutel or other Spirit Ashes to do battle versus other players.)
- Her heavy armor, greatshield, teleportation ability, mix of melee and ranged attacks, and immunity against all status effects (an ability shared with all other spirit ash spirits) allow her to work well alongside a variety of player builds as a "tank" or damage dealer. It should be noted that due to her slow attack frequency and teleporting around that she holds aggro very poorly.

Quick question: Why is this a named summon? I mean, like, every other named summon has something to set them apart (first omenkiller, closse friend of Radahn, captured Godefroy, saved Malenia...)) while she just did the samething as every other mauseloum soldier & knight. Is there something lot in translation or something?

I kid you not, i went here to see if she would be a good tank for me when i play a mage build, every thrid comment says "dont play as mage"
then i googled what would be a good summon for mage... AND THE FIRST THING THAT COMES ARE PEOPLE SAYING ITS LHUTEL AAAAAAAAAAA
- Anonymous
If you want a summon to do damage instead of keeping aggro, use this one. Would not recommend for mages, boss usually just ends up going for you.
- Anonymous
I'll get downvoted for saying this, but this is the most overrated spirit ash. It doesn't matter how tanky you are, if you can't hold aggro. Absolutely useless in the tree sentinel fight for example. I don't get the love for this ash.
- Anonymous
One of the few summons actually pretty effective for Malenia. Her ranged attacks and quick pokes mixed in with teleporting retreats helps mess with Malenias aggro and stops her from regening too much off your summons compared to most.
- Anonymous
YouTube: Luthel +10 almost killed Dragonic Tree Sentinel! Solo! All commentaries on this Page is garbage and lie! She is not tank, she is armored DD.
- Anonymous
You have to wonder why they bothered giving us a Death Blight summon if you can’t even use them against invaders or in pvp
- Anonymous
Dont even attempt to use her as a mage. Any boss fight 9/10 times you'll take aggro
Randomly teleporting is cool and all but its never what you need lol
- Anonymous
Ignore the people who don't understand how the game works. lhutel is a top 3 ash. Mimic tear reigns supreme but up to that endgame ash Luthel is probably a top 2. She works well with almost any build what sets her apart is she sticks around. Yes she teleports away but worst case you dodge and block while she attacks from behind and when the enemy switched targets you go ham on them.
- Anonymous
Lhutel's RNG can be divisive, either allowing her to phase out of boss AOE that would kill any other summon for you or randomly disappearing just when you needed her to tank most. If you want pure DPS there are better options, same with tanks, and nothing beats Mimic Tear.
But the Coliseum update at least makes her Deathblight relevant again, it sucked that she was one of the only status inflicting summons but Deathblight happens to be effective against NPCs you usually can't use spirit ashes against. She can be a lot scarier with a Deathblight focused PvP build.
- Anonymous
Constantly the one summon who lasts the longest she dosnt hold agro but damn can she finish the fight no other summon in the game just phase away from one shoting damage its like ultra instinct.

I really don't get the comments trashing Lhutel. Saying Lhutel is bad is like saying Latenna is bad. Just not the case.
- Anonymous
I take back what I said before: this is pretty good, but if you're a mage don't use her. She sucks at holding aggro.
- Anonymous
This spirit is trash.. I dont understand where you get that dmg% from, it is far from true.. It cant hold agro, it does low dmg. it has no propper function..

My glass character tried using a Dung +10 vs Astel and the only way I could get it to engage the boss is if I was within 10’ and any mistake and I was one shot. Dust off this one at +7 and it was easy. Lhutel was sticking and moving giving me all the time I needed and still had 85% health left at the end.
- Anonymous
For anyone who says that she sucks, your just wrong, there is a reason why so many good players say she's an S tier summon. Lhutel needs to be +9-10 to actually be viable, but that's also true for most of the other S tier summons. If you tried her below that level then you need to upgrade her and try again. The bottom line is that if you need more than what Lhutel offers it means that you're being carried. This isn't me trying to shame people, if you enjoy the game with another summon then you do you, but you're probably only doing around half the damage that's necessary to kill any of the bosses. Mimic and Tiche are objectively better summons in terms of damage output, but I try to never use them unless I feel that it's absolutely necessary, or I just hate a boss. Lhutel will chill out and chuck spears at a boss while you do all the hard work. If you need to heal, refill FP, or buff, she's got you for about 10-20 secs and she won't waste a quarter of her health while doing so. She's good because she makes things like setup and healing feel more leniant without making the game feel easy.

I maxed her out as soon as I could because everything else I had at the time didn't seem useful. She's helped through a lot of bosses, especially double bosses. She's why I even completed x2 gargoyles or x2 crucible, and many of the tree dragon things
I'm upgrading mimic or dung next after reading about them, but lhutel is a solid choice as long as she is upgraded.
Hmm, this ash performance can be quite inconsistent. On one hand, when aggressive, she deals a lot of damage while being very tanky. On the other hand, she abuses her teleportation too much, she teleports when getting attacked ok, but she teleports when side-stepping away from foes, she even teleports for no reason when I'm the one drawing aggro. This is particularly apparent when fighting bosses with human builds like Crucible Knight Duo.
I still keep her in inventory for situational use but I wouldn't place her at S tier for now.

Summoned her up against an abductor virgin and hid up on a high ledge. Took the virgin out no problemo

Been using her from day 1 when I got her, and not gonna lie Lhutel's been a lifesaver whenever she manages to draw aggro.
That said though, I feel like she's reaching the point where her performance is starting to dip. Any suggestions as to who to replace her with? The 2 Banished Bros? Or IDK.
Currently on a NG run, just arrived at Leyndell's outskirts area via the Dectus Lift (might do the Ravine path later).
- Anonymous
I got lhutel as soon as I learned she was a boss drop in the weeping peninsula. I read her wiki and I believed the hype, but I couldn't see why she's classed as the best after using her a few times. I didn't notice until I summoned her at the impassable bridge rune farming spot in caelid. that area has strong enemies all over the place, but she just wasn't very aggressive, she was just standing next to me doing absolutely f**k all, she was only going for enemies if I was pretty close them myself. once she did pull her finger out she was fine, she was hitting the radahn soldiers hard enough to kill them herself, she did a good job with the mounted knight patrolling and held her own against the T-rex dogs. I don't think she is as useless as a couple of comments here are making her out to be, but I don't think she deserves the rep for being the best ash summons.
Strong and tanky. Draws aggro. When attacked, often teleports away, completely resetting any aggro it has and dropping it back on you. Cool!
- Anonymous
what good is a tank summon if they are constantly teleporting away and drawing no aggro whatsoever
- Anonymous
Stuck with her and +9 this bae until I got Tiche. Was by my side for almost 80% of the game. She’s tanky, evasive and got range to go along with melee. She’s perfectly balanced, and if you need more than this then you’re simply getting carried by a NPC. A rock solid summon to have by your side all the way until the end game.
Not a very good Spirit Ash. Overrated. Tanky? Yes, but damage? Horrible. Also keeps disappearing which deaggroes enemies.
- Anonymous
I don't like her first time I try it I got ganked and she was just looking at me as I die.
- Anonymous
Tested her out against the Limgrave Tree Sentinel and she got flattened almost twice as fast as Engvall
Also, why did the devs put Deathblight on her weapon if it doesn't do anything? Because it looks kinda cool?
I feel like the rank list should be updated
- Anonymous
If you ahve any desire to fight a boss not directly beside them, do not use this summon. If you are in melee range she might be good, but she will run right past the boss if you are not hugging the boss
- Anonymous
THE MOST USELESS SUMMONS IN THE GOD DAMN GAME WTF? I MOVE AWAY FROM A BOSS AND SHE RUNS AT ME LIKE SHE HAS ABANDONMENT ISSUES. FFS
I see so many people love her but she is sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo useless
Is my game bugged or are all of your wrong?
Definitely best girl. My summon of choice until I got Mimic Tear.
- Anonymous
Used a Lhutel+0 against Royal Knight Loretta in the Carian manor.
She was able to maintain aggro for ~90% of the fight while also surviving until the end. Didn't buff her or anything.
Her dodge is absolutely amazing.
used her quite a while into the game untill i got the mimic tear. the teleports make her sometimes good at dodging big boss attacks and her lance throws ofted pulled aggro off me. the shield paired with teleports make her pretty tanky. at +10 shes pretty good if the ai isnt having some problem. plus you get her really early into the game, it was my first legendary summon for quite a while. but id rather use black knife tiche or mimic tear once you get them
- Anonymous
Tried Lhutel +2 against the Cleanrot Knights in the Abandoned Cave and she couldn't keep agro. She had around 75% of her health when i died. On my second try i used Raya Lucaria Soldier Ashes +3. They kept agro and 1 of them died but they were able to knock down the 1st knight a few times. Maybe she was nerfed or just stinks at lower levels.
- Anonymous
This summons had got to be the dumbest thing I have ever seen in a game, its invisibility makes bosses de-aggro it, if it ever engages at all. It stats are god but it is completely useless.
- Anonymous
I don't quite get the point of her having death on her lance. Like, how many enemies are there even that you can summon against that aren't immune to death?
After all, this is a status effect that only works on Tarnished (i.e. invaders and a few NPCs) and against those you usually aren't allowed to use spirit summons.
The only case I can think of where this might (?) work is Gideon Ofnir since he's considered a Tarnished and his boss fight allows for Spirit summons, but I haven't gotten to test that yet and the wiki isn't updated for Gideons resistances yet.
- Anonymous
Worth noting that her teleport will also cause her to dodge your buffs and heals, so if you're using those you likely should use another summon.
- Anonymous
She is simply smart. It doesn't have the best damage or pressure, but if you need a brief moment for yourself she will arrange you that window shortly. She is helping but you are the one leading the fight, if you keep that in mind you will understand her true strenght.
- Anonymous
what's the point of the death ailment on his spear? Enemies in pve are immune to it, and he cannot be used against other players, am I wrong?
- Anonymous
Someone actually put the effort to actually record all the elite summons taking on an Draconic Erdtree Knight, and surprisingly enough Lhutel was just 1 to 2 hits away from killing the boss. I'm actually surprised that she beat Tiche, but I guess they perform best at different situations. Tiche does really well against main bosses, sometimes too good enough to even kill them, but she seems to struggle against other bosses especially with the ones who can stagger her easily. Mind you that the test was done with both summons being +10.
- Anonymous
Honestly, as somebody who loves Lhutel and used her as my main summon for a while...she falls of HARD starting around mid-late game. I took her into battle with Radagon and he pancaked her at +10 even with me drawing aggro when her poise got overwhelmed. In comparison the Mad Pumpkin Head survived both phases with HP to spare and did enough aggro to allow me to make it through with a good amount of flasks for Elden Beast. It's not even close.
In terms of utility I'd say she's unfortunately the worst out of the renowned ashes. Kristoff has superior tanking ability and elemental damage, Oleg and Engvall have much higher DPS, Ogha and Finlay both excel in slightly different ways, and even Latenna pulled more weight for me in the end due to her insane attack power. Lhutel by endgame sort of falls flat in all respects. She could use a boost by the devs.
- Anonymous
To all those hating on her, keep in mind that if you just let your summons attack your tank, then you’re gonna lose that tank fast. If you fight bosses with her as a team and agro back and forth, her ability to jump around keeps her alive a lot longer to help you out. Stay on the opposite side of the boss from where she is and it’ll make most bosses a cakewalk.
- Anonymous
I used Luther for the first 75% of the game and she was amazing. She would distract the boss long enough for me to heal, or do damage. She is great at surviving as well. If you want a summon that does all the work, she is not your summon. If you want a great summon tu support you and survive most fights, she is incredible.
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
Ive found that when fighting some bosses at range she will run back to you instead of attacking and drawing agro like planned astal is one such boss where it did this, fortissax was another such boss
- Anonymous
This is the single most over-rated spirit summon. You don't need spirit summons for trash mobs ( infact, you can skip all of them and it's much more fun and easy ) On bosses she just backpedals or strafes holding the shield. Sure she's 'tanky' but she sure doesn't tank. Her damage is pitiful.
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
why is this listed as the bedst spirit summon :O
all it does it jump around going invis.
Cant hold agro, Cant do dmg.
I even tried lvl'ing it, and still bad.
wont say it is the worst of em all, but shouldnt be on any list of "bedst spirit ash"

This summon +10 was great for the Malenia fight. Her teleportation keeps Malenia from beating on her to regain HP.
- Anonymous
Loved this ash for the first half the game, but starts to fall away later.
- Anonymous
at +10 she basically solo'd elemer of the briar. don't sleep on her, the teleport gives her amazing survivability
- Anonymous
She's only good for rage mage type players with low hp, otherwise she is pretty pointless.
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
Maybe a stupid question as I just got her, but does she have eclipse great shield making her extra tanky against magic damage?
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
Jack of all trades, master of none. She has everything but not really good at anything. If you want a super tank, invest in the mimic, get some healing ashes of war or incantation. If you need damage, tiche is the one to go for. If the boss has low poise, grab oleg and spin your way to the victory. Lhutel is good but really niche, she doesn't fit in any role, can't even take agro and always be overly passive. Not recommend upgrading her as your first +10 ash
- Anonymous
All I know is the A.I for Npc Summons and Spirits is pretty inconsistent. you'll have fights where the A.I will just melt bosses hp bars but other times it just decides to not do anything and just get **** on by the boss. early all the way to endgame. I've had good experiences with all the Spirits I've used so far, but you'll have to be a potato to not see how janky the A.I is.
- Anonymous
This is the worst ash in the game. Everyone talking about how great they are havent upgraded anything else. My 3 wolves at +2 last longer, do more damage and hold aggro better.
- Anonymous
I don't see why nobody has mentioned this when comparing Lhutel to other legendary ashes... Lhutel is accessible right off the bat making her the best early game summon you can grab as soon as you can ride your way to the Weeping Peninsula. Meaning, Lhutel can easily fill up your spirit ash spot for early-mid game and her tankiness more or less allows her to survive and help to deal with ealy-mid bosses at that point, making her a very good tool to pick up for newbies or just early-mid game advantage.
- Anonymous
Cursed-Blood Pots solve a lot of her coy combat style, and will make her much more aggressive and actually perform to a much higher degree. Otherwise, while yes she has quite a lot of staying power, having her participate in a fight can cause it to be more chaotic and erratic than necessary due to the 100% drop of aggro once she teleports, which again is done with extreme frequency when she's not hopped up on blood pheromones.
Aggressiveness should be its own quantifiable category for Spirits as it can make or break their use with certain builds. Lhutel is a generalist, but if one is looking for dynamic combat impact, the difference between her and, for example, the Kaiden Sellsword is just night and day. That madman has no brakes on their aggression and while they don't have something like Bleed to scale their damage output close to a player's, they're hammering into targets and constantly flinching them. Of course they don't last near as long as Lhutel, but then depending on your build, hammering a boss into the downed state more frequently in a shorter window of time will much more greatly pay off.

I think she is trash I have her at +4 and it’s not much help except with field bosses
- Anonymous
There is an experiment letting spirit ashes fighting DRACONIC TREE SENTINEL 1v1 and the results are posted on youtube. She is the best performer and Tiche comes the second while the mimic got the third place
- Anonymous
The people saying she is the best aren't too bright. Mimic Tear completely out performs her, period. Lhutel spends way too much time teleporting around and being overly passive while chucking the odd spear that usually miss's the target. Yes she is tanky, but she wont hold aggro like she should. I feel like most of the people saying shes the best are people that dont even fight the boss's and just let summons do all the work in a long dragged out encounter. With Mimic Tear and Oleg you can melt a boss fairly fast
- Anonymous
literally just tps around and never hits the boss. great if she grabs aggro since she can stay alive for very long, but thats if she ever decides to attack.

Lhutel is an excellent summon for anyone whom reads this comment. At +10 she sits around 8-10k HP. Her damage is usually hard to gauge but sits at about 2-500 in the end game. For most of the comments past this one, keep in mind a lot of people use something and if it doesn't work right away they replace it. I see many comments that don't even know how she fully functions. And before you get cold feet, you can max several summons per NG.
- Anonymous
Mostly use Lhutel to line up a boss for a Cerulean Hidden Tear + Comet Azur barrage.
Still a very meaty summon that can stand some very heavy blasts.
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
Why does she do instant death if deathblight only affects players and because of how the game works you'll never face another player and have a spirit ash out?
Is this some sort of niche benefit for the few named hostile NPCs?
- Anonymous
Isn't the mentioning of the death status effect kind-of a moot point?
It doesn't affect pve enemies, and I can't think of a single instance in which you can use a spirit ash against an invading player.
- Anonymous
as a mage:
Pros: almost every end of a boss fight she still lives. (currently +5)
great meat shield, her spear evolved into a flaming spear when upgraded to 5 (altho im not too sure)
can easily avoid aoe or massive damage if she wants to, bec of teleporting technique.
Cons: doest do well in group fight, she wont die but shell agro random mobs.
cant hold agro of boss continously (but for me its not that big of a deal, since i rather have her till the end of the fight than tank hardcore at the start and die half way thru, as a mage when a boss is going for you dont cast spell instead dodge and wait for luthel pull the agreo from you)
- Anonymous
what makes this godlike and mimic only good? i feel like mimic does way more than this thing
- Anonymous
Disappointed me in the long run, mostly from her AI doing stupid things like phasing about when it really needed to press the attack, as well as being unable to keep aggro. If you want a good but not Mimic/Tiche tier summon I'd recommend investing in Ogha instead
- Anonymous
Best summon in the game, mimic is great but dies way to fast in NG+ and up. Lhutel is a beast and people complaining about aggro have never played a souls like before i guess or are relying to much on their summons.
- Anonymous
You fight against Lhutel the Headless in Liurnia, just outside the Black Knife Catacombs.
- Anonymous
My boy Ancestral Follower was not working so well vs Godskin, so I levelled up this guy and was pretty disappointed. He had a lot of trouble holding agro (vs Godskin at least).
- Anonymous
Honestly pretty overrated. It's true that she high stats and looks impressive if you just stay back and watch her go, but that's about it. The AI is very passive and careful, does little to help you when you're actually fighting yourself. Why use a summon that's not aggressive and proactive?
- Anonymous
Here's what you need to know about her: tanky thanks to her shield usage, has a ranged attack, can proc death on enemies but I'm not sure which enemies are susceptible to that, not the best at keeping aggro thanks to her teleporting mechanic making her briefly untargetable for enemies but she can get it back reasonably quickly, can chase down fast enemies thanks to the teleportation mechanic.
Last but most importantly in my opinion, she's weak when it comes to group fights.
- Anonymous
Only downside to her imo is her ability to pull aggro. Her attack speed is so slow that enemies will lose aggro and attack you instead. I fought Niell and took aggro of other summon and Lhutel took aggro of other but 10s later i got whacked in the back.
- Anonymous
As a caster i find her fairly useless. She takes agro and dies nearly immediately against even early bosses, even though i have her upgraded to +6
I generally use the skeleton ashes that summon to skeletons who revive when killed
- Anonymous
People who'd put Lhutel above Mimic Tear have never seen Chad Tear solo and out-sustained bosses through Prayerful Strike.
I beat the cemetery shade but it didn't drop Lhutel. Pretty bummed up about it.
- Anonymous
People are saying that she never dies in fights but I don't know why but she has been dying very quickly whenever I used this spirit ash. Crystallian ash lasts much longer
- Anonymous
wtf why is lhutel so much better than all other summons lol?
- Anonymous
Mimic Tear is the best summon in the game, it uses all the ashes of war, talismans and consumables that your character has equipped. I leveled Lhutel to 10 only to watch it get obliterated by the endgame bosses. Not sure why this is rated so high
Everyone talks about how the mimic tear is so great but Lhutel is far more survivable. Teleports, massive health pool, great shield. She’s going to finish bossfights with you rather than going down halfway through.
- Anonymous
I don’t know how other summons compare but she has a ridiculous amount of health at higher levels, like many thousands high. Plus she dodges so many attacks. I’ve finished more fights with her alive than not and that’s as a sorcerer letter her tank as much as possible. Her damage is meh but if you need a meat shield she is “protected me in every boss fight possible for 80 levels” good.
- Anonymous
my 1st "elite" summon that I find. I upgrade it early when I was lvl 30, struggling fighting the guardian near the tree... never disappointed me in any fight so far... she's at +3 right now & she is my main summon for boss fight... for crowd control I tend to use the godrick soldier or wolves...
- Anonymous
This summon is overrated. She spends more time teleporting and defending than actually attacking.
All the elitists who think that Summons help too much and all the people who think From does "AI" (seriously?) for these summons needs to use this one. All this idiot does is RNG actions. Not good at damage, not good at tanking, half the time just follows you around. Yeah it can be helpful if the RNG is right, but gl with that.
