Found by killing living jars

Living Jar Shard is a Crafting Material in Elden Ring. Crafting Materials are resources that can be obtained throughout The Lands Between and used to create a wide variety of items.
A fragment of a living jar, hardened after its death.
Material used for crafting items.
Such fragments command a high price due to the magical power locked within. This leaves the living jars unfortunate targets for poachers.

starting at prison church grace, you can drop down onto the roof past the snake man, then drop onto a rock ledge overlooking the lava pool. you can then drop onto a tower and onto the ground level, where you can find a little cave full of jar boys

There is a Rob Zombie song where he sings (growls) “living dead girl.” Every time I get one of these I sing “living jar shard” in my head.

This is one of the reasons most ppl play with save files to give themselves crafting materials or other consumables, because ''farming'' them is time consuming acording to the amount needed for crafting, let's be serious x3 living jar shards for 1 perfume with that drop chance ? Yeah big nope from me.

Missing the 15 (!) living jar shards in perfumer's grotto in altus plateau

Much easier to farm at Stormveil Castle's Secluded Cell than on the cliffs of Caria Manor. While Caria Manor has more large living jars, not needing to fast travel back to the beginning of the loop every time makes the Stormveil spot much less annoying, especially if you like to have a co-op or hostile effigy active whenever you're farming stuff. So long as you have a decent AOE like a dragon breath incantation or wave of gold, you can basically explode all the jars at once.

In terms of saving time while farming from the moongazing grace in Caria, its probably more time efficient to kill the 1st big LJ and then immediately head down to the ledge with the last two big LJs. The drop rate off the little guys is just so bad

With discovery at least over 200, the Forbidden Depths grace is in my opinion the best one in the game. The drop rates on the little ones up the elevator seem way higher than any of the ones outside the Caria Manor. I had done at least 10 runs and got probably 1 form all the small jars and 3 from the big ones. I just did fewer than that going up the elevator, walking on the little square of wood planks and used Mogwyns Spear WA and got 9 so far. The little ones paid out several times more in the sewers. You can use fowl feet to go up and down and reset or if you have fast loading times it's probably better to skip those, go up, send the elevator back down, kill the jars, than warp back to the bottom and repeat. This method is way less involved than any other I've tried and I can read on my other screen or watch a video while I do this.

Caria Manor
Site of Grace - Royal Moongazing Grounds
Turn and take the East door, take immediate right & go through the smaller door, proceed to drop down to a cliff-side graveyard. Bunch of lil' jars & 3 big jars. All jars have a chance of dropping Living Jar Shard & it's the least tedious spot I've found. I personally rarely get a run where I get anything less than 2 shards.

Caria Manor jars can drop x2 shards at a time with 109 arc.

So I did a little testing when farming this and what I found is that higher Discovery doesn't seem to increase your chances at a drop. I initially farmed with 323 discovery which is about max with items and consumables, doing the secluded cell farm. My rate for every silver fowled foot consumable I used was always in the 1-3 range with 4 refreshes max on a good run. I did a different run with base arcane stats but with the Silver Scarab amulet and silver foot consumable which got me 2 shards in 4 refreshes. I did a final test with base arcane and no discovery boosting items and also got 2 shards in 4 refreshes. Either the discovery stat isn't working properly, drops from the living jars aren't affected by it, or I got lucky.

I think this is one of the worst items I've found to farm so far. You have to sit and farm for 15-20 minutes to make 1 aromatic with high item discovery. It's good in PvP, but I dint think it's that overpowering since so many things will still break poise if you use it (bleed, many spells, etc) it is no infinite poise pass but it's still pretty reliable.

3 Big ones and lots of small jars in close proximity at Caria Manor.
Just drop down east/south of the Royal Moongazing Grounds bonfire.

I promised that I wouldn't kill any jars, I put them all to sleep. Then I saw the mech build needs Ironjar Aromatic.
I'm sorry little ones.

They really need to increase the drop rate of not just this but many other crafting items

These definitely DO drop from the smaller jars. I've gotten drops just now from both the little guys in Stormveil Castle, as well as from some of the small explode-y boys in Giants' Mountaintop Catacombs.

Special info about iron jar shards. All info is on my own discovery and I may be wrong about a couple things
Shards only drop from adults.
Shards will ALWAYS drop upon first kill. then rarely then after
With 262 discovery it's about 1/3ish drop chance.

This is my own info so take with a grain of salt
Adults will always drop a shard upon first kill, rarely afterwards
Children VERY. VERY rarely drop a shard, where it's not even worth it to go for them.
With 258 Discovery adults drop about 1/3 of the time

Really wish the drop rate was better on these. Love chugging my Ironjar Aromatic just before launching all those spectacular but easily interrupted spells like Scarlet Aeonia and Placidusax Ruin. Combine with Great shield Talisman for profit.
To farm go to Secluded Cell grace in Godrick castle just before Godrick. Then from the grace just move forward, and you'll see 8 living jar at 15 meters.
There is a 3% drop rate. I killed 200 of those jar and got 6 shards

190 discovery with talisman; 4 runs in stormveil got me 1 shard, 1 run in forsaken depths got me 2 shards. I'm sold farming here.
