Flame of the Fell God is an Incantation in Elden Ring. Flame of the Fell God spell fires a ball of fire that explodes on contact leaving a patch of fire. Updated to Patch 1.07.

This legendary incantation is one of several that draws directly
from the power of the Fire Giants.

Releases a ball of raging fire said to be inhabited by a fell god. The
fireball floats toward enemies and explodes, setting the area
ablaze.

Arghanthy, the chief guardian of the Flame, had kept this incantation a well-kept secret until it was stolen by Adan. The fell god still lurks within the Fire Giants.

Elden Ring Flame of the Fell God Guide

  • Fire Giant Incantation
  • Stamina Cost: 42
  • Deals fire damage
  • Can knock back enemies upon exploding, useful against bosses like Malenia.
  • High FP cost and only moderate damage make it not a spell to be thrown out casually. However, it can be a good setup tool when used skillfully
  • Following the projectile while it tracks your target can make it difficult for other players to pressure you. If you're next to it when it begins to explode, this can give you time to cast another incantation, such as a heal or buff, while protected by the threat of the blast and lingering flames.
  • This spell is extremely effective against Erdtree Avatars, they're weak to fire damage and have low mobility, often standing in the lingering flames for the whole duration.
  • The very slow projectile speed can be a boon in certain cases as well, casting it when an enemy is unawares can allow you to cast another slow or a fully charged incantation, which will combo into the explosion of the flame.
  • Note: Multiple buffs in Patch 1.07 - FP cost reduced from 42 to 34, stamina damage against guarding enemies is increased and the damage detection time of residual flames was shortened. (Patch Notes were corrected in Patch 1.07.1 as this spell could not be charged as it was stated in 1.07 official Patch Notes.)

I hate that description. Doesn’t fit for a legendary spell. No real info. Just about two boring character and no other lore implications about fire giants

Flame of the Fell God cast with lock-on: Slow, predictable, easy to avoid, no threat at all
Flame of the Fell God cast into a wall: Tactical nuke 2.0 (through walls this time)

The pros far outweigh the cons in my opinion. The projectile movement is quite slow, but it lasts a long time and serves as a really nice setup tool. Pair this with FGMS and the total damage from the initial explosion AND the chip damage afterwards is very nice. This incantation is extremely useful against bosses like Radagon and can be used to trap or pivot players in PVP.

Can be used for a bit of funsies with ladders. If you stand atop the ladder and someone is climbing up, wait until they'll almost finish climbing and cast it. You can also cast it into a wall or another obstacle to make it explode instantly.

A larger more persistent area of effect seems like an appropriate buff. Or more damage for its current area of effect and duration.

41 FAITH??? Should've had more range and more damage then. Most Sorcery spells does more damage, and takes far less INT. 41 Faith is crazy for a single incantation..

Spell that could’ve been legendary, maybe by having this going the same distance but lingering where it stops as a landmine. Not that it’s bad but in most aspects flame fall upon them and the big fireball outclass it.

                  • Anonymous

Really hard for me to decide how good this thing is or isn't. It's very easy for mobile enemies to wind up outside the blast zone unless you are actively leading them into it. Best use I've found is as a combo starter into one of your projectile incantations.

It’s sad this spell can’t be buffed because if this thing gets a longer travel distance invasions will be more chaotic, or some might use it to cheese invasions due to how broken it would be

I just got to Castle Sol and leveled up my FAI enough to cast Blackflame Ritual when I realised I can now cast this too. Would it be a good spell against Commander Niall?

Interesting hidden ability: casting this incantation forces me to hum 6:28-6:44 of Jupiter by Sufjan Stevens while it's floating through the air. It looks like I'm summoning the avatar of a gas giant.

                          • Why is this "legendary" spell with some random, hidden unknown boss in the middle of butt**** nowhere? xD
Thought I'd look through which legendary stuff I'm missing for the achievements now that I only have a few bosses left and.. yeah, I was not expecting it to be there. 81 hours played on this character :p

Fun fact: you can run directly towards it and use carian retaliation on it. It looks hilarious and is almost guaranteed to baffle your opponent by running head first into a giant aoe

Carried by this spell in a fight against Malenia, she dodges it once as it's coming, but not the explosion itself. Kick her while she's down.

Not that great in PvP but an absolute combo GOD in pve

Unless what you're fighting is short of a dragon or a giant , it WILL be knocked down , AND since the spell is kinda slow that works in your favour , cast it then charge a spell like giants flame take thee and once both of them connect that's a free 3k damage from a safe distance

Just don't use it indoors unless you wanna experience the results of a Wet Fart

Cast the flame, then fire deadly sin then the fire pillars or the ash of the candlestand making lava, it's damn funny

I know it might be due to a mod but in a VaatiVidya prepare to cry about the frenzied flame I seen this spell shooting frenzied flame strands before the scene ended. Was wondering id this is in game or it was indeed just a mod.

                                      • Anonymous

So none of the bosses actively dodge it. At all. So you know just party balloon all the fights you can't win cause they keep dodging your ****

                                        • Anonymous

More like flame of the L god. With how slow and lacking in range this tomato soup blob is, I would have expected it to do a lot of damage when it finally reaches its target, since you can only ever have one active at a time, but nope. It's outdone by black flame, which you get from stormveil. I know you get the flame of the fell got pretty early too, but damn I expected more.

                                          • Anonymous

Some people lay praises to this incantation, meanwhile carian retaliation casualy eating the whole thing....... sure.....

                                            • Anonymous

By itself it might be middle of the road for PvP, but it's not really desingned to be used solo. It is a great opener that when layered with other spells like Flame Fall Upon Them and Swarm of flies you create a bullet hell to illicit panic rolling until they either get clipped or waste their stamina whereafter you charge in to punish.

                                              • Anonymous

Best used against enemies that don't move around too much such. It's a devastating opener for an erdtree avatar fight.

                                                • Anonymous

A-tier if you understand how to layer spells. Allows you to buff/heal unpunished. There is a sweet spot opponents sit in where they can punish spell casting but won’t get hit by melee… this spell counters people hovering in that sweet spot. Then you can recast FGMS or BFP unpunished. If they roll towards you, it’s free catch flame, flame strike etc etc. This allows you to do damage while simultaneously buffing/healing. You are also partially masked by the orb: spam flame of the redmanes or charge up giantsflame while your opponent retreats. And so this spell is two slots, expensive and low damage considering how broken it could be in the right hands.

                                                  • Anonymous

Very misunderstood spell with tons of utility. For example, can be cast around corners. Face player in direction you want it to initially travel, but face camera twd enemy; cast spell, and when initial sound/circle appears, wait half a second then lock on to enemy. It will travel fwd away from direction character is facing for a sec, then abruptly change direction mid-flight and travel twd enemy. Very useful! Just be aware that in dungeons, low ceilings will cause it to immediately detonate :(

                                                    • Anonymous

It's slow, but I gave it a shot anyway. For a pure caster build that has tons of fp and nearly all flasks dedicated to fp, the consumption cost isn't bad. After playing around with it, I've been keeping a slot open for it constantly. It's not a go to for every situation spell, but it definitely has its uses. No enemy I've cast it on reacted to it as it was floating, so as long as they're in range of the explosion, they get hit. You can also use it to cast and run away. Because they won't try to get away or react until it explodes, it allows you to put some distance between you and the bad guy before he notices or before he arggos on you if you're using summons to hold arggo. The flames that it spreads on the ground do have decent stagger. So far I've used it to beat the litch dragon--no joke, to knock imps off of walls, pick off wraith callers, among other things. I've also laughed out loud several times as the imps fell off the wall, knocking off three fourths of their health, then get staggered to death in the residual flames. Fun times.

                                                      • Anonymous

I wish they would increase its damage exclusively in PvP. If you somehow manage to get hit by this, you deserve to get oneshot

                                                        • Anonymous

This works surprisingly well against bosses, they dodge the initial cast, but ignore the actual projectile. So long as you can keep them close to it before it explodes, it allows you to reliably deal a decent chunk of damage without providing an opening.

                                                          • Anonymous

It absolutely hilarious that you can completely absorb it into carian blades with carian retaliation... also very sad...

                                                            • Don't sleep on this for PvE, when used the right way or comboed with other incants it's awesome. For example, you can cast it at the start a boss phase change, like Morgott's, when damage is reduced during his vomiting, and it'll explode at the end of the animation, doing the full damage. The incant does a lot of stance damage, too. I like to cast this, then follow up with either flame of frenzy or the horns crucible aspect, both which do a ton of stance damage and lock the enemy down until the flame can explode. This combo can shred stance. I used this strategy with the horns to instakill the bloodhound knight underneath volcano manor. The lingering flames are actually really good as well, especially for staggering smaller enemies or damaging slow ones. I cast this on a black knife and she kind of broke, the flames continually staggering her.
In PvP, it's less useful, but you can do some funny stuff like cast it into a wall so it explodes instantly in case someone rushes you. If you have the space and you cast it, it can pressure the opponent by making them unable to stand still for too long, or you can follow next to it to make yourself a lot harder to pressure. It can also encourage panic rolls, especially if you cast it after a riposte or burger flip, letting you roll-catch with your weapon or a free-aimed incant like flame of frenzy or the breath crucible incant. Though not being the strongest(I would love it was able to last longer and go farther), this spell has a lot of creative and useful applications.

                                                              • Anonymous

I wouldn't call this incantation a straight garbage but since its labelled as a legendary spell, it should be more useful. The only good feature this spell has is the knock back when it explodes. Either reduce the fp cost, movement speed or damage, otherwise i would not consider to equip this spell.

                                                                • Anonymous

they should increase its damage specifically versus players. if you somehow get hit by it you deserve to get oneshot

                                                                  • Anonymous

it has a niche use in 3v3 free for all battles, just throwing it out into the chaos and seeing what happens.

                                                                    • Anonymous

Pretty useful in that you can make it explode immediately by casting it into a wall, like the pillars in Caelid colosseum

                                                                      • I find it very useful for stealth kills in PvE. You can cast it and then immediately start casting another spell like Frenzied Burst to double tap them before they get a chance to react. It's great against tanky enemies you can sneak up on like Omens.

                                                                        • Anonymous

can't even be used as a "get off me" spell because its super slow, has a very predictable explosion, and doesnt last long

                                                                          • Anonymous

                                                                            • Anonymous

                                                                              • Anonymous

They can reduce the cost all they want, but as long as it lasts about as long as a wizard host during coop its gonna be crap.

                                                                                • Anonymous

Only good use I found for this spell is to cast it and flee in terror while fighting any erdtree avatar since the spell seems to work while you're facing the opposite direction from the target. Takes a nice chunk from its HP. Note: use Radagon's icon or you'll be swatted like a bug before you're done casting

                                                                                  • Anonymous

Patch 1.07 stated that "charged spell damage has been increased" but the spell can't be charged so I'm very confused.

                                                                                    • It feels like this spell is more of a situational pressure tool than anything. Like you cast this, and then cast other spells to keep up the pressure. But I do agree, the spell as it stands isn't really that great. At the very least amp up the range of the explosion.

Conceptually, it does look cool summoning a floating sun to decimate your enemies

                                                                                      • Anonymous

I don't see this being talked about anywhere, but this spell detonates after colliding with enemies bodies or walls. It can detonate instantly on tighter walls/low ceiling places. Keep it for graves, caves or tighter spaces on legacy dungeons, and elden stars for open field (as the light flashes gets nullified when colliding with walls). But if you are not running a pure faith char, rot breath versatility might makes it a better option on pvp.

Said seal also boosts giants flame take thee! And flame fall upon them! Those two incantations are good. They also are charged spells, Godfrey Icon boosts those too. Flame fall upon them even got a buff in the recent patch. In other words, flame of the fell god, you’re not legendary

I don't mean to **** on it, but it seems really sub-par for a legendary spell that requires pretty significant investment in Faith to even use.

To everyone complaining, this is a PvP incantation. Best paired with Elden stars and triple rings of light to overwhelm your opponent from a distance the same way mages use ancient death rancor, Rykard's rancor and stars of ruin. Less experienced players will try to dodge and eventually get hit by some of the many projectiles, more experienced players will close the distance at which point you switch to Radagons rings of light, Blackflame ritual or Wrath of gold, you can also respond with regular weapon attacks if you aren't a pure caster.

                                                                                                • Anonymous

                                                                                                  • Anonymous

Night Maiden's mist appears to be similar in end effect, but deals damage in the 1500 range, costs less to cast, and only takes one slot.
Testing it on Albinaurics give very disappointing results.

As it is now, it sort of sucks

                                                                                                      • Anonymous

                                                                                                          • Anonymous

Best use for this spell is enemy AI that input reads. It only dodges on input, and it can’t detect the actual hitbox itself. For that reason it’s good against stuff like Malenia, Radagon, and so forth. I wish it’s damage was increased though so it does do the same/less than giantsflame take thee, a much more universally usable spell with more applications.

                                                                                                              • Anonymous

                                                                                                                • The flame itself also has a hitbox, I learned that the hard way when I lost 3/4th of my health with 60 Vigor trying to jump attack someone casting it.

                                                                                                                  • Anonymous

Not only is it slower than molasses, it does less single target damage than giantsflame. Its AoE isn't that big anyway, so what pack are you gonna blow up with it?

                                                                                                                      • Anonymous

Just cast it and watch it slowly go up to them, then hit through whatever cover they're behind. At high faith it tends to instakill them too.
