Channels wyrm to spew magma breath
![]() |
Magma Breath is an Incantation in Elden Ring. The Magma Breath spell conjures a wyrm head that spews volatile magma in front of the caster.
One of the incantations of Dragon Communion.
Transforms caster into a wyrm to spew magma breath.
Allows one follow-up attack.
Those who have performed the Dragon Communion will find
their humanity slowly slipping away. Once they fully succumb to
their fate, they are left no more than wyrms that crawl the earth.
Where to find Magma Breath
Where to find Magma Breath:
- Can be purchased at the Dragon Communion Altar at the Cathedral of Dragon Communion in Caelid for 1 Dragon Heart. Players need to defeat Magma Wyrm located southwest of the Seethewater Terminus site of grace in Mt. Gelmir in order to unlock this Incantation. [Elden Ring Map Link]
Elden Ring Magma Breath Guide
- Dragon Communion Incantation
- Stamina Cost: 40
- Deals fire damage
- Can be cast twice before incurring the downtime, and you can swivel your character while casting to spew in different directions.
- Damaging magma pools generated by this spell can stack on top of each other.
- This spell might require free aiming if the intent is to land the projectile on top of the enemy instead of hitting their feet.
- It takes on average 5 seconds to complete the full cast, with the first projectile landing around the 2,5 second mark.
- Unlike the named Breath spells, cannot be cast while jumping.
- Casting this spell immediately after casting Catch Flame at midair changes the casting animation into a swift spray, which can then be chained with another Magma Breath cast.
- Can be used while on horseback.

Undereated spell. Lava pool doesn't do much, but it stacks and staggers decently, and the vertical range is nuts.

The magma wyrm required for this is harder than Theodorix imo. The magma it spews is somewhat indistinguishable from the landscape magma which deals its own damage. Also like Makar it starts the fight by charging and spewing magma altogether, making it difficult to get to its hind legs or kite around. Still a fun fight though.

In my experience so far in PvE, this thing has a hard time justifying its fp cost and use of a spell slot. Any tips for making it work?

i like free aiming this baby in pvp, feels like im a living mortar

How would you cast ANYTHING on horseback with your seal in your offhand? That doesn't make much sense, and I can't get it to work.

you can still jump-chaincast this, it's very easy to mess up though

I died but my spell finished off the wyrm before I respawned, now the boss is dead and the incantation isn't unlocked :|

I like people crying that this is a 900 damage combo with 30 fth/ 45 arcane when 40 str ultra greatsword jump attack deals 1100 & RKR colossal poke deals 1300.

Tried pvp at sl50 +8, 45 faith. Catch flame into two magma breath deal whooping 400+ damage for 70FP.
Spell is too weak. Not even nearly enough to finish anyone at this level.

I was very sad at first thinking incantations sucked and faith was useless. Then I discovered this incantation can be chain casted, oh my gosh. Changed my perspective entirely. This beast is PERFECT for PVP & PVE because it prevents things from ganking up on you will healing or casting spells. An absolute staple for incantation builds and a way we can fight back against other players trying to gank us.
The magma pools stack FYI; but it's only going to be efficient if you have multiple enemies that will remain in the area for 8-10s.

if you use catch flame two times in a row and quickly switch to this spell and cast it, it cancels the entire animation and uses the move it's busted

I beat this boss and I only got the moo veil but no magma dragon incantation. Is there another boss or somewhere else it drops?

This and the other magma variant are the worst dragon spells in the game by far. Big windup, crappy range, hard to aim because of the big dumb dragon head in the way, and ultimately when it lands all of 20ft in front of you it does worse damage than basically any regular spell (at 80 faith) and the lingering magma pool is borderline useless. Sorcs magma shot does the same thing but way better at longer range and less cost and doesn't look dumb doing it, and for faith users you're just better off with literally any other dragon spell, or just yet another Black Flame.

"Allows one follow-up attack"
Does it really? Am I missing the input for this?

It's a sidegrade to Dragonfire. Magma breath launches a single projectile that creates a pool of magma where it lands, like a big chaos fireball. You might want to free aim it, even at medium range the lock-on angle tends to send the projectile straight towards the ground. It has utility against skeletons, as the magma will destroy them when they try to regenerate. Use it when you need a single big hit instead of multiple medium sized hits and aoe from Dragonfire. I'm interested in using the advanced version with frost breath.

This spell is dogshit. I have 240 Incant Scaling with Golden Order Seal +6, it does 24 dmg per tick, averaging ~70 dmg per cast and it doesn't even flinch trash mobs.... To those saying it is good, please explain how??

Very good spell.
The lava damage scales well, and its a hard hitting aoe that wont lock you in place like other breaths.
Also very good at breaking guard.
Ignore the noobs who say its trash. They obviously only spam rot breath, and wonder why they suck.

Its not at the cathedral, and ive killed all the magma wryms? i even checked the church just in case. bugged?

Unlike the other breaths, shoots a fireball that leaves a magma field for a period of time. The magma does about as much as scarlet rot as long as the enemy stands in it - pretty underwhelming.

I regret getting this, the damage is so weak. Rot Breath poops on this

Volcano Manor, hit the invisible wall in one of the empty rooms. Run down the area until you see the 2 cage lift area that is near the boss. One lift should take you down to the magma dragon below.
