Magma Whip Candlestick is a Whip in Elden Ring. The Magma Whip Candlestick scales primarily with Strength, Dexterity and Faith. It is a good Weapon for producing fire-based attacks.
This ritual implement is a three pronged candlestick with solid
flames formed of the magma of Mt. Gelmir.
When wielded as a weapon, the flames become supple whips of
lava.

It's a little cumbersome but you can get this pretty early and without beating any remembrance bosses; here's the route I took:
1. Get Torrent and talk to Patches in Murkwater Cave (I actually don't know if you need to do all of the steps to get him to progress to Volcano Manor but I didn't want to risk it).
2. Take the path around Stormveil to get to Liurnia.
3. Progress Rya's questline and get the invitation to Volcano Manor (I also talked to Patches again here but that may not be necessary).
4. Go through the Ruin-Strewn Precipice and defeat Makar - he's the only boss you'll need to beat but he can be cheesed extremely easily by getting him stuck on the central pillar and shooting him with arrows (I bought the longbow from the Twin Maiden Husks after getting transported to Roundtable Hold and I used Serpent Arrows that I bought from the isolated merchant in Dragonbarrow; you can easily run to the merchant and you can quickly farm enough runes from the vulgar militiamen after taking the transporter in Limgrave to the Bestial Sanctum).
5. After completing the Ruin-Strewn Precipice, talk to Rya in the Altus Plateau to get transported to Volcano Manor.
6. Complete the first assassination request by killing Old Knight Istvan in Limgrave. You're going to be underleveled for the two NPC fights so it can be a little tricky but if you run away and punish their openings, it's not too bad; I started as a prophet and used Poison Mist (from the Weeping Peninsula) and Impaling Thrust on a +0 Short Spear to essentially just kite him and punish/space with Impaling Thrust - you mainly just need to be patient.
7. Go back to Volcano Manor and get Patches's request to kill Great Horned Tragoth - again, he'll take a while and can be kind of annoying but the same strategy of running away/punishing the I used against Istvan also worked against him.
8. Finally, go back to Volcano Manor and get the Magma Whip Candlestick from Patches.
I always feel hesitant to go proceed so far into the game at the very beginning because I don't want to break questlines or lock myself out of items but I don't think this route messes with much - someone please correct me though if it does break questlines or anything. The only thing so far that I appear to have missed is the invasion of Recusant Henricus in Limgrave and the Hammer Talisman that he drops since I didn't know that talking to Tanith prevents him from invading but that could easily have been rectified by making a quick stop over towards the colosseum prior to going to Liurnia.

And my wife, is yours...

Best way to build around this is probably to go all in on the skill - 80 faith, shard of alexander, talisman of the dread, fire scorpion charm, flame-shrouding cracked tear, and oil-soaked tear. You get slightly less AR than prioritizing dex but since whips lack so much as a class, you mainly want to focus on the skill, as it's actually good

I get what they were going for with the magma flame but this looks like asscheeks. Make it animated or something at least.
- Anonymous
This one is almost likethe Blade of Chaos.
The only difference is that you kill someone very nice to you first, before receiving an elastic fire weapon to bring destruction on the world.
my fav wepon personally, i get that it's not the best but for a whip its pretty good

Should have scaled with int and faith. There is only one wepon in the game which scales with int and faith

This weapon is a crap weapon (cuz From software hates whips). However, it's super fun. The weapon art is slow, and everything does whip things but with fire
- Anonymous
I dont know if this is updated from the DLC but Patches does reward you with this after killing Rykard after you talk to him and select "what about my reward?"
- Anonymous
Weapon looks cool but I am NOT killing Tragoth for it, he a homie.
- Anonymous
This is kinda dogshit, uses it in my whip run 60 fth 60 dex and it did nothing. Shouldve been pure fire, or just give it more damage

For some reason its unique skill is not affected by Cerulean Hidden Tear nor by Carian Filigreed Crest, for crystal tear it will still use FP and for talisman it will show updated FP cost but will not actually change it. You can test it by swinging the whip same amount of times with and without talisman, it will eat same amount of FP. This is on 1.10 patch.

Equipping this instantly crashes my game for some reason? Does anyone else have this problem?

I guess this might serve as a weaker Whitch's Locks? I have a niche dex/fth pyromancy build that uses it to a decent enough degree. It's very light, the ash of war is great for area denial, and the usable dex scaling makes your incant casting a bit faster.
Are you a freak for whips and Lava sorceries? Look no further than the magma candlestick whip, the most defensively capable whip imo.
SEA OF MAGMA, its ash of war, can be tapped once to sling a puddle of magma below you and a few feet in front of you, this is perfect for people that are closing in and rolling around you (Super cheap FP cost too). The sling part of the animation, when thrown forth, can hit/stun players and the lava can do some pretty decent numbers (Unlike the puddle from Theodorix's magma). The ash of war can be canceled early by rolling to spawn a quick puddle of magma below you, this is good for aggressive players chasing you everywhere.
Overall I give this whip a B+ (maybe an A with further testing), while its Aow can be abused with the right timing, you can get smacked out of it easily. I personally use it as an offhand weapon for smacking players from a distance Then two-hand it when I need something quicker or to finish off another player.

Why does the skill have less range than the regular attacks?

Gotta love my Lego Torch magma-booger whip, too bad you can't farm them for powerstancing and only get one per playthrough.

This is the ugliest weapon in the game. Not even anything from DS2 compares. "Hardened flames" you mean literal plastic? Real, animated flames - like, you know, what's on torches - would have been great thanks.
- Anonymous
Just started dual wielding this recently, and it's become one of my favorite weapons just in general. The Ash of war has great stagger potential, but some larger enemies can poise through it. Great fashion and great performance for pvp and pve overall.
- Anonymous
I don’t understand this trend of making two different weapons that are the exact same concept but making one scale with dex and the other with strength.
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
It actually does not do awful damage, but what really makes this weapon one of my favorites is the range, and most importantly its ability to stagger/poise break enemies of your size. You can just keep going at them, and most enemies can do nothing against it once staggered once, and with enough hits it'll even break their poise(depending on enemy). I was sad that the regular whip was so meh, especially damage wise, so I'm really glad I'm able to make it work(even if it isn't the best, I consider it pretty good for my build) as it's just so much fun whipping enemies and staggering them to death. Also, I actually really like the design of it, for some reason the flame part reminds me of Legos, I'm not sure why.

Looks like a cheap Christmas decoration! XD
Fun weapon though

Really lame how easy this weapon is to miss. Should be purchasable from patches' shop at the end of his questline.
- Anonymous
I don't care this it looks stupid AF. It's really fun to use.
- Anonymous
How does the weapon art on this compare to the giant's red braid?
- Anonymous
He didn't give me the candlestick and I haven't killed Rykard.
- Anonymous
Interesting fact (to me, anyway): if you obtain this weapon from completing the hit, then the man-serpent who wields it on the platform above where you fight the magma wyrm in Volcano Manor will be holding an inert version of the weapon.
The whip function will still work, but the flames/tendrils will be an ashen grey color, and I don't think that the weapon art works for it.
I like the idea that they took the weapon from that enemy and gave it to you, then replaced it with a janky version.
- Anonymous
Imagine if this weapon was OP instead of being bad. To think we got one of the best weapons in the game for helping Patches and since most people kills the dude as soon as they find him, that would be a fun way to troll the community.
- Anonymous
I managed to get the reward for killing Tragoth even after killing Vykard because I had initated the dialogue with Patches after killing him before killing Vykard, but I didn't complete it, so I had the option "What about my reward?" still and got it.
- Anonymous
Awful design. It looks like a toy. Also, look closer at the base of the grip, there are two spikes there that point directly to your palm, so you will get stung as you swing it. Whoever made this crap clearly took a good look at some overdesigned western fantasy weapons and decided to crap out this piece of junk.
- Anonymous
Looks amazing powerstanced with a bloodflame blade'd whip.
Anyone know if weapon lengths are used in the powerstanced moveset? It's hard to tell with whips.
- Anonymous
I don't use any of the whips I've found. But I've just seen the weapon art in a thumbnail on its wiki page and it looks quite impressive. Is it worth doing patches quest to kill Targoth?
- Anonymous
A shame it doesn't scale like Witch's Locks in DS3. Loved my Dark Sorcerer that used it. Dex / Int / Faith scaling would make this much better, imo.

Be careful fighting Patches in NG+ if you missed this Weapon and Bullgoat set. I forgot Frenzy burst goes through shields, and one-shot him before his dialogue trigger.

Definitely tried to get this from the enemy for at least an hour before I looked this up

Bandit's Curved sword or Beast-Man's Curved Sword are the best damage to pair if Focused Str/Faith. Scavengers if you want an innate Bleed proc.

fun fact: this and the magma blade are styled similarly which means that canonically one is based on the other (candlestick probably came first)

Not GREAT for pve, damage is kinda meh, but since you can pretty much out range any "normal" enemy with it it makes for an efficient weapon for progressing through dungeon areas.
Hilarious, fun, and awesome in PVP. L2 can be channeled indefinitely and you can even walk around after the first twirl is finished, and it drops lava everywhereand is just.. totally unexpected. Remember the first time you encountered the lizard in volcano manor wielding this, you tried to sprint at him to attack, he starts twirling this, and you kept desperately trying to attack him thinking "surely if I can get one attack off I'll interrupt it", and then you're just DEAD? Yeah, you become the lizard, and it is SO FUN.
Probably not great for duels, but as an invader, AWESOME. I use this as a side arm behind dual curved swords, my favorite thing in the world to do is lead the hosts to an exitless, tight room or hallway where they think they have me trapped... and just start helicoptering on them. More often than not the first time I bust this out in an invasion I immediately kill all 3 players. I won't say it has unbreakable hyperarmor but I'm not sure I've ever been interrupted during it
- Anonymous
pretty fun weapon actually. my best advice is to treat the ashes of war ability as an R2 with a slightly longer animation commitment. lots of bosses and enemies will give you enough time to use it and it does decent damage. erdtree avatars get especially wrecked by it
- Anonymous
you can miss this if you talk to the lady first and not patches

If you kill Rykard before completing Patches' assassination request, then you're locked out of getting it. I killed Tragoth, returned to Volcano Manor and Patches just said he was leaving and if I wanted to buy something. After I rested at the grace, he was gone. I see now he'll be at the Shaded Castle, so after I get the castenets I'll smash his skull in. Always pay what you owe and a fine dark soul to you.
- Anonymous
You can hold L2 to keep swinging during weapon art, works like halberd helicopter with better range
- Anonymous
Does anyone know if it's possible get the non-magma version of this wielded by literally ONE Man-Serpent on the path to the Dagger talisman?
- Anonymous
I completed patches entire quest line and got his spear from him near the shaded castle but didnt get this, is there a way to get this afterwards?
- Anonymous
Anyone got an extra magma whip candlestick they want to get rid of? willing to trade.

Scaling damage on this is absolutely terrible, unfortunately. Very unique weapon that I really wanted to use on a new character, but found it severely lacking. The skill is actually pretty powerful, but only on slow, large enemies that will allow you to get it going. Even with it at +9, many midgame bosses feel like they take ages to kill with this.
I haven't tried this myself but there's at least one of them snake type enemies who wields the Magma Whip at Volcano Manor. Maybe you can farm them if you screwed up Patches quest.
- Anonymous
Killed Rykard early and locked myself out of getting this on my dex pyro build. Nice.
- Anonymous
The whips look cool and the aow deals a lot of damage to large stationary enemies, but overall it doesn't seem worth using over one of the bleed whips. Even if you want to powerstance on a dex/faith, you're probably better off with a bleed whip using flame art scaling.
- Anonymous
Is There another way to get it ? The patch assasination don't appear After rikard was killed

Picture does indeed make it look like a plastic toy...and then you get it and it looks...like a plastic toy. Come on FromSoft. All your fancy particle effects and you cant make this look like anything other than a disposable prop from last years tacky haloween costume?!

Welp, killed Patches. That bald headed ghoul did enough betrayal and backstabbing in the past Dark Soul Games, ain't letting that b*tch live.

This weapon was so helpful in taking down malenia, the extra range and quick speed made staying out of attack range and running from her water fowl attack actually possible.

You must do the Volcano Manor missions. At some point, you can talk to Patches, and he will give you his own letter, and upon doing his request, he will claim to put in a good word for you to Taneth.
Simply reset the area, speak to Patches again, and ask about the reward. He will give you the whip.
Kinda accidentally one-shotted Patches so uh... if anyone wants to drop this for me, hit me up? lol
- Anonymous
I doesn't appear to drop from the lizard wielding it, killed it about 30 times.

is it impossible to get this if you talk to him before doing his assassination, but after killing the serpent boss? He left because I talked to him and I didn't do it yet but I still have the assassination marker on my map

Serpent men use this weapon, but i'm not sure where its found, perhaps they drop it or in the inner dungeon of volcano manor??

i think it drops from the enemy that guards the elevator to godskin noble boss in VOLCANO MANOR. The enemy is using a whip weapon that looks like it.

You have to complete Patches Magma Wyrm boss arena quest. Then he will give this to you. You also most likely have to meet him in his cave and forgive him during mid-fight.
Would make a nice looking Pyromancer weapon I guess.
I just got this, you get this from the volcano manor questline, after you kill your first target the old knight and become a full member of the volcano manor, you can speak to patches and he will give you a letter and ask you to kill "Great Horned Tragoth" in Ruined-Strewn Precipice (the magma wyrm boss room) , after killing Tragoth, return to patches and tell him the deed is done, exhaust the dialogue, reload the volcano manor area and speak to patches, he will give the reward for killing Tragoth, its the Magma Whip Candlestick, Enjoy!
- Anonymous
Its found to the Volcano Manor. After getting to the area with Patches, you gotta fight Great Horned Targoth, can be found in the lair where you fought Magma Wyrm Makar in the Ruin-Strewn Precipice. When the fight is over and you get your rewards, talk to Patches again and he'll say to come back later for another reward. Fast travel out, do something else, then come back and he will reward you with the whip.

Magma Whip Candlestick. If you go to the Volcano Manor and accept her offer, Patches will sit in the entry hall(not sure if you have to do the first letter or just reload). Talking to him will give you another option besides buying/selling. He gives you a letter, then you have to return to the Magma Wyrm arena. After you invade and kill the NPC, talking to Patches again, resting, then talking to him a second time will earn you the Magma Whip.
- Anonymous
You get this whip by going to the Volcano Manor and accepting the offer to join. Complete the first bounty as detailed in the letter found in the drawing room. I'm not sure if you have to do two or just the one, but Patches will move to the entry hall. When you speak with Patches there will be a new option, and he will give you a letter. Return to the Magma Wyrm boss areana, invade and kill the NPC there. Upon returning, talk to Patches once, rest, then speak to him again. He will award you with this whip.

i don't know what ramifications joining the Volcano Manor has so maybe that's something to be cautious of
FromSoft, I know that no one of relevance will ever see this but please buff two things about this whip: give it a B scaling in Faith and give the skill hyper armor. That’s all it needs to become more in line with most of the other weapons in the game. It will still be a whip and have all of the struggles that accompany that, so it wouldn’t be overpowered or anything, but the improved skill would make it less outclassed by the Magma Blade and would give players more of a reason to use the weapon.
