Materials in Elden Ring are primarily used for Crafting, often to create Ammunition and Consumables. They can be found while exploring the Lands Between, purchased from Merchants, or dropped by Enemies. This page covers their names, methods of acquisition, recommended farming Locations, and respective crafted items.
Containers are Key Items which are essential vessels for crafting certain items, controlling the quantity you can hold at a given time.
Note: Discovery influences your chance of obtaining items from drops. It can be raised by increasing your Arcane attribute, consuming the Silver-Pickled Fowl Foot, and/or wearing Silver Scarab talisman.

Level 769 here, guys you don't need full everything. It's okay to just play the game and dabble in crafting
- Anonymous
At least when MMOs base mechanics on manufactured scarcity to trick you into wasting time doing things that aren't fun, it's to keep you subscribed for longer to extract more money out of you. Tf is Elden Ring's excuse? We already bought the game? Who does "more hours spent playing = more good game" mindset benefit, at all?
- Anonymous
I still really like to find really are crafting materials in the world even if I know I'll never craft the thing they're used for. It's a little bit of random excitement with no practical purpose. Like seeing Lady Gaga at the farmer's market
- Anonymous
Fromsoft obviously took inspiration from Monster Hunter's success with their gather/craft mechanic.
What they failed to understand is that spending hours gathering materials and items is only the first 1/4 of almost all MH games, later you can buy almost all materials to not ruin the gameplay flow. Probably the worst mechanic in this game. Not to mention having to constantly deposit pots in your storage in order to craft more.
- Anonymous
It's sad that some materials are super hard to farm in good quantities, you would think that it's for balance purposes but nope.
Some common materials can be used for crafting very good stuff, some for crafting very bad stuff.
Some super rare materials an be used for crafting very good stuff, some for crafting very bad stuff. There is no balance or sense involved. FROM just don't know what they are doing.
Part of me suspect they think we like farming, for example, old fang with a **** drop rate only to be able to throw some pots.
Hopefully they never try to implement this system again and just let us unlock the ability to buy stuff.
- Anonymous
At this point we need a petition about fromsoftware never ever using crafting mechanics ever. Or make a similar to duping ingame mechanic.
- Anonymous
That's was development took so long, they were making the craftable crap.
- Anonymous
Just had a duping session with a friend until we had hundreds in storage, back up character, craft hundreds of items, restore backup character with hundreds of craft mats in storage to dupe some more, all of this took less than an hour and we saved ourselves at least 100 hours of farming

Players:Hey fromsoft can you make all crafting material buyable by end game so everyone other then dupers and cheaters can enjoy the crafting system to its full ability?
Fromsoft:Nah all we can offer is string, also we'll make it even more annoying by adding a ton of other rare material that is extremely teeth grindingly annoying and tedious to farm have fun.
Players:....

In Dark Souls you grind enemies for hours to get covenant materials for big rewards, in Elden Ring you grind of enemies for hours to get 20 uses of Acid Spraymist. Part of me hopes to God they add merchants who sell stuff like rope or jar shards in the DLC, but on the other hand locking the purchase of basic materials with stupid drop rates behind DLC is braindead.
- Anonymous
Bro it is telling us to kill dogs for white striped flesh no I will never do that.
- Anonymous
It might seem obvious to some, but I haven't seen it written here anywhere: Item Discovery does not help with crafting materials you find in the world, especially if you're farming them. It has a different system from item drops that doesn't take Item Discovery into account, I think.

I mainly only craft for the exalted flesh because my starting class is from the badlands and I thought the exalted flesh would fit for the role play and lore asthetic

Everyone complaining about finite spawns underestimates how powerful their respective items would he in a fight save for MAYBE formic rock. They sound the same as Cheat Engine users saying "wouldn't it be so cool if we had unlimited everything?" Because no. No it would not.

For Fowl Feet and Golden buffs, go to the Weeping Peninsula vendor at the very bottom of the map. Northeast is a pool with Octopus monsters and Golden Fireflies. To the west along the coast are flightless pengwengs so you can farm both in a large loop. Then all you need are the Rowa seeds and BAW ! ! ! Golden pickle feet for yonks ! ! !
- Anonymous
Jeez, I hope fromsoft will add merchants for these "finite spawn" items. They're all plants too makes no goddamn sense. Preserving boluses are probably the most important consumable in pvp, and these other mats are used to make aromatics. this stuff only gives cheaters another advantage. if they dont want you to cheese your way through the game with starlight shards, they can just lock its merchant behind endgame, but having no merchant and a finite amount means that honest player will run out and be at a disadvantage to cheaters and the like who can top off their inventory whenever they like.

Oh my god, I got till consecrated snowfield until I found out crafting is a thing
- Anonymous
There needs to be better ways to get some of these materials.
The Arteria Leaf, for example, is a necessity for three items (two of them being perfume art items I'd like to use on a regular basis), but the game doesn't allow you to farm them outside of a 30% base drop from Trolls in the Mountaintops.
The way this is set up, it only benefits dupers using PS Plus or an "Honest Merchant" mod on PC.
I think the whole crafting system is a crappy joke on From's part.

I wish I wasn’t so stingy with resources. I’m the type of dude to farm stuff to get a lot of it, only to never use it.

EYE OF YELOUGH - Does not respawn indefinitely.
At least as far as I can tell. Is there a way to purchase this if you collect most of them, or do you just need to kill frenzied enemies to farm?

Maybe containers and rare/non-respawning materials should be separated or at least noted as such

do crafting materials reset when you rest at bonfires? are there a finite amount of crafting materials in the game?
Bruh people are literally spending money on save editors on console or just outright cheating on PC to get mats instead of from just making a talisman for everyone to use to pick up double material on the field. And if you aren't doing that then you have friends or use patches emporium to get someone who has spent that money to get 999 of mats. Ridiculous from smdh
