Elden Ring Memory Stone Notes & Tips

  • Though similar in effect to that of the Moon of Nokstella Talisman, Memory Stones do not require the player to equip them. Once obtained, they will passively increase available memory slots.
  • Elden Ring's Memory Stones are a departure from Dark Souls 3's Attunement stat which was a combination of both FP and memory slots.

Somehow I only have 7 memory stones after finishing the game. I went to all the rises and stuff, and all the chests were opened already. Also bought the one in roundtable hold. I hv absolutely no clue why i only hv 7

Guys let’s poll: is memory stone good or bring atonement back? Upvote for keep and downvote for bring back attunement based slots

        • Anonymous

Im impressed how many people wish more
Im not able to swap between 3 spells midfight for the one i want so i never use more than two but hey, good for them

Love how liberal this game is with memory slots. You get 10 base, 12 with Moon of Noxtella. Not only that, but very few spells cost more than 1 slot, and the ones that do have a ton of power to justify it. Much better than DS3, where you could have 40 Attunement and it would only give you SIX base slots, and the best Attunement ring required 10 Proof of Concords... believe me I've farmed the Darkmoon Ring enough times to make me go insane a few times over.

Based on what I'm reading, Sir Gideon Ofnir the All-Knowing is either a cheater or a hacker. And before you ask, no I'm not taking this seriously, this is just for the giggles.

You can hold up to twelve spell slots. Yet, Gideon in his boss fight can carry:

Comet (1 slot), Comet Azure (3), Black Flame Ritual (1), Scarlet Aeonia (3), Bloodboon (1), Triple Rings of Light (1), Rykard's Rancor (2), Law of Causality (1) and Carian Phalanx (1). That all would require a total of 14 slots, which is impossible to achieve. You're welcome :)

I, too wish for more slots overall, but the UI for managing spells is terrible, there needs to me some sort of improvement, maybe something similar to when you press Y and you have some extra shortcuts.
At the same time, I like being a little limited in slots because I think it promotes creativity, otherwise people just dump the most OP spells instead of making a selection that fits the build.
But I'm still a bit reserved against Mem Stones because even a full melee has the same amount of slots a pure mage has, and that's kinda crazy IMO, i liked a bit that if you invested in ATN you got some fp and slots, because it was a reward for dedicating your build, now, any chump can have max slots.

                • Coming back to my pure Intelligence Caster from a break of playing them, and I notice that I don't have all 10 slots on this character, but 9 instead. I think to myself that I've done all 8 Memory Stones on my pure Faith Incanter and Arcane/Faith Incanter, so I find it odd I never went to get them all on them too. I check all of the Rise's by going to each of them again, I make certain that I’ve killed Maggie, I check Roundtable’s shop, and I find that I'm still down 1 slot. I'm going crazy at this point, I've defeated Rennala, and therefore Red Wolf is also dead. I can say for certain that somewhere it bugged out and didn't give me one. While I have read through a bunch of comments on this page of other players saying they never got all of them, they got droves of downvotes saying they are wrong, but this clearly isn't the case as too many people had this issue. There is someplace in getting these where it can bug out, and if I had to pinpoint it, it is probably after you kill Maggie as she also drops a Golden Rune [1], but all other Memory Stones are received by just themselves. From what I believe, one of the first couple updates for this game fixed this bug, but it went unmentioned in the patch notes as a stealth bugfix, as multiple other characters of mine which make use of all 10 slots were made on future patches of the game, whereas my caster was on the day 1 update of Elden Ring. I hope this clears up information for people, as these people are telling the truth that they don’t have them. The only way to fix this is either a new update which remedies this issue, or you send your character to NG+ to pick up another one.

I really wish they'd give 2 more memory stones because I love equipping cool spells and all the cool spells take 2-3 slots. So to equip the cool spells and actually useful spells, I end up having to sacrifice a cool spell or like 2 useful spells. Idk how it would effect PvP balance, though from what I've seen PvP mages tend to just have 6 spells on them at most so maybe it'll be fine?

I´ve just checked everything: got all the rises right (all chests there are empty), I killed the red wolf in raya lucaria, I bought the memory stone at the husks at round table hold and I just killed Maggie next to Sorcerer Azur but I´ve still only 8 Slots ... checked all locations once more and I am pretty positive that both bosses are dead (as they are not there). Anyone else faced that issue with 1.05? My other char got all 9 possible slots (allthough not needed).

                      • Anonymous

Judging by these comments and the fact that I only have 6 stones despite only not having fought maggie, I'd say the stones are bugged. Fromsoft went through all this trouble to make magic better just for one of the most important features to be bugged. Yaaaaaaay.

Summary of why dedicated casters need 10 or 12 slots:
                          1) some powerful spells take 2 or 3 slots.
                          2) varity of tools as spells vary in use by damage type, effect and casting speed
                          3) memorizing spells for utility, exploring, combat vs pve, vs pvp and vs bosses - different enemies, biomes and bosses require different options. By midgame, a caster is going to start running into increasingly complex assortments of enemies. Swapping between types of spells means everything.
                          4) organizing spells by preferred combos - since you can quick cast chains of spells together
                          5) organizing spells in incremental stages of range, damage and/or FP cost - this lets you manage FP and casting speeds more efficiently.

As you can see, there is a lot of depth to casters and how their spells allow them to adapt to the challenges they face. Try playing one, they are pretty interesting.

Stupid memory stones, how many spells does From want us to be able to carry? 4 spells and 2 talismans is enough. Love the game but jesus the amount of useless crap you get is just annoying.

                            • Anonymous

Question for people with more experience running casters : I realize you might need 10 or even 12 slots to accomodate some of the multi-slot spells, but does anyone actually roll around with more than 3-4 spells ready to use? If so, how on Earth do you manage to usefully select them in the middle of a fight? I always find having more than 3 or so offensive spells just gets me killed as I frantically click through my spells trying to get to the right one mid-fight. I'm aware of the "hold up to return to the first slot" trick, but even that's too slow to quickly get to a spell in a fight, in my experience.
The UI for choosing spells/items/weapons is more or less unchanged from Demon's Souls, and it's really starting to show its age, IMO.

This is an amazing addition to soulsborne games I love that I can focus on my build and still have a lot of slots without putting points into a certain skill for slots.

I did all that and I have only 7 Memory Stones in my inventory, I went back to all the locations and all the chests are indeed empty, I don't understand...

Double check Seluvis rise, it’s easily confused as it’s the same ladder in middle of tower up as converted tower, I could’ve sworn I had this one and as the last one I double checked, of course it was the one I was missing

For all those desperate to find the last stone. I just found out there is a second converted tower in southwest liurnia. You have to do a gesture in front of the statue and a ladder will appear behind.

So the demihuman drop was glitched for me. She dropped the stone but it didn't actually give it to me. So i only have 9 slots. I checked and double checked every single spot. I am certain she was my last one. I am super disappointed and hope that i can get it in ng+ but i am worried the game doesn't even recognize that i didn't get it so i might just be screwed over.

I got 9 memory stones so far. Kill the troll nearest the Primeval Sorcerer Azur grace point and he should drop it.

                                          • Anonymous

There are innately 10 Slots within the Game. ( Not including Moon of Nokstella Talisman which buffs up the Maximum upto 12 Spell/Incantation Slots ).... As you start the Game with Starter Class you passively have 2 Slots , 8 from Memory Stones obtained thru the World. ( 6 Memory Stones are easily found thru Magic Tower , 1 Memory Stone is a Boss Drop from Demi-Human Queen Maggie *She's located immediately behind and before encountering Legendary Sorcerer Azur in Mt. Gelmir after the Hermit Shack*... Lastly the Last 8th Memory Stone is a Purchase from the Maiden Husk Lady in Roundtable. ( so 2 + 8 = 10 Spell Slots and goes upto 12 when equipping Moon of Nokstella , which is the last Treasure found within Nokstella , after Nokron Eternal City which is accessable after defeating Radhan ). Passively when collected all Memory Stones your character should have a Total of 10 Slots , and 12 Slots if you Sacrifice a Talisman Slot for Moon of Nokstella.... Do mind in the Grace Tab when changing Spells/Incantations , the Tab ontop says you have 10 Memory Slots , and would have 12 if you got Moon of Nokstella as a Maximum of course.... Goodluck folks.

I must be brain damaged. I've been to all of the locations and the Maiden Husks are sold out of theirs, but I only have seven stones. I've even double checked every area and all the chests are open. I wonder if maybe I didn't get it from one of the bosses because of a bug? I dunno I just feel like I'm going insane I guess

I have 10 slots now, is that the maximum? And additional 2 from that talisman. Looks like 12 is the max on the status screen.
