Millicent is an NPC in Elden Ring with a quest line that players can complete in order to gain some valuable items. Millicent is a young woman stricken with an incurable case of Scarlet Rot. Gowry will send players to look for her in an attempt to cure her of Scarlet Rot. Progress through her questline in order to unlock her as an NPC Summon Cooperator during specific boss battles.

Millicent can also be encountered as an NPC Invader. She will invade the player in the Swamp of Aeonia at all times of the day. She has light armor and appears to use a Shamshir, but with the Waterfowl Dance skill, the same as Malenia.

I would rather trust you than simply continue to spoil from within.

Millicent Questline: How to complete Millicent's Quest

Millicent has a questline related to Gowry, but also appears as an NPC Invader at the Aeonia Swamp. The quest can be completed after reaching the Haligtree Roots site of grace, and can still be completed after defeating Malenia. The quest can be done quickly if the player defeats the bosses or otherwise obtains the quest items before exhausting dialogue.

Questline Objectives:

  • Speak with Gowry in his shack and he will ask for a favor. He wants help to heal a young girl, Millicent, found beyond Sellia, who hasScarlet Rot. To do this, he will ask you to seek an Unalloyed Gold Needle, which is dropped by Commander O'Neil, located in the Swamp of Aeonia. In return, he will share the secrets of the town of Sellia.
  • Give the Unalloyed Gold Needle to Gowry. He'll need some time to repair the needle and will give you Sellia's Secret. Speaking to Gowry and accepting his quest will unlock Polyanna, Adopted Daughter's summon sign, north of O'Neil's battle arena.
  • Warp to a nearby site of grace or quit the game to reload, and he'll give you the repaired needle.
  • Bring the needle to Millicent at the Church of the Plague. You may need to complete the puzzle in Sellia, Town of Sorcery to open the path uphill. Or, coming from Dragonbarrow, jump down a Spirit Spring to the north of the Church.
  • After Millicent uses the needle, rest at the nearby site of grace, then exhaust her dialogue. She will gift you the Prosthesis-Wearer Heirloom. Upon reloading the area, she will have moved to Gowry's shack.
  • Return to Gowry's shack to find him gone, but Millicent there. Exhaust her dialogue. Reload the area, and Millicent will move, and Gowry will return. You can now purchase spells from him.
  • Millicent will now be located just northeast of the Erdtree-Gazing Hill site of grace in Altus Plateau, standing near the edge of the cliff. [Map Link].
    • The player will need to go north to The Shaded Castle and retrieve the Valkyrie's Prosthesis, which is found in a chest in a room guarded by a single Cleanrot Knight, on the northwestern edge of the castle. Return to her, and give her the Valkyrie's Prosthesis item to advance her quest.
  • Go to Dominula, Windmill Village, and defeat the Godskin Apostle. After giving Millicent the Prosthesis, her summon sign will appear at the base of the hill northwest of the Stake of Marika.
  • After defeating the Apostle, rest at the Windmill Heights site of grace, and she will appear next to it. Exhaust her dialogue to continue the quest. [Map Link]
  • Millicent can be summoned to fight the Black Blade Kindred boss in Forbidden Lands, even before defeating the Godskin Apostle.
  • Millicent will move to the Ancient Snow Valley Ruins site of grace in Mountaintops of the Giants. Exhaust her dialogue to continue. [Map link]
    • If Millicent does not appear at the site of grace, try returning to the Windmill Heights again and see if she's there, and if so, exhaust her dialogue there.
  • Millicent will move to the Prayer Room site of grace in Elphael, Brace of the Haligtree. She will not move from this spot until the player has defeated the nearby Ulcerated Tree Spirit mini-boss. To reach the mini-boss, go to the Drainage Channel site of grace, go west through the doorway, climb up the ladder at the end of the corridor, and go out the doorway on your right at the top. The mini-boss is at the landmass across the gap to the left. To reach it, go up the slope on the right and walk across the tree branch, heading southwest across the gap. [Map link]
  • Once the player has defeated the mini-boss, there will be two summon signs near where the mini-boss used to be. Specifically, on the northwest hill around the lake. The player can either:
  • If the player chose to help Millicent, they can find her near where her summoning sign was, sitting by the rotten pool. Exhaust all of her dialogue, then reload the area. The Unalloyed Gold Needle is on the ground.
  • If you return to Gowry, and he will talk about Malenia and Millicent's connection. You will no longer be able to purchase from the Sage.

Millicent's Diaogue

Upon entering the Church of the Plague, Caelid

  • Ah...Ahh

Introduction

  • Nggh... Who's there? Well, it matters not. If you are wise, you will leave, immediately. My flesh writhes with scarlet rot. It is a curse. Not to be meddled with by man.

Upon giving her the Unalloyed Gold Needle

  • You ask that I stab myself with the needle... To quell the scarlet rot? But...how? ... Never mind. I've decided. I would rather trust you, than simply continue to spoil from within. Would you mind...averting your eyes for a moment? Well. That was easier than expected. But...why do I feel so...

Upon reloading area

  • I...hoped to see you again. My apologies for when last we met. I fainted before I could even thank you. Everything is as you said. Since inserting the needle, the scarlet rot has ceased to writhe. Even the nightmares have abated... And now, thought I can scarcely believe it myself, I can move as I please. It is all thanks to you. Not that I could every truly repay you, but I would like you to have this, by way of thanks. A token, though it is.

Attacking her after giving her the Unalloyed Gold Needle

  • (Warning) Ugh. Is there something wrong? Please, cease this at once.
  • (Combat) Why are you doing this? Now you've forced my hand.
  • (On player kill) I will not forget what you did for me. But this day marks our farewell.

After receiving the Prosthesis-Wearer Heirloom

  • I'm considering leaving. On a journey. With the needle buried in my flesh, I've started to recall, but dimly... My destiny... My name is Millicent. I pray fate permits us meet again.

At Gowry's Shack

  • Oh, hello again. Something about this place felt familiar to me. So I decided to pay a visit, hoping to find someone here. But I've only found emptiness. Perhaps before my departure, I needed someone to say farewell to. I must focus on my journey, for which I have you to thank.
  • I must stay strong. I must focus on my journey, for which I have you to thank.

North of the Erdtree-Gazing Hill Grace on the Altus Plateau

  • Ah. We meet again. In truth, it's been smooth sailing, for me. The scarlet rot has stilled, since last we met. As such, I've been able to continue my journey. I realise that if I still had my sword arm, I could have aided you in battle.
  • Now, I'm tracing the path Malenia took, after unleashing the power of the scarlet rot, during her battle with General Radahn, in the Caelid Wilds. I should like to meet her, this vanished woman. I think she's in the north. In the lands that lie beyond the Erdtree.

After giving her the Valkyrie's Prosthesis

  • Giving me this arm? I thank you. I am in your debt, yet again. I think, if the arm serves well enough, it might be possible for me to wield a sword again.
  • If the arm serves well enough, it might be possible for me to wield a sword again. Perhaps, then. I can aid you in battle.

Near the Windmill Heights Grace on the Altus Plateau

  • Ah, we meet yet again. The arm you gave me truly is a thing of wonder. It feels just like my own, even handling a sword. Perhaps it is foolish to say this to you of all people, but I am sure of my skill with the sword. Thus, I would have you call upon me in battle, should you ever have the need. It is the only way that I can express my thanks.

Near the Ancient Snow Valley Ruins Grace at Mountaintops of the Giants

  • To think we'd meet in such a place... What could your purpose possibly... No, I know well enough who you are, and what I know is good enough for me. Call upon me again in battle, should you have the need.
  • I'm searching for a fort to the north of the ruins. I heard the master of the fort was given a medallion that allowed him to visit the Haligtree. Indeed, I believe that is where Malenia will be found. The Haligtree is hidden somewhere in these Northern lands.

Near the Prayer Room Grace at Elphael, Brace of the Haligtree

  • Again we meet. I can only surmise our purposes are aligned. In which case, allow me to explain myself. I am of Malenia's blood. But in what capacity I know not. I could be sister, daughter, or an offshoot... Whatever the case though, I am certain of a kinship between us.
  • There is something I must return to Malenia. The will that was once her own. The dignity, the sense of self, that allowed her to resist the call of the scarlet rot. The pride she abandoned, to meet Radahn's measure.

After choosing to help Millicent at the end of her questline, laying by the pool near where her summoning sign was

  • Thank you for lending your hand. Without your help, I could not have defeated that quartet. I feel as if I've been in your debt from beginning to end.  Thank you. With your help, I was able to live as my own person, if only in passing.
  • But this is where things end. I pause to even tell you, but... I took out the needle myself. Tell whoever put you up to this. That if I am to flower into something other than myself, I would rather rot into nothingness as I am.
  • Please, let me pass alone. The scarlet rot writhes now, worse than ever. Soon, I won't be more than a mound of flesh. Curse-laden. Untouchable. I wouldn't want such a thing to bring you harm.

Killing Millicent at the end of her questline in Elphael, Brace of the Haligtree before reloading the area

  • I did not expect it to end like this. But I will not forget what you have done.

After choosing to challenge Millicent

  • Ahh, how could you... Is this your true heart? Was I... was it all...for this?

Millicent Notes & Trivia

  • In combat, Millicent wields a unique version of the Shamshir that has the Waterfowl Dance skill, which is normally only found on the Hand of Malenia. Before she receives the prosthesis, she uses it in her left hand, never two-handing it or doing anything else that would involve her right arm, and she won't use its skill either.
  • When fighting her as an invader in the swamp, it is recommended to use Flame, Cleanse Me or Preserving Boluses to cleanse the Scarlet Rot.
  • The name "Millicent" comes from the old Germanic name Amalasuintha, composed of the words "Amal" which means "work" or "labor" and "Swinth", which means "strong". Alternatively, the French variation, Mélisande, means "brave strength". This fits directly back into Millicent's character, who despite being heavily afflicted with the Scarlet Rot and lacking an arm, is able to travel from Caelid all the way to the Haligtree almost on her own, requiring only some assistance from the player.

“if I am to flower into something other than myself, I would rather rot into nothingness as I am.”

What are you even talking about? Help me kill Melania first that’s why you are here!
The characterization of everyone in this game seems to be that people just lose the will to live and die. It’s kinda obnoxious frankly makes a lot of quests feel samey

As of Patch 1.05 you don't have to defeat the Ulcerated Treespirit in the Haligtree to see the Summon Signs to finish her quest.

I barely held off one sister, Millicent having killed the other three then rescues me from death and thanks me for my help, you’re welcome I guess.

If you choose to assist Millicent against the sisters, be sure to target MAUREEN (the spear one) first. Her Treespear outranges and staggers Millicent very hard, occasionally knocks her off the cliff.

Very annoying how how a summon sign I had no hint of knowing about is what locked me into the frenzy ending. I'd planned on getting it anyway, but I typically like getting the "good" or default endings first.

Millicent's bleeding from her right sleeve isn't due to her rot. We were invaded by Millicent, her right arm was intact. In fact, she just severs her own arm after then, to prevent herself from invading others while she loses consciousness to the rot, fighting her will to not be controlled by the rot again.

'I'm the one who found her. A mere babe, in the swamp of Aeonia.' Gowry said. Millicent and her sisters were born while Melania unleashes her power in the swamp of Aeonia. The birth of life can happen through existing of power. Malenia and Miquella were also born through combining the powers of outer gods and Marika's, and the curse they were born with is the leakage of the power.

We can trade incantation Scarlet Aeonia after defeating Malenia, and it says 'Each time the scarlet flower blooms, Malenia's rot advances. It has bloomed twice already.' Malenia's 1st bloom happened in the swamp, 2nd bloom is when we fought her. Yet we saw another scarlet flower near Malenia's boss room, with traveler set armor lying on it. There's no Malenia's 3rd bloom, telling us the flower isn't from Malenia, but from someone similar to Malenia.

I was surprised how Milicent was able to find her way to Haligtree by herself, also find out where the medallion was, even knowing how Malenia felt unleashing her power in the swamp. Because Millicent and her sisters had been to Haligtree and met Malenia. That is why Millicent subconsciously set off her journey to seek Malenia, and was able to recall the way to get there.

'Since Malenia fought Radahn, and the great scarlet flower blossomed in Aeonia, I have dedicated myself to her. And to the resplendence of the Order of Rot. ' said Gowry. We can also find Aeonian Swamp Spirit at the shore of the swamp: 'Let me see it, if only one last time. Your splendid blade, dancing amongst the scarlet rot.'

Including Gowry and Aeonian Swamp Spirit, like many other sorcerers from Sellia witness the blossom of the great scarlet flower, and were obsessed with the power of rot since then. They want Malenia to be their god, replace Marika, and begin the Order of Rot. But Malenia hates the rot, the power that consumed her body and took over her consciousness. She inserted the needle made by Miquella into her body to cease her rot, and proudly fought to be the lord without the power of the rot. Also claimed to be the blade of Miquella, she would never want to be the god.

On the talisman dropped by Gowry, Flock's Canvas Talisman noted, 'The figures represent the flock at prayer, their firm belief in the intangible inspiring even the solitary founder of their religion. What is faith if not an affirmation?' This became an order that was filled with worshippers with no lord. And so, these worshippers begin to create their own god.

Millicent's sisters too were obsessed with the power of rot, while Millicent is more like her mother, fighting their will against the rot. After they've met their mother, and find out about the blossoming and advancing of the rot, the sisters betray and kill Millicent to make her bloom, leaving the scarlet flower and Millicent's armor in the Haligtree. That is why they were so confident about Millicent's reborn and the needle in the swamp. 'Each time the scarlet flower blooms, the rot advances.' Millicent's rot begins its ravaging since then, leading to why the rot within her body is much more severe than her sisters.

'There is something I must return to Malenia. The will that was once her own. The dignity, the sense of self, that allowed her to resist the call of the scarlet rot. The pride she abandoned, to meet Radahn's measure.' Millicent wants to return the unalloyed gold needle to Malenia. She heard how Malenia abandon her will, forced to pull out the needle to unleash her rot at the swamp, to stay alive from the fight.

And that's when Millicent's sisters invade to kill her again. The image told the story. When they fight at the pool of rot, sisters were all standing in the pool, Millicents stood away from the pool. It shows Millicent's sisters were with the rot side, invading to kill Millicent, also to stop her from bringing the needle to Malenia.

'Would you disown us too? As your Mother did? We children of the scarlet rot?' -Gowry
Millicent's fate was hidden under Gowry's corpse. We can only reveal Gowry's identity being the Kindred of Rot and find out the Flock's Canvas Talisman by killing it. Telling us that the worshipper will never stop finding their way to sacrifice Millicent.

Help or betray? Die or rise? Millicent was destined for her fate can only be decided by others. Just like mother Malenia, whose only hope is her dearest brother Miquella. I chose to never betray Millicent, but I can't help to wonder if I could actually save her by betraying her?... So that Millicent can last until Miquella's return, that way maybe both she and her mother can be saved by Miquella by then?

So if you don't talk to her at the Ancient Snow Valley Ruins, then that's the end of her quest?
She wasn't at that grace for me, so I kept playing... then I went to Farum Azula, and decided to check up on Millicent, and she's not anywhere now. So her quest might be bugged out in my playthrough, which is frustrating bc I'm locked into an ending right now, and being able to find her would help a lot with that.

When she invaded I parried her Waterfowl Dance three times. The first time I got the riposte like normal, but the next two times it canceled Waterfowl Dance but she didn’t stagger and just kept on attacking me. Is that supposed to happen?

The fight where you enter her world to assist her was an awkward one. Two of them fell off the edge due to her multi-hit attack. The last one ran up and jumped at her missing. She jumped down after them and the last one jumped to follow her. I did not even get to fight as all five of them suicide over the cliff edge. Most bizarre experience in the game yet.

Millicent has slightly different dialog in Dominula and again in the Mountaintops of the Giants depending on whether you ever summoned her in battle. Basically, she asks you to call on her in battle "again" if you ever have before. However, when you meet her at the Erdtree Gazing Hill, she always speaks as if you haven't summoned her, complaining that her missing arm prevents her from helping you, even if you summoned her to help with Makar. Oddly, though, summoning her for Makar still triggers the slightly altered dialog for the later encounters.

Something to note, I think Milicent possibly would have turned into one of the massive Scarlet Aeonia flowers. The two hints they give you are the Traveler's set found by the flower near Malenia's boss room, which is the same clothing Milicent wears, but white instead of brown/covered in blood. And, Milicent's own quote that she doesn't want to "blossom into something other than myself." Whatever purpose is beyond me, though.

Advice: Ranged users can cheese the gank squad at the end of her quest by jumping onto the lake pillar, at that point Millicent can and will spam waterfowl dance on the first two then all you have to do is interrupt the sisters anytime they get a combo going.

Gave Millicent the prothesis, but progressed past the erdtree before trying to continue her quest. She is stuck at Erdtree Grazing Hill, does not move to Windmill Village or Mountaintop of the Giants. Only dialogue is something like "I'm following the path Malenia took, beyond the Erdtree". I haven't visited the prayer room in Haligtree yet, so I'm unsure whether the quest is broken for good at this stage.

Finally made it to the boss fight after a whole day working through the Haligtree madness. Anticipated a quick defeat. Summoned a random to help me. Both of us miraculously made it to the second phase. Each of taking agro off and on and then the other stunlocking her. Beat her and I just sat there in disbelief. Must be the luckiest sum*itch in the world. Tried some co-op after wards and got clapped like 10 times in a row. Not sure how that first fight went so good. I'm gonna go buy a lottery ticket now.

I just gave Millicent the unalloyed needle, she appeared in Gowrys shack, i left and returned to Gowrys shack and he's telling me she died...is it because I have already killed the invader version of her??

                                                          • I don't know what prevents Millicent from invading before starting her questline (I was never able to get her to before or after) but from reading what others have written when they can't get her to invade, starting her questline may permanently prevent her from ever doing so.

                                                            • Anonymous

Before starting it, and at multiple stages during her quest, I've tried to trigger her invasion but she does not spawn.

There is some incorrect or missing information about her invasion. My gues is that the invasion has one or more additional triggers, or a cutoff point caused by exploration/advancing the story.

Something interesting to add but if you choose to challenge Millicent at the end of her quest and kill her she turns into a flower like how malenia does after you kill her. Gowry can be found afterwards dead in his shack in a praying pose. It seems like gowry wanted her to die so she could bloom into a scarlet aeonia.

                                                                • Anonymous

                                                                  • Anonymous

                                                                    • Anonymous

You can "light cheese" the tree spirit by switching positions between the cliff and the little sea when you battle him. I walked on the cliff and attack with my AoW, after a few hits, the spirit comes up to the cliff, so you jump just down to the little sea and give him again a few hits. You can repeat this easily, but you still need to watch out what the spirit does, since he switch positions fast sometimes also.

                                                                      • Anonymous

                                                                        • Anonymous

She literally got a gold barrier protecting her from attacks. Do I really have to challenge her for her Prosthesis?

                                                                          • Anonymous

When she invaded me in the swamp, she used the skill several times. Maybe it was just a bug for me?

Then have the sister fight be after in melanias boss room. I would rather do it there than the dam rot pool.

I'm currently at the state of having to choose if I help her in the invasion or not. My plan is to beat malenia, then get the frenzied flame, burn the tree, beat placidusax, getting at the point of having to choose the ending, then go back to her quest and get the unnaloyed gold needle / miquella's needle, use it at placidusax site of grace, then choose the ending..it that even possible?

                                                                                                      • By any chance if you struggle with the sisters, equip Shabriri's Woe and hop on to the pillar that is stuck on the swamp.

It seems that the sisters only spam the incantation when I was on the pillar, so you do not have to worry about the holy discs.

Also, to distract the sisters just spam any low cost incantations on them so that Millicent can beat them one by one.

                                                                                                        Works for level 1.

Went to pick up the quest in Windmill village and she was there, but never appeared in the Prayer room. Still won't. And no summon signs near the Ulcerated Tree Spirit. Been loading and reloading and trying whatever i can but no dice, she won't show up. Could be bugged, could have been an oversight or just designed poorly. Seriously awful place to put the end of an entire quest over here. Pretty frustrating and disappointing in a game i love a ton. Guess i'll catch it on the next 300 hour playthrough.

                                                                                                          • Anonymous

Basically Millicent jumped off the cliff and the last remaining sister jumped after her. The message said Millicent died, returning to your world. It still counted as completed as i got the Insignia when returning, and Millicent was lying on the ground where she was supposed to be at her last quest step. Tl;dr, if Millicent jumps off the cliff and her sisters jump after her, it seemingly still counts as completed.

My playthrough’s canon is that she is still alive, because I never killed her after invading. Instead she rolled off the cliff and was still talking down there somewhere. She’s fine. Definitely. Malenia caught her, it’s all good. Not dead at all.

Stay away and cast, works much better than approaching and melee them with Adula moonblade. Millicent is pretty competent so she can kill 1-2 of them and take some hits as well.

The Corrupt Tree Spirit is probably 3rd hardest boss in the game. Small area, all cliffs, whole center is rot with status ailment hyper moving boss. Honestly Melenia was easier. Because while you can't attack yourself off a cliff, this guy will knock you off every side of this island he possibly can.

It can be easily cheesed by jumping on the log on the way back and jumping back to the log but last resort. Still Corrupt Tree spirit was harder than 98% of the title "whatever slain" bosses.

The sisters, Shabiri's Mask and Gravitas. If not Shabriri's mask and some masterful dodging of at least 3 invaders all with scarlet rot damage at once. But as long as you can keep their attention and not die, Millicent can kill them all herself. However if you wanna feel super manly just run a pvp build. Millicent can also heal herself at least once.

I don't get why we have to respawn and go back from the site of grace to get the needle now though. I mean once you exhaust her dialog she could have faded and dropped it. Nothing big just annoying making that trek 40 times by then just to have to do it again for the needle.

                                                                                                                              • Anonymous

'There is something I must return to Malenia. The will that was once her own. The dignity, the sense of self, that allowed her to resist the call of the scarlet rot. The pride she abandoned, to meet Radahn's measure.'
So Milicent meant to return the unalloyed gold needle? Malenia's scarlet rot was ceased since Miquella made her the Miquella Needle, was inserted into her body. Malenia too ceasing her Scarlet Rot the whole time, but she's losing to Radahn. She can't lose there, she's waiting for her brother Miquella's return. There she pull out the needle, and bloom.

That's when she abandoned her pride, used the scarlet rot. She did managed to fled with Finlay's help. Commander O'Neil maybe pick up the pulled needle? Gowry saw all this, so ask us to get the needle, for it to keep Milicent alive, so it can bloom itself another scarlet valkyrie.

So after we help Milicent, she drop us the unalloyed gold needle, and it turned into Miquella Needle once it's used on Malenia's flower?
I wonder if Malenia's concious was consumed by the scarlet rot at that time? Do we have to fight? We could've return her needle to her

I'm looking at the exact location, and there are messages around it, but she's not there.
