Misericorde Poison Upgrades

Requires regular reinforcement with Smithing Stone [1]Smithing Stone [2]Smithing Stone [3]Smithing Stone [4]Smithing Stone [5]Smithing Stone [6]Smithing Stone [7]Smithing Stone [8], and Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone, as well as Poison Affinity Ashes of War.

Elden Ring display values for poison and blood include buildup added by scaling via the Arcane Stat. The values on this table reflect the default values only. Your own Arcane Scaling will alter the number while inside the game. If you don't meet the arcane requirements for an arcane-scaling passive then buildup will show as 60% of the base values.

This upgrade cannot be enchanted with Magic or boosted with Consumables.

just a reminder this isnt worth using unless ur doing a parrying build. even swapping to this is to do a crit isnt worth it since you can just do an extra R1 before the crit and probably get more damage with ur main weapon. The high crit rate only barely offsets the fact that this is one of the lowest AR weapons in the game

Elden ring logic : Opponent gets mutilated by katana/halberd/greatsword -somehow survives with 80 hp
You get stabbed once by a small knife - instant death

This thing just has too many things going for it. I love Elden Ring but this is an excellent example of its occasionally questionable design choices. It has the longest range by far in its class, average weight (only being .5 units heavier than the lightest daggers), extremely easy requirements to meet, superlative base damage, the highest critical hit modifier, and can take all the same ashes of war the other infusible daggers can, with excellent performance under any affinity. It is just The Best dagger. In DS3, the Dagger was the best critical hitter in its class, but other daggers were better for direct combat, like Corvian Greatknife, Aquamarine Dagger and the dreaded Murky Hand Scythe. In DS2, the Umbral Dagger (which Misericorde resembles) had extremely high dexterity scaling and boosted backstab damage - but it was brittle and could not be infused. It was substandard for direct combat but had its time and place. Misericorde, conversely, invalidates every other dagger that lacks a unique L2 to give it a niche. But like it or not, that makes it close to mandatory for every build. Even builds that could somehow do more critical hit damage with another weapon will enjoy a 2.0 weight Ash of War tool that can also nicely complement slower weapons with its high attack speed.

You know how the weapon art of the Dragon King’s Cragblade, Thundercloud Form, deals just under 70 stance damage when many bosses have 80? Slap on the stance damage and lightning tears in physick, equip dagger talisman and swap to a Lightning Misericorde for probably big damage. I don’t have the game but I thought this would be cool

It should be noted somewhere in the article that this dagger has a unique thrusting R2, much like the short sword.

If you intend to work Misericorde into your build, I'd suggest using the Keen affinity on it. Although it does 32 less damage than Standard, it gains an extra 5 Stance damage along with the best DEX scaling on the list all the way from +8 to +25 (B). It also has the standard defense however if you're using this as a main, I would equip the Buckler in your off hand (comes preset with the Bandit class) so that you can use the Buckler Parry ash of war. As for the weapon itself I like to use either Bloodhounds Step or Impaling Thrust, however this depends on what you're going for. All in all, on of my favorite daggers and exceptionally good for landing devastating reposts on big bosses.

Nice pairing: Glintblade Phalanx AoW with Assassin's Cerulean Talisman. Refund your Phalanx cast after each Crit

                    • I thought I was a genius when I applied Sacred Blade ash of war to this dagger to deal a ton (90 base * 3.98 dagger crit motion value * 1.4 crit multiplier) of additional damage. But after a lot of testing I figured out that riposte attack (as well as a vast majority of moves in this game) uses a separate motion value for spBuffs, equal to 1. And on top of that, crit multiplyer does not seem to affect any weapon buffs at all. So I ended up with just 90 holy damage. Well, at least it helps with the regular R1 combo...

Stupid parry idea but theoretically possible: two misercordes left one parry right one BHS.

The idea is to parry with left misercorde then two hand right one and reverse BHS backstab just to style on your opponent.

This is wildly impractical but could be possible in the arena if you’re quick enough though you will probably need to back up slightly so that reverse BHS doesn’t go too far.

Reverse quickstep is another easier alternative or by sacrificing dual dagger moveset you can use a curved sword in left hand for even more style points.

This plan isn’t for practicality it’s for styling your opponent so hard they have to uninstall.

Ol' reliable. Lightweight, low enough stat requirement to be wielded by any class, and easily infused to fit any stat spread, massive crit damage.

In a world of boring meta weapon arts like corpse piler, got to give respect to the weapon that requires more than just spamming one button to be used well.

Did an NG+ playthrough based entirely around staggering enemies with Glintblade Phalanx AoW & Gavel of Haima. Once the enemy/boss's stance breaks, pull out the Misericorde with RKR on it, apply RKR, walk up for the crit and delete their healthbar. Surprisingly satisfying.

Nothing beats the feeling of 1 shotting someone with a good old fashion parry. No 1 shotting spell, weapon art, or jump/crouching attack compares.

I dedicate this text to all those dissatisfied with such high damage.
Dissatisfied arguments - I have a big "club" that does so little damage, blablabla. And now you look at this little thing that simply erases people from the world of the living.
My argument is, imagine you are hitting the armor with a club, yes, you are doing damage and all, but in essence you are crushing the armor, which blocks some of the damage. On the other hand, there is this little one here, which is thin and long, it goes through the joints of the armor, the slits for the eyes, the area around the neck, the groin area, etc.
Well, yes, this is a game, so don't be smart!
And there are all sorts of magicians in robes, and clubs are also erased by themselves.

I don't quite get why having such a high crit stat makes so much of a difference on a weapon which, quite bluntly, has such low base damage, to the point that people will actively swap to it after staggering/parrying solely for the riposte? I mean, even the damage gets multiplied by more, surely you'd still just get way more damage by using a weapon that flat-out does more to start with? Clearly there's something I don't quite understand about critical hits.

Elden Ring is the most fun when you don't min-max but take more equipment with you. It's a weight issue by taking more things: "would you like an ability for 2 weight?"

Turtle Shield, the sacrificial axe, misericorde, claws with life steal. You lose like 2-3% protection and gain an ability. And the Misericorde tends to be a standard asset in my runs. Right up till midgame it actually does VERY well in a bleed build just before I switch it out with the Great Knife later which scales better with occult near endgame. Depending on the area I'll either bring the Misericorde.

A sidenote for this weapon however. It underperforms with buffs like cold, bleed, poison etc. From my experience you want as high AP on it as you can get. So Magic, Holy, Fire or any of the quality variations. Which is counter intuitive as I'm doing a dagger run right now and this is my main right-hand weapon with bleed on it. My off-spec flame flamberge is still outperforming the Misericorde with bleed on it.

It might seem silly, especially when there’s RKR... but for pvp I actually use sacred order on miscericorde as a finisher. RKR makes people run away, but sacred order makes people try to punish it (+ looks cooler) and then they jump right into my r2.

                                              @Jan 16:

Nice build. Makes it so you actually "play" the game and learn fight mechanics and not just spam AoW and then Crit. The Crit is the reward for good gameplay. A 2-handed hammer deals 11 stance damage so to match the pre-nerf Flames of the Redmanes, you'd need about 4 hits not including jump attacks, or R2 which should give you full stacks of the consecutive hit talismans/physic on enemies that needs 3 - 4 redmanes. Need to be aggressive though so the stacks don't decay and with low defense should be good with dodging. Light Roll and Endure are powerful and you won't really feel gimped even when naked. I'd still wear armor for fashion though but not more than 16.4 weight. Blue Dancer Charm still gives good damage at 16 weight. You only lose 3% damage from being naked.

                                                Crit build idea(PVE):

Weapons: Cold Club(Endure/Wild Strikes), Fire Misericorde(RKR)

                                                Optional: Rickity Shield(Golden Parry)

                                                Armor: Naked

Talismans: Dagger Talisman, Rotten Winged Sword Insignia, Milicent's Prosthesis, Blue Dancer Charm

                                                Consumables: Oil Pot

                                                Physic: Thorny, Flame Shrouding

Stats: 80 Str, 60 Vig. Put the rest on whatever. You can put points on Faith for Golden Vow and Flame Grant me Strength for more damage but meh buffing every other fight gets tiresome so I don't bother.

Gameplay: Throw Oil Pot at enemy. Hammer away using 2-handed Club until enemy gets Stance broken, Switch to Misericorde then RKR crit. Club's speed and hammer weapon's poise damage should work wonders in stance breaking. With multiple fast hits, you'll be getting stacks from prosthesis and insignia. Endure or Wild Strike gives poise(and Damage Absorption with Endure) even while naked ensuring you can continuously hammer away. The Frostbite and Oil Pot will give additional damage to the Fire Misericorde which also resets the Frostbite.

Depending on defense and highest stats. Use the appropriate infusions depending on build... Prioritizing split damage but don't do something like fire on a build with no faith or strength. A flat damage will hit higher in this scenerio (which is really only useful occult on a pure arc build) all other specs have a form of split DMG that also scales half decent

For even less effort than parry, use glintblade phalanx ash of war - the heavy stagger means you can stagger bosses for very little FP at the safety of range. The stat requirements are very manageable, so this is a go-to weapon for a pure INT build for me!

Something fun I've found is to have a higher damage weapon with Redmanes, and have this weapon with Glintblade Phalanx. Buff with Glintblade Phalanx on Miséricorde, swap to other weapon, run up to something, glintblades fly into enemy, use redmanes once, and it's a huge chunk of poise damage. It knocks down omens in the subterranean shunning grounds instantly. Switch back to Miséricorde for high crit.

''The weapon's name is based on the French word for "Mercy".''

Not really. In fact its based on ''Misere'' aka misery in English. Misericorde is more like ''clemency out of guilt over misery'', as in having mercy for the misery of an opponent or individual after defeat, and was most commonly used under a context where your fate is dependent on the decision of someone else, either voluntarily so or not. It isn't inherently merciful in intent, for whoever you'd submit to could just as well decide to kill you, it just mean that the decision is out of your own jurisdiction and therefor you beget them for mercy, but was most commonly used used in a context where a quick death was considered the merciful option. In turn, the IRL dagger design purpose was to be able to land a killing blow on heavily armored opponent, and was made so it could easily weasel itself between plates and chainlink as to deliver a quick strike to vital organs, and wasn't intended for active combat but more of a mean to expediate the execution of armor clad soldiery whom otherwise couldn't be easily killed. Like rather than bash their skull in an unceremonial fashion with a club or hammer, or dull your weapon trying to jab them, you'd take this dagger and shiv them in the armpits so they'd die rapidly of bloodloss rather than agonize on the battlefield.

That was my autistic 2 cent rant, have a good day.

                                                                  • Anonymous

In PvE you're still better off using this since most humanoid enemies are weak/neutral to pierce damage but for PvP or if you just don't like swapping use the Executioner greataxe. Especially if you're a strength build.

                                                                    • Anonymous

On my dex/int build I'm running Glintblade Phalanx AoW to similar effect and it's doing great. Each blade does 10 stance damage, same as FotR if they all hit. Downside - not as spammy as FotR because the blades won't attack for a few seconds after being cast. Upside - you have the freedom of prebuffing it and generally casting it while far away, and having them attack on their own later while you are doing something else like dodging an attack. FotR for more aggressive playstyle, Phalanx for more passive.

                                                                            • Anonymous

Even the largest enemies will normally get stunned in 2 to 3 casts of the AoW, and then Miséricorde just destroys their healthbars with ripostes. Granted though, it doesn't really work against human-type enemies as it seems they can't be posture-broken while not blocking with shields, but for most other enemies in the game, Miséricorde + Flame of the Redmanes is basically a pseudo-cheese because of how much easier they become.

Since this uses a katana powerstance moveset I wanted to know whether it's treated as a dagger or katana in other ways. I was curious about stance damage in particular since katanas deal considerably more than daggers. It does seem to be treated as a dagger in this way. I tested by stance breaking the first enemy by Gael Tunnel site of grace. Tested with +0 Misericorde, +0 Great Knife, and +0 Uchigatana. Misericorde and Great Knife took 3 jump heavy attacks, Uchigatana only 2.

Absolutely devastating in invasions. Been using it since lvl 22 and no upgrades and up to 50 +7 now. I am yet to meet a host I cannot one shot with a fire Misericorde.

Throw flame of the redmane on it and it completely trivializes most boss fights in the game.

                                                                                          • Anonymous

Plus you have a skill on it as a backup/convenience skill as well.

                                                                                            • Getting backstab 165 with Misericode +7 Blood and getting 187 with Reduvia +5. My guess is the Misricode level really high will do better but for now, the Reduvia is better for me.

                                                                                              • Anonymous

I want to use this but it's getting outclassed when it seemingly shouldn't, is there any way to change this? do I need more points in Dex?

                                                                                                • Amazing weapon for a parry build. +25 flame art misericorde did a little more than 2000 crit damage on a ng+ banished knight with the dagger talisman equipped. Using royal knights resolve made it do around 3000 damage to a ng+ banished knight. Truly worthy of chaos dagger reputation.

                                                                                                  • Anonymous

i hard swap to this with Flame of the Redmanes AoW and its amazing. this **** works on bosses too, combine it with the dagger talisman and you will be doing alot of damage obviously. cant recommend it enough if you are going for a pyromancy build, or any build if you are going to be utilizing the crit damage accordingly.
