Misbegotten Shortbow is a Light Bow in Elden Ring. The Misbegotten Shortbow scales primarily with Strength and Dexterity and is a good Weapon for ranged attacks.

Designed to inflict additional damage by sacrificing range.

Elden Ring Misbegotten Shortbow Notes & Tips

  • Weapon Skill: Barrage
  • This weapon can be infused with Ashes of War
  • Misbegotten Shortbow can be upgraded by using Smithing Stones
  • Sell Value:  er runes 13 100
  • Base drop rate is 2% (at 100 Discovery)
  • The Misbegotten bow only appears worth it if you use the Arrow's Reach Talisman or are at very close range as it drops off hard at range, as at the same range, the short bow outperforms it due to its increased range.
  • This really is the only decent ranged option that also has scaling, so with this, the Bastard Sword (only needing one point invested in DEX when starting as a Hero), and the Clawmark Seal (only 2 points in FTH), you have a mostly pure STR Build that is about as versatile as any other build out there.
  • NOTE: As of Patch 1.09, the scaling values of this weapon were changed. Please refer to the Upgrades Table of this weapon below.

I like switching between this and the pulley bow on my strength build, as a secondary weapon to the big bonks I usually use.
      It's interesting:
1.) One looks super high tech and elegant, the other looks like you just made it from animal parts
2.) One has the longest range, one has the shortest
3.) They both scale decently with strength
So the pulley bow is my sniper, and this one is my pistol/uzi. They have their use for a strength build and I love them both.

This is actually fairly decent anti-range-spam tool for strength. Strength don't have too much fast projectile options, this is the one that makes mages sad and forces them to play melee offensive.

There's a much better place to farm this, head south following the cliff edge at the Ailing Village Outskirts Grace. There's three flying Misbegotten

          • Basically the Light Bow of choice for people who favour Strength, as it's the only Light Bow where the D and E are swapped in favour of Str instead of Dex for a change.
If you favour Dex or an equal balance then you'll want to go for the Red Branch Shortbow instead as it has more range, weighs 0.5 less, and only slightly less base damage (trust me the extra range more than compensates for a little less base damage)

I did some testing on the Spear and Greatshield soldier by the gatefront grace with this and the Shortbow. 42 Str, 22 Dex, both bows upgraded to +16 using standard arrows.

              No Talismans:

The Misbegotten Bow did 120 to 122 damage while RIGHT ON TOP of the grace, it could go up to 135 if I moved about a foot or two in front of the grace closer to the Soldier

The Shortbow did 125 to 128 damage while RIGHT ON TOP of the grace, damage could go up to 140 if I moved closer

              Testing with Arrows Reach Talisman:

Misbegotten did 220 on top of the grace, moving forward didn't increase damage, moving back did decrease it to 210, 209

Short bow did 195 on top of the grace, moving forward didn't increase damage, moving back over a meter brought it down to 189

              CONCLUSION:

The Misbegotten bow only appears worth it if you use the Arrows Reach Talisman or are at very close range as it drops off hard at range, as at the same range, the short bow outperforms it due to it's increased range

Most of the complaints seem to come from people who don't understand that STR purists don't like leveling DEX. This really is the only decent ranged option that also has scaling, so with this, the Bastard Sword (only needing one point invested in DEX when starting as a Hero), and the Clawmark Seal (only 2 points in FTH), you have a mostly pure STR build that is about as versitile as any other build out there.

                Yes Please

People complaining about range with a short bow clearly have no idea what the purpose of a short bow vs long bow is lol

                  • Anonymous

Go to the Altus Plateau grace site (that's the site name, it's right next to the Grand Lift) and start heading directly East. You'll see an abandoned camp - there's 2 misbegotten at the entrance and 1 inside, they can all drop the bow. As a bonus, the big guy inside that's not flying can drop the Longhaft Axe.

Barely manages to get a few more points of attack rating at 80 STR and +25 compared to a +25 soldier's crossbow, except the incredibly low range damage falloff will make it do a LOT less damage than the crossbow, even at lock on range. Not to mention the crossbow can be used on one hand and with explosive bolts if you want to.

This bow is garbage, don't bother with it and use a soldier's crossbow or a better one instead.

is this the best option for a pure bow build in pvp/invasions? in torn between using this or the black bow

                        • Anonymous

Got it after killing 40. I had 182 discovery and farmed the 3 south east of the Ailing Village Outskirts site of grace. I also got 5 old fangs.

                          • Anonymous

Not worthy of Farming imo , the Blackbow outperforms all of the Shortbows even tho its a Longbow.... The Blackbow also offers more Range , actually double the Misbegotten's Bow Range while it has the Shortbows moveset. ( Blackbow is also personally the best Status applier when you consider the Sleep , Poison , Frost , Bleed and Rotten Arrows with the Barrage Skill ). So basically having Blackbow you do deal 5%-10% more damange than all the other Shortbows , more Range and same Fire Rate... But the downside is that you only have Barrage on the Blackbow instead of the other Ashes of War which is fine by me.... But the Damage & Extra Range is worth it for me in the Blackbow rather than this bow or the Composite Bow , plus the Blackbow looks really neat and decent not silly and very tiny lol.

For a pure strength build this is sadly the only ranged option that is "viable" in any capacity. If you really want something better, than you are practically forced to for dex...

this bow is probably your best bet if you wanna use a shortbow because if you 2 hand it, you'll get 50% more strength and the reason why thats so good is because this is a strength-focused bow

Go to altos plateau lost grace travel east to a destroyed camp and there will be 2 misbegotten bowmen there to farm. Good luck!

From the altus plateau lost grace, in Altus plateau if u go east and run towards the front entrance you will encounter 2 of the misbegoten bowmen. This method is much faster. Happy item hunting!

THIS BOW IS NOT WORTH YOUR TIME. 100+ runs killing the harpies with 174 discovery to get 4 old fangs for the trouble. seriously, just use a different light bow. Its not worth your time trying to get this below average weapon (all things considered) that for some reason has a STUPID low drop rate...

RNG has it out for me in Morne it seems, where the ol kidders decided they will drop these with startling frequency, but no cleaver or axe. In short, I got four of these from killing the harpies about 60 times. anyways, this bow is really cool. The Ashes art is fun. Looks pretty dope too. It's surprisingly small, probably smaller than the composite bow. Fortune favored me and this dropped on my Strength focused character, and with this being a strength based bow there are some fun shenanigans to be had. Normally, strength based bows are usually tailored to your greatbows, so it's nice that there is now a faster, smaller, and lighter option to be had if you are a STR purist. Worth the grind if you want a solid bow option.

took me a hundred times to get, then it turns out it looks very tiny (kinda silly) and is a big ol' waste of arrows, longbow is better.

Took about ten tries as Nomad w/ no item discovery items, running across the bridge from the Beside the Rampart Gaol grace, slapping the flying misbegotten, and running back.
