Mohg, the Omen is a Great Enemy Boss in Elden Ring. This powerful Omen has royal blood and communes with an outer god known as the Mother of Truth. This is an optional boss as players do not need to defeat it to advance in Elden Ring, but either it or the Valiant Gargoyle duo must be defeated to enter Deeproot Depths and achieve a certain ending.
Mohg, Lord of Blood is another variant of this boss.
The reigning lord and hierarch of the coming dynasty of Mohgwyn. Or perhaps, of a raving lunatic.

Negations (or Absorptions)
The negation numbers are the % of your damage that gets blocked. For example, if a negation is 60, 40% of that damage by that type will go through and 60% will be negated. Bigger number = less damage. A negation of 100 means no damage goes through, and a negation of -100 mean the enemy takes 2x damage from that source. 0 means damage goes pretty much as is.
Resistances
Poison: Immune
Scarlet Rot: Immune
Hemorrhage: Immune
Frostbite: Immune
The resistance numbers are the buildup amount to trigger it. For example, if a resistance is 100 you must deal 100 points of the given buildup to trigger it. Note that these go down over time, and increase each time the effect procs.

Mohg, the Omen Fight Strategy
The Best Tips for Mohg, the Omen:
- Bring Mohg's Shackle Item
- Switch to Occult Affinities (Arcane users)
Melee Users
Equip Mohg's Shackle in your items and buff before entering the arena, summon your ash of choice right away then wait for him to approach. When he is close and about to strike, use the Mohg's shackle item to interrupt him then unleash some charged attacks on him. You may need to trade a hit or two, but you should be able to stagger him with all of that time and get a critical strike. Feel free to run away and rebuff if needed, let your summon take aggro and dodge through his attacks. Land a charged attack while he is busy with your summon then immediately use the Mohg's Shackle again--note that you can only use it TWICE each time you fight him. Then land some heavy or charged attacks afterwards. It should be easy to stagger him at this point and now you get to face him with substantially less health. From here on just read his attacks and throw out some light attacks in between or run and gun if you would like to (the pillars can stop his bloodsplatter ability if they aren't knocked down yet). Might be tricky to get down but with the hammer talisman and the flask of wondrous physick that buffs charged attacks+stance break I was able to break his stance with a straight sword, one-handed.
Magic and Ranged Users
For magic and ranged users, you need to be careful when casting spells/incantations or using ranged skills, his trident has a long reach and can clip you where you think you might not get hit. He also has a couple of bloodflame spells that can be used as projectiles. Try casting spells/incantations that are quick or heavy-hitting and make sure you're either at a safe distance, or when he's casting a spell as well, but do not trade blows with him when he's casting a spell as it is not worth it. Only do so if you think you're safe, you can take advantage of the pillars from the area to hide from the projectile. If you're using a bow and arrow, you can safely jump and shoot from a safe distance while kiting him around the area. You can also use Mohg's Shackle then cast the spell/incantation of your choice, note that you can only use the shackle twice each time you fight him.
Alternatively, prepare your Flask of Wondrous Physick with the Magic-Shrouding Cracked Tear and Cerulean Hidden Tear (to boost your magic dmg and make spells cost no FP), cast Terra Magica just before entering the fog gate (this way, the circle extends into the boss room), drink the Wondrous Physick outside, then as soon as you enter, start casting Comet Azur. You don't even have to move forward, as the laser is long enough to reach him from where you enter the boss room. If Mohg starts to do his chanting first, you'll begin firing right as he finishes his chant. It has a bit of an RNG to it as to what he decides to do and can one-shot you if he stops to throw blood, but if he just slowly walks toward you, he'll be dead within seconds, even with his 47% magic absorb. Since he is one of the bosses who don't dodge out of harm's way, this is a fully working strategy here.
Mohg, the Omen Attacks & Counters
Attack | Description | Counter |
Trident thrust attack | He will Thrust his trident in your direction (possibly can be triggered when you heal haven't tested theory) | Get out of reach, block, or dodge |
Bloodboon | Mohg will reach into the air and then toss a splash of bloodflame. This can come in a wide arc, narrow cone, or in a shower at his position. The floor where this attack contacts will light in bloodflame, dealing fire damage and contributing to hemorrhage buildup. |
|
Trident combos | He has a triple swing combo, a swing then ground stab combo, and a swing + overhead slam combo |
Watch his trident. The moment it moves dodge through the swipe and prepare to dodge the next 1-2 swings until he does a heavier attack and stops. When he stabs the ground and you are knocked down--don't immediately get up, there is a hitbox when he pulls out the trident! You can watch the trident to see if he plans on attacking again right after or if he is going to use a spell instead. |
Bloodlfame Talons | Mohg will slash the air near him with his left hand, before it explodes. | The slash itself is less harmful than the explosion. Roll away right before it detonates. Be careful if you're aggressively rolling forward into his trident attacks as he can use this attack to roll-catch you. |
Mohg, the Omen Lore, Notes & Other Trivia
When do you kill Mohg Elden Ring?
This is a frequently asked question that could be referring to either the Mohg, Lord of Blood or Mohg, the Omen. Both bosses are optional so there is not a specific time that you will need to kill either of them. This Mohg the Omen is not optional for at least one of the Endings in the game, but is overall still an optional Bosses and does not need to be completed to progress through the other Endings in th game. He and can be encountered in the Subterranean Shunning-Grounds in Leyndell, Royal Capital. This area is accessible by descending the stairs at the Avenue Balcony Site of Grace and immediately turning left out of the double grate doors. First walk to the railing, and then move northwest until the rooftops are directly to your left. Hop over the railing onto the rooftops, then descend into the plaza. From the plaza's center, face due North. The well's wooden structure will be visible between a dilapidated ruin and the walkway.
As you make your way through this Location, make sure you pick up Mohg’s Shackle which can greatly help against your upcoming Boss encounter. It will be guarded by 2 Giant Crayfish. View the Video location for visual guidance on this item's location. As you get through this area, you may encounter the Dung Eater and eventually you will find your way to the Cathedral of the Forsaken. Once you activate the Forsaken Depths Site of Grace and directly ahead is Mohg's room where you can get a chance to face him.
Mohg, the Omen Lore, Notes
- Voice Actor: Con O'Neill
- Unlike Mohg, Lord of the Blood, this boss is an illusion. This is indicated by a soundtrack called "Omen Illusion". Additionally, this boss has only one death animation despite being ripostable. It was probably created by Morgott to protect altair there.
- After the boss fight, loot the treasure chest, then activate the Site of Grace: Cathedral of The Forsaken. Stand behind the treasure chest and (with your back to the chest and you're facing an altar/ wall) attack the altar/ wall. A secret pathway will open up.
- Shorly after altair, there will be a blockade active as long as Morgott, The Omen King is still alive

Never found this boss using the walk through. It just says if you want to do the catacombs, go. Or thats it....I found dung eater....Perfect guide otherwise. But this whole underworld guide never mentions the fingers either for a trophy achievement.

Why Mohg, The Omen is immune to all status effects and Mogh, Lord of Blood not? just curious if this is something to do with the lore.

Somehow I found this fight way harder than, LOB Mohg. He just has so much health for the stage you fight him at. Not only that, but god have mercy if you want to do a status damage build using daggers or something. Because you're never beating this boss without some serious elbow grease.

Killed him with just catch flame incantation pretty fun. Learning his patterns was very enjoyable much prefer this version over real Mohg plus this one isn’t a nonce

Great boss. I prefer this version of Mohg since the blood fire doesn’t cover the whole arena. Only downside is the arena is pretty SHlT!

i spent like 20 minutes fighting him with a magma wyrms scale sword without realizing he has an 80% fire resist... pain

Crystalian Ashes; immune to his bleed and his pokey trident. Give it a try.

This Mohg is immune to all status effect, which is a trait shared by all illusion/ghost enemies. This is probably an illuision left by real Mohg like the golden Godfrey. Its location probably indicates that Mohg was originally responsible for guarding the Three Fingers, but he eventually went on his schemes and just left a illusion there.

People dislike this fight because they can’t cheese him with status effects. Git gud

God I hated this *******. It felt like my character was a magnet for that overhead attack he does with his trident.

They reuse Margit, the first main story boss, outside Leyndell. Then they reuse Mohg, the finale for Varre’s quest. Then they reuse Astel, the climax for Ranni’s quest. And Loretta, who was a part of Ranni’s quest and a part of Millicent’s. Then Godrick’s reused in an Evergaol. And the Godfrey’s Golden Shade is just a reused phase 1 of his actual fight. These are all named bosses. I’m fine with reusing Field Bosses for more content, but this is just ridiculous. I know Fromsoft has recycled bosses in the past, Capra, Taurus and Asylum Demon, the Gargoyles, but that’s different than recycling some of your most important bosses like Godfrey and Margit. That’s like seeing Logarius, Ornstein or the Nameless King just walking around or off in a cave somewhere.

I usually like to solo every boss out of fun, this is not one of the fun ones lol. dont feel guilty like me use your ashes, fight is bs anyways

The spear hitbox is weird. I was getting roll catch'd every single time, getting hit by the spear hilt if I roller into him or by the spear tip if I rolled away.
I stated rolling to the side and circle him, there's a safe spot on his left leg that seem to not get hit by the hilt. The second swing of the combo is delayed and requires 2 consecutive rolls to dodge. The problem is he changes his combos every time. After the 2nd swing he sometimes does a 3rd swing, a bloodflame explosion, a stab to the ground or nothing at all.
- Anonymous
Why does this version have immunity to all status effects When The actuall lord of blood version that has even 2 phases, has no immunity at all? Making the weaker version stronger than the actual lord of blood

Proving once more that they're out of ideas... this is Capra Demon all over again, but no pie-cheese.

I just beat this guy yesterday, I saw my friend fighting the actual Mohg and seeing him proc bleed with his RoB.
While I tried to swap around bleed and cold on my spiked caestus only to find out now that this version of Mohg has immunity to status effects lol, made the fight enjoyable though when I learned his moveset.

No wonder it takes for ever I am using elenoras poleblade and this guy has 80% resistance to fire and bleed immune. I don't get this need to force players to go farm smithing stones to upgrade another weapon because of specific bosses being practically immune
- Anonymous
Can someone please explain to me why in the world this guy is immune to all statuses. I was using the Antspur Rapier with Chilling Mist and thinking "man he must have high resistances, let me check the wiki", and I found out that part of my buil is completely nullified by this version of Mohg. Why???
- Anonymous
cant be status proc'd because hes a projection but margit can despite being a projection. okay.
- Anonymous
This boss on its own is pretty good. The attacks hit very hard but are well telegraphed and mostly pretty easy to dodge/block without too many "bullshit" moves. The health and resistances are very high but not unbeatable merely requiring a bit of patience and memorising the attacks of which there aren't many and the arena is small but not unreasonably so. Where this encounter utterly fails is the arena design, I get that a chapel has pews and that rolling through them destroys them instantly but I can't exactly roll/hit every pew at the start of the fight. I got killed so many times through no fault of my own because my character got stuck on a single pixel and it pissed me off so much that I eventually said **** crutched the mimic tear stealing aggro for the whole fight.
Well I tried to solo him with my Rivers of Blood but my damage was too low, fortunately I was able to summon my mimic and together we defeated this abomination in my first try.
Hard enemy but not impossible, he was probably hard to me due to the status effect immunity and 80 fire resistance...

Unlike the real Mohg, this illusion is immune to all status effects. It also doesn't know Bloodboon Ritual, so as long as you can stay underneath its reach you should be able to wear it down given enough time.
As with the real Mohg, watch its Bloodflame Talons:
If Mohg uses the attack quickly, be prepared for another attack to follow; most likely a ground stab from the Trident or a Bloodboon cast directly at its feet. If it's the former, great! Roll well and you get a few free attacks. If it's the latter, you will be forced to back off to try and lure Mohg away, which gives it the advantage.
If Mohg uses the attack slowly, use this time to sprint around to its backside. If you successfully evade the explosion, you'll have enough time to unload an entire combo's worth of attacks, building up a lot of poise damage.

Break the benches, roll into his attacks except for overhead straight slam (most are 3-hit combos), and back away when he does a slow blood fountain (circle). The rest is learning timings.

As an arcane build, used Dragon Glintstone Breath, to pull agro used the Crystalian Ashes (+7). Stayed outside of most of the attacks. First tried the Greatshield Ashes (+7) and they melted very quickly (don't recommend).

I propose that it's actually crystal clear, because the song that plays during this fight (and only during this fight) is literally titled 'Omen Illusion' on the soundtrack.

This boss is absolute cancer. They made it cancer INTENTIONALLY, with stupid timings, broken hitboxes and every hit sends me flying. **** you FromSoft, make a decent boss fight without relying on cheap tricks, I know you can.
insane difficulty spike compared to the dungeon he's at the end of

Killed this "lesser" Mohg after killing Mohgwyn at his mausoleum. He was....very weak. The wiki says the this one is an illusion, and yes, I absolutely agree.

I came to this boss because i had a madness incant build that does fire damage, but the boss is 80% resistant to fire and madness immune. A theme with this game also seen when hiding sorceries and casting equipment behind a boss that dodges all spells like the Red Wolf. You need it to progress your build, but you have the wrong build for the fight and it would be easier with a katana.
Time to go hunting for lightning incants...

super easy with pully chrossbow. bleed bolts obliterate him on the way down the stairs alrdy. second phase can be take a bit longer depending how much health he got back but still works good. use an ash that binds him

Jump attacks (broadsword, claw talisman, determination weapon art) and sprinting in and out of attack range worked well for me with this boss. He's slow. Didn't find dodging useful.

A pretty cool encounter, just giving you a small taste of the power of the Lord of Blood.

Im having a tougher time with mohg the omen on my second playthru (STR/FAI), trying no summons first.
For anyone having trouble with him and just want to beat him, get a tank summon and just bolt of gransax him from across the room, that worked for my very first try on playthrough 1. Need medium to high dex levels for this method though, but at least you dont have to go out of your way for Bolt of Gransax since you can find it before going into the sewers easily
- Anonymous
Circling around him works really well. There is still a lot of weird things that happen because of the chairs, camera and small arena relative to his weapon's range.

I love the intricate map and leadup to this fight. The fight itself is unenjoyable. Huge range, weird hitboxes and the damn chairs.

You can use the purifying crystal tear, gotten from killing Eleonora in Yura’s questline. I just fought this guy for like ten minutes and he only bled me once despite my standing in the blood rain like an idiot. I died from physical damage. It’s crazy useful.

The one in leydnell sewers IS IMMUNE TO ALL STATUS EFFECTS, so if you have a build bleed/frost like me you better change your weapon to keen/something physical otherwise you'll tickling him (select ash of war at a grace)
- Anonymous
Beat him @ RL 50 / +9 weapon by using a Sacred Butcher Knife, a fully levelled Mimic Tear summon, and lots of jump attacks.
Put on your armor with the highest physical defense and take turns tanking the aggro. When Mogh poise breaks don't go for the crit, I found I got more damage just whaling on him.
- Anonymous
Apparently if you spend a lot of time in the sewers you gain immunity to status effects, as Mohg in his palace doesn't have it
If you're having trouble dealing with this sack of rotten eggs on FAITH CASTER build use Stone of Gurranq miracle.
Guys, there is like one super easy tactic on this guy. ****ing great lance (probably with any other thrusting weapons) with giant hunt is really easy mode. Why? Because if you wait for him to start swinging and press giant hunt, you will evade almost all of his attacks and then counter attack him for some super meaty damage (mine did 1400 with spear talisman). Great lance is great because you can do the same with both running attacks aswell. So just evade his spells and aoes, giant hunt into his attacks, rinse and repeat. Third try, no summons.

I was struggling HARD on this boss then I realized I had all the materials I needed to get Great Knight Oleg up to maximum upgrade level so I did that and then he basically solo'd this boss for me. He's the best for bosses that you really need to stagger...
If you can't upgrade him to max level, however, I recommend pumping him up as high as you can, and then if you're built for it, get yourself a polearm with the spectral lance ash of war. This gives you a long range way to induce stagger, which made staggering this boss super easy in tandem with oleg. For me, I use an occult cross naginata with spectral lance because I'm an arcane/dex build and occult gives you some serious damage scaling with arcane.
I can't stress enough how powerful oleg is here, though. I must have done this boss 20 times hardly ever getting him below 50% health, and when I came back with big boy oleg I got him on my first try and didnt even have to use both shackle charges.

There's a problem with this page's fight strategy for melee builds. I was summoning as soon as I crossed the fog gate just like it says here but it really isn't the best strategy, if you summon as soon as you enter the boss room you will actually be making the fight harder on yourself and it will take longer, giving mohg more chances to kill you.
If you are not standing practically on top of him when you use the shackle your summons will hit him enough times for him to break free before you can get to him and land a couple of charged R2s. It happened to me a lot earlier on and it is a problem because he won't take as much damage from your summons as he would from you, assuming you're buffed to hit hard. Even then its not easy to stick close enough to him for you to take full advantage of the shackle in the first place, he has a nasty move set that can kill you very quickly no matter where you are standing.
I'd suggest NOT summoning as soon as you cross the fog gate, use the shackle twice in a row and do as much damage to him while he is vulnerable as you can possibly manage then use your spirit summons. Fair play 1v1 against him isn't going to be easy but it is the best way to take advantage of what the shackle does. The same thing happens once or twice when mohg takes enough damage to allow a critical hit, but that's preferable to fighting this boss solo.

A comment on 12th July says Mohg isn't immune to scarlet rot. This is 100% wrong I just killed him about fifteen minutes ago, I died a lot to him and one of the spirit summons I tried was rotten stray +7 had zero effect, neither did ekzykes's decay. It was good to kill him but I can't say I enjoyed it much, his move set is unpredictable and difficult to dodge successfully in any kind of consistent way. I was starting to get flashbacks to the amygdala boss in the cursed and defiled dungeon.

Not sure what it is but most of the boss fights in this game are just not good. It's like From just completely changed your rules or something so you get bosses with ridiculous attack patterns that just about one shot you and then add in other crap like ranged attacks and AOE that do 25% of your health in damage and also apply status effects

Made this fight so much harder for myself. Running an int build, and despite high intelligence I felt like I wasn't doing much damage, so I checked the wiki and noticed: weak to Hemorrhage. Cool. Had the Meteoric Ore Blade, figured that should work well despite being weaker than my main weapon. I did it, but afterwards thought "man I don't remember ever getting him to bleed!" Go back, check the page, wrong Mohg. Oops. Try Literacy.

His finger snap > Bloodflame Talon-thrust is the coolest attack, but also the death trap for him. If you Quickstep (or just roll twice) behind him you can avoid the attack entirely; no need to time it right. He will then do a wide swing, which will always go over your head. You can just stand there and attack him the entire time (even daggers will reach him). His deadliest attack is the ground stab, which always seem to come out of nowhere. He only uses it after certain attacks only. If you see it coming and manage to roll to the side, you'll get at least two full seconds to whale on him while he pulls his trident out.
At least his damage is reasonable.

I do wonder, if we are fighting an illusion like Godrey's first encounter, since they both are immune to status effect which seems like an effect of being an illusion, then how come Margit's illusion able to be affected by status effects. I'm not sure if there is a lore reason for this.

If you get the timing right, Carian Retaliation and the Erdtree Greatshield's Golden Retaliation can reflect the Bloodboon's he throws at you with the added benefit of some free damage. Some of my character's were able to finish him off thanks to this.

This kind of boss fight makes it ok (in my eye's) to glitch and skip and do unlimited hp and fp glitches to beat/cheese boss's, if the fans of these games can't fundamentally see and except the wrongs and unfair mechanics, then it's their problem, the rest of us see it for what it is a good game that needs tweaks/balances to smooth out and help make the game better in the long run for "most" players not everyone, keep that in mind. Great game verry fun but needs some "more" TLC from people who look at it as hard or impossible. For the people saying "got filterd"/ "get gud" it goes to show the intelligence that you can add to conversations/comments. But feel free to also correct grammar mistakes to make yourself seem smarter.

This wiki stating that he is immune to Scarlet Rot is misleading. Rotten Breath does huge damage to him. I am not positive whether he was rotting afterward, but there is some direct injury component to Rotten Breath that may not depend on Scarlet Rot. Rotten Breath is great for this boss, if you're an Enchanter/Arcane.

I beaten him with rivers of blood and blood nagakiba (+10 and +25). I didn't knew that he was immune to bleeding, but I left to fight him late game, so the fight was pretty easy. Tried two or three times. Just dodge to the sideways when he use his spear and backways when he cast any spell. You'll always have a window to land some jump heavy attacks.

I accidentally cast rot breath before walking through the fog and incredibly it seemed to hit him. It may be possible to super-cheese this boss using this but I immediately walked through and just started fighting him like a proper man.
This boss was genuinely the hardest boss I faced in my first playthrough harder than MALENIA ( I wasn’t putting the right stats, using a bleed katana and dragon communion), but I got to say GREATSHIELD SOLDIERS ARE THE GOAT, along with dung eater ( free him and do not continue his questline until after finishing this boss.), we jumped this fool with my isshin/gennichiro build. Use greyoll’s roar when behind him and his agro is not on you btw. And use the pillars to allow recovery. I beat this man with Reedlander pants and ¿Bloodied cloth gloves? First playthrough? Bull goat, mimic.
