Moonveil is a Katana in Elden Ring. The Moonveil scales primarily with Strength, Dexterity and Intelligence and is a good Weapon for dealing melee Slash and Pierce Damage in Combat. Its accompanying unique skill can also allow the user to draw the weapon at great speed for an instant slash attack and fires off a wave of light.
Katana forged of glintstone.
Masterpiece of a Sellian swordsmith.
Light enwreathes the blade when sheathed, explaining its Moonveil moniker.

Elden Ring Moonveil Notes & Tips
- Weapon Skill: Transient Moonlight - Sheathe blade, holding it at the hip in a composed stance. Follow up with either a normal or a strong attack to draw the blade at great speed for an instant slash attack. Both attacks fire off a wave of light, matching the orientation of the blade, with normal attacks firing a horizontal & short-range wave, and strong attacks firing a vertical & long-range wave that travels along the ground. The wave of light and melee swipe deal damage independently, allowing enemies to be hit by both for increased damage when in melee range.

I just wish it looked a little more unique, I can never tell if people are using this or an uchi until they've slapped half my health away in a fraction of a second
- Anonymous
wow, no bowstring, can't fire greatarrows, this thing really is just an objectively worse erdtree greatbow, i think you should use that instead.

Love watching moonveil users flounder when out of fp, having to come to grips with katanas' trash moveset

I have been playing with this for a while. I don’t invade at all, so I am viewing only from PvE side. I have beaten this game melee twice and I can definitely say that this weapon with sorcery and light roll is the most fun build I’ve ever used.
Is it strong? Yes, definitely, it allows to keep medium distance and pick out enemies. But I would also argue that any good weapon basically does the same thing. Good build is the one that lets you stay relatively safe, but still deal damage. It’s like complaining about fingerprint shield high GB or fist weapons being fast. They are intended to do that.
All I am saying is that I am having fun with this weapon. It would be a shame if they were to nerf it

If you ever want to be disgusted, try facing a very low-level host with his moonveil password buddy in Ranni's clothes. You will feel a crack in your heart the more he spams L2 and chugs FP drinks.
- Anonymous
I wish its aow would stop hitting for 80 damage at point blank range and would actually add like 30~50% increased damage. The garbage light aow also needs to have like a 120° cone rather than the 30° cone it clearly has, never hit more than a single enemy with it. This is the reason why there are better weapons for PvE.
- Anonymous
This needs the rivers of blood treatment. Nerfed into irrelevance the way Fromsoft only knows how.

"Hmm, what if we made the melee ash of war a ranged attack, and increased the damage?" fromsoft

The problem of this weapon in PVP is if the user has high ping, half of your health will be gone in one blink by its skill while you'll never know when the skill will come. Stop saying it's fine because it's not fine at all. It really needs a patch.
- Anonymous
putting all the kiddo comments aside and looking more at the PvE side, this weapon seems to be a good choice for a magic build as a side arm. only 18 dex and 12 strength and you can get a B scale with magic with a pretty good weapon overall
only downside is that you, again, deal magic dmg, so if thats bad against your enemy you will have, again, no really good weapon against that enemy
i think its still worth it for the high magic dmg you can get if you have a high int build with this

moonveilers after they try to use the weapon art out of hitstun for the 7th time in a row

Fromsoft fans are demented and the posts on this weapons page is proof.
- Anonymous
Just like RoB case, Moonveil's fans keep spitting red herring like "Aww, the *insert meta weapon name* is more op, so shut up", "This is PVE focused game, nobody care about PVP", "Ayy lmao skill issue git gud" bla bla bla
You know what? FromSoft do listen to feedbacks, and all of your opinions are just minority, so keep whining and watch it get nerfed soon lol

When you realize that people using Moonveil becuase they want insane power to win at any cost was more like Vergil than the cosplay you going to do.

its insane how the weapon art only costs 5 more than unsheathe despite being like 5 billion times better
- Anonymous
At first I wasn’t interested in this weapon (my first character is a int/fth pure caster). Then, when i created a new character to try out other builds, I decided to give this weapon a try. This hits like a truck even at only 30/30 int/dex.
- Anonymous
The weapon art does 700 hp through barier of gold and heavy armor, I don't even........
- Anonymous
I love watching 'veilers trying to roll-catch, it's like watching a monkey nail a wood: absolutely pointless and will not result in anything but still quite fun.

Only the most skilled players would dare to use this weapon. I’m noob so I haven’t even touched it.
- Anonymous
All the complaints are definitely PvP.
In PvE I actually find this weapon to be mediocre. Wing of Astel, Deaths Poker, and Moonlight Greatsword are vastly superior options for damaged and/or stance breaking.
- Anonymous
This thing is literally dangling keys; it attracts attention by it's shiny and noisy animation and all those one-shot montages but it's nothing more than just a "attantion taker".
- Anonymous
It’s become real popular in the duelyard to fish for phalanx combo into moonveil L2 again. No idea why, it’s such a lame combo when comet azur could do the same thing, way flashier and be an actual one shot against BoG. Heck, Sir Gideon, the NPC got me with phalanx true combo into Scarlet Aeonia. But the pea brains gotta go with moonveil and back-turned phalanx fishing like it’s 2016.
- Anonymous
Why doesn't this do cold damage since almos all other cold sorceries have a connection to the moon
It's skill transient moonlight should in theory shoot a wave of cold instead of normal magic
- Anonymous
I once encountered an invader who, quite literally, only used the weapon art. Seriously. Nothing else. No normal attacks, heavy attacks. Nothing. Just spammed the weapon art over and over. I honestly like the sword. It’s great. But to me, it’s hard to conclude that something about it is off balance for PVP.

One-on-one this thing beats RoB. That R2 is just too damn fast.
- Anonymous
Too many people can cry about this beautiful blade in PVP, but for PVE is actually one of the few weapons that looks cool and edgy in a fashion magic spellblade, I can only think for the Dark moon greatsword in terms of dripping and good weapons.
I don't care if you invaded me and I use moonveil because I never invited you to my world at first. If you wanna nerf it, be on pvp let PVE enjoyers alone, thanks.
- Anonymous
no better than any of the other meta setups. if you crouch cancel its almost impossible to punish and is insanely fast. mix in a little bit of latency and you have the perfect recipe for an anti-fun build.
- Anonymous
The spamming is going to have to stop. This simply can’t go on as it is. I suggest From explore ways to disincentivize this repugnant behavior. Perhaps a large reduction in damage would do the trick.

People who want this weapon to be nerfed are using powerstanced greatspears with bloodhound step which is the real broken **** that needs to be nerfed lmao
- Anonymous
Moonveil users: “You’re weak”
Me using scholars armament on unsheathe Uchigatana: “I’m you”
- Anonymous
It’s the R2 of the weapon art that needs nerfing. It goes way too far, way too fast, and does way too much damage. Either a reduction in distance, damage, or both is needed.
The R1 of the weapon art is not that bad, but the spamming of the R2 needs to be dealt with.
- Anonymous
when I duel my friend n she uses this its horrible. she does this thing (i think crouching) that shortens the reuse delay of its ash of war n lets her shoot it out again a little earlier and its a rollcatch nightmare
- Anonymous
everybody forgot it has bleed because everybody just spams it from a distance
- Anonymous
To anyone who thinks this weapon isn’t busted, you must have never fought someone using this who is competent. Treat the WA like regular unsheathe and use it sparingly to catch people off guard and chunk at least half their health instantly. This needs a PvP damage nerf since right now it is just ridiculous.

You might be surprised to learn that there is a magic uchigatana attatchedto your L2 spam

This weapon pairs perfectly with cold uchikatana(I probably spelt that wrong) for what I call "bloody ice!!!"
- Anonymous
It's just too good in a good hand. You can pair it with some magic combo and enemies won't be able to do anything but dodge-poking because they will get hit by your skill when they tried running attack or jumping attack unless their weapon has a long reach and a fast moveset or they have better ranged weapons/skills/spells.
- Anonymous
The more I think about it, the more I realize this weapon is just the Crescent Falchion 2.0.
A stupidly strong magic and bleed weapon that can be acquired early on, and is better than most late game weapons.
The moonveil only really becomes unbalanced when you're at around level 180 or above, where people can afford to have 80 Int without having to heavily sacrifice health and damage negation. Which is the level I fight at, I have 2000+ hp and I still lose half my health bar.
- Anonymous
will shut down an overzealous group of 3 in an instant. gankers beware
- Anonymous
Ash of war aside, this is the 3rd longest katana in the game, behind hand of malenia and nagakiba. The combos ain't bad with such reach.
- Anonymous
They should honestly make it so you can dodge the vertical slash by running sideways. You have two different weapon art options, so why not make a reason to use them in different situations.
- Anonymous
if you parry the skill, it sends the user into a blind panic because you just invalidated their entire playstyle
- Anonymous
On a dex int build it's always between this and icicle spear or chilling mist cross naginata for me
- Anonymous
For all the comments on here about how people use this weapon "stupidly" and just spam the weapon art aimlessly, I have found this weapon to be quite good when used precise and carefully, it's not hard to dodge if spammed but if you play defensively and only use the weapon art at a time when someone has left themselves open for it this is one of the best weapons in the game for PvE or pvp but only when used with precision, and on a high level build deep into Ng+x with high dex and int this thing will absolutely melt bosses leaving you the speed and light load to avoid damage yourself easily
- Anonymous
A good weapon that was designed for the most stupid build. Average int players just spam and pray, and then lose to a plain katana. It's very disgusting to see this angel in a hand of sweaty bean-brained ones.
- Anonymous
What I want to know is how did a swordsmith outside of the Land of Reeds make a katana
- Anonymous
I don't think it's really op, maybe it costs very little FP in relation to the damage it does, surely it would be fairer if it cost more, but for example Carian piercer has always given me better results
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
The true power of this sword comes from the users running the blade between their butt cheeks. The flossing action coats the blade with their fecal matter, imbuing the sword with one of the most rancid skills in multiplayer.
- Anonymous
moonveil complainers are just really bad players i think, its ash of war is so easy to dodge and moonveil is very weak overall if not paired up with alot of magic spam, so instead of just panic rolling 24/7 opne your eyes for once and you will win.

People were so dumb back there when RoB wasn't nerfed, thinking this thing is less OP than RoB. Even now, some still think it's not much OP weapon for PVP which is totally wrong.
Its skill is basically Unsheathe but with ranged attack and massive damage, and Unsheathe has a pretty fast animation. Some people are too dumb to know how to use it efficiently, and ended up spamming it stupidly. Unsheathe is designed to be used as a surprise attack when your opponent let their guard down in a middle of the skirmish, not an opening skill to use at the start of the fight.
It's too good to be a mage's side weapon. You can even throw your staff away and win the fight with just only this thing.
This might be a stupid question, can i get my dex to soft cap which 18 for this wepon and simply level up int as much as i need say like around 70, will that be a problem? Because moonvile 10+ scale both dex and int at B tear, so can i simply choice one or i must level up both?
- Anonymous
Incredibly good for the early weapon it is. The scaling and bleed aux helps it all the way to endgame.

Does crimsonwhorl tear (turns non-physical damage into healing) counter this well? The magic damage is higher than the physical damage and the ash of war is probably all magic as well.
This is my favorite Katana and 2nd overall favorite weapon only to the Dark Moon greatsword for my Dex/Int character... It's also my go-to when I'm invaded. Just slash them until they bleed, they will inevitably get distance to heal and that's when you finish them off with Transient Moonlight, it's so darn good!... VERY reminiscent of the Frayed Blade from DS III. I hope they don't nerf it further.

Moonveil still overpowered in pvp and pve alike. Not sure if they’re incapable of balancing the weapon or just don’t want to.

I think after few nerfs it is totally fine in 1v1 pvp, there are many more dangerous options. It is very dangerous in 2v2s or 3v3s but then again, othee things are waaay worse, such as bolt of gransax. I think it gets some hate like heavy thrusting sworda do for their running, but once you're used to it, its not that much of a threat. Theres a reason why top tier meta isnt using moonveil - its just much easier to land running and crouching pokes without any danger of getting countered and dual wielding does more dmg than anything else.
- Anonymous
People who complain about moonveil being OP are probably using cross-naginata which is even more broken lmfao

If you're spec'd into dex and int, you can just freight-train through any and all PVE content with this weapon, even in NG+. I haven't found it too difficult to fight against in PVP - it's WA is very telegraphed, so long as you have your complete attention on the one using it. I will admit, this becomes significantly harder to do when facing gank squads - if you're flanked by someone wielding this bad-boy, watch out!
- Anonymous
If you use it in pvp, rethink your choices. If you use it in pve, that’s okay, it’s a cool weapon and I understand why someone would use it.
- Anonymous
shame they made all these weapons when they could have stopped at this one
- Anonymous
Moonveil complainers are far more annoying and unskilled than the abusers
- Anonymous
When you start getting up into the higher levels, like 150 and above, moonveil weapon art starts doing over 1.5k damage a pop, its utterly ridiculous.
- Anonymous
Screw the meta, I actually WANT to slice through the game's PvE like butter. There are far too many bland fights and bad overall moments, so much that I need an OP weapon to just get through them and get to the good stuff.
- Anonymous
In a way, People using a vergil weapon, only becuase they crave having insane power and victory at all costs, is more fitting than any cosplay attempt at him.

From the critically acclaimed short story "I have no brain and I must L2"

i see so many complains, but i fought a few moonveils with an offmeta build and it wasnt realy all that hard. with 60 vigor and ok armor (not super heavy or anything) it did maybe 1/3 of my hp pool and it wasnt that hard to dodge either. EXCEPT invasions. In Invasions it is pretty anoying bc when you fight one guy and you cant react to the other person with moonlight then its realy realy anoying... but so is like 50% of regular pvp builds. and in pve this just doesnt compare to way better options. id make a spellblade without a weapon at all just carian slicer rather then use this in pve. the damage sucks in pve. gets out damaged by almost any other buildidea i had ever. even by a healing build using prayer strike.
the pros are:
weeb action
range
and speed
i wouldnt count damage as a pro bc it just isnt that high...
decent pvp weapon but ok to below avarege pve weapon.
and the poise nerf made it even more useless in pve. meanwhile rivers of blood is still dumb as **** and has insane dumb damage. idk why people are talking about an anoying weapon in 1vX scenarios when used by the X (group), instead of ****ing Rivers of god damn blood which is just op in every way.
I just love this weapon for how much salt it generates lmao
