Night Maiden's Mist is a Sorcery in Elden Ring. The Night Maiden's Mist spell creates a dense mist before the caster, which deals damage to everything within it.

One of the night sorceries of Sellia, Town of Sorcery.

Releases a life-sapping silver mist before the caster, dealing
damage to all caught within, including the caster.
This sorcery can be cast while in motion.

Below Sellia, the Eternal City of Nokron sleeps. This sorcery
originates from the maiden of that place.

Where to find Night Maiden's Mist

Where to find Night Maiden's Mist:

  • Can be purchased from Gowry for 5,000 Runes after completing his quest line.

Elden Ring Night Maiden's Mist Guide

  • Night Sorcery
  • Stamina Cost: 0
  • Deals standard physical damage
  • Duration: 17 seconds
  • Does about 1,500 damage overall.
  • From the time the spell strikes to the time the mist clears is 15 seconds. It may continue to damage briefly after the spell ends.
  • Can be charged, increasing the radius of the cloud but neither damage nor duration.
    • It appears to double the radius. It may be slightly less.
  • Can be cast at level 1 (Wretch) with enough intelligence boosting gear and low requirement staves:
  • The mist can attack enemies through walls and objects. It can be used to kill hosts glitched under terrain or inside walls during invasions.
  • Continues dealing damage for a few more ticks after the target has left the radius.
  • Casting the spell will initially shoot a ball of mist, which will generate the mist area if it comes into contact with a wall, floor, enemy, or object. It will also generate the mist after it travels a few seconds in the air without touching anything.
  • The mist lingers for its full duration even after death (until the loading screen), so if a boss has low health but you think you might not make it, you can cast it at your feet, or run into an existing mist and hopefully it will bring down the boss with you. The boss has to actually be defeated and give you its rewards though, otherwise this is pointless.
  • This spell is very effective for guarding ladders. The direct impact area (about the size of an uncharged spell radius or smaller) will knock enemies down, but the mist will also slowly sap their HP.
  • This sorcery deals damage to all targets, including yourself. The sole exception appears to be friendly players in co-op. Use with caution!
    • However it doesn't destroy physical objects, nor can it destroy skull-like deposits on Walking Mausoleums.
  • Multiple clouds do not stack, the second cancels the first.

This spell can be used to easily defeat the Godskin Noble. Whenever he starts to roll get behind a pillar and he'll just roll for a long amount of time. Allowing you to continously use this on him.

Also this mist completely and utterly destroys those Crystal bosses that you need to stance break. As the mist completely bypasses their absurd defense.

Probably the most useful spell in the game, good damage, low reqs and not completely broken like Pestilent mist from DS3 (which I totally loved as well)

        • Anonymous

Would be cool if you can hurt other stuff on the same team, help the host as an invader or kill the host as a hunter/furled finger

Very good spell for dealing with stationary enemies with big HP pools, or enemies who don't move around a lot.
i.e. Bell bearing hunters, erdtree avatars, miranda flowers.

"However it doesn't destroy physical objects"
This is actually false as I tried it to verse a avatar and there's the massive arrow catapults that eventually broke from all the mist I threw are they not considered physical objects?

              • Anonymous

great for low-level invasions where hosts/phantoms haven't leveled vigor enough and this spell becomes lethal in a few seconds

                • Anonymous

really good anti camper spell, goes through walls, can be deployed at a distance, and does respectable damage

It's fun to use this to kill entire groups of electrified Silver Tears in Nokstella with just one cast.
As soon as the first slides in the mist and dies, it's electric explosion will spread to the others potentially killing them since they were entering the mist as well. I just enjoy the electric chain reaction as the mist keeps dealing damage.

Might be a bug, so if anyone can confirm would be nice
Crystallians in Haligtree seems to aggro now as soon as any istance of the mist damage gets to them

Discovered this in my pure mage playthrough: You can absolutely damage Rennala with this while she's in her bubble. However, after her health has been reduced to zero you still need to break her bubble and then smack her once with your stick. Good way to completely skip her gravestone gimmick in phase 1

Standard physical damage, so its increased by ALL effects that increase physical or generic damage. It does scale, albeit poorly. it is NOT effected by Staff of Loss. So, Bloodboil aromatic, Blue Dancer Charm, both Sorcery talismans, and Ritual Sword Talisman is the most bang for your buck with Lusats staff at 80 int. Jellyfish also increases its damage, but not as efficient as blue dancer. Godfrey Icon increases its damage, but less than any of the aforementioned sources other than the smaller sorcery talisman (and only beats it by a very small amount). Blood/poison talismans/hats do boost it, but the buffs they provide don't last long, so you get better returns from any of the above sources. Against the troll outside of the Grafted's boss fight, I managed 2986 at 99 int, lusats staff, bloodboil, blue dancer, both spell talis, and godfreys (could have been over 3k with ritual sword)

I wonder, could this be used to kill Bernahl from the secret passage at Volcano Manor? Didn't realize I wanted his armor until after he'd already moved to the manor, and not having to wait until Farum Azula to get it would be great...

I saw something yesterday using a +10 bolt of gransax with the right talismans and physik, I see a fully charged casts hit for just over four thousand in damage consistently, with rain boosting that even further. I like to use a bottle neck for bunching enemies together.
This time I cast night maiden's mist into that bottle neck for obvious reasons. I think the enclosed area had an unintended effect on the mist because it was stopping 'ancient lightning spear' dead in its tracks without getting anywhere near hitting one of the mages. This might have implications for PVP if it can be repeated.

Damn i miss Life Drain Patch.... Killing hosts was a mad fun way of being peak ***hole. Just finished a boss and the host thinks all is well so they drop their controller and just stand about for a while without bothering to heal. Little do they know im not in it for the boss. Im the worst piece of **** theyve met. Im usually super helpful sunbro but once in a while the hosts being hopeless idiots just gets to me. making them suffer is nice way to get back at em lol.

A fantastic and underrated spell in pve. Has a surprising amount of utility. Great for hitting enemies through walls, clearing groups (including annoying boss fights like the triple crystallians), and supplemental damage on large slow-moving enemies while you fire off your main damage spells. This spell single-handedly beat that stupid invisible assassin boss for me. Its ineffective vs fast enemies and risky in cramped quarters. The flat damage (about 1600 hp total) falls off in later NG cycles. Fp to damage ratio can either be great or a complete waste, just depends on when and how you employ the spell. Overall a good pick for a spell slot, especially for a first playthrough. After using it for a while, im finding it hard to replace.

This seems to be doing MASSIVE damage to enemies with high resistances, like Crystallions and Miners. Could a NPC's resistance play a part in the damage this deals?

                                    • Note when charging the spell: you can free-aim higher up to send the mist ball in an arc, where it'll hold its shape for a few seconds before spreading out. Very useful for gaining some distance while covering a significant area.

Also, this is how I destroyed the Frenzy-Flaming Tower summoners on my min-HP character. Charge casting it up through the floor has a wide enough radius to hit all but one through the floor, which you'll have to deal with yourself.

                                      • Anonymous

Works on crystallians without alarming them. Tested on the 3 that guard the rotten crystal sword in the haligtree.
Stand on the roots and cast it. It takes 4 casts to kill them.

Can collide with black fire fireball in midair, destroying it. Discovered it on a Godskin Noble in that snakes castle and only tried there.

Not sure of this has been pointed out but this can hit Rennala in her bubble in phase 1. You just have to pop the bubble once to deliver the final blow. Very useful for caster builds that struggle with her because of her magic resistance. It's also good in phase 2, just cast it at her and focus on dodging.

                                            • Anonymous

This REALLY helped against the trio crystalian bosses until I finally had enough. Summoned Pumpkin Head in the middle, dropped a warming stone for him, and tossed the mist in the middle of the chaos while keeping my distance with BHS. Worked wonders.

                                              • Anonymous

I've found a niche use for this in my taunters tongue playthrough. it is absolutely fantastic for zoning off chokepoints, like ladders or tunnels, giving yourself time to get to a grace or for a hunter to help

                                                • Anonymous

So it does 1500 damage overall regardless of INT level? because I tried it on one of the so called lesser rune bears in deeproot depths, they seem to have a massive health pool because this hardly made a dent in it. That wasn't because I only have 17 INT then?

                                                  • Anonymous

the damage it does can not be increased, so its very strong when you get it and the further you progress the less useful it will be. thats not to say it becomes useless though. once it stops being able to evaporate bosses you can still use it to great effect when you get swarmed by lesser enemies. cast at your feet and run to the edge of the cloud

                                                    • Anonymous

This spell deals a deceptively high amount of damage. If you're having trouble with a threatening foe, try putting down one or two of these and doing your best to bait them into it for as long as you can.

So this spell basically deals 1500 damage over its duration that doesn't scale with anything? Neither with intelligence nor with the staff's sorcery scaling? That sounds like THE strategy for RL1 no upgrades, right?

I use this on my monsoon (mgr) cosplay build, just pop it off and then use bloodhound step inside it to negate most of the damage while popping out to deal dual dagger attacks, don't worry yall I don't pvp it's just a fun thing for me to mess with in pve

                                                            • Anonymous

Don't really know what is in that room/tunnel ahead of you? Want to find out? Drop one of these and back up. If it doesn't die, you better get ready...

It's like Drano, clears $&!+ fast.

12 scarlet rot zombies? (yes that's in Haligtree Town) Takes out 9 of them and severely damages the rest. Pipes in Subterranean Shunning Gourds? Clears slimes by the dozen. Crystalians? Let's start the damage NOW! Bush wacker Imps? Drop this in the room and see what dies.

Seriously, Get this ASAP and use it often. Talk to Gowry and O'Neill is a cakewalk if you stand on the branch to the SW and Rock Sling him (which BTW Rock Sling and the Meteor Staff are not far away). If you're dedicated you can get this spell by level 4-5. It's that worth it.

There is nothing that matches this for slow moving mobs. Squirts, flowers, Erdtree Watchdogs, skeletons, slimes, Broken Statues, Runebears if caught properly, snails, octopi, low level bosses, even golems and dragons if they don't move around. 1500-1700 damage -doesn't appear to scale so it's impressive for low levels.

Just don't get yourself caught in the cloud. That's a red 'YOU DIED.'

Must-have spell for any low-level invaders. Hosts and their phantoms are so thirsty for your blood they'll run right into this oblivious to the damage it's doing and they're dead before they know it.

                                                                • Anonymous

                                                                  • Anonymous

                                                                    • Anonymous

                                                                      • Anonymous

It doesn’t destroy random ambient objects but it doesn’t need to

                                                                        • Anonymous

I had 50 int, no armor/talismans and tested against the Giants pulling the cart outside of Sellen's shop:
                                                                          +20 Staff of Loss: 1687
                                                                          Base Astrologer's staff: 1627...

Also there was 0 change in damage while wearing the Magic Scorpion Charm or the Godfrey Icon (Since charging just makes the cloud bigger but I figured Id test it anyway). However, as expected, the damage went up to 1716 with the Stargazer-Heirloom with the +20 Staff of Loss...... BUUUUUUTTTTTT Unexpectedly the Astrologer's Staff damage stayed the exact same at 1627.... This spell confuses me

                                                                          • Anonymous

This spell has been carrying my magic using *** even late game lol. It's fun to use tho seriously, over time you start to learn subtle tricks & ways it can assist in defeating ridiculous enemies / bosses, don't forget it can also be charged for a wider AoE.

For a little while I used it in the War-dead catacombs to farm, the enemies who fight each other will eventually gather down below in the rot water and continue fighting, at this point you cast mist into the crowd and giggle.

                                                                            • Anonymous

                                                                                • Anonymous

                                                                                  THIS
                                                                                  THIS SPELL IS WHY

crucible knights in melee? pretty hard died a few times
crucible knights vs this spell, cake walk, literally no damage taken

                                                                                  • Anonymous

Took me 243 kills with 197 discovery. Hey, at least I have 9 full sets of armor and 17 swords to go with my spear.

                                                                                    • Anonymous

easily one the best spells in the game, this thing clears mobs and destroys big bosses from day 1. and the best part you can cheese so many open world bosses with it. stack it with rotten breath and watch health bars melt before your eyes.

                                                                                      • Anonymous

This with poisoning or rot is a melting move. Have destroyed bosses in seconds with this combo. Then throw on the flies and get extra bleed damage while everything else hurts it......so much to melt

                                                                                        • Anonymous

Just because I haven't seen it mentioned here yet — this spell is the absolute best when you encounter enemies who are behind bars. The closed prison cells in the Gaol Cave can have most of the exploding skeletal enemies cleared out before you open up the cell doors. Additionally, on top of this being insanely efficient against slugs in the sewers of the Subterranean Shunning-Grounds, it also lets you take out a number of the Wraith Callers you can see at dead ends, making those paths worth going down even before you can turn them into shortcuts.

                                                                                          • Anonymous

Everyone's talking about how good for pve this spell is, but this really shines in pvp. Catches bloodhound step, denies area, goes around shields, and deals decent damage. Free aiming the projectile is a must.

                                                                                            • Anonymous

Not as good as DS3's Pestilent Mist, as it isn't HP% based and does aggro enemies

                                                                                              Still alot of fun though

                                                                                              • Anonymous

Cast this on them while you cowardly hide on some corner and watch them die a suffocating death. Lob them to stationary targets it's what I'm saying ;P
