People. People. People.
Some weapons scale MUCH better when you are running a QUALITY Build (Strength = Dexterity).
This Weapon is one of them.
Some weapons flow much better when you Powerstance them (No pun attended).
This Weapon is one of them.
Also, its unique skill has a surprise factor in duels.

You can scratch your back with this for now, until they add that hand-shaped tool the merchants use to play music with.

Nox people did really know how good a Shotel is.
It's really gonna combine well with a Shotel too.

I found the weapon I was confusing this with. Urumi. (Whip)
I can imagine using the two together could be fun.

At release, there was a weapon that had a long-reaching piercing attack that shot the pointy tip directly forwards. I thought it was this one, but maybe not? Anyone know what weapon that was?

- Anonymous
Of course the sword that gives you a long-reaching "stay away from me" option that you find in magic town can't be infused with magic. Makes perfect sense!
- Anonymous
L2 on this and the hammer should've been a temporary transform state like the aquamarine dagger in DS3 that gives you alternate R1s and R2s
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
This ash is better than the flowing hammer. The hammer does little to no poise damage, this does.
- Anonymous
Really wish this weapon and the hammer would have the flowing effect on the normal moveset considering it's unique design, to be made like a relatively low scaling curved sword in exchange for a lot of reach for crowd control.
As it is it's just a one trick pony where better alternatives exist.

I'd buff these weapons in the following way:
Option A:
Make them buffable
Option B:
Add magic/frost dmg and intelligence scaling, at least C rating
Option C:
Allow them to have follow ups or retain their flowing form for other combos like lunges or spinning attacks.
- Anonymous
You don't use it for raw damage or abusing status afflictions, you use it because Flowing Form is really good.
- Anonymous
Hey mom can we get Urumi?
We have Urumi at home.
Urumi at home.

The unique Ash of War that turns the weapons into a whip is really good because it has really good range, hits hard, and goes through walls. Its a bit slow however so you kinda have to use it in the same scenarios that you´d use an estus
- Anonymous
Would have been nice with arc scaling that scales to physical damage, would have been thematic to the mimic helmet and occult whetblade

In the "Red Rising" sci-fi series by Pierce Brown, there is a type of sword that can turn into a whip, and can be adjusted into any fixed shape one wants. The main character fixes his sword into a scythe. Also, there are people who dress themselves in wolves' skins. So this plus Blaidd's armor, and I can sorta cosplay into a whole new level of nerdiness.

You’re better off just using the urumi whip if you want an actual flowing sword type weapon. The weapon art on this thing is utterly terrible. The normal attacks should have resembled those used by the enemies.

Wow no ash, no spell buffs(like bloodflame), no resin, **** sucks wtf is this garbo
- Anonymous
This should have a special powerstance with the flowing hammer. :/ Like the wakizashi/katana combo.
- Anonymous
I feel like it needs a lot more stagger if it's gonna lock you in place so long for a quick hit
- Anonymous
it feels like it should have a follow up attack on its skill instead of freezing you in place for 5 seconds
- Anonymous
Fun fact: if you cancel a charge attack with a roll or backstep with this weapon, you do an awesome secret attack.
- Anonymous
Urumi's charged heavy attacks change its form, why the hell does it need to be a locked skill for this one?
- Anonymous
Urumi is better at being a sword than Nox Flowing Sword at being a whip.

Only complaint is the weapon art is to lackluster, it kinda feels like you can do another whip strike or a series but you can only do it once all the while you cant move, so I have to ask, why?
- Anonymous
has pretty good damage and scaling and is among one of the longest curved swords. It's shield pierce and unique weapon art make it a solid invasion tool for people hiding behind walls and turtles.

I think the exact advantage of this weapon hasn't really been posted so here, this is GREAT as an extremely early pure DEX somber weapon.
Just go straight to the trap chest in Dragonburnt ruins, get to Sellia and complete the puzzle to get access to the bossfight, be sure to grab Sellia Backstreets grace for quick runback as well.
I was able to do this as unleveled Warrior starter class fairly easily, also opens up the best NPC quest early which is nice
If you're struggling with the fight unleveled grab the rotten Stray ashes from Sellia, it will almost ALWAYS target the Nox monk and while it won't kill him directtly it'll easily proc rot while you deal with the swordstress.

I love how if you 2hand the sword you’re hand is basically grabbing the air under the pommel XD

Would've loved to see the shotels with the reaper crit animations

It's not bad, but there're other weapons that can do a better job than this one.
- Anonymous
Pretty effective in invasions. The WA can go through walls and deals more damage than one might initially think, as well as stuns. Then can follow up with quick roll catches.

Low scaling, but very high base damage, especially for a shotel. Get this early and it will treat you well. Later on you'll probably put it away, but it can make shielded soldiers and corner ambushes a little easier to deal with
- Anonymous
Would have been cool if you could swap movesets to a whip by using the WA like Bloodborn.

In case the comments on the wiki were turning you off of this weapon, a few bright spots to make it worth at least equipping once:
1. Same shape as Shotel but better AR. Actually does pretty reasonable damage for a curved sword.
2. It does not only have "block piercing" - the weapon shape can actually just reach around shields. I had the nox flowing sword in my offhand powerstanced with scavenger's curved, and a jumping attack followed by a second L1 seemed to consistently bonk shielded soldiers / knights / tiny nokron weirdos in the noggin and stagger them. I don't even think the 40% shield piercing does anything because it so consistently just goes around shields and gets the enemy in the eyeballs.
3. The whip attack is a little underwhelming, the range isn't phenomenal, you're glued in place during the animation, and it is a kind of slow animation. That said I was still regularly swapping to 2-handing this to use the WA to clear out a horde of smaller enemies or to slap big knights or whatever with a ranged attack. it also seems to do surprisingly good damage, seems like it was hitting for 350-400 on my character who only has 19 dex and +5 upgrade on the weapon.

It's a **** Urumi
Maybe you'd catch someone off guard with it, if they were lobotomized. You still have a locked WA sword where you spend FP to be Urumi. Disgraceful.
- Anonymous
Sure i get why you can't change the ash of war, but I'm dissapointed you can't even use weapon buffs
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
Did they just speed up the weapon art in 1.04 ? It feels significantly faster.
- Anonymous
When 2-handing, the character's hand just sits at the end of the pommel, holding nothing.
- Anonymous
There's a hidden effect I've discovered with the weapon art. Just like how the sword melts into a whip, I've noticed that it can also cause your eyes to melt, during the 5 hours it takes to use the weapon art. I wouldn't recommend it since I currently cannot see, but maybe I'm just lacking vision of the weapon as a whole. Maybe I'm just blind to the possibilities, or I cannot see the bigger picture. I cannot look at this weapon and say it's viable. This is just from my point of view though, which is very dark.

I love that watery and goopy noise from using the skill that stretches out the blade and whips it out.
- Anonymous
Why not give this weapon at least a flowing sword combo on heavy hits. WA very slow and underwhelming dmg. It's just a regular Shotel with a bad WA.
- Anonymous
Confirmed that this pierces shields like the Shotel, R2s are more effective for it. Weapon art also goes through walls, which is pretty much its only utility
- Anonymous
Its like they took the speed out of all the WA and gave it all to the Moonvile Katana WA

They REALLY need to buff this thing’s skill. Make it more like the Nox hammer’s or at least as fast as a regular whip attack.

In discription ash no 1 hit, its fast hits, this weapon with bug, or what, why monk using 2 and 3 hit combo, 1 hit slow charge wtf???

Cool have been a very cool sword, but to me there's 2 problems;
- It's super ugly, way too curved.
- The whip form is only a single hit. Wouldv been cool to have like a bloodborne-like toggle, or at least a 2 or 3 hits like the enemies using this have.
That being said, the weapon art hits surprisingly hard and ofc covers lots of ground.

in case anyone hasnt discovered it yet, this weapon has a cool hidden movement skill. charge a power attack, cancel it by backstepping/dodging while quickly directing the camera back and to the side, and youll do a turning aerial maneuver that can be followed up by a lunge attack. its difficult to get the hang of and youll have to practice it for a bit to get the feel of controlling it, but its an AMAZING mobility skill, and very unpredictable especially because you can orient and end up facing either side of your opponent. that combined with the 40%+ block ignore and the (albeit a little underwhelming compared to alternatives) whip-like skill makes this a very unique and apparently underrated/disregarded weapon. think about the Coded Swords unblockable skill. this is similar to that, only ~half ignore, physical instead of holy damage, and with EVERY ATTACK. and dual wielded with quality or keen and light roll, it can really be difficult for others to deal with and confusing for them to try and predict and adapt to. extremely mobile weapon, and very well balanced considering all its aspects. pair with a seal and/or perfumes/pots to diversify with elemental and quick buffs.
this is a skillful weapon, not a big bonk weapon. its a tradeoff, requiring more of you with less immediately evident advantage, but if you USE IT RIGHT it offers a very advantageous and unpredictable style that can do circles around enemies. that means its not for everyone, obviously. but just remember that while this may be an impotent weapon in the hands of someone who doesnt flow well with it (huehue) and they may do WAY better with a big honkin battering ram, that doesnt mean someone skilled with this weapon cant put them to shame.
