Temporarily boosts all damage negations in physick
|
Opaline Hardtear is a Crystal Tear in Elden Ring. Crystal Tears can be mixed in the Flask of Wondrous Physick to enhance its effect.
A crystal tear formed slowly over ages where the Erdtree's bounty falls to the ground.
Can be mixed in the Flask of Wondrous Physick.
The resulting concoction temporarily boosts all forms of damage negation.
Where to find Opaline Hardtear
- Dropped by Putrid Avatar next to the Minor Erdtree north of Fort Faroth in Caelid. [Map Link]
Elden Ring Opaline Hardtear Notes & Tips
- Increases all damage negation types by 15% for 3 minutes.
- The bonus is reduced to 10% in PvP.
- Can stack with other sources of protections (talismans, consumables)
- When paired with Boiled Crab and either Dragoncrest Shield Talisman or Dragoncrest Greatshield Talisman can grant - with proper armor - even 60% damage negation towards physical-type damage.
- You can find Crystal Tears at the bases of Minor Erdtrees, and elsewhere throughout the Lands Between.
- At sites of grace, you can mix two crystal tears in the Flask of Wondrous Physick. (This will allow you to create elixirs with various custom effects.)

the pvp nerf is a little unwarranted imo, its a one-time buff and has pretty steep diminishing returns
- Anonymous
I read the description and not believing it but still use it because maybe it's true. One time i use another flask instead of this and i die even faster so i immediately realize that the description is not bullshit and use it again.

There is a glitch, at least during invasions, where opaline + crimsonwhorl causes the crimsonwhorl to last much longer than 15 seconds. Not sure how this hasn't been patched yet. Tested again today and it is still there
- Anonymous
This one had diminishing returns. If you have exactly 0% defenses it grants you another 15%.
However if you have higher defenses, lets say 25% from your armor, then it only gives you about 10% addition defense. So the more armor and defense you have, the better off you are just using the regeneration tear.
- Anonymous
Not using this comes at the opportunity cost of taking 17,6% more damage. I don't know of a single Crystal Tear that is worth that cost, so imo this is a must for any PVE uses. (Except for when you are one of those players who don't ever get hit, but in that case it literally doesn't matter what you use)

Second best tear for PvE and best for PvP, for my play-style.
I'm 99% sure this is just better than the Crimsonspill Crystal Tear, because that only increases your Maximum Health CAPACITY by 10%, not your actual current health. You'll need to drink a Flask to get the full benefit, whereas you don't need to do that for this because it directly boosts your negation instead. And in PvE, this just gives you 5% more effective health than the Crimsonspill, it's not even a contest. The only exceptions I can think of are the Branchsword Talismans and the Twinbird Kite Shield, which effects are determined off of your maximum health capacity in relation to your current health.

i use this and the dragoncrast and pearldrake talismans on my ultra tank build. despite all being nerfed in pvp, the little buffs add up

Absolutely amazing tear. Remember that this is doubly beneficial against enemies and players that deal more than two types of damage and especially split damage attacks since it will be 10% physical and 10% other affinity. Treat this as the boiled crab dose for your physick which means more defense is always helpful for every situation at little cost.

The closest anyone can get to wearing a fifth piece of armor. Definitely one of the better tears. Epitome of " Just become unstoppable, forehead ".

As of 1.06 (or maybe before idk), this tear also boosts physical damage negation!
- Anonymous
has anybody actually tested if they fixed the phys dmg thing or are all of you just parroting the patch notes
- Anonymous
For pvp, speckled hard tear is better generally. If you’re running heavy armor that 10% abs buff is actually about 6-7%. The health boost tear would actually give you a true 10% health buff. Then regen might give you even more if a duel drags out. This tear has great applications for pve however.

Cited from the 1.06 patch notes: "Fixed a bug which caused the “Opaline Hardtear” to not boost physical damage negation"
So now it finally should do what the item description says...
- Anonymous
Just got patched in 1.0.6 It now properly also reduces physical dmg negation.
- Anonymous
By the way, it should add physical damage reduction now. Test to confirm and fix WIKI please :D. As someone who enjoys playing as an absorption tank, this is a highly welcome change. 80% absorb here we go!

patch notes 1.06 seems to have fixed the physical damage negation issue, though i have no idea by how much (i assume the same as the elemental damage negation)
- Anonymous
It boosts physical negation now, as of patch 1.06. Very good tear.
- Anonymous
They FINALLY made this actually work as intended. It now increases physical damage negation as of the new patch.
- Anonymous
New update fixed the tear from not decreasing physical negation
- Anonymous
this has been patched to also increase physical damage. i have not tested it yet but assume its the same increase of +15% and +10% in pvp.

Patch Notes Version 1.06: "Fixed a bug which caused the “Opaline Hardtear” to not boost physical damage negation." It was never lying at all! Praise be tank builds
- Anonymous
It now applies to Physical damage too as of the latest patch. 1.06

New patch made it so it actually boosts physical damage negation

Patch 1.06 notes: "Fixed a bug which caused the “Opaline Hardtear” to not boost physical damage negation"
- Anonymous
Just noticed in the patch notes for 1.06: apparently this was always supposed to increase physical damage negation too. Haven't tested to see the precise numbers yet but if this thing adds a 10% physical damage negation on top of the others, it becomes a lot more attractive for PvP.
- Anonymous
They fixed it, Oppaline Hardtear now boosts physical resistance as well.

Patch 1.06 made it so this tear properly increase physical reduction as well.

Latest patch as of today: Fixed a bug which caused the “Opaline Hardtear” to not boost physical damage negation
- Anonymous
Patch 1.06 confirmed that the Opaline Hardtear not boosting physical damage negation to be a bug; it now boosts physical damage negation by about 10% I believe
- Anonymous
Patchnotes for 1.06 confirmed that the lack of physical damage negation was a bug, it has now been fixed.
- Anonymous
It got buffed: now also reduces physical damage negation with the latest patch!
- Anonymous
Apparently it was a bug that this didn't boost physical negation, and it was fixed in patch 1.06
I'm guessing that it now provides a 10% physical negation buff in PvP? Seems pretty decent if that is the case.
- Anonymous
Patch 1.06 has fixed this to now include physical damage negation! Yes!!!
- Anonymous
As of patch 1.06 - "Fixed a bug which caused the “Opaline Hardtear” to not boost physical damage negation"
It should be updated
- Anonymous
as patch 1.06 this tear also boost physical damage too by 15%
- Anonymous
Patch 1.06 added physical damage negation! Apparently it was a bug that is now fixed!
- Anonymous
Recent patch stated the lack of physical damage resistance was a bug and has been fixed, so...
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
Fixed in 1.06 - it now boosts physical as well by 15%. With Golden Vow + Black Flame protection + Dragoncrest shield talisman, you can now easily get 65+ physical resist on medium armour which makes many enemies mostly trivial.
- Anonymous
So...does this stack with other resistance buffs and talismans? I'm not really feeling the difference in battle (using resist talisman and incantation in parallel)
- Anonymous
They need to update the description of this item in game. Unless it was a translation error which is also likely cuz this does NOT boost ALL damage negation. It only boosts magic and all the elemental dmg negation. Only worth it if facing magical enemies. For the rest of the game this is pretty much a worthless tear.
- Anonymous
Wait, what?! I've been using this tear for like 80 hours and it doesn't boost physical damage?! It says boosts ALL damage negation. Everytime I used it, I was always kind of disappointed because it never seemed to help very much, but I just kept using it because of the description. I figured it had to be helping even if I didn't notice. Now I know why. That should be be clarified in the next patch.
- Anonymous
Lies about what it does and doesn't mention being neutered in PvP, classic
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
Mine says, significantly reduces damage.
It reduces damage by 95, allowing you to tank one hit.
I use it with my rock blaster.
This thing is amazing.
Thank you professor Farnsworth.
It's now called the Farnsworth Bubble.
- Anonymous
Gotta love descriptions that just straight-up lie about what they do
- Anonymous
Lol. This stacks with barrier of gold, 85% magic damage negation. Rip mages.
- Anonymous
Guys this thing isn't useless, chill, it stacks with Black Flame Protection, and all other damage negation Incantations, dunno if stacks with Prawn but I'm not sure, missed them on my playthrough, this plus BFP = megatank, try it out. I tested on Faith/Arcane/Dex with Communion Seal
- Anonymous
This is just a mistranslation. In Japanese physical defense is referred to as 防御力 (defensive strength) in the Status screen while Elemental defense is called カット率 (cut percentage).
The description says it ups all cut percentage which I guess the translator never looked at the status screen and assume it referred to all defenses.
- Anonymous
thanks, frognation, for yet another spectacular mistranslation. as if butchering ranni's dialog wasn't bad enough.
- Anonymous
Wow, cant believe I have been using this for 120 hours and its basically useless. Trolled by item descriptions once again. Wonder if its another case of the 'wonderful' English translation.
- Anonymous
gosh, even the item descriptions are trying to troll you. i've been equipping this in my flask for physical battles and turns out it was doing absolutely nothing. does their incompetence know no bounds? the 20th thing i've had to look up that doesn't work like it's supposed to. this stacks, that doesn't, we cheat here, you get nerfed for pvp there. utter crap.
- Anonymous
"All damage negations"
But only does elemental damage. Hopefully an oversight on their end.
- Anonymous
I'm pretty sure this stacks with Golden Vow even though it replaces the symbol for the busf because both effects remain onyour character still. Can anyone confirm this fully?
For anyone that wants to argue less % increase = diminishing returns, learn what effective health is. 90 Damage Reduction is a 10x increase of your HP. If you have 1,000HP you do 1,000/(1-.9) which is 10,000. Another instance of 90% Damage Reduction assuming multiplicative would be 99% Damage Reduction which is another 10x increase of your HP. 1,000/(1-.99) which is 100,000. If there was diminishing returns you wouldn't see another 10x increase of your hp from the same damage reduction...
- Anonymous
I've been using it and it brings all my physical resistance from 30ish to 93. Definitely not a bug either cause I definitely can take more hits. And my elementals from 9-12% to 93
- Anonymous
Disregard my last comment the baseline reduction was from the bubble tear..shame
- Anonymous
This thing actually lowers physical dmg negation by -15 points each and slighly buffs elemental negation by 2 to 3 points..... WTF
- Anonymous
"Note that Damage Negation Have Diminishing Returns, Stacking a +15% and a +20% won't give 35% but 32%."
There's no diminishing returns, that's how math works. 1-(1-.15)*(1-.2)=32%
Remove that nonsense about "diminishing returns". Embarrassing to read.

description is correct but the map link is to the wrong tree
- Anonymous
It lasts 3 minutes, a fairly long time compared to the other crystal tears. It might be a decent option in PVP for pure melee builds, since a ton of people (most?) are casters. Anything that helps you close the gap without getting one-shot helps.
- Anonymous
This will be much better if they actually make it increase physical negation too.

"Temporarily boosts all damage negations in physick" when it's in fact only boosts elemental ones is pretty misleading.
can the devs start to be more direct in their descriptions?
i see people discussing between this and Crimsonpill Tear, whereas i use both of them, they are my go-to buff duo at any times, goes well with a striker-tank build which includes full Bull-Goat Set, Erdtree's Favor +2, Dragoncrest Greatshield Talisman, Pearldrake Talisman +2, and also may also include Radagon's Soreseal (the one i use) or Crimson Amber Medallion +2 or Ritual Shield Talisman or Blue-Feathered Branchsword.
Now for those aiming more on the healing-side of tanking, i'd go for a Crimson Crystal Tear paired with Crimsonburst Crystal Tear combo, as for the rest of the build, Royal Remains Set with Icon Shield on the offhand, Blessed Dew Talisman, Crimson Seed Talisman, Godskin Swaddling Cloth and also either Taker's Cameo or Assassin's Crimson Dagger or even Blue-Feathered Branchsword (which goes great alongside the Royal Remains Set), also gonna want to make sure your main weapon is equipped with the likes of Prayerful Strike, Blood Tax or Lifesteal Fist, either that or you can go for Blasphemous Blade or Devourer's Scepter, though i'd go for a Great Stars with Prayerful Strike.
