I usually hate using a named weapon simply cuz it feels like i'm using another person's tool, but man I'm loving this sword with crucible armor and spells. That red-gold color is godly like sssaaaaaapppppp

This and the spear should have been unique weapons (visually too) with their own skills and then had separate infusible weapons wielded by unnamed crucible knights.
Does the Ash of War scale with Faith? Strength and Faith? Just the weapon level?

Now that they massively buffed devonia's hammer's AOW, which is almost exactly the same as this, why can't they change this weapon's AOW to Aspects of the Crucible:Wings? It would make alot more sense and legitimize the weapon since i've seen sword crucible knights use it.

Look, it's Devonia weapon, but a Sword! Cool! It even has the same Weapon Skill too!

Which is the best Crucible cosplay weapon? My vote's gotta be on the Siluria's Tree. Ordovis's Greatsword hits like a truck, but it just can't compete with the Tree's range IMO.
If you're an STR build, this GS is a great tool to shred tough field enemies and some bosses, eps the ones with high and infinite poise. Invest (or boost) your Faith into a mere 20-30 points and you're good to go. In the DLC, I tested it against the Divine Horned Warriors and Divine Beast & Birds Warriors, they range from 4K-10K HP. You can 1 shot them with the fully-charged Ordovis Vortex, either thru good spacing or from their back (because they can't be backstabbed) - don't forget to equip Shard of Alexander and Godrey Icon, also your FGMS and Golden Vow buffs. You can also use the same AoW against the Golem Smithes and they will be staggered for you to riposte crits.
Perfect for one-two shotting bosses (or tough field enemies). Throw some unga-bunga rocks before, if they get knock down or staggered, make your spacing and then slap with this bad boy. Coolest W ever besides the Gold Breaker finisher.

They give us the Moonrithyll knight sword and the Bonny butcher knife, but they can't give us a version of this with Crucible: Wings on it? : (

jesus. i get that the charge animation is long as hell and the charge attack should be rewarded but holy ******* mother of god 66 stance damage. this damn sword is worth it.

66? Sixty-f*cken-six stance damage!?!?!?

Does the Ash of War get buffed by wearing the Crucible Armor set? Can't seem to find any decisive anwsers to that.

after looking at devonia's hammer, perhaps i treated you too harshly...

Used this on Rellana. After getting a crit, I used the charged AOW on her to get her to half, and then another when she was transforming. This staggered her a second time letting me get two crits in like 15 seconds. With Blade of Mercy, I did another fully charged when she was getting up and it killed her

Just knowing the letter doesn't always tell the story. This thing is a hair's breadth from S scaling. Before just rushing str though, remember the generous elemental scaling curve/softcaps. You get 80% of faith scaling at 50 faith. It is still worth getting that early high faith scaling.
- Anonymous
Don't let the faith scaling confuse you, this is a strength weapon through and through

after finally managing to secure a 7/10 victory rate while using this weapon with my Crucible Knight cosplay, I can give tips on how to use this in Colesseum. If you're using Bullgoat with Godfrey Icon, then taking on typical fighters who don't know your style is all about baiting them into a Poise Battle with you. if you have 100 poise, which you should have close to if ur Bullgoating with Crucible set, the hyper armor on Ordovis's sword skill will allow you to plow right through even some overpowered weapon arts like spinning slash and smash them for half their health or more.. BUT you gotta time it right. Recognize their weapon, recognize what they will try and use it to predict when to activate the weapon art. The sword's art has a timing flaw that will allow them to dodge constantly if they're quick though, so don't over-rely on it, and learn to use Aspect Horn and Tail to supplement this flaw as well as a few Bestial Incantations (the rock brothers) to deal with magic users or slashing down any remaining slivers of health. Sometimes if your opponent is predicting your art too much, you can FULL charge the skill to throw off their timing.
Overall Ordovis's Greatsword is a highly respectable weapon in pvp imo. Its neither too overpowered due to its ease of dodging compared to the likes of Rivers and other Cancer Weapons, nor is its weapon art just grossly unusable like a big number of other weapons in souls games in the pvp spectrum. Very good weapon and build for a fair fight and melee exchange. Remember to two hand it often, The sword actually has surprisingly good reach.

Of all the weapons I've ever used this is by far my favourite, using this and the crucible armour and golden order spells really makes you feel like a holy Paladin of The Golden order.
- Anonymous
Gigachad Holy Sword that works great with Crucible spells for combos and great with Gigachad armour set, what more do you want Warrior?
- Anonymous
the weapon skill does really well in pvp, but it goes above and betond if you wear the whole crucible set and equip bull goat talisman and have 60 vigor, its ****ing nuts

The hyperarmor on the L2 is absolutely busted. I had someone hit me twice with an UGS while I charged it and I still got it off. At 52 poise.

Ordovi's Vortex is incredible.
Uncharged is just a better R2: almost as fast as uncharged R2, more damage than fully charged R2, crazy hyperarmour, and AoE on top of that, only for 15 FP (12 with Carian Filigreed Crest).
Charged does earthshattering damage, is boosted by both Shard of Alexander and Godgrey's Icon for absurd damage, instantly stunlocks most enemies that somehow survive the hit and still costs 15 FP.
I'm marrying this sword and nobody is going to stop me.

if this thing had the knight's gs moveset I wouldn't use any other weapon
- Anonymous
Dang, I was really hoping this would have their lunging thrust running attack.
- Anonymous
I guess not, but do Axe Talisman + Spiked Cracked Tear work on the charged L2 special attack?
- Anonymous
The hyper armor the AoW adds seems pretty substantial. Tried a bit on NG+ with Dagger's Talisman, Carian Filigreed Crest, Assassin's Crimson Dagger and the Sacrificial Axe in my off hand. If the AoW doesn't one shot an enemy, it will likely stagger then. You can trade through any damage, and recover a nice chunk of HP with the Assassin's Crimson Dagger. I'm sure the Dagger's Talisman isn't necessary for most PvE enemies but it nice on bosses.

- Anonymous
sure, yeah, unique L2s are cool the first few hundred times. but I would have given both nuts to have this thing's moveset include the ground-dragging heavy attack, the running horizontal slash, the heal-punish thrust, basically *any* of the swordfighting techniques the crucible knights themselves use.
- Anonymous
If you use faith-knot crystal tear with this, not only to you get some more AR from the extra faith, but you also end up with a perfect 25 faith, which is exactly what you need to cast golden vow. Do with this what you will (nuke bosses in half).
- Anonymous
Drink stonebarb cracked tear and just go to town with the AoW on Malenia. Breaks her stance with 1 fully charged use. Follow with a critical then charge it up again and repeat until she is dead. I felt bad.
- Anonymous
Bothers me a tiny bit that this has slightly different base damage allocation and scaling to the crucible knight spear, but different enough to mean that a build that's build for one of the crucible knight weapons doesn't necessarily support the other. For example the crucible knight spear is perfectly fine on a faith leaning str/fai build due to equal base damage and equal scaling but this sword demands a strength leaning str/fai build. It stops being an issue at high enough levels when you can just invest heavily in both though.

L2 spammers weapon of choice. PKCS requires more skill than this tryhard weapon-PKCS Pope

You just never, EVER get tired of using this thing's weapon art.
Few weapons capture barely contained divine fury as well as this one.

For anyone wanting to make out strength just for this weapon, I ask you to reconsider once hitting around 50-60 strength. Once you hit 60, instead of aiming for 70, go for 10 more faith than is required. If your weapon is max it will not only do more damage with putting the next 10 points into faith, but will also give you access to golden vow which buffs weapon damage. You could also do this switch at 50 since it is about 6 less damage if you put the next 10 levels into faith, but it makes up for it and more with golden vow.

In theory it sounds cool doing a cosplay of a crucible knight but the manlet sized tarnished makes it seem like child's halloween costume.

i wonder if this sword is actually made of copper. not only does it look like it, but both this sword and the regalia of eochaid have skills where you telekinetically move the sword, and that sword's description says that its copper is the conduit for that ability. the crucible armor also seems to be made of the same material as this sword if the color is anything to go by, and its description states it "holds the power of the crucible of life" which boosts crucible incants, abilities which consist of you forming an appendage of some sort and manipulating it like its part of your body. if you think about it these abilities are not too far off from each other, you're essentially channeling your will into something that's not actually part of your body and moving it like it is. in conclusion, "primordial gold" might just be copper question mark? not a whole lot to go on tho, maybe the dlc will give us some more eochaid stuff

This weapon art and Greater Combustion, are 2 of the biggest reasons not to chase someone in PvP.
- Anonymous
The versatility, the synergy with other weapons and incantations, the poise breaking and the surprisingly low fp cost aow with a massive aoe and wild hyperarmor, the majority physical damage, being a greatsword in general...
One of the overall best weapons pve in the game needless to say.
- Anonymous
I wanted so badly to use the shield effectivley with this, but one handing it with 55 str and 47 fai make me lose over 100 AR.
- Anonymous
I once stance-broke malenia out of her waterfoul dance with this sacred earthshaker
- Anonymous
Just here to say: crucible axe helm+ altered crucible tree chest + the rest of it gives 69 poise
- Anonymous
Oddly, this weapon was correctly spelled as Ordovis' Greatsword before released which is the correct way to spell a pocessive word that ends in S. But then was changed to Ordovis's Greatsword which means Ordovis is Greatsword. I don't know of any other grammatical mistakes besides the intentionally cartoonish medieval dialog.
- Anonymous
Doesn't Thundercloud form has the highest stance damage of 70?
- Anonymous
The charged ash of war eats through enemy poise like anything. The charged ash of war if it fully connects does 66 poise damage on pve enemies, the highest that can be achieved in a single button press without using poise damage boosting cracked tear.

As a str/fai build, this guy has been carrying me for the 2nd half of the game after the Golden Halberd carried me the first half. Don't let anyone tell you holy weapons are trash in this game, they have actually made my playing experience relatively easier than it probably should've been lol.

Does the charged Ash of War benefit from consecutive hit buffs?

I and my fellow Strength-Faith enjoyers appreciate this weapon quite a lot. Praise the lord!

**slaps** this bad boy can melt and stagger holy resistant enemies like nothing
Why does with weapon have such a high strengh requirement? Even the Blasphemous Blade only requires 22 strength although it has a higher weight. For balancing reasons? The Blasphemous Blade is still far more viable than this weapon.
- Anonymous
You don't know true terror until a fully charged "aspect of the crucible: horns" lands on you and you land right at the center of this weapon's already charged ash of war.
- Anonymous
Slap this together with Godfrey Icon and watch the game just melt away.

i wonder why this is pierce? there is no pierce attack in its moveset. all i can think is that maybe the skill is the pierce type.
- Anonymous
I'm kinda disappointed that this thing charged heavy isn't that poke that can get you from across the room that the Shield Crucibles can do.
- Anonymous
Can't believe no one has mentioned how good this thing is for cheesing Malenia... srsly, hit her with the first charged L2 and you've won the fight! Rinse and repeat til she's dead.
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
With 60 strength, the physical damage of this weapon still makes it still useful for the final bosses with, but I still find it wanting when it comes to killing Malenia.
Magma Wyrm’s Scalesword is a good weapon to switch to for killing her, but be warned that you will need 15 points into dexterity to use it.
Otherwise both weapons seem to benefit the most from use on a 60 Strength and 40 Faith build.
The Clawmark Seal and Two handed weapon use get a you a tarnished that competes with the power of a pure strength player and the incantation casting of a pure faith player.
Faith can be easily dropped to 25 if you are alright with losing out on getting decent incantation damage.
it's always the spinny weapons...if the weapon spins, it does 5k damage.

After the buff, this thing absolutely slaps. The uncharged version is insanely fast now and does good damage with massive hyperarmor and good AOE. The charged version, when combined with Godfrey Icon and Shard of Alexander, can absolutely nuke the health of some bosses. I haven't even gotten to the best part which is that this thing does a ridiculous amount of poise damage. Two fully charged weapon arts will basically stagger any boss. This, combined with the extreme hyperarmor, means that I can see a viable hit-trading build with heavy armor where you just spam the fully charged weapon art to destroy bosses, since only a few big attacks can truly interupt the weapon art..
Recommended to spec mostly into strength rather than faith since the physical is where the majority of the damage comes from, plus it has much better scaling with strength.
The only problem I have with this thing is that the range of the actual weapon seems shorter than average for a greatsword. Other than that, it is worth it to go through the horrendous double crucible knight boss fight for. Cheese them with Blasphemous blade and get this baby.
- Anonymous
could anyone give me AR stats for this?
wondering if i should balance or focus a single stat
- Anonymous
I used it before the buff and it was definitely the best great sword. But now it’s just over the top. L2 speed boost was welcome but unnecessary. The hyper armor on uncharged is absolutely ridiculous though, no reason I should be able to face tank a great hammer on reaction L2. Fortunately most peeps spamming it don’t level faith past the minimum, so I steam roll meta chasers spamming it with my own L2. I hope they revert the hyperarmor on uncharged L2
- Anonymous
Update the sword, its now pretty good. No ROB before 1 06 but after 1.07 its a plain Jane game. Nothing stands out, nothing exciting. Just pick whatever and your good. Glad I played before the game was butchered
- Anonymous
Damn this thing is good now. Maybe then even overbuffed it? The increased speed is nice but its also have a massive hyperarmor which might be a little too bit too much
- Anonymous
God damn did the update make the uncharged ash quick, bless From for actually nerfing crouch poke crutches and buffing this beauty. 10/10

this and the armor make the crappy dungeon they're in completely worth it

If you’re going for a Crucible Knight playthrough, consider the Regalia of Eochaid instead. Much better AoW and isn’t as sluggishly bulky.

I use this in my off hand with the blasphemous blade, I love it.
such a cool weapon which makes it a total shame that it’s almost not worth it to have the fight the boss and go through the god awful dungeon

If only this thing had the disgustingly long range thrust that the Crucible Knights themselves love to use whenever you so much as think about sipping your flask, it would've been perfect for a cosplay build, but of course it just gets the standard greatsword moveset, they could've atleast have given it the same r2s as the Claymore, big sadge.

I really love trying to find opportunities to use this and not get hit in boss fights, you have to get creative with strafing and positioning but it feels so rewarding
