PvP or Player versus Player for Elden Ring is an Online feature where players can challenge and fight other players. Players may only enter PvP by two means: one is by invading another player who is in a co-op session (or being invaded by other players), and the other is by being invited into another player's world via a PvP summon item. This page contains information regarding the guidelines, various mechanics for the PvP combat system.
Invasions in Elden Ring
Invasions still occur during single-player gameplay. They are initiated by NPC Invaders and function identically to PvP invasions. However, these invasions often bear relation to Elden Ring's story and occur only at specific Locations.
See our Summon Range Calculator to figure out how to matchmake for PvP sessions.
How do I Start the Invasion in Elden Ring?
In order to engage in any kind of Multiplayer activity, players will need to obtain a multiplayer item. These items are usually consumable. The Festering Bloody Finger is a consumable item that can be purchased and is a good example of an item that will allow you to attempt to invade another player's world as a Bloody Finger. The Bloody Finger is a nonconsumable version of this item. PvP Summoning signs can also be put down with a Duelist's Furled Finger to gain the chance to be summoned by other players in a competitive multiplayer interaction. The sign must be located by another player in the same location within their game. Each Multiplayer item has their own uses and effects. Each of them can be found below.
How do I get out of an Elden Ring Invasion?
A host of Finger can choose a summoned player and send the back to their world with a Finger Severer. This can also be used when you have been summoned to another player's world to return to your own world.
Can Invaders kill Bosses Elden ring?
Once in a successful invasion, as an invader you will not be attacked by any AI enemies you come across. You also won't be able to to go through any Boss Fog Gates to interact with any Bosses. However those with the White Cipher Ring can use this item to summon help from other players when being invaded by a Bloody Finger which is the complementing item to the Blue Cipher Ring which allows you to be summoned by those with a White Cipher Ring. For Boss help, you can Use a Furcalling Finger Remedy to locate any summon signs in the area near these Boss gates. Summoning players this way will allow them to player with you cooperatively.
Special PvP Scaling
As of Patch 1.07, some Weapons, Skills and Magic Spells have unique scaling that only applies when playing vs another player. This scaling does not affect cooperative multiplayer or solo play, and is used to balance PvP independently from PvE.
PvP Exclusive balance adjustments
- Increased stamina attack power in PvP for all attacks against guarded foes, except for long-ranged weapons.
- Improved poise damage in PvP for every weapon’s normal attack, except for Skills and long-ranged weapons.
- With a few exceptions, the power of Ashes of War in PvP has been lowered across the board.
- The power of the following incantations in PvP has been decreased: Dragonfire / Agheel's Flame / Glintstone Breath / Smarag's Glintstone Breath / Rotten Breath / Ekzykes's Decay / Dragonice / Borealis's Mist / Unendurable Frenzy
Do I have to invade in Elden Ring?
Invasions are an optional multiplayer feature. Players who prefer to play the game solo can choose to remain solo by not interacting with any multiplayer items even while connected to the internet. However, if you do choose to open your game to incoming aid from friends, you will be also opening your game to foreign invaders. The choice is still up to each player. Aside from multiplayer invasions, players will encounter in game NPC Invaders as Enemies in the game and will get a chance to invade other NPCs are part of different questlines.
How do I help with the Boss fight in Elden Ring?
If you wish to be summoned to help you in put your summoning sign with the Tarnished's Furled Finger to be able as a cooperator and help with the objective of defeating the area boss of the world to which you were summoned.

Multiplayer Items in Elden Ring
Players are able to use Multiplayer Items to engage in the different types of multiplayer experiences. This can be done from either the Inventory or the Multiplayer Menu. Here are all the existing Multiplayer Items and their effects.

Blue Cipher Ring
Puts you into a Ready state to answer, should someone in another world call for help via a White Cipher Ring.
You will be summoned to their world as a Hunter and multiplayer will begin once you are summoned.
Your goal will be to defeat invading players.
Purchasable at Roundtable Hold.
(Can also be used from the Multiplayer menu.)

White Cipher Ring
Automatically requests the help of a Hunter from another world when invaded by a Bloody Finger.
Can also be used after being invaded to summon a Hunter.
Summoning rescuers may not always be possible.
Purchasable at Roundtable Hold.
(Can also be used from the Multiplayer menu.)

Furlcalling Finger Remedy
Reveals Summon Signs to invoke players from other worlds.
Cooperative Summon Signs are shown in Gold, while competitive signs are Red.
For either type of multiplayer the summoning player becomes Host of Fingers.
Furlcalling Finger Remedy can be crafted using two Erdleaf Flowers.
(Can also be used from the Multiplayer menu.)

Finger Severer
Use as a Host of Fingers to select a summoned player and send them back to their world.
Use when you have been summoned to another player's world to return to your own world.
(Can also be used from the Multiplayer menu.)

Tarnished's Furled Finger
Creates a summon sign for cooperative multiplayer.
Arrive as a cooperator (Furled Finger) with the objective of defeating the area boss of the world to which you were summoned.
(Can also be used from the Multiplayer menu.)

Duelist's Furled Finger
Leaves a Red Summon Sign to play competitive multiplayer.
This sign will appear in the world of other players so they may summon you as a Duelist Adversary.
Your objective will be to defeat the Host of Fingers of the world to which you were summoned.
Leaving a second Summon Sign will vanish the old one.
Found on a corpse at Stormhill.
(Can also be used from the Multiplayer menu.)

Tarnished's Wizened Finger
Use to write messages. Your messages will be conveyed to other worlds, allowing other players to read them.
(Can also be used from the Multiplayer menu.)

Bloody Finger
Attempts to invade another player's world.
If the invasion is successful, the competitive multiplayer will begin, with you as a Bloody Finger.
The goal is to defeat the Host of Fingers of the other world.
It is possible to re-invade the world you previously invaded.
(Can also be used from the Multiplayer menu.)

Taunter's Tongue
Beckons Bloody Fingers to come invade your world.
This allows you to be invaded even without a Furled Finger cooperator present, and reduces the amount of time before re-invasion is possible.
It also allows for a second invader to join multiplayer. (With two invaders, the maximum number of cooperators becomes one.)
(Can also be used from the Multiplayer menu.)
Grace Mimic
A fetish indicating the guidance of grace.
Craftable item.
Similar to grace, this fetish draws rays guiding the way, only
without any sense of order.
Useful as a last resort for those who have lost their way, or for use
by those who believe that unrefined guidance will lead to truer encounters.

Small Golden Effigy
Send a cooperative summon sign to several nearby summoning pools (activated pools only).
In cooperative multiplayer, your objective will be to defeat the area boss of the world to which you were summoned.
(Can also be used from the Multiplayer menu.)

Small Red Effigy
Sends competitive sign to summoning pool
Phantom Bloody Finger
Item for online play.
Obtained after invading another world.
Consumed upon use.
Attempts another invasion of the most recently invaded world. This may come in handy should separation from the Host of Fingers force a temporary retreat.
PVP Rewards in Elden Ring
Defeating an opponent in PvP will reward the player with Runes. The amount of Runes is a fixed amount depending on the defeated opponent's Level; It is a percentage of that player's most-recent leveling cost (eg. a level 50 player drops some % of the cost of leveling up from level 49 to 50). However, the percentage awarded varies depending on the perspective of the player and the type of multiplayer being conducted.
15% Rewards
- Received by hosts when an invader is defeated (who invaded via the Bloody Finger or Festering Bloody Finger)
5% Rewards
- Received by co-op summons when an invader is defeated
- Received by hunters when an invader is defeated (summoned via White Cipher Ring / Blue Cipher Ring)
4% Rewards
- Received by invaders when a host, co-op summon, or hunter is defeated
2% Rewards
- Received by hosts when a duelist is defeated (who was summoned via the Duelist's Furled Finger)
1% Rewards
- Received by co-op summons when a duelist is defeated
- Received by duelists when a host or co-op summon is defeated
- Received by invaders when another invader is defeated
I think PvP rune gain info may be out of date. Yesterday I was co-oping as a Furled Finger (RL~300) when an invader came in. I was awarded roughly 400K runes when the invader died (levels in this range cost about 800k)

Is there an additional factor when it comes to invasions? I get instant invasions on a level 20 build with only Limgrave explored, but on another level 20 build, where I explored as far as the Atlas Plateau, it takes a few minutes to find a world. Both characters have the same weapon levels, and I didn't pick up any of the pre-upgraded weapons either.

Is it just me or do everybody get those crying messeges from people you beat in duel or invasion

Love the game, but the pvp is horrendous it's either the same like 4 things or you start winning and the guy you're fighting turns into an item randomizer just to win the fight besides that great game
- Anonymous
Love watching a single invader have such horrid internet that every attack they make lands but every attack against them fails, and let me tell ya its pretty easy to 1v2 or 1v3 when you quite literally cannot take damage. The netcode of this game needs some serious work to make even Dark Souls 1 pvp look incredibly fair by comparison.

Came back to check if pvp and overall gameplay got any better, and it hasn't
It’s enraging just to see the comments of new BS. Pvp in this game is a huge swing and miss in every single way possible. It should have just been cut and a better story telling should have been focused on instead.

It's pretty dumb trying to fight an invader @ level 10 Wretch. Who has four amulet slots and the best amulets in the game, frost spear bloody helix, haligtree knight armor, golden vow, flame grant me strength, erdtree blessing, medium rolls, rot pots, crazy spells, all the consumable buffs, and half a dozen heal potions. While you have kaiden armor and a club, one amulet, one heal, and fire pots. And thats how it is every invasion it seems, it's disheartening that toxic people have multiplied to hundreds, if not thousands. Instead of just one here and there through the series...
No wonder they gave hosts so much control over PvP this time around, and it explains the "soul memory" from DS2. I'm sure internally they saw something festering they did not like, so they came up with a way to prevent twinking. But those people who care way too much about there power tripping took to the internet to raise hell, and review bomb the best PvP game in the entire series. So now they loath these players, hence the entire game regards invaders in varying forms of pure evil. And the character that symbolizes veterans from the very first dark souls Solair, has literally been turned into a fat toxic loathsome dung eater! It's the toxic people that are making the PvP worse and worse and more difficult to enjoy, cause and effect. I have a feeling the next game in the series will have something very similar to soul memory again. In which case, I'll be proven correct in my interpretation of From Softs symbolism.

It was only for 3 days but i had the time of my life with invasions, combat ordeals and some duels, without a single unfair/frustrating situation. So here is my take on fextra comments here:
Everyone expected another ganker paradise and got kicked in the balls. In wich case, go back to ds3 and stay there if invaders are that much of a trouble for you (no, "i just want to coop with my friends" is not a valid excuse. Since the foundation of gank city in ds3 you lost the right to skip a map). If your friends have trouble with the game then be a proper "friend" and show him how it's done instead of doing all the work for him.
- Anonymous
people complaining about the game mechanics are just whiners, dont listen to them
pvp is ****ing **** tho, the reason being pretty much the same its ever been for every From game to this date:
their netcode is the worst garbage you will ever experience in any multiplayer game thats somewhat modern.
you will get phantom hits, kill your opponent 10 seconds after you died because his internet is trash, your status effects will trigger without any damage, you will see opponents intentionally lagging their game so they can hittrade you
good luck trying to parry an opponent because timing is no longer relevant, since its 100% dependent on your p2p connection
just such a shame because when you actually have some sort of decent p2p connection its a lot of fun.

The PvP is just stupid... Keep getting invaded @ level 24 when I try to help anyone do something besides a boss room. It's this jump atk spammer with near infinite full heal flasks, 6 that I saw, I get ONE. Kept thinking he can't run and heal now... He can't run and heal now... He just kept jumping in, almost dying, running and taking a sip, it's just out healing your victims and spamming jump atk and roll... Wtf? Did he just run ahead through the map to all the churches and trees soon as he got the horse then came back to be a ****?

The fact that poise and damage negation almost strictly scale linearly is rather upsetting. More weight, more defense, more poise. Even wizards wear banished knight or heavier with a med roll, ironically the weapons that need poise most - slow, heavy ones liable to get hit out of their windups - are worse for it. No or very little investment in endurance still allows for scaled / crucible / veteran's armor and all the perks that come with it if your weapons are light enough.
If you want to be an annoying sorcerer build and facetank colossal swords while you spam carian slicer, it's not as if it takes 20 levels of endurance and mind as well as two talismans to make it happen. But if you want a heavy weapon and not get hitstunned by stray winds, you need great jar's arsenal and/or erdtree's blessing and/or a bunch of levels in endurance. Or you could just use a thrusting sword, since heavy affinity works on everything, and not have to invest in your equip load nearly as much.
Unpopular opinion but DS2 had it right. Poise and physical defense are not always linearly correlated. Physical defense scales poorly at higher levels, so over-aggressive trading was still punishing. In ER armor is the best weapon. Regardless of your damage stat(s), the most important thing is getting your vigor to 60+ and wearing the heaviest armor you can. You could have a hilariously suboptimal array of str/dex/int/fth/arc, sure, go ahead and use both Moonveil and Golden Halberd on the same build at base requirements. If you have a solid red bar and thick enough armor you can still win.

At this point it just isn't worth listening to ppl, wether they praise or complain. As a game dev with this kind of community, just do your tests with 2 or 3 pals and give it an aye or a nay.
"But this is unbalanced, but that is op, but muh summons, but this, but that, etc etc." Man, there weren't even a quarter of the complaints back in ds1 and ds2, because if the player wanted to be carried by the hand it had literally any other game (wich hasn't changed much nowadays). From ds3 onwards the ppl, hosts of embers in the vast mayority, raised their "invaders can kill me" complaints and rants from day 1, and invaders just got the middle finger of the generation. I know, he's invading your world, he's not welcome, yatta yatta. While true, it ain't an excuse to grief newbies or people who just started to do it (you don't treat summoned reds any nicer, mothafckas). Twinks and tryhards? You brought them in the first place. How else would a pvp tryhard be so used to numeric disadvantage?
There are similar coments like this in ds3 that got downvoted to hell for telling what's the true problem with fromsoft's pvp and how this much cater to the host's side kills the concept entirely. That alone is incentive enough for any game dev to think "this just isn't worth our time". Only 5 minutes of scrolling down the comments in ds3's wiki regarding these things are enough to make fingercreepers look cute.

Want less sweaty invaders? make less obtuse invasion mechanics that have actual rewards instead of worthless rune arcs. Then more casual players have an incentive to play instead of just souls veterans.
- Anonymous
Literally the worst part of the game. I'm just trying to enjoy PVE with my friends.

i just lost my 35k+ rune after losing a pvp to invader, is it normal or not, first time getting this after losing many times before tbh

Low LV invasions are amazing. I decided to see how far I could get in the game without leveling up my Vagabond. I made it all the way to the fire giant with a little help on Morgott. So I started doing invasions. Since I have all 4 talisman slots this totally balances PVP invasions. Nothing feels better when you invade and the host has 2 way over leveled furled and you just stand there not moving with the dragon halberd they think they are going to gank you and you one shot both of the furled and the host runs like a decapitated chicken. The highest rune count I have gotten is 250k from a LV 300. You can tell if your going against noobs and usually I bail or drop them something. Best was a furled in bull goat with marikas sword he was in shock to how easy it was to roll through and take 3/4 of his heath with the halberd. Same with rivers of blood they try to spam it and the halberd stops them in their tracks. Or dragon breath rot, roll through and knock them on their a$$. Nothing feels better. I have had so many people message me telling me I am cheating or someone gave me all of my gear… nope I put the time in and it was surprisingly easy to kill godrick and radahn with a bow and poison arrows.

I find it hilarious how the people who say "why do you run so much" are the same people who will run across the entire map to resummon their friend as soon as its an actually fair fight.

Why do invaders only ever run away when they realise its not an easy kill? Like why waste the time?
- Anonymous
I’ve got a lvl 35 +3/+1 invasion build and can hop into other worlds very easily. It’s been a blast.
Sure, you get your level 200 coop players with duel end game weapons but you also get some fantastic 2v1s.
- Anonymous
If I'm in the arena at RL 125 with a +25 weapon, and I see my opponent has an overleveled symbol next to their name, how much overleveled are they ?
- Anonymous
Hosts have to much control over pvp. bring back random invasions. Fix a lot since invaders will start exiting the gank squads. Also level out the coop help. I got no problem fighting 4 on 1 if near my level and weapon upgrade and their actually playing the game. It's fun and challenging. It should be hard to invade but not impossible. Got 250,000 runes from a phantom coop defeating them. I was level 65. How is that possible? Based on reward system, this guy's level is off the charts.
- Anonymous
PvP is bad though, always has been. I'll let you have a stroke about the haters as long as you want, but you're not gonna pretend it isn't awful on my watch.
- Anonymous
This being my first DS game and I have to say I love the invasions. I tend to play coop 24/7, so the random invasions while I’m doing PvE content is very refreshing.
Maybe it will get old, but I’ve been invaded only a handful of times and all have had drastic impacts of the content. My favorite being a really early invasion just before GtGrafted during a run through the front gates. It turned an otherwise ‘challenging’ fight into a literal siege.
Low level PvP is a blast!
It seems like it would be stupid to consider yourself to have lost if the opponent is using bleed or the bull-goat set.

oh and if you start winning I have a thrusting sword backup so don't worry ;)

Went and played other games for a bit, came back and played Elden ring pvp and it became very apparent how bad this game is.
The base game is ok at best. The pvp takes this down from like a 8/10 to a 5/10. Good lord is this just terrible for everyone. How many games do you have to make exactly the same before you understand how to do this right? Just take it out of the game altogether that would have and only allow coop. This is complete garbage.
- Anonymous
What the hell kinda servers is From running? I can literally play with low latency in high octane FPS games with particle effects flying everywhere but I try to play PvP in the games From makes and it's like I'm on 56k.
- Anonymous
Do people not play this game anymore? I only invade die hard gankers and bonfire duelists no matter what i do.
- Anonymous
Duels are fun and all but I get tired of duelists saying something is trash in "PvP" on these forums. They are misinforming you 90% of the time. What they mean is it's trash in duels and invasions are very different from duels. No offense but you aren't gank spanking 3 people spamming you with r2/r1 poke from a 2h rapier very much. The 2 play styles are different requiring different tools, and it's what the PvP of this game and weapon balancing is focused on. Quite frankly duels are not as crazy(can still be hard) as invasions and among chaos a lot of "not meta" things actually become very strong
- Anonymous
Invaders, stop targetting only the host, I've absolutely fried an invader with the flame of frenzy simply because they didn't try to fight me, i had like no health at the time, it was a pretty easy issue to solve. don't lobotomize yourself in invasions
- Anonymous
It never ceases to amaze how Souls PvP gets so much activity despite From's ancient multiplayer design. Games like Mortal Kombat (2011) had proper region lock before Dark Souls 1 even came out.
- Anonymous
I hope in the future there is some sort of faction system that matter because I hate host and phantoms so much. I wish we could steal items from them or something more impacting.
Having to 3v1 overleveled phantoms with all the broken meta garbage is terrible.
- Anonymous
Who cares about PvP when their dogcrap servers couldn't even run an old Sega game? Like legit feels like playing on some variation of ol' 56k modems. I can literally run high graphic high intensity games with no latency issues yet this garbage has lag?
- Anonymous
invading at low level is a good way to make big bucks. just find someones level 600 buddy and pancake flip them with giant hunt, then let the host resummon and rinse and repeat
- Anonymous
Just use taunter's tongue to make use of the oversupply of invaders. Difficulty can be dialed as needed:
- don't summon help
- don't chuck more estus than the invader got
- don't chuck estus first
- do it while farming / doing pve content
- have a giant ready to use it as dangerous surprise spacing tool
- more ideas go here
more reasonable 1on1 invading action more often than with the fingers
try it
- Anonymous
PVP is absolutely underwhelming, asymmetric (in absolute majority - because almost no one uses taunter's tongue), terrible rewards - 15% of level worth of runes, lol? No wonder why people don't enable taunter's tongue because it only wastes time. No covenants, for additional PVP motivation, no arena, nothing.
I have 461 hours in Elden Ring right now and maybe 3 hours of pvp in that at best, till I lost any interest in it altogether. They better do full revamp of PVP along with DLC
- Anonymous
Lol just sitting here waiting for them to raise the numbers on cap so we can get long term brawls going up to 3v3 as it was the most fun in ds3 pvp and what truly kept the end game community active... Makes no sense since the zones are bigger, for the most part, and introduced an item so it doesn't happen to someone who does want it. As they did most their balancing now I hope it comes in a dlc or patch
- Anonymous
Funny how everyone cheered for patch 1.07 damage nerfs only to later realize that patch basically killed low level invasions. I invaded mostly at 25-90 they were never even remotely balanced but always enjoyed the give and take of making an optimized build at low levels. You don't have a chance to win low level invasions now. Every phantom is over 200 minimum no scaling its miserable to see your zweihander do no damage to a phantom then they 2 shot you with a rapier r1s lol. Magic damage is insane at lvl 25 it usually is a one shot.
If you want to have a chance at decent invasions go make a 200 or even 220 "build", lol". At that level you mostly skip metaslave sweatlords and have a chance to at least stand up to the overlevelled phantoms. You might even see something other than moonveil and magic spam from time to time. There are more ganks on lower levels because they like to kill invaders 200 levels below them, those heroic sunbros.

Is there a brawl like in DS3? I am not sure and can't find anything that would say.
For people wondering I'm lvl 237 and there are plenty of duels at the academy gate and invasions consistent although alot go into the boss immediately so you go home **** in hand

I loved invading and getting invaded in every From game but have to wonder why did they even include the invasion system in this game. I don't think it works in ER.
Majority of invasions are getting spammed and stunlocked to death by 3 people then get tbagged. Hosts have 2 overlevelled unscaled bodyguards and they can easily one shot any enemy so by the time you spawn as an invader everything is usually dead. I'm sure the ai of the enemies are dumbed down when there's an invader present, their aggro range is definitely smaller. I think the sites of grace are too frequent and the dungeons are too small for invasions to work but even then the game is just too easy to take advantage of any enemies. The bigger enemies and Aoe attacks also hit the invader too basically as if the seed of the tree from Ds3 was always on. Open world invasions are mostly gank squads or people sitting at the grace with no incentive at all to move. If you are lucky enough to take out one phantom there's immediately a hunter spawning and they wont stop spawning until the host is dead. The fact that you can turn off taunters tongue is really stupid and is basically used to grief invaders. Despite all this I think the invader hate is stronger in this game then ever and more and more players just use the taunters tongue and then BM with their overlevelled friends. The point of invaders was to balance out how easy coop makes the game but as it stands why would anyone invade in this game? There is lore and quests about invasions so I think they wanted it in the game but they have to give something to invaders at some point because as it stands it's really stupid.
- Anonymous
I love being the invader. The Game is so much more dynamic in pvp. The Twink , gank, coops are the $$$ makers for the game though. Otherwise they would not allow it. I don't even mind being outnumbered as that is fun when you sweep em all. But when phantoms are allowed late game weapons and much higher levels than I can be as invader, especially early, the fights don't have much value in who is better player. They could easily put level numbers above fighters to see what range your fighting, but they don't because it's not even very often. I still invade though. Still keep playing.
- Anonymous
Shoutout to all the invaders that somehow manage to kill the host and phantoms and blue boys.
You guys are the real MVPs of this game. The most difficult thing in this entire game is gank squads.
- Anonymous
A good tip to check lag time is use throwing knives and see when they land.
Sometimes you don’t notice much but there is lag that will effect parry’s and dodge times pretty significantly.
- Anonymous
Pvp is still god-awful, but it still can be a fun dumpster fire to play in.
No one should take it seriously though. Between all the host advantages Like over-leveled phantoms, unlimited summon help, great runes, better damage scaling, more heals etc…
Also there are also many issues like phantom range, eating inputs, extra input lag time, and overall performance that effect the play. I think so far a ps5 with a ps4 version is the best possible solution.
It can still be a unique and exciting experience, given how easy the base game is.
- Anonymous
Man I sure do love fighting people 100-200 lvls higher than me. It’s so fun and balanced. I wish they could summon more phantoms so I could do a 4v1 or 5v1 because the host always needs more help.
- Anonymous
Favorite invasions have to be offscreen moonveil with 2 phantoms. 1 phantom is lighting spell nonstop and the other is a stars of ruin/ scarlet rot breath mage with a moonveil backup. It’s so creative and unique. I’m so glad that this game doesn’t just entirely depend on spell and WA spam. I mean they learned so much since DS1.
- Anonymous
The new patch nerfed pvp damage, which only helps the host and phantoms. You have no shot winning a lvl 50 invasion vs 2 iver leveled phantoms, and hosts at high level just run back to the grace to resummon their gank butt buddies when they die because you can't nuke them anymore. Ganks are worse than ever now. Thanks fromsoft! All these bm hosts alsp taunters tongue then summon 2 blues over and over until you run out of heals. OH and let's not forget you cannot poise through a GS hit anymore so good luck having anyyyyyy chance to trading efficiently. RIP

Here’s a fun idea.
BLESSED INVADERS
Basically the idea is to do something really helpful, but under the guise of an invader.
Here’s what I did an it was appreciated even if someone killed me.
1. Change name to something like $$$ 4 U, or Kindness or something even SunBro.
2. Collect a lot of runes to be able to drop or give from exiting like 100,000 upwards.
3. Show up with orange friendly talisman on.
4. Drop warming stone and sit down as a sign of non aggressive behavior, maybe drop an item.
5. Wave and separate and host should receive a big boost of runes. To help them in their game and so will the the phantoms.
Jolly good help from an unlikely source is peak sun bro, it’s a lot of fun and you can even make them chase you, by punching them with no weapon or something like tag.
It’s a lot of fun actually and your being super helpful even if you die.

pvp still sucks.
New meta is moonveil, with 2 over-leveled phantoms rushing and killing all enemies in area or refusing to fight unless it’s 3v1.
I don’t know if there’s a way to fix pvp because the toxicity is already ingrained in the community. Whatever meta or YouTube video is out about how to make the best cheese build is what people do now. Balance could help some, but it’s going to take forever to sort this out.

I just hate invading in this game and there being no dread of being properly solo invaded. I can't get into it. My favorite pvp is early pvp, abd it had alot, and I mean, ALOT of potential, but after losing 90% of all my invasions, because someone is smurfing with their max level friend who can spam serpent sword 10 times in a row without chugging the blue juice, I throw in the towl. I get it, I invade someone and try to ruin their day and I should be at a disadvantage, but in this game you don't spawn in as a pradator, just as more pray. Early pvp in this game is ****ing dead and I hate it and no amount of balancing will fix this
last update seems to be a step in the right direction
don't know why they didn't do it before
now RoB users can't use their rubbish excuse about PvE and PvP
tho its still been nerfed

One of the most overlooked aspects of this entire game is how it handles multiple opponents with the camera and input.
Dark souls has never been good at this, but when fighting 3 v 1 it’s atrocious. Not only do you have to deal with the camera of the person rushing you, you have to deal with spam spells coming from nowhere within the camera range, all while dodging attacks from another player. It would be great if there was like an overhead camera to switch to or an item or something, other than that bird telescope.

Who came with idea to create 20 different ways of multiplayer? Just do coop or invasion. Good point with duel, but still. This is over the top. And the worst thing is, that it does not work very well.

Recently coming back to finish Elden ring, did we ever agree what the pvp level was? 125? 150?

Pvp for me is pretty much pressing all the red signs at academy gate, waiting for 99.9percent of them to fail. Getting bored of doing that then luring for 10minutes to no avail, then dropping my yellow sign to get summoned and hoping an invader pops in which they do like 2 percent of the time. Then I'll randomly get summoned to a fight club after 5 hours of trying to matchmake and now the reds and the blues are all spinning around in circles as mimics for n hour straight and then I go to bed.

I know gankers with dropped/cheated in gear and level ~125-800 phantoms are always going to BM because that's what they live for, but why all the BM every time I invade anyone else? I'm just playing the game, just like you.

elden ring's pvp is so godawful it made me realize that maybe ds3 pvp wasn't so bad
While Elden Ring probably has the worst PvP experience in the Souls series because of the lack of proper covenants, overtuned damage all around, heavy armor being stupidly good, overleveled phantoms being too strong, the lack of solo invasions, afk farming, and a ton more issues, this is probably one of my most interesting experiences in Souls PvP ever. Surprisingly, I've had a ton of fun with the PvP, but it's clear that it could be better.
To give the benefit of the doubt, this is still pretty early in the games' lifespan, and it's a bit unfair comparing this to Dark Souls 3 after all the patches, but I get people wanting a more fun PvP experience and expecting that Fromsoft learned some of their lessons from DS3.
But in the meantime, while everything's going to pot, the least you can do is voice your opinion, and patch 1.06 shows that Fromsoft is definitely taking feedback from the community to an extent, so being angry (but not borderline threatening the lives of the devs because that's not cool) works sometimes lol.
Here's one way you can voice opinions: https://eldenringpvp.net/community-survey
At best, it's a way of providing Fromsoft with valuable feedback and constructive criticism, and at worst, it's a place to vent about what's wrong with the game, but the least you can do is take a look at the suggestions that the guys that made the site have made through people's feedback

Anyone have some knowledge on general pvp levels and upgrade tiers?

Watch out for getting trapped and ganked in PVP.
If an opponent and his phantom get you pinned to a wall and attack you there is no escape with rolling or jumping.
All attacks are too fast to cast or attack back with more than one opponent swinging their weapon. So far it’s my leading cause of death in invasions.

Elden ring got a massive update that fixed tons of things in PvP, which is great.
The last issues that need to me resolved are…
1. Phantoms being over leveled and not scaled down enough.
When invading its really obvious that phantoms are way too strong. They have heavy armor, heavy weapons, very high health, too high damage output.
They just need to be scaled down more or the invaders need to be scaled up somehow.
2. Pvp talisman matching needs to be a thing.
There’s also obviously too low lvl players to be using the equipment they use and they’re is no way one of them got Melania gear at SL1.
The number of talismans pouches you have should change that, and they should not be droppable.
3. There needs to be some sort of dragon spell counter.
Breath attacks in 3v1 are impossible to dodge and so are many other spells, but these are the worst.
4. Friendly fire player mode.
The fact that a host can swing their weapon through multiple friends with no damage is a bit OP. Invaders can harm each other and they’re is usually on 1 per invasion. Players need to be able to harm their phantoms, or maybe an item triggers that for a time.
Everything else is pretty great with the new patches.

If you get summoned as a hunter are you "handicapped" like you are if are summoned as a co-operator?

I actually think pvp in elden is fine, it's supposed to be hard and you are supposed to die.
EXCEPT the lag makes pvp basically a different game than pve because you have to time your hits completely differently, so if you are not constantly doing pvp you are an a huge disadvantage.

if i had a nickle for every time a coinvader killed me by "accident" and then instantly ate **** to the host and phantoms i'd have a lot of nickles.

literally look at any game that wasn’t meant to be a pvp game and the creators add pvp for more content. suddenly the entire community: AH PVP SUCKS GAME DEAD AHHH MAKE PVP BETTER!!!!!! I’m not sure if anybody realizes this but there isn’t a single game in this world where pvp is “balanced” If your gonna cry about how YOU invaded someone and they used stars of ruin or whatever go play genshin or something. you should be happy that your not playing on a Nintendo 64 in 144p anymore. Elden ring is a great game and just because the pvp isn’t perfect doesn’t make it bad, and it’s certainly a lot better than plenty of other games similar to it. Oh yeah did I mention ELDEN RING IS MEANT TO BE ONE PLAYER YOU DONT NEED TO INVADE PEOPLE TO SURVIVE IF YOU HATE THE PVP SO MUCH

10/11 invasions result in me getting kicked cause the host starts a bossfight

Don't want to be ganked/spammed to death? Don't invade. I didn't invite you to my world and I don't want to follow your made-up rules. If my summons or my moonveil is annoying you then you can just go back to your world and stay there.

Life of the average coinvader: rots breaths/mohgs spears other invader, gets blown up by phantom, dies, refuses to elaborate.

Since 1.06, using the taunter's tongue, you'll get an invasion in less than 1 minute, and you can draw invaders into literally any part of the map. As a host, the best places I've tried are the Death Rite Bird in Mountaintops, the Fallingstar Beast near Volcano Manor, and the Moonlight Altar, in the middle of the three Glintstone dragons. These bosses are pure chaotic neutral, and you can absolutely use that to your advantage. Even as someone who has only ever been into PvE, the PVP in 1.06 has been fantastic

The near and far has not improved anything in pvp. Invading is next to impossible. Fighting players over leveled by mass amounts. Boooring...not to mention completely unfair. Has nothing to do with being good in the game.

DS2 still remains the peak of Souls PvP, and even then it had it's bad moments. Maybe PvP should be removed from the series. I imagine it must be a huge pain for a developer to balance weapons and builds for both PvE and PvP. No PvP means more time spent on other things, like for example, cut content.

Has anyone tested how the distant Invasion works yet? Do I have to visit somewhere before I can invade there? Do i have to sit at the grace to unlock it or do I activate the summoning pool?

the “near and far” option for invading essentially turns every area in the game into an invasion hotspot. normally i’m fine with invasions but this is too much. co-op has been ****ing unbearable since 1.06

Maybe we’ll have an actual multiplayer game after 1.06… hopefully this update sends some of the cancer that plagued the game back to Madden.

my personal thoughts on what could be changed to make invasions and invasion multiplayer more enjoyable.
-make a new menu option at sites of grace where you can toggle specific multiplayer items, (taunters tongue and the cipher rings, other similar stuff if i forgot any.) this will prevent gank traps with hosts disabling taunters once they get one invader and not allowing a second one to help, and stop also afk farmers.
-bring back solo invasions, but only allow a solo players world to be invaded very rarely, once every hour or hour and a half.
-should an invader get put into a solo players world, remove all (or a significant amount of) their flasks, this will make it fair for the host as the host is solo and the invader has PVE enemies on their side, while also making sure the invader is at a disadvantage regardless, as they should be.
-should an invader get put into a 1 host 1 phantom world, nothing should change from how it is now, they spawn with half flasks and it is them + PVE vs. the host and their phantom.
-should an invader get put into a 1 host 2 phantom world, they spawn with full flasks and a hunter cannot be summoned, unless they take the place of a phantom after they die. this makes it more fair than it is right now, while still being difficult on the invader. theres only so much counter-play to fighting 3 people at once, and PVE can only help so much (unless you find a runebear or something lmao.)
-give hosts that have just summoned a phantom a 5 or so minute immunity to being invaded. this is because alot of places have summoning pools far away from the nearest boss (niall, maliketh), where a host will want to summon a phantom or two, and then run to the fog-gate and fight the boss. alot of the time invaders will get summoned to that world and immediately be sent back home once the boss fight starts, wasting their time for no reason. this should stop this from happening for the most part.
thats about all i can think about right now that i feel can be changed for the better. if all the players in a regular invasion are of equal skill, then the invader has maybe a 1/5 or 1/6 chance to win. i personally think that should go to a 1/3 or 1/4 chance for the invader, which is why so many of these changes are favourable to the invader, as right now the invaded players have way too much of an advantage in most scenarios, and while they definitely should be at an advantage, in my opinion its currently just too skewed for the host right now.
i dont consider myself the best player or anything but i have about 200 or so rune arcs between all of my saves so i think im allowed a valid stance on the whole issue. most of the problems with pvp is almost entirely just game balance, aows that can oneshot 40+ vigor players with little effort, bleed being extremely strong, BHS being BHS, and phantom hits still building status and stuff like that, makes the pvp in this game just a shell of what it could be.
there also evidently by this comment section seems to be a big resentment between invaders and hosts, where i think it kinda goes like this:
host playing through game normally, decides to try out coop with a friend. they eventually get invaded by an invader with a dedicated pvp build, god at roll-catching, greatsword crouch poke, etc. host gets frustrated, goes and gets an overtuned weapon (rivers, blasphemous blade, seppuku), and melts any invaders, invaders get frustrated and do the same, they invade different hosts who copy them, over and over until it just become a boring spam fest that noone enjoys. i hope from manges to fix the current balance to where player skill will be the actual deciding factor on who will win in any pvp outside of duels, instead of what it is right now.
anyway thanks for reading and i guess you can give feedback if you disagree with some of the point i made.

How does anyone seriously duel in these games? The netcode is from the stone age and the mechancis could literally be mastered by a toddler. It's laggy, spammy, mashy, and completely luck-based. What is the point?

Invaders, take it as a win when the host and phantoms teabag or point down. It prob means you pissed them off enough for them to get salty LOL

hate getting ganged up on by 3 people during duels. in invasions sure since its just popping in randomly, but duels should be more honorable 1v1 fights since its a fight with consent. im probably in the minority thinking that but oh well.

I remember when a dude invaded an host were I and another rando were cooperating for the n-time to kill the boss at Yelough Anex tunnels, he stood in front of the fog, we didn't even flinch, kept running at him, obliterated him before he could cast anything and kept on trying with the boss, lmao Felt like a Bud spencer n terence hill movie
I wish invasions were off in the small areas right before co-op heavy bosses
(Radagon, Godfrey, Maliketh etc)
Having to go though a double loading screen just to see the little prompt in roughly 40% of all invasions is demoralizing and a waste of time
I think it would be better for both sides if these were just invasion free
