Pickaxe is a Great Hammer (Warhammer) in Elden Ring. The Pickaxe scales primarily with Strength and Dexterity and is a good Weapon for high strength players who can hold this weapon's weight. The weight is worth the ability to crush enemy armor, sometimes along with the enemy itself. 

 

Large pickaxe designed to crack thick bedrock. Tool of sturdy miners.

Not originally designed as a weapon, but very adept at piercing armor.
"Little wretches, do you think your armor harder than stone?"

 

Where to Find Pickaxe in Elden Ring

The Pickaxe weapon can be found at the following location:

  • Dropped by Miners
  • Fastest farming route is going to the Limgrave Tunnels, go to the second tunnel that leads to boss that's behind the first elevator shaft. There's a Stakes of Marika nearby. Kill the five Miners in the tunnel then jump down the elevator shaft and die. Respawn at the Stake to reset the Miners. Rinse and repeat. Make sure you pick up your runes between each suicide.

 

Elden Ring Pickaxe Notes & Tips

  • Weapon Skill: Endure
  • This weapon can be infused with Ashes of War
  • Pickaxe can be upgraded by using Smithing Stones
  • The Pickaxe cannot be used in powerstance with other warhammers, however it can be used in powerstance with greataxes
  • Has a unique R2 attack, a heavy overhead strike similar to the Great Club R2
  • Sell Value:  er runes 13 100
  • Base drop rate is 2% (at 100 Discovery).
  • NOTE: As of Patch 1.08, Great Hammers poise damage has been reduced.
  • NOTE: As of Patch 1.09, the scaling values of this weapon were changed. Please refer to the Upgrades Table of this weapon below. Additionally, speed, range, recovery time and guard counter speed of Great Hammers weapons has increased.

        Being classified as a Great Hammer, the Pickaxe has more hyperarmor and poise damage (which were both buffed in patch 1.10) compared to Greataxes. Not only is it lighter than the Rusted Anchor, these two factors makes it arguably better than the anchor

          I powerstance these with itself, I always grab two of these every play through any dragon bossed due to weak to pierce weapons but I prefer hammer movesets

              Surprisingly strong powerstanced with cold. Reliably proc frost if anyone is dumb enough to trade with you. Counter damage wins you trades especially when they get something like -30 absorption during counter thrust frames depending on what armor they wear.

                got 2 of these and power stanced them to victory, they carried me through the whole game. really good stats, a strong move set, and my god the number of creatures this thing pummels. The description explains this weapon exceptionally well. "Little wretches, do you think your armor is stronger than stone?" the number of times Ive thought those exact words while punishing anything that came my way.

                  Beat the game with this as my primary weapon along with occasional use of flame/volcano pots and exploding stones as my ranged items of choice. The pickaxe is a very fun weapon with a lot of unique quirks about its moveset, range, and damage type that made it a very interesting choice. 10/10 would mine again.

                        These are easily my favourite weapon in the game. I came from ds3 using the Warwick as my main with Leo ring so on my blind first play through finding this in the first hour and then a long time later finding spear Talisman the game was set for me. I just have unmatched satisfaction from these. Every boss, enemy and God has fallen to these. The pick axe is my true God. My sun.

                          So just did my first blind playthrough with this and wild strikes ash of war, absolutely fantastic weapon. Played it two handed the whole game and it was a treat. Nice poise damage, nice range, nice damage, nice attack speed (for a weapon of this size). It was just super reliable the whole game. Ash of war fell off a bit in the end but it was extremely fun the whole mid game to just run in a boss hold L2 and win . For any good Unga Bunga player I give this my utmost recomandation.

                              For a PvP build, (made by Lost on YouTube) powerstance two of these with heavy affinity and have raptor of the mist. Talismans would be claw, spear, Erdtree +2 and crimson med +2. Spam counter and let them eat the jump attacks

                                Was already good before 1.07, but now it’s amazing. Try powerstancing two of them, heavy affinity, with braggarts roar on both. Claw talisman, spear talisman, rotten winged sword insignia, and raptors black feathers. Spam jump attacks with insane stamina regen from double braggarts roar. Cragblade is good as well, but overall I prefer braggarts roar

                                  I made a mockery of Commander Niall and his dummies with one of these at +18. Drank the stonebarb cracked tear, spammed jump attack and staggered him at least twice. This thing is BUSTED.

                                        Upon testing this definitely benefits from the Spear Talisman, even though it's not a "thrusting weapon." However, because of the short reach and slow speed that your attacks come out at comparative to thrusting swords and spears, you have to be very canny with it to hit the window consistently. This requires excellent spacing on your part against shorter weapons. You're pretty much forced to trade against bigger weapons, which can interrupt your counter, but the extra damage from Spear Talisman can help you to win these trades.

                                        I'd be curious if anyone with experience with Dragonbolt Blessing would know if it would help this weapon to use it's counter hits in trades?

                                          Win trades.

                                          Pierce damage, greataxe moves, massive poise damage, there's so much to love. Choose an ash of war that really emphasises hitting em with the pointy end. Use with the Spear talisman.

                                              Can seem to find the answer somehow. Soo when power stancing 2 pickaxes, you get the warhammer power stance move set? And when you powerstance with a great axe, you get the great axe move set, or the great hammer move set??

                                                  This weapon is a monster. The jumping attack is the ultimate vigor check. I run it occasionally (completely unoptimized) on my dexterity build, dual wield and lightning infused. I cant imagine how nasty this would with strength. The jumping L1 is extremely easy to land, but if you miss and they decide to punish, you trade with L1 and they will get obliterated. If you run spear talisman+jump atk talisman alot, throw this weapon in your rotation because you will be doing huge chunks of damage.

                                                    It's good against those lightning dragons that are weak to thrust. this weapon is also slightly faster than the other weapons within its class while two handing but its slower than the others when one handing. only problem is that its still a great hammer which means its slow compared to other thrusting options like Cleanrots, craigblade Lance, or any crouch spamming Colossal sword.

                                                          I'm at level 36 and can easily 1v3 people. The stagger and quickness of this weapon is under rated. RIP to people with shields as well. If you use strength enhancing physique,and use war cry ash of war. You become a LITERAL power house. I only have it plus 6 and am hitting 300s. War cry also enhances your poise and swing speed. I'm interested to try magic with it and see how deadly it is.

                                                                This weapon is situational for what enemies you are fighting. With 40 strength, I can one-shot the miners with the base brick hammer, but it took 2 hits with this because of the damage type. If this does the same damage type as your upgraded sword, might as well use the sword.

                                                                    Fastest farming route is going to the Limgrave Tunnels, go to the second tunnel that leads to boss that's behind the first elevator shaft. There's a Stake of Marika nearby. Kill the five Miners in the tunnel then jump down the elevator shaft and die. Respawn at the Stake to reset the Miners. Rinse and repeat. Make sure you pick up your runes between each suicide. Happy Farming.

                                                                      For anyone trying to farm these, it's absolutely worth it to grab the Missionary's Cookbook [3] from the Smoldering Church and craft some Silver-Pickled Fowl Feet for increased item discovery. I got two Pickaxes within 5 runs of clearing out every miner (minus the dog area) at Limgrave Tunnels. My discovery was at 161 and it probably took 15 mins to find two of them.

                                                                        So easy to farm, reliable throughout the game. Pierce dmg type means you will occasionally do more dmg due to countering mechanic and powerstancing this basically turns you into a staggering machine. Weighs 10 which is nothing for a weapon that can stagger this easily. Definitely one of the best PVE weapons in the game.

                                                                          Actually very good weapons when powerstanced. You sort of get the best of both worlds with these, the moveset of Greataxes with the additional poise damage of Great Hammers. Possibly the best weapons in the game for staggering. Jumping L1 staggers even the tankiest of bosses in a hurry.

                                                                            Solid Str. option if you don't mind the grind. Bear in mind it does Pierce instead of Strike so it will benefit from Spear Talisman. Similar to the Anchor Greataxe Wild Strikes is an attractive option to both offset the ponderous swing speed and to rack up multiple counter hits in a short time.

                                                                            Also good for mining Diamonds.

                                                                              after 1 hour and 30 minutes grinding for 2 picaxes i finally got em

                                                                              Stake inside of limgrave tunnels
                                                                              4 miners every 20 seconds or so:
                                                                              2 explosive stones
                                                                              2 explosive clumps
                                                                              21 smithing stone
                                                                              and 2 pickaxe

                                                                                        Okay, this is interesting. Another user already noted that the Pickaxe apparently can't be dual wielded with another Warhammer, which is true. When I got it and tried it, I thought, "this is the common Greataxe moveset." SO...I equipped a Greataxe in my other hand (Gargoyle's Great Axe, specifically) and lo and behold, the dual wield moveset worked!

                                                                                        Which means...the Pickaxe is labeled in-game as a Warhammer, but has the Greataxe moveset, and can only dual wield with something under the Greataxe banner. So...is the Pickaxe actually a Greataxe? Was it mislabeled and wrongly categorized by the devs?

                                                                                          This weapon is bugged and can only be dual wielded with itself. Other warhammers just do the single weapon swing with LB.
                                                                                          If you wield a single weapon it has a unique moveset, but the dual wield is the same as any other dual wielding warhammer moveset and there is no reason why it cant be dual wielded with other warhammers.
                                                                                          Probably will be long time before this gets fixed, since the weapon is sorta obscure.

                                                                                            This weapon has an unique move set, used only for this weapon. (as far as I know)
                                                                                            Therefore it can not be dual wielded with any other weapon.
                                                                                            I assume that it can be dual wielded with an other Pickaxe, but I only have at the moment.
                                                                                            Droprates are low indeed.

                                                                                              So, this thing at +3 on a Confessor at 16 STR (2 handing) got me to kill the dragon at the start of the game inside 60 seconds. Pretty broken, but needs more testing.

                                                                                              It's a good choice though for a STR build - deals piercing damage which STR builds can lack and is a comparibly light Warhammer. The downside is it's moveset, which is restricted to vertical slams and somewhat limiting. You can mitigate this with an Ash of War like Furious Swings tho, and it shreds.

                                                                                              I think this thing deals an UNGODLY amount of poise damage though, and it's guard counter is the best I've found so far with a hit box the size of a truck. Try to use lots of jumping heavy attecks with this thing and you'll poise enemies down and open them up for f**king savage criticals no problem. Also, final note - VERY good on horseback and when jousting, and good dismount attacks.

                                                                                                I got a pickaxe on my first character in the mine near agheel. Dropped by a regular miner mob. But i did not continue playing with this char and have never found one since.
