Dialogue in Elden Ring: Pidia, Carian Servant

Introduction

  • "O-oh!
Y-you! I, er, sorry, your worship...
I-I apologise for any offence given.
I am Pidia. Servant to the Carian royal family.
I am charged with maintaining these g-ghastly dolls."

Visit

  • "Ahh, your worship, allow me to be of use.
Other than the puppets, there are some very fine things up here in this storeroom.
Why not pick something out, before you go?
But please, can you offer poor ill-starred Pidia...
A little something by way of compensation?"

 Purchase Everything

  • " Ah, I'm sorry your worship, but poor Pidia has given all he has.
I can't be of further use to you.  Please, forgive me."
" Please, find it in your heart... Forgive me..."

Attacked by Puppets

  • "Y-you're my puppets! I loved you with all I have!
How could you forget... such bliss?
    Ouch!
    Eeek
    Eeeeeeek!"

Elden Ring Pidia, Carian Servant Notes & Trivia

  • He appears to be a First-Generation Albinauric, specifically an Albinauric Mage. Despite this, the pool of blood around his body is red, not silver like that drawn from the living ones in combat.

      1. Recognizes you before you even meet him. 2. Has Dolores on his corpse when he is overtaken by the Cuckoo puppets at the end of Seluvis' questline, who is implied to be a past love interest for Seluvis and his favorite puppet. 3. Same VA as Seluvis, as others have pointed out. 4. Has the map for the Amber Starlight, the ingredient needed for Seluvis' Draught. 5. Seluvis is shown dead in the exact position the other puppets he possesses in his lair are positioned. Yeah there is too many coincidences for it not to be a valid belief that Seluvis was being controlled by Pidia.

      • People make wild theories but Pidia really is just a servant who tends to puppets in a carian manor, who belong to a carian preceptor - Seluvis himself. When Seluvis dies, the puppets are no longer controlled by him and go rogue, killing the only person responsible for their torture they can reach. As for Seluvis' weird death pose, im pretty sure Ranni made him drink his own sh.t, very George Martin-ey

        • Anonymous

does killing him effect seluvis' quest? if he drops the same stuff is there any point in waiting until after rannis quest to get dolores?

          • Anonymous

Has dolores, the puppet seluvis most cares for, if you don't make nepheli drink the potion, has nepheli (seluvis' new obsession) if you do, acts innocent yet conveniently has the map to what the preceptor needs for his plot, and clearly services, cleans and is fond of his puppets just like seluvis, seluvis also uses the finger maiden puppet in a similar manner to spy on you at radahn tournament (puppet inception), they were 100% the same person and it's wild that people disagree

I have four hundred hours in this game and have never found this guy. Now that's a Eldensoulsbornekiro moment

              • Anonymous

I see no reason to assume Pidia and Seluvis are the same person or soul or whatever. I think when Ranni left, she tied up loose ends.

I came to share my stories of adventure and triumph, to share my wealth of souls, to strengthen our bond, and they RIPPED PIDIA THE VERY BEACON OF MY HEART AWAY FROM ME!!

If you hand over the fingerslayer blade to Ranni, but still have the potion from Seluvis is it possible to buy the dung eater puppet from this guy after you give the potion to him? Anyone tested this?

                    • Anonymous

apparently after you finish ranni's quest, hes surrounded by 3 knights and you can pick up his bell, if you have never talked to him.

                      • Anonymous

Platinumed Elden Ring, and didn't even know this guy existed!

Fired the game back up a few months later, accidentally fell off the cliff by Ranni's place, and found him being attacked by his puppets.

The amount of content in this game that you can easily miss is more than the total content in most other games :)

"I have not have an apprentice in some time indeed" Just spoken by Seluvis as I obtained the dung eater and all puppets he had to offer before going to nokron and from past plays. Seems Pidia was Selivus's apprentice at some point. Especially with Pidea's place being literally a drop down from the front lawn of selivus makes sense. As for one controlling the other I dunno, but at this time I can say with that text Pidia was Selivus's apprentice in the past.

                          • Anonymous

Pidia isn't the puppet master. Though Seluvis IS still a puppet, just one like Sellen where his soul is inserted in to it as glintstone. That's why he can talk, teach magic, and otherwise express agency, why he 'dies' and falls limp like the puppets do, and why he has a spot for a 'Seluvis' puppet in his secret basement. This explanation doesn't require any vague handwavey magical abilities on Pidia's behalf to mindlink the Seluvis puppet and stays consistent with what we see explicitly happen with Sellen in game.

The Pidia theory in general requires too many inferences, and is filled with highly unlikely or otherwise contradictory situations. He can't both have manipulated the Seluvis puppet out to meet with Gideon and Dolores but be unable to send one out to fetch the amber shard. Ranni/Blaidd can't be unaware of his position as the true mastermind but also set his puppets loose to kill him, if they are aware they wouldn't waste time with the puppets when they could just kill him in the first place.

Seluvis as the puppet master is a way more boring theory but it relies on a whole lot less speculation and is far more reliable.

Anyway to have him get killed without completeing rannis quest? I need his puppets but dont want to do the whole quest again

There is a voice line "please find it in your heart to forgive me" idk what triggers this but i haven't given anyone the potion and i have gone through parts of the underground up to the rot lake without furthering ranni's quest up to that point

I always forget aboutr this NPC, every time I complete Ranni+Seluvis quests toa point where this old hag is dead, locking out her shop. FFS!

never went down the cliff until late game.. found him dead with three knights surrounding him ominously... i guess i'll retry in next game cycle

                                    • Anonymous

Finished the game and went back to Pidia just to see if there was anything I forgot to buy from his shop, only to hear him begging for mercy and finding him murdered by three soldier puppets. This is such a satisfying conclusion to Seluvis's story, destroyed by his own deranged experiments, lol

                                      • Anonymous

I didn't even find this character. I have already given Ranni the blade, so not sure if I can do his quest or not now.

While I really like the theory that Pidia is controlling Seluvis, the trope of the meak weak man manipulating a strong intimidating front and all that, there are a few details that muddy this theory a bit:

                                          - Pidia refers to the dolls around him ghastly. Though this may be because he actually just hates his custodian job, or just deems them as imperfections and is looking for better ones as Seluvis.
                                          - Pidia can be heard still begging for his life after you find Seluvis inactive. In order to more properly illustrate Pida = Seluvis, From would have made Seluvis dead after Pidia is killed. Though we’re talking about the guys who forgot to code in the finale of the Stormveil ruler/Jarburg champion questlines so probably an oversight, maybe.
                                          - When both are dead, you can’t just loot the puppets, but you have to exchange for them. Are starlight shards something wizards treasure, or are they batteries for the puppets? Though the maiden puppets didn’t need them.
                                          - If Pidia was Seluvis and can control his puppets, why or how did he lose control of the ones inside that storeroom.
                                          - How did the storeroom puppets become animated in the first place? Was it Ranni who turned them on, or was it Pidia’s hatred and abhorrent acts that cursed these puppets to life. If it was a curse, why didn’t all the puppets go at him, but only a few, after efficiently killing him simply became calmly inanimate.
                                          - Seluvis had history with Gideon, who in turn knew that he was a dirty doll maker. He knew Seluvis was trying to make Nepheli into a puppet too. If Pidia was Seluvis, he would have to had successfully infiltrated the Roundtable as a doll and managed to stay inconspicuous from the smartest guy in the room. However, if Gideon could have found out that Seluvis was turning people into dolls, he could have traced Seluvis down to Pidia, and snitch on him to you.
                                          - If Pidia was Seluvis and had a life long passion for enslaving people and turning them into dolls, why did he leave his real body in such an exposed and vulnerable state. Sellen was an autonomous puppet whose real body is imprisoned, but you could say that she allowed her real body to be caught on purpose so her doll can continue studying primeval magic without being investigated. Gowry outright hides his real body from the game. At least, Seluvis’ could have hidden himself behind 2 layers of illusory walls guarded by a dragon right?

Here’re my ideas. I’m biased to say that Pidia was the true mastermind and made a Carian perceptor into a puppet and infiltrated the Roundtable. His ego, which Gideon remarked about, and lofty goals made him careless and vulnerable and it got the better of him. Alternatively, Seluvis left an autonomous doll akin to Sellen1 to do his bidding for him. He placed this proxy near Ranni in order to conduct his ambition. He employed Pidia’ services, forcefully or not, to maintain dolls in the storeroom. After his ambition failed, he deserted his doll, and killed Pidia to tie up loose ends. The killing method is also very efficient, only needing 3 dolls to block Pidia’s escape and he turned them off after the deed is done. He likely just disconnected the doll because if false Seluvis tries to leave, he might make himself suspicious to Ranni, Iji/Blaidd, or the Carian guards who serve Ranni. If real Seluvis tries to come, again, that would draw suspicion. Starlight shards gather under those half bowl structures at night so I’m sure real Seluvis has a method of wiring those shards into his bank.

                                          • Anonymous

When Gideon talks about Seluvis he says, "Are you really going to do the bidding of that twisted dolly botherer?" which is a line that's clearly more appropriate when referring to Pidia. On top of that, Pidia being an Albinauric adds in some more deeply uncomfortable motivations to their actions.

The puppet Dolores used to be a member of the Roundtable Hold, and was the reason Gideon and Seluvis split ways. Albinaurics are life forms made by human hands, and the Carian puppets are made by an Albinauric. Additionally the Nox Nightmaiden & Swordstress became puppets willingly, and the Nox Set shows their loyalty to the Carian family as well, awaiting the Age of Stars.

This is why the whole area of the Carian Manor is full of disembodied hands below and puppets above. Ranni's whole motivation is trying to take control away from the Two Fingers and not be their puppet any longer. We also know Loretta was actually at the Haligtree searching for a safe Haven for the Albinaurics, and her puppet is still protecting the Manor, while her body guards the Haligtree.

The Carians had a close relationship with Castle Sol, as the dead Albinauric in Temple Quarter is by the Icerind Hatchet which was a gift from there. The Albinauric women also all ride the same Dire Wolves guarding the Carian Manor, and in the north, they guard the home of the Black Knives, Ordina.

This is why Latenna the Albinauric knows where the other half of the Haligtree medallion is, as she's the one with the quest to deliver their people there. However…

We also know that Gideon explicitly murdered her wolf companion to make her unable to leave where she had been summoned, and then he also had the entire Albinauric Village slaughtered that was protected below the Cathedral of Manus Celes. It's why Nephili Loux leaves and doubts Gideon's motives, and in abandoning her he even mentions that she's probably what the Queen wants.

He's not interested in Marika's will, but he seems more focused on using everyone to become Elden Lord, while being unable to recognize that he's treating everyone like things — exactly the way Pidia does.

Pidia just uses other faces in his puppets to treat people poorly like he does to you through Seluvis, even attempting to make a puppet of the true descendant of Horah Loux the first Elden Lord, as well as make the demigod Ranni his puppet. Gideon doesn't believe a Tarnished can be Elden Lord, and is destroying the salvation of the Albinaurics as well — which is how Mohgwyn's territory became filled with the helpless second generation Albinaurics.

Both of them brought nothing but more suffering to their own by displacing their self-hatred into using others. Neither of them know what to do when their pawns and puppets turn against them. Both of them deserve their deaths — Pidia killed by his own puppets and Gideon killed by you, the Tarnished he thought he could use like everyone else.

                                            • My first playthrough I did Ranni's questline and was exploring around Three Sisters when I hear this old man dying lmao. Good riddance!

                                              • Anonymous

So, are Pidia and Seluvis the same person? Seluvis doesn't seem to be dead, he has the same slumped down pose as every other "puppet."

Is Seluvis just a puppet himself used by this... thing?

                                                • Anonymous

Evidence that this guy is puppetting Selvius the whole time:
The "Oh! You!" recognition upon first meeting him.
Selvius' body goes limp like the dolls in his lab, and still dispenses ashes after Ranni leaves; if Selvius was really a corpse, you'd no longer be able to interact with it, instead he's basically a vending machine.
Selvius' limpness timing exactly with Pidia losing control of his dolls; being murdered makes it hard to puppeteer.
Dolores' ashes being on his body if you didn't find Nepheli; the old favorite puppet. But if you do potion Nepheli, she becomes the new favorite, and will be found on him instead, while he then offers Dolores for sale.
The puppets killing him; the hatred they have towards him.
The fact he made a map to the ingredient for the Amber Draught.

Also Selvius' arrogant condescension as a puppet would be a great expression of this guy's inner feelings, while playing meek when in person. Just like a modern day keyboard warrior on the internet, hiding behind an online persona!

The only other theory I can think of is that this guy, jealous of Selvius' stash, slipped him a puppet potion and stole his favorite puppet; he wasn't able to control them without Selvius, though, and they took their revenge out on him.

                                                  • I just posted this tidbit in the the other page on Seluvis. Pidia is likely the mastermind. When he dies, take his ball bearing to the twin maiden husks. There they will sell you a weathered map that shows the location of the amber starlight that Seluvis was seeking. It's more likely the Pidia was using Seluvis to have you run an errand for him.

Question is, was it really Ranni or someone else that turned the puppets on Pidia / Seluvis?

                                                    • Anonymous

It's implied that Pida was the real puppet master and the Seluvis you've been interacting with until now was only Pida's puppet. Pida knows who you are before you interact with him (see his first line of dialogue above) because he was seeing you through his puppet Seluvis. He also tells the puppets he "loved them with everything he had" when the puppets are killing him, implying he was the one..."using" them.

Really disturbing little details that just make this game even more interesting.

                                                      • Seluvis is the master mind or Ranni is. When Ranni leaves (becomes a small puppet), Seluvis dies. When you go near where Pidia is, he is still alive, he is pleading with the puppets, if you go near enough he is killed of off by the puppets. Either Seluvis or Ranni was controlling the puppets, now not anymore or just a task to kill Pidia.

Also Seluvis made play toys from Sellen, two copies, one is between Ranni's and Renna's Rise and the other is in Limgrave Witchbane Ruins, the former is silent, the latter is mentally broken and moaning. Not to mention the 3rd Sellen has to do what Seluvis asks her with a letter to help you. No idea if the Waypoint Ruins Cellar Sellen is real or also a puppet.

                                                        • Anonymous

Either Seluvis or Ranni was controlling the puppets, now not anymore or just a task to kill Pidia.

Also Seluvis made play toys from Sellen, two copies, one is between Ranni's and Renna's Rise and the other is in Limgrave Witchbane Ruins, the former is silent, the latter is mentally broken and moaning. Not to mention the 3rd Sellen has to do what Seluvis asks her with a letter to help you. No idea if the Waypoint Ruins Cellar Sellen is real or also a puppet.

One of the few deaths in this game i didn't feel bad about once i found out what he was doing in his underground lab

                                                              • Seluvis was a corpse after Ranni left, after that I went to check on Pidia, when I got near enough he was pleading with the puppets, when I got there, he was killed off. Seluvis was dead before Pidia was dead.
So that idea that Pidia was controlling Seluvis is nonsense. Seluvis was using him and the other puppets, when Seluvis dies, the puppets go out of control and kill Pidia.
Also Seluvis has made 2 copies of Sellen, one is between Renna's and Renni's Rise as his play toy. And the other one mentall broken (moaning) is in Limgrave Witchbane Ruins.

                                                                      /s

                                                                        • Anonymous

                                                                          • Anonymous

                                                                              • Anonymous

This item is used to progress Preceptor Seluvis's questline. The Amber Starlight was in the game before the most recent patch, but it was never explained where to find it, at least to my knowledge. The Weathered Map does a poor job of showing you where the Amber Starlight is located. teleport to the Atlus Highway Junction site of grace and proceed east a little bit to where the stairs first begin going up to the outer gate and turn directly North. head north and you will see a crevice splitting the cliff you are looking at. inside the crevice is the Amber Starlight key item. You can actually see the ravine on the world map. it is the oval shaped split.

                                                                                • Anonymous

                                                                                    • Anonymous

                                                                                      • Anonymous

There is a small ravine to the north of where the stairway begins and to the west of Stormcaller Church where you can find the Amber Starlight, which is needed to progress Seluvis' scheming quest.

                                                                                        • Anonymous

                                                                                          • Anonymous

Seluvis requests the Amber Starlight for his draught, and this map leads to it. The description of the map specifically mentions "streaks of amber light", and it shows stars falling on a spot slightly north of the bottom of the stairs leading up to the double Tree Sentinel fight. On the world map, it is a somewhat darker area between Stormcaller Church and Sainted Hero's Grave, and it is accessible from a small path on the same level as the Altus Highway Junction site of grace.

                                                                                            • Anonymous

                                                                                                • Anonymous

It is located North East of the Altus Highway Junction. If you follow the small path that appears to fade away on your map at the fork, it will lead you into a small tunnel. On the other end of the tunnel will be a statue with the item.

                                                                                                  • Anonymous

                                                                                                    • Anonymous

Bottom half of the map is showing the bridge, top half with the lights is the lightning from the furgol plant things.

                                                                                                      • Anonymous

Its near the beginning of Altus Plateau; north of the paved path that goes directly east into the twin tree sentinels. The map only shows the path and then streaks of amber near where the starlight is.
