Purifies the Lord of Blood's curse in a mixed physick
|
Purifying Crystal Tear is a Crystal Tear in Elden Ring. Crystal Tears can be used and mixed to enhance the effects of the Flask of Wondrous Physick. Like other Crystal Tears, it is not lost in New Game Plus.
A crystal tear formed slowly over the age where the Erdtree's bounty falls to the ground.
Can be mixed in the Flask of Wonderous Physick.
The resulting concoction purifies the curse from Mohg, Lord of Blood's terrifying rite of blood.
Where to find Purifying Crystal Tear
- Dropped by Eleonora, Violet Bloody Finger at the Second Church of Marika in Altus Plateau. [ Map Link]
Purifying Crystal Tear Notes & Tips
- Used to negate the curse effect during the fight against Mohg, Lord of Blood.
- Can be used at any point in the boss fight, before the second phase transition, to prevent all blood loss from the curse, although the boss still gets his health back.
- You can find Crystal Tears at the bases of Minor Erdtrees, and elsewhere throughout the Lands Between.
- At sites of grace, you can mix two Crystal Tears in the Flask of Wondrous Physick. (This will allow you to create elixirs with various custom effects)

I had no idea this was a thing, I was so annoyed that Mohg had an attack that forced me to use 3 flasks just to survive.

Am I the only person that killed one of those ulcerated tree spirits and got it cause I’m very confused

Why couldn't this have dropped from "Mogh THE OMEN" instead of a seemingly random NPC drop from Yura's questline?
It'd be super cool if this gave you a temporary immunity against Blood Loss for the next 3 Blood Loss inflicting attacks, so that'd it still be somewhat useful even outside of the intended use against Mohg. It wouldn't make you take less damage, but it will stop you from getting insta-bled by someone powerstancing Cross-Naginata crouch pokes, or Storm Stomp -> Raptor Talons R2 true combo. Or Imps, don't forget the Imps.

Does it work once? Or does it negate his blood effects for a duration.

If you're having trouble with Mohg, just summon mimic tear with Godslayer greatsword. I mean, yeah mimic is cheap as hell but so is the game so dont feel bad about it if you're really stuck and not having fun. Games are supposed to be fun, not stressful. That's what work/school is for!

This crystal tear really should of been "Significantly negates the next three instances of bleed damage." That way it would serve its purpose of countering Mohg's Nihil, while also serving a dual purpose of a anti-bleed meta pickup as well as a way for arcane builds to get off free seppuku's. This would allow it under ideal circumstances to mostly block the 300+45% of health that three Seppuku's would inflict as well as trigger the white mask+Lord of blood's exultation which would make this a potential flask choice for arcane builds.
Sadly in it's current form it's a incredible niche situation PVE tear which people won't wish to put on there flask for general small Golden Effigy co-op meaning that they won't if knowledgeable activate the summoning pools in Mohg's area rendering the area rather inactive for co-op/invasions. If it was ever updated (no chance) it'd be quite appropriate that bleed builds are more prevalent as co-op summons in the bleed focused area of the game due to them potentially running the tear that counters the boss as part of there normal setup.

I really wish this item was hinted at better. I LOVE the idea of a boss fight that requires a specific item to protect yourself from their super powered trump card, but it's annoying that you can only find this either through Google or sheer luck. Just a note from the local merchant about a rumoured counter Mohg's blood ritual somewhere in Altus would've been great

Genuinely if this thing added +120 robustness (bleed & frost resist) for 3mins alongside this effect it would be great outside the boss too, I know the Speckled Hardtear adds 90 to all resistances but it could be situationally more useful to have this since bleed/frost builds are so common in PVP. Plus sacrificing both flask slots to effectively negate bleed isn't too overpowered imo.

Dudes done beat me like 35 times. I can get him to his 2nd phase pretty quickly and consistently but I don't live long enough afterwards to figure out the dodge timing of his attacks. And I'm literally just now finding out about this crystal tear lol
- Anonymous
So, Mohg still heals himself, but I don't die. Fair enough.
- Anonymous
This damn thing doesn't work. Yeah it reduces the damage form the attack to a chip but Mohg still heals like a fifth of his health from that. Great implementation of a one-battle-only item.
- Anonymous
Wait, you guys are letting Mohg live long enough to Nihil?
- Anonymous
It would be neat if this reduced the effects of another player's Bloodmoon Ritual. Not useful at all since that would require you to setup your flask just to screw over one specific weapon but neat, nonetheless.

I'd doesn't disappear on ng+ I just started ng+ and still have it and not even got to atlus plateu

If you're an INT build, combine this with Cerulean Hidden Tear (removes FP cost for a duration) and blast 'em with a full-charged Azur Comet while he's doing nihil. He's standing still and there should be plenty of damage to negate his healing.
- Anonymous
I don't mind how obscure and strange of a mechanic this is but I dislike that he still heals even if his curse thing fails.
Feels like a half commitment on From's part.
- Anonymous
I should note, I am on NG+2 and have not been to the altus plateau in this playthrough, and I have it in my inventory. so the "Unlike other Crystal Tears, it is lost in New Game Plus" is completely false.

Yea thanks from. How foolish of me for not realizing i need a random crystal tear i get from a random npc questline without 0 hints just to fight a bossfight without wasting 2 estus flasks. Honestly such good game design. I hope they remaster ds3 and make it so you can only get the storm ruler by doing siegwards questline.

Mohg: N I H I L
Me: N O N I H I L
Mohg: no nihil?
Me: N O N I H I L
Mohg: "sad mohg noises"
- Anonymous
Note this does not stop Mohg’s heal, it just makes you not take the blood loss per Nihil
- Anonymous
this item is useful for people running around with less than 30 vigor or just dont wanna spend 1-2 flask to stay full health during his curse
- Anonymous
This might be a stupid question, but does this work against the Nihil weapon art in PvP

I both love and hate this tear, On one hand, I really like the concept of items that you aren't told about that can help in boss battles. It makes you feel really good when you remember that some object you found on your own could be used for this specific moment. Problem is, without knowing about it before hand, 95% of people will never be able to use this. The fact that it's found super far away, and only from an invasion that is part of a questline you may not even find in the first place, means, even if you trigger the invasion, it could be tens or 100+ hours until you actually fight Mohg so you'll probably forget all about it, or, you could have already fought him by the time you get it. Also, the fact that the thing that this tear will help with is forced damage sucks. So if you don't find it and use it, which most won't, you have to take damage. It would have been so much better if they had placed this early on in Mohgwyn's Palace so that, 1. you actually have a good chance of finding it, 2. you don't find it right before the fight, which would be a bit lame and 3. it would also be close enough that you would remember that you picked it up. I think that Margit's Shackle is an example of this idea being executed better.

i dont know what people are saying about "Purifying Crystal Tear doesn't guard against the curse" You're just timing the usage wrong, always do it when he goes to Unus, because he's soon to activate his curse attack around the same time
- Anonymous
Killed Yura when he was spawning in the second church thinking I was invaded, any way to still get this?
- Anonymous
I did Mohg before reading about this tear, it isn't required for the fight. Just be prepared to chug an estus for each curse circle going off.
- Anonymous
This tear lasts at least 6 mins (stopped timing after 6 mins) so slam it before the fight starts.
- Anonymous
It doesn't purify the curse, just gives you a shield against some of the damage. Biggest lie ever
- Anonymous
OK so this **** is broken, it seems. I got invaded and never got the tear. Guess I'm not doing Mohg on this playthrough.
- Anonymous
Didn’t drop from the invader and the site of grace also didn’t spawn.

This item should also grant immunity to bleed for 3 minutes. This way it'll serve as more than just an item that's useful for a single boss fight and will indirectly balance bleed weapons in pvp (which as of 1.03.2 are a little overpowered) while keeping them strong for pve.
- Anonymous
So many people use this with their bleed builds having no idea what it does, quite funny really. Do they think it buffs them?

With Patch 1.03 the Purifying Tear doesnt negate the whole damage any more and Mohg still heals which he didn't before.
They should just have cranked up his 1st phase instead imo aas he still is basicly a onehsot and doesnt move at all as he just goes tres duo.... until he reaches 2nd stage. Guess the healing makes kinda sense as he doesnt die now during the Nihil power which he did before which made him by far one of the easiest bosses as he was busy doing his blood curse while getting destroyed

This is worth to use in the battle since it gives you like 10s of free damage. Doot doot mf-ed lord of blood to death.

My flask of wonderous physick isnt refilling after I used this for the mohg fight I've tried resting at different sites of grace, changing tears but nothing is working. It just wont refill
- Anonymous
It does not works against the weapon in pvp (shame could have had some use outside a single boss)
- Anonymous
this can be useful for tricking people at pvp, bc the effect is similar to the tear that tanks 1 hit
- Anonymous
The obligatory hidden item to make boss easier that 99% of players will miss because its not even remotely close to the boss

I wish this removed the red eye effect and allowed the golxen eye effect too

Genuinely thought the boss fight was impossible at level 1 until I saw this was a thing...nice.

Doesn't actually make you immune to the nihil thing, you take a little bit of damage. For safety, if your health is below a third or quarter, heal! Also i guess the only way to no-hit mohg is to just respec into full int and comet azur...
- Anonymous
When you use this, you get a red bubble around your character that shatters on the third cast of his AoE, preventing all damage taken. It lasts a long time so you can use it before the fight starts and not worry about the phase transition.
- Anonymous
does anybody know if this removes the current curse mohg adds or if it’s an effect with a duration that can prevent the curse throughout the fight?
- Anonymous
Am I the only one who thinks they should do a better job leading players to this tear? I had to look up how to avoid nihil and was led to a random ass church
- Anonymous
Yura's questline doesn't need to be done. I wasn't invaded on my first visit, but after fighting Mohg she invaded.
I also killed shunning grounds Mohg, if that counts
- Anonymous
I found this about 5-10 minutes after beating him without knowing of its existence.

This item can still be acquired if you partially do Yura’s questline. All I did with him was the Reduvia invasion that he helps with and I also talked to him after killing Ahgeel. After he’d already been possessed I thought I might be screwed, but I went to the spot he’s supposed to be at by the Academy Main Gate and his katana was laying on the ground. After picking this up I went to the church and was invaded.
- Anonymous
I definitely dont remember doing anything for Yura's questline before I came back to kill the invader for this, probably not a prerequisite
Eleonora spawned for me by revisiting the church for cleanup before NG+. The only part of Yura's Quest I did was killing the invader with Reduvia near Murkwater Cave - didnt speak to him near Agheel, didnt help him invade in Lucaria Academy and didnt speak to him at any place. Yet she invades me even if Yura is already dead / possessed by Shabriri. The only thing Im missing from his quest is his weapon and whatever the guy in the academy drops.
I guess its made that way so you wont miss out on that crucial item for Mohg.

Note: Using the tear in the flask for the boss fight doesn't stop him from healing, but does prevent you being being bled.
This strangely affects mohgs bleed moves. He kept spamming bloodboone and it dealt 0 damage with direct point blank hits.
