Ranni the Witch is an NPC in Elden Ring. Ranni the Witch is a mysterious figure who first introduces herself as Renna. Upon meeting her again at Three Sisters, she reveals her true name and eventually will recruit you into her servitude, sending you off in search of a hidden treasure. This page covers vital information for Ranni's questline for Elden Ring.

I am the witch Ranni. I stole Death long ago, and search now for the dark path.

Ranni is the daughter of Radagon and Rennala. After Radagon departed and became the consort to Marika, Ranni and her siblings were raised to demigod status, as they were now the children of the consort of a goddess. She appears to have some involvement in The Night of Black Knives, where Black Knife Assassins stole a shard of the Rune of Death and murdered Godwyn, the Golden. At the same time, Ranni seems to have lost her original body and now resides as spirit inhabiting an artificial doll body, seeking to restore her Empyrean status with the aid of blacksmith Iji, preceptor Seluvis, wolf warrior Blaidd, and the Tarnished.

Ranni the Witch Location in Elden Ring

Ranni the Witch can be found at Ranni's Rise in the Three Sisters sub-region of Liurnia of the Lakes for a majority of  Ranni's questline.

Ranni Questline: How to Complete Ranni's Quest in Elden Ring

Ranni's Quest - First Meeting

  • Ranni is first encountered going by the name Renna, when the player teleports to the Church of Elleh early on, after you have met Melina and acquired Torrent
  • Once she has arrived, she will call out to the player to approach and speak with them. Upon doing so and answering her question in the affirmative, she will gift the player with the Spirit Calling Bell and the Lone Wolf Ashes. She will then disappear after being spoken to again, walking far enough away from her, or attempting to rest at the Site of Grace. [Map Link]

Ranni's Quest - Missed First Meeting

  • If the player somehow misses their first encounter with Ranni, this will not prevent her quest from being completed. She can next be found in the Liurnia region, at the top of Ranni's Rise. To access the area where Ranni's Rise resides, you must defeat Royal Knight Loretta at the Caria Manor.
  • If her initial encounter is missed, where she gifts the player the Spirit Calling Bell and Lone Wolf Ashes, both can then be found and purchased from the Twin Maiden Husks at the Roundtable Hold.
  • Please note, Ranni will not appear in the Ranni's Rise for the next step of her quest line if the Radahn Festival has already started at Redmane Castle (the Radahn Festival begins outside of Ranni's quest line progression if you have either activated the Grand Lift of Dectus or activated any Sites of Grace found within the Altus Plateau). This is because Blaidd is required to continue her quest line and he will not leave the Radahn Festival until Starscourge Radahn has been defeated. Once Starscourge Radahn has been defeated, Ranni will reappear at Ranni's Rise and her quest line can be continued from then on.

Ranni's Quest - The Hidden Treasure of Nokron

  • Ranni is later found in Liurnia atop Ranni's Rise. She tasks the player with finding the hidden treasure of Nokron and asks that you speak with three people in her service: War Counselor Iji, Half-Wolf Warrior Blaidd, and Preceptor Seluvis. The three will then appear as spectral projections within her tower that can be spoken with.
    • The player will be unable to leave the tower area until all three people have been spoken with and their dialogue exhausted (a fog wall barrier will physically block the player from leaving the area by foot/hoof and fast travel will be disabled). After speaking to the three, returning to Ranni and speaking with her will have her reveal that she is going to fall into a deep slumber soon and will not be able to speak with the player for some time. Once the player is finished speaking with Ranni, the player will be able to leave the area and fast travel again as normal.
    • Upon first meeting her at Ranni's Rise, if she tells you to begone after mentioning the curse mark on her discarded body and won't recruit you into her service, you will need to return to Rogier at the Roundtable Hold and speak with him. He will suggest that you join into her service in order to learn more about where her curse mark could be found. You can then return to Ranni and speak with her to continue her quest line.
  • Blaidd will be waiting in the Siofra River area [Map Link] (travel east from the Siofra River Bank Site of Grace until you reach the area where a Spirit Spring can be found, Blaidd will be standing nearby, however, be sure to defeat any enemies nearby as they can persue you and cause issues with speaking with Blaidd). He will reveal that he suspects that Preceptor Seluvis knows more than he lets on and suggests that you go and speak with him. Upon speaking with Seluvis, he will inform you that Sorceress Sellen might have some information as to how to enter Nokron, and then provides you with Seluvis's Introduction to show her. Upon speaking with Sellen at the Waypoint Ruins and showing her Seluvis's Introduction, she informs the player that Starscourge Radahn has used his power to stop the movement of the stars, and that the only way to restore their movement and find an entrance into Nokron is to slay him.
    • NOTE: Informing Blaidd of what you've learned from Sellen concerning the stars and Radahn's actions will trigger the festival and temporarily alter the accessible layout of Redmane Castle also potentially pausing certain NPC quests and interactions. Moreso, there have been cases where only talking to Sellen without talking to Blaidd afterwards also causes the festival to trigger.
    • Please note, if the player was unable to tolerate his "pleasant demeanor" and has killed Preceptor Seluvis, Blaidd will be hostile to you, and cause Ranni's quest line to halt until the player seeks Absolution at the Church of Vows.
    • Alternative ways to trigger the festival (and thus to kill Starscourge Radahn) are:
      • Accessing Altus Plateau, either via activating the Grand Lift of Dectus or through the Ruin-Strewn Precipice, will automatically trigger the festival on Redmane Castle.
      • The player can also access Redmane Castle earlier, talk to Jerren and tell him about Iji, which in turn will suggest you to tell something to Iji. If the player then goes back to Iji and talks to him about Jerren, he will tell the player about going back to the festival, thus activating it. This can be done even if the player hasn't met Blaidd at Siofra River.
  • Once Radahn has been slain, the stars will be freed to continue their flight, with one of them landing somewhere nearby. Returning to Iji and speaking with him reveals that the fallen star struck Limgrave (the site is south of Mistwood, fairly close to the ruins where the player could have first met Blaidd) and has created a new entrance into Nokron. Travelling to Limgrave, the landing site is hard to miss, as gravity magic from the fallen star has caused large chunks of rock to become permanently suspended in the air above the landing site. By carefully making their way down, the player can reach the city of Nokron. To reach the section of the city that holds the treasure Ranni wants, you must push through until you reach the Ancestral Woods Site of Grace [Map Link] and then jump across the nearby ledge and back into the city. Continue onward into the city and you will eventually find a treasure chest containing the Fingerslayer Blade, the secret treasure of Nokron that Ranni seeks.

Ranni's Quest - Releasing Ranni

  • [!] Please note; Giving Ranni the Fingerslayer Blade will cause Preceptor Seluvis to become a lifeless puppet, which effectively locks you out of further interaction in his questline (And possibly prevents you from giving Seluvis' Potion to Dung Eater). If you want to get the Magic Scorpion Charm from Seluvis in this playthrough, you need to start and/or continue through his quest line until he gifts the amulet to you, before giving Ranni the Fingerslayer Blade. After recieving the Magic Scorpion Charm, you may safely carry on with Ranni's quest line.
    • If Seluvis has given you the Amber Draught to give to Ranni at this point, once you have given her the Fingerslayer Blade you will no longer have the option to give the Amber Draught to Ranni.
      • However, don't be afraid of losing the option to give her the Amber Draught;  As you aren't rewarded with anything for trying to give it to her, because it doesn't work on her and only serves to make her disappointed with you and halt her quest line until you seek Absolution at the Church of Vows.
  • Upon returning to Ranni and giving her the Fingerslayer Blade, she will reward the player with the Carian Inverted Statue, which they can use at the pedestal at the entrance to the Carian Study Hall to reach the top of the Divine Tower of Liurnia. After speaking with her, Ranni will leave to continue her quest alone. Upon arriving at the top of the Divine Tower of Liurnia, you will be able to find the Cursemark of Death upon the remains of Ranni's original body, which is severely burnt.
  • After giving the Fingerslayer Blade to Ranni, you can speak with Iji, and he will tell you where Ranni has gone (mentioning Renna's Rise in the process) and the Carian Filigreed Crest will be added to his merchant inventory for purchase, if you had yet to unlock its availability.
  • At this point, the seal blocking access to Renna's Rise will have vanished, allowing access inside the tower. Upon reaching the top of the ladder within, you can find a chest containing the Snow Witch Set that Ranni wore. Upon reaching the top of the tower, you can find a waygate that will transport you to Ainsel River Main, where you can loot a Miniature Ranni doll nearby. After acquiring the doll, rest at the Ainsel River Main Site of Grace. [Map Link] You will see a new option listed amongst the others, that being "Talk to miniature Ranni." Select this option three times and Ranni will speak to you revealing that Ranni has possessed the doll. Annoyed at your interference, she will then task the player with defeating the Baleful Shadow found further into the area. The Baleful Shadow can be found just beyond the Nokstella Waterfall Basin Site of Grace in Nokstella, Eternal City. It is an agile and fairly strong opponent, so take caution when fighting it. After defeating the Baleful Shadow, Ranni will thank the player and reward them with the Discarded Palace Key. Ranni will then say farewell as she still has things to do, her spirit leaving the doll.

Ranni's Quest - Returning to Ranni

  • You are able to use the Discarded Palace Key to unlock the chest found in the Raya Lucaria Grand Library next to Rennala. Inside you will find the Dark Moon Ring. With this ring in hand, travel back to the Lake of Rot in the Ainsel River area, and continue onward into the Grand Cloister.
  • By interacting with the stone coffin in the Grand Cloister [Map Link] (you can interact with it from a distance so that you do not have to stand in the Scarlet Rot water), the player can access a new area where they can find and defeat Astel, Naturalborn of the Void. After its defeat, a new exit path can be traversed through (without having the Dark Moon Ring, an impassable magic seal blocks this exit). This path allows access to the southern-most section of Liurnia, the Moonlight Altar. Your next destination is the nearby Cathedral of Manus Celes. After collecting the 11 Starlight Shards scattered about, drop down the hole near the Site of Grace and continue through the tunnel until you reach a recent battle site.
  • Interact with Ranni's doll body to place the Dark Moon Ring on Ranni's finger. Her doll body will then disappear and Ranni, fully restored to her previous life-sized doll form, will appear and thank the player. She confirms that the player is now her consort, and promises that they will meet again. After Ranni vanishes, an item will appear where she once stood. Loot the item to acquire the Dark Moon Greatsword.
  • Provided Ranni's quest line has been completed, after defeating the Elden Beast, a blue summon sign will appear on the ground near Marika's broken remains. The player can interact with this summon sign (instead of interacting with Marika's remains) to acquire the "Age of the Stars" ending. Doing so will also unlock a related game achievement/trophy.

§Meeting at Church of Elleh

エレの教会で挨拶

This way, Tarnished.
May I have a word?

A pleasure to meet thee, Tarnished.
I am the witch Renna.
I'd heard tell of a Tarnished hurtling about
atop a spectral steed.

And upon looking into the matter,
the talk,
I surmise,
is of thee.

Thou'rt possessed of the power, no?
To call forth the spectral steed named Torrent.

§「I can call the spectral steed」

Ah. As I had hoped.
I was entrusted this, for thee.

By Torrent's former master.
'Tis a bell for calling forth spirits.

Summon them with it, from ash unreturned to the Erdtree.

The spirits will obey thine command but briefly,
as they recall battles past.

Now it is thine.
To do with as thou wishest.

Forgive mine intrusion, Tarnished.
I doubt we shall again meet.
But all the same, learn well the Lands Between.

How long will it be, I wonder...
Before the Tarnished tire of obesiance to the Two Fingers?

§「I cannot call the spectral steed」

Trifle not with me, Tarnished.
Or didst thou merely forget?
The name of the spectral steed thou callest?

I will ask thee again.
Thou'rt possessed of the power, no?
To call forth the spectral steed named Torrent.

Quite the stubborn one, aren't we?
Wise, in a way.
The Lands Between are home to liars
and cheats aplenty.

Perhaps thine ample mistrust will be to thy benefit.

I shall leave this for thee,
at the behest of Torrent's former master.

Take it, shouldst thou overcome thy suspicion.

No reason in particular, thou claimest?
Intriguing.
Then mayhaps fate hath steered thee to this reunion.

Wilt thou enter into my service?

I am the witch Ranni.
I stole Death long ago,
and search now for the dark path.

That I might one day upend the whole of it,
and rid the world of all that came before.

Well?
Has that roused thy interest?

I anticipate good work from thee.

§After agreeing to help Sorcerer Rogier find the「Cursemark of Death

...and before meeting Ranni

You must be Ranni the Witch,
behind the Night of the Black Knives

I see.
Quite the sleuth, aren't we.

Indeed, I am the witch Ranni.
I stole a fragment of the Rune of Death,
and used it to forge the godslaying black knives through fearsome rite.

I did it all.

But sadly for thee,
the cursemark thou seekest is not to be found here.

I have slain the body I was born into,
and cast it away.
And it is upon that flesh the cursemark is carved.

Where did the body go?

And why should I reveal that to thee?

I performed the act not to bury the past,
nor in shame of the deed,
but all the same,
the begging compels me not a jot.

The cursermark thou seekest is not here.
That is all I will say.
Now, begone.

I wish to serve you

Oh, is that so?

Thou wouldst render me aid,
is that thy proposal?

Affording thyself opportunity to grope about for the cursemark's location, no doubt?

Very well...

There's nothing wrong with a well-laid scheme.

What's more, if my past and past wounds beckon to thee,

I am curious enough to see what thy destiny portends...

I'll allow it.
Enter my service.

And good hunting to thee.

§After agreeing to enter her service,

Good, then I ask we proceed with haste.

There is, in my service, a half-wolven warrior by the name of Blaidd.

I would have thee join him in searching for the hidden treasure of Nokron, the Eternal City.
I have called for Blaidd to greet thee below.
Take from him the particulars.

Ah, and there wilt thou find Iji, my war counselor,
and Seluvis, preceptor in the sorcerous arts, also.

Heed not their peculiarities;
feel secure in gaining from them what advantage thou canst.

I am sure the others will be doing just the same.

Speak with the three who await thee below.
Thou needst not indulge them unduly,
but they too wish to appraise thy worth.
It hath been a passing long time since a newcomer entered my service, after all.

Good, then I ask we proceed with haste.

Art thou aware of the star that struck Limgrave?

It left a vast crater,
and through it lieth the Eternal City of Nokron.
Go there and find the city's hidden treasure.

Ah, yes.
Iji, my war counselor,
and Seluvis, preceptor in the sorcerous arts,
can be found below.

Like thee, they are in my service.
Heed not their peculiarities;
feel secure in gaining from them what advantage thou canst.
I am sure the others will be doing just the same.

Still, I have high hopes for thee.
I look forward to the good news when I arise.

Didst thou think to have thy way with me?

You may leave now.
It was but brief,

Let us speak of the past, a while.

I was once an Empyrean.
Of the demigods, only I, Miquella, and Malenia could claim that title.

Each of us was chosen by our own Two Fingers,
as a candidate to succeed Queen Marika,
to become the new god of the coming age.
Which is when I received Blaidd.
In the form of a vassal tailored for an Empyrean.

But I would not acquiesce to the Two Fingers.

I stole the Rune of Death,
slew mine own Empyrean flesh,
casting it away.

I would not be controlled by that thing.

The Two Fingers and I have been cursing each other ever since...
And the Baleful Shadows...
are their assassins.

I turned my back on the Two Fingers
and we each have been cursing the other since.

The Baleful Shadows... are their assassins.

Though he was created a vassal for an Empyrean,
He was a colossal failure,
on the part of the Two Fingers.

Blaidd, and Iji both...
Art willing to give too much to me.

Yet they both understand.
What lieth beyond the dark path...

That I must betray everything,
and rid the world of what came before.

Ah, should I add thee to the list?
Another one, kind of heart.
As kind of heart as they.

Elden Ring Ranni the Witch Notes & Trivia

  • She is the daughter of Rennala, Queen of the Full Moon, and Radagon, as well as the only daughter the two had while together.
  • Ranni's body was willingly slain along with Godwyn's soul (unwillingly) on the Night of the Black Knives, leading to Ranni binding her soul to a life-sized doll, modeled in the likeness of her former mentor.
As seen on her former body, she had also inherited the red hair of her father, Radagon.
  • Ranni is one of the Empyreans chosen by the Two Fingers.
    • Ranni, unlike the other Empyreans, sought to free herself and her fate from the influence of the Two Fingers. With the help of the Tarnished she eventually killed the specific Two Fingers entity that held sway over her fate under the Cathedral of Manus Celus, using the Fingerslayer Blade, a weapon that was designed specifically to slay those of the Two Fingers.
  • Blaidd is Ranni's Empyrean shadow and adopted half-brother, gifted to her by the Two Fingers, just as Maliketh was for Marika.
  • Coincidentally, Ranni falls into a deep slumber at about the same time as Sorcerer Rogier.
  • After completing her quest line, a new Site of Grace called "Ranni's Chamber" will appear at the top of Ranni's Rise. [Map Link] While resting at that Site of Grace, you have the option to speak to the Miniature Ranni. Doing so will have Ranni's spirit explain the details of her plan and her intentions for the world. Hearing this dialogue will change the way Ranni addresses you in the Age of Stars ending, from "Fair Consort" to "Dear Consort".
  • Ranni's dialogue during the Age of Stars ending was mistranslated. In the English script, Ranni states that her age will be that of the chill night, and that she wishes to make the certainties of sight, touch, faith and emotion become impossibilities. However, in the Japanese script, Ranni states that she wishes to take the chill night away, she doesn't say that she wishes to take away emotions and sensations, but that she wants to take her order and herself far away from the world. She believes that the world is better off if the order that people live within is so far away that it is not something that can be seen, touched, or worshiped. To do so, she will leave the world along with her new order, preventing either from interfering with the Lands Between and those that reside there as its ordained god, unlike Marika under the influence of the Two Fingers and the Greater Will.
  • Some speculate that Ranni is the Gloam-Eyed Queen of the Godskin Apostles, but as of yet there is no reasonable evidence to prove as such. However, she is almost certainly associated with the Black Knife Assassins.
  • Some speculate that Ranni and Melina have some sort of close connection, as both are spirits who lost their former bodies and both have opposing eye seals, a trait not seen in any other characters. However, given that Ranni's current doll body (and thus perhaps her eye seal) is based on her former mentor, the old snow witch, it might be that the old snow witch is the one with a connection to Melina, not Ranni.
  • Ranni's doll body shares a similarity with the Marionette enemies found throughout the Lands Between that appear to also have come from Liurnia, in that they both were built to have four arms.
  • If Ranni is attacked after giving her Dark Moon Ring in front of the slayed two finger, she will have a protective barrier, give some dialogue about it being what she deserved for surrounding herself with delusions and then disappear. (Blaidd will still appear Feral and you will be able to obtain his armor and weapon.). Using Celestial Dew to atone, will bring Ranni back to her position below the Church (in front of the slain two fingers)
  • If you read the description of the Dark Moon Greatsword, it reveals that swords such as it were created to be given to the betrothed of the Carian queen, as is tradition. Given this, had Ranni become the queen of Caria, Ranni's betrothed would have given her the Dark Moon Ring and Ranni would have given them the Dark Moon Greatsword in return upon the day of their betrothal.
  • It appears that Ranni's Great Rune is etched upon the surface of the moon. Gideon says that Ranni had cast aside her Great Rune, and the symbol appearing on the moon would likely be where she had placed it.
  • Ranni likely had a close connection (besides being siblings) with Praetor Rykard at some point in the past, given this part of the description of the Blasphemous Blade tool item "On the night of the dire plot, Ranni rewarded Praetor Rykard with these traces. Should the coming trespass one day transpire, they would serve as a last-resort foil, allowing Rykard to challenge Maliketh the Black Blade, the black beast of Destined Death." This trust in him may be tied to his utter disdain and rejection of the Erdtree and the Two Fingers, which he later acted upon during the events of The Shattering. Allowing himself to be devoured by the great sperpent of sin and thus become one with it.
  • (Still testing) If you attack Ranni or her Allies at all before she falls into her slumber, Ranni will no longer become available to you at Ranni's Rise. Using Celestial Dew to atone, will bring Ranni back to her place.

I dont like how she gets so arrogant instead of being kind to me after I beat Radahn for her & get her the fingerslayer. I got the things moving for her and this is how she acts in miniature doll form.

Funny to see the battle in the comments. Personally speaking, I think it's about time Ranni and her ending were challenged.

While there's no doubt hers is a very popular ending, for good reasons, it's equally obvious that she is, at best, a morally dubious character. It was inevitable that many wouldn't be on board with it , and now that the hype train has dampened after 2 years, a lot of such opinions are coming out, not just here but in other places such as YouTube.

But I gotta say, some of these criticisms are just ........ incomprehensible. There's plenty of reasonable arguments one can make instead of reaching for the stars ( pun not intended).

weird the sudden uprise of ranni hate for some reason these days even with the ambiguity of the age of stars, wasn't the entire gaming industry rolling over on their bellies for her when elden ring dropped?

            • Anonymous

The moral posturing in regards to her actions and even her ending is ridiculous. No one actually cares. Hell, people don't even care what happens in the real world unless it directly involves them or those close to them. Her ending is overwhemingly popular because it involves Iji, Blaidd, Rogier and so many more. Without it, you don't have closure for these characters that people love. Bringing up Godwyn, who is a complete stranger to the audience, dies offscreen long before the events of the game and is basically just a McGuffin, and then acting like that'll change anyone's mind makes you look deeply unintelligent. Conversly, no one cares about ending the evils of the Golden Order either. It's all very annoying and obviously not what either party actually means, especially if you consider how often terms like "simp" are thrown around in this tiresome discussion.

              • Anonymous

To meet her the first time you need to have died at least once (tutorial boss doesn't count). I was confused why she wasn't appearing even though I progressed quite a bit after getting Torrent. Turns out I needed to die for her to appear.

if u never talked to blaidd until the radahn festival and hes missing, u can just go straight to nokron through the crater. idk if thats obvious and im just stupid but wtv

So is there a lore explanation as to why she can just delete you from life without lifting a finger, something neither other demigods nor Radagon and Elden Beast, a straight up gods, can do?Or I just have to accept that the explanation is "Miyazaki willed so"?

"Beautifully fought. My Thanks. 'Twas more of a challenge than I envisioned." Bro I literally just spammed frenzied burst at that thing, 5-6 casts and it went down, it didn't even got close, but okay lol

There are too types of ranni simps, the ones who lies and tries to deflect all criticism of her no matter if it’s true or not. And the ones who just admit that they are a simp.

                        • Anonymous

Ranni really has that moody, rebellious middle child personality, who hates Radagon and everything he stands for because he left for milk and never came back.

Can someone please tell me why ranni ending is so “good”, I mean ranni removes the influence of the outer gods, such as the greater will, let’s there be no order at all, leave to go with the moon and you fallow, and solve none of the problems in the lands between, like, okay you removed the outer gods, who cares people are still going to be fighting, death root still exist since it is not related to the outer gods. The minority species are still going to be oppressed, like you think inequality is going to just disappear like that, the golden order will still exist, even if it’s going to be in shambles and with out its leaders, people aren’t going to forget there gods, and will still likely worship and serve them even if they can’t communicate. So I will ask again, why is ranni ending “good”?

                            • Anonymous

I try my best to view the lore as objectively as possible and I just realized something. If Ranni really have sent the Black Knives to kill Iji and Blaidd, then whats the point of asking us to tell the both of them that she loves them? Especially since I've seen a couple of haters claiming that her love for them is a lie. That sounds like a pointless and a waste of time request if she never really loved them. Heck, the Black Knives reached Blaidd before us before we could tell him anything. Hopefully there will be a unbiased evidence and civility instead of petty insults being thrown left and right in the replies. The only thing I'm interested in is clear proof of who is the real culprit.

I doesn't matter if you love or hate Ranni, what matters is that we all can't save and marry Gwyndolin in 2024

Lazuli Robe - scholars, who sought to master Carian sorcery, instead learned to see the moon as equal to the stars. This robe, in the hue of the full moon, signifies their HERESY. Age of Stars is a misconception, it is more like Age of the Moon. Remember, the Moon has wisdom, is feared (Glintstone Icecrag) and has bewitched the Academy (Rennala’s Full Moon). I guess some people believe that bewitchment equals free will.

why do people have so much beef over people who pick the ending they want? it’s just one of six endings. i’ll admit. ranni’s ending was the first one i did. my favorite one? the chaos ending. doesn’t matter what you choose as long as you enjoy the game

It's odd how people below are spreading misinformation about Carians and Albinaurics. Carians don't hunt and torture Albinaurics, that's the Golden Order. You only find Black Dumpling Albinaurics in places associated with it: Volcano Manor, Castle Sol, Leyndell. Sorceres of the academy also despise them, but the academy isn't synonymous with Carians, as evidenced by the former locking away the latter's queen. Carians themselves have Albinaurics in their employ when you invade their manor, for example (presumably) Loretta and Pidia (even though he's horrible) as well as a couple unnamed ones defending the premise. In general, Carians seem much more accepting of other races than the Golden Order since the trolls that fight for them are knights rather than slaves. All this is also noted by Miquella, who is creating a haven for Albinaurics and seems to have looked up to the Carians so much that he modeled the Miquellan Knight's Sword after theirs.

Saying Carians are responsible for the treatmeant of Albinaurics is kind of absurd. It's basically inverting what actually takes place in the game. I'm genuinely dumbfounded how anyone could reach that conclusion unless they're informed by bad faith. So actually I don't even know why I'm posting this since my comment will most likely be downvoted by the brigade of angry people that have flooded this page for some reason.

Rennala’s Full Moon - Queen Rennala encountered this enchanting moon when she was young, and later, it would BEWITCH the Academy.

Glintstone Icecrag Spell - The snowy crone taught the young Ranni to FEAR the dark moon as she imparted her cold sorcery.

The Moon is like an evil version of the Greater Will who bewitch and instil fear. Where does it say that the Moon will grant free will to the people?

So the ranni haters are all unintelligent and unable to grasp even the most basic of concepts. They are incapable of reading her true meaning and I really pity them. I'm more than intelligent enough to pick up on her subtle tones as well as understand the true meaning of her words. She grants the lands between their freedom. She brings equality and allows individuals such as the misbegotten and omens to stand on equal ground. Everyone is given proper representation as the source of their oppression is removed. Those that disagree do not have the capacity for higher thought processes. As such anyone that is only going to spread hate towards her should not respond. I'm far more intelligent than you and would prefer not to puke by listening to your misogynistic views.

It’s amazing how the simps imagined all kinds of stuff to justify that the Age of Stars is a good ending when we have never seen any benevolence from this character. All that I have seen is a scheming character who wants to restore the previous age of the Eternal Cities, an age of the malevolent stars and of horrible experiments. The Raya Lucaria Academy/ Carians are never benevolent, they hunted the Albinaurics like animals through their military arm (Knights of the Cuckoo). And the worst part is that it was the Eternal Cities who created the Albinaurics. So basically the former Age of Stars adherents (Eternal Cities) created the Albinaurics for the latter Age of Stars adherents (Adacemy) to hunt and torture. Luckily the Age of Stars will not be the canon ending, even with the moaning of countless simps.

I'm gonna make a mod that adds a new ending. The burn the witch ending, you can use the miniature ranni to use Ranni to burn the erd tree then you can marry Melina instead

So Ranni is actually against physical intimacy. Her dialogue not only suggests this but it's clear that the golden order was much more promiscuous, likely took some inspiration from the ancient Greeks as inspiration. We can see this in Marika as she doesn't wear much clothing. Not to mention that one must travel through Marika's bed chambers to reach the elden throne. Ranni on the other hand keeps herself modest and far more conservative in her attire, suggesting that she doesn't seek to engage in such a promiscuous culture.

She is particularly irksome because she, along with her fandom, represents everything I loathe at a fundamental level : pseudo-intelligence masquerading as something profound.

Order at its most basic level, is a creative endeavor. Creating something in the real world that is rigorous enough to account for all or most potential scenarios, be it something tangible like a plumbing system for a house, or something more abstract, like a data workflow system covering many countries, involves painstaking effort and an unimaginable amount of sweat and blood. It is precisely because any "clean" or "ordered" configuration is unnatural that it is so difficult to do so. Its like swimming upstream. Creative spirit is the lifeblood of any order and it is what has enabled human civilization to rise to such great heights. Destruction, by contrast, is much easier. After all, isn't it the natural way for any "construct" to decay and degenerate over time? All destructive forces have to do, is speed this along. They are swimming downstream.

All this lady has done since the starting of the story itself is indulge in destructive behavior. Her undermining of the two fingers and her heritage, her masterminding of the attack on Godwyn and probably many others in the Night of the Black Knives (the narration strongly implies this by stating that Godwyn was the first to perish on the night) which would have greatly destabilized the land and eventually lead to the loss of countless lives (even without the shattering, this is a no-brainer), her unrealized plot with Rykard to take down Maliketh, her quest to slay her two fingers, and finally, if the player allows it, her removal of the Elden Ring itself all indicate this. She may have had other motivations, but going by what's presented in-game, it was nothing other than "uhhhhhhhh distrust authority....free will....". Hilariously, this may even not be the case; she may be completely subservient to the Dark Moon (an alien entity) and seek to bring about its rule on the Lands Between. Which if true, would make her yet another power-hungry, selfish royal.

If not, it doesn't change the fact that at her core, she and her quest offer no real solution. Free will is no solution, lol. In what universe is mere free will enough to run an entire civilization, let alone create it? People speak, rightfully, about her ending's sheer ineffectiveness at dealing with the huge problems still present in the Lands Between (the deathroot, the Frenzied Flame, Scarlet Rot etc.), but before even getting to that point, what is she offering as a betterment to the daily lives of most people that the Golden Order at its pinnacle didn't? To answer that question, in her own words - "I would abandon this soil, with mine own order". Which fits with her character's trend as a destructive person. In the game, (and real life tbh), its easy to say "this is useless" or 'that is not good enough". Its easy to criticize, throw tantrums and tear down that which others have built with their very lives. Its a different matter entirely to look at it, and see how to add real value to it. To help nurture it or better still, enhance it so that it becomes even more effective. She doesn't answer this question, because she has never nurtured or created anything, only undermined, destabilized and destroyed.

Speaking of the Golden Order, people rightfully criticize its mistreatment and persecution of certain groups (Omens, Misbegotten, Wandering Merchants). However, on earth, which great civilization didn't? All the great ancient civilizations, the Egyptians, the Greeks, Romans, Indians, Chinese etc. have both marginalized and outright persecuted many groups, both inside and outside their borders. Would your solution be to destroy them all and let people do whatever they want in the name of free will? Or would it be to improve them and their institutions, slowly, over centuries, millenia, forever even, so that society slowly inches its way to the unattainable goal of actual perfection? I know what I would want.

Ranni had her destiny laid out. She could have succeeded Marika and taken real accountability by improving the Golden Order. We know from Rogier and Kenneth that at its root, the order was pliable enough to accomodate practices and values that even contradicted it in the past. She could have strengthened the Carian connection with the Erdtree, bringing even greater stability to the regions. She could have used the enormous resources of the empire to fix its problems, one by one. As vessel of the Elden Ring, with all the holy and magic knowledge at her disposal as a result of her parents' lineages, what couldn't she accomplish?

But she didn't. And it is extremely irksome that her pseudo-intelligent solution of "fReE wiLL" is preferable to actual rigorous accountability and effort.

                                                                • Anonymous

Her ending is the best to me actually, we open a new age though we don’t know whether it’s bad or good but at least, we pursuit the new and get rid of the old. Don’t know why brainless peoples blaming on this character so much. B/tch please! This is Lands Between, whenever a conflict happen, don’t tell me you expect them to sit down and talk? Even on Earth is not that peaceful, there are several wars happening right now all around the world. So of course the demigods will go into a war, fight and kill eachother for their own goals, Ranni is no different. With or without Ranni, the Lands Between will just ****ed up sooner or later, her presence only speeds the matter because obviously Marika have plotted this for so long, not only because of Godwyn’s death did she do this. These dudes are blaming a character without even know what is going on in the game pfff. Everyone has the right to do things according to their will.

Simps: Loves her because she overthrows authority, and FREEDOM!

Well, what freedom can mortals get when God of Rot, Formless Mother, Flame of Frenzy, Primeval Current, and all other outer gods are still lurking and watching?
Not to mention the twin moons. Ranni may highy likely be a puppet of the Dark Moon, who choose Ranni for its grand scheme against lands between.

                                                                      • Anonymous

The people who say Ranni disposes of Blaidd and Iji confuse me. Why would she send Black Knife Assassins after them after she literally just tells you "Tell Blaidd and Iji... I love them."

My guess is that her actions in her quest she clashed with or straight-up thwarted whatever the agenda of the Black Knives was, so they attacked Blaidd and Iji out of revenge. The only person I can see her actually disposing of is Seluvis because there's no way in hell she doesn't know he's a slimeball.

Ranni isn't exactly a good person, but I highly doubt she'd be so callous to her two childhood friends. (something Iji himself explicitly tells you while doing her quest)

                                                                        • Anonymous

Every one on this page is either a simp, lusting for ranni, or a die hard hater. I am neither and I will tell the truth as it is, ranni is not a good person are probably not much better then Mohg or rykard, but she is not source of all the problems, the biggest thing is she made the ones who live in death. And her ending is, a mix bag as it allows people to have free will but it’s completely removing all this influences that people had for years and suddenly removing that has a high chance of anarchy( not to mention that even with out all the outer gods there is still the death root problem that she caused that she doesn’t even bother fixing). Not to mention that the dark moon and stars in general have given us enough evidence that proves that maybe radahn was on to something in stopping the stars, more so do to the fact that astel was originally going to crash land after the radahn fight. Of course there is not all negative to ranni of course, the golden order has done very questionable things and ranni new order( or well, no order) does have a chance of being better then this one. Though again this is also the same thing rykard and Mohg wants, they all view there order better then the current one and ignore the obvious flaws in there own. So in the end I think ranni is not a good person at all, like at all. But she is not as bad as others are saying.

                                                                          • Anonymous

The people who say “Ranni didn’t care about the consequences, and she just wanted to follow her dreams” are stupid. She saw an imperfect world, and she had a solution to fix it. It’s incredibly similar to the reasoning behind Goldmask’s ending.

                                                                            • Anonymous

I think this ending is the most ambiguous and mysterious in terms of understanding what actually happens. There is nothing that says what actually happens to the lands between, unlike every other ending. I think FromSoftware made this ending hard to understand on purpose, but I think it’s up to everybody to decide what they are going to do with free will.

                                                                              • Anonymous

"Here beginneth the chill night that encompasses all, reaching the great beyond. Into fear, doubt, and loneliness... As the path stretcheth into darkness."
"fear, doubt, and loneliness" In ranni's opinion, now that the Lands Between will no longer be dominated by Greater Will, the war for the power of the Great Rune has come to an end. People will now have to walk on their own two feet, there will be no gods to protect them, which means "fear, doubt, and loneliness" but it will help people develope rather than letting selfish gods compete for their own power. such as Greater Will turning Marika into a puppet to rule the Lands Between, and Marika removing the Rune of Death to make herself the Eternal Queen, and the demigods killing each other for the Great Rune despite being cousins. Ranni's ending leaves humans and the Lands Between free to decide their own fate. and she lived happily for a thousand years with Tarnish on the moon.
The ending frenzied flame is a negative one. If you see this world just revolving around killing each other and competing for power of the Demigods, or a world controlled and dominated by Greater Will, a supernatural force of unknown origin in outer space. A meaningless world. You can burn everything, no more Demigods, Greater Will, and hope that from the ashes, something will be born, the world will revive and become better.
p/s: Ranni's killing of Godwyn, in my opinion, may be because Ranni will sooner or later have to marry Godwyn to take Marika's place to rule the Lands Between (Greater Will wants to remove Marika from her position because she dared to oppose him when eliminating Rune of Death, changing the world order and claiming the Lands Between for herself), because she is an Empyrean. Ranni did not want to become Greater Will's puppet, so she killed Godwyn to free her fate.

                                                                                • Anonymous

This is text from an interview with the translation team. Since this wiki seems to want to keep pushing the mistranslation lie in the trivia section people deserve to see the truth.

"One of the big challenges of translating From games is nailing the tone. "[Miyazaki's] original texts are like scripture, and then it's filtered through me because I have to interpret it," Morris said. "We ask hundreds of questions, but some of the more subtle things, like levels of absurdism, are a little bit too abstract to really discuss. We usually ask a lot of factual stuff, like 'what's going on? And why? What's the relation here? And what's the background here?' so we know what language can be used and what can be left out while still mapping to the facts."

Localising a From Software game follows roughly like this: Frognation is sent the Japanese text, which they then translate, with the help of Q&A sessions with the FromSoftware team. Usually a batch of received text will be for one particular character, and while it's usually the complete chunk of text relating to that character, sometimes this text will grow, in some cases even double.

Once the dialogue is translated, Morris and Miyazaki go to London to work with the voice actors in-person, though that changed a bit with Elden Ring due to the Covid-19 pandemic (about "50/50" was in person, according to Morris).

We have early conversations where we kind of get an overall feeling of what's happening in the game," Morris says. "But after that point, we have to alert [Miyazaki] to things that we don't know. There's not a big augmenting handbook that will give us a bunch of context that he takes the time to write – he's really too busy for that. So we do the text, the scripture that we run off first, and then we have to consult him to find out what the context is so that we don't make errors. Errors are inevitable, if you don't have context, and text alone is not enough to translate correctly."

On the particular difficulty of translating From games, Morris points to the lack of concrete forebears as a big obstacle. "Derivative is a loaded term," he says, "but with a lot of stuff, it's playing by a book. You have pop culture context that will immediately tell you what something means because it's supposed to be immediately understood: it's not supposed to be a mystery." FromSoftware games aren't like that.

But FromSoftware still gives a final okay. The fact that the Elden Ring player character in English is The Tarnished, rather than the more literal translation of asebito, which is "faded person", is not an example of translation changing meaning: that was the closest parallel agreed upon by Frognation and Miyazaki himself."

There's an actual source of how the project works, instead of some YouTuber getting the text translated without being able to consult the actual writers context. It wasn't a mistranslation this is how the story was agreed upon.

All three think that their Order is the best for the world, but ranni is smart enough to manipulate the tarnished to do all the dirty Work for her, while the other two geht killed by him. In the end, she is Just another selfish demigod, who would do anything for Power.

                                                                                                • Anonymous

The whole point of Ranni's quest is that she's trying to destroy the Greater Will's influence on the lands between, freeing EVERYBODY from its control. That's objectively a better ending than burning the world down.

                                                                                                  • Anonymous

The same mfs who misspell the name of a boss that repeats it every time you kill her claiming they understand what a "voyage to the moon" entails. Ranni's ending, above all, is defined by the mystery and uncertainty that surrounds it. Yes, it is dangerous. No, she isn't evil for wanting the world to take this path. She never forces you to work with her, in fact she tries to dissuade you from it. And the regime she opposes has led the world to a state of stagnation and tyranny. You gotta be seriously illiterate (and, while we're at it, most people who dislike her also seem misogynistic) to glean from this that Ranni is a bad guy. She's selfish, bratty and full of herself. But what did you expect? She's literally a Lunar Princess. That doesn't mean she's bad to bone, nor that her intentions are. Honestly, I think most people who hate her can't stand that she's a woman who not just considers herself your superior - much more than that, she obviously IS your superior. Which is even more ironic because the only ending in Elden Ring, a game with only matriarchal societies across all species contained in it, where you don't bend the knee to a megalomaniacal empress is the one where you burn the world like a complete madman, which is definitely sigma I guess.

                                                                                                    • Anonymous

Ranni doesn't deserve to be have any order or be a lord of anything, she deserves punishment even more so than Marika. I killed her with Eclipse Shotel, then threw that little doll into the Lake of Rot where she belongs for all eternity.

I cannot tell if "dear consort" is meant in a romantic sense or more of a "my dear friend/ally" kind of way.

D was right, whatever threatens the sanctity of the Golden Order must be destroyed. I will not be a slave to a treasonous and murderous witch. I will restore the Golden Order and again bring order to the lands between. GLORY TO THE GOLDEN ORDER.... GLORY TO LYNDELL.

Throughout her entire questline, she didn't do much besides sitting on a chair, trying to be mysterious, taking naps, and turning into a doll.

                                                                                                                  • Anonymous

She kicks me in the ribs until I can hardly breathe. Then she starts to cry and apologizes, begging me to forgive her. She holds me all night as I gently cry into her robes. Please help is there any hope for me

At least in some endings, like Goldmask or the "standard one" you actually try to do something for the Lands Between.

                                                                                                                            • Anonymous

She offers no solution. I think people are drawn in by the aesthetic, which isnt even her. Side with her, and the lands between become a playground for the soulless.

                                                                                                                              • Anonymous

She is just a charactor with plans and purpose you can sympathy with. At least she pulled Lands Between from the stalemate and allow it to have a better future in the long term. Not so much can be certain in the other endings

Let's just leave this world behind and head into the uncertain void of the stars where we totally won't be torn to bits by eldritch gods that were already trying to invade and dominate our world. I'm Ranni, and I definitely know what I'm doing because I'm one of the only female characters in this game, therefore I'm waifu and good :D

What exactly is the trigger for missing the first meeting with Ranni where she introduces herself as Renna and gives you the spirit calling bell? Is it leaving Limgrave? Can it be triggered by going to Weeping Peninsula? Can it be triggered by entering Stormveil Castle? Is it a time limit? (I doubt this one because that normally is not a mechanic in souls games). Is it a Limgrave progression % flag? I know that going to Caelid will trigger her to no longer meet you at the Church of Elleh, but are there any other/earlier flags for this to occur? I want to meet her at the Church of Elleh as late in progressing Limgrave as possible for autism reasons.

                                                                                                                                          Please reply.

Instead of enacting justice, she broke the Elden Ring and tells her own offspring to go kill each other. Ranni in a puppet body, hiding in her childhood home, and her original body on top of one of the Divine Towers should at least brought suspicion. Would think someone as powerful as Marika would have the authority and resources to be able to do so.
