Reapers are a type of Weapon in Elden Ring. Reapers have long reach and a unique sweeping moveset. These weapons are particularly useful for sneaking damage behind shields, when swung with proper spacing.
Reapers can be modified by a number of Ashes of War to change their Skills or Damage Type, so play around with them and see what you like as you acquire more.
Reapers have innate blood-loss buildup and the Sickle like anti-block modifier: light attacks ignore 40% damage negation from blocks; heavy and charged attacks ignore more.
Note: Patch 1.08 The speed of some attacks has been increased and the recovery time has been reduced.
Note: Patch 1.14 Increased the attack speed of the uncharged version of the first heavy attack.
Shadow of the Erdtree, the expansion for Elden Ring, adds only 1 more weapon to this category, called Obsidian Lamina.

Grave Scythe is STRANGELY high heavy AND high keen at the same time. All infusible weapons are EITHER high heavy + low keen, or low heavy + high keen, but this one is high for both.
- Anonymous
Grave Scythe makes every other scythe irrelevant. Its better on every infusion and every build (even an arcane build, you are losing out on ar for the bleed build up you get).
And not only does it make every other scythe irrelevant, it makes scythes a strength weapon class because its best infusion is strength. Why? Scythes have never been strength weapons

I think we really need more Reapers. This Weapon-class has so much wasted potential.I think Reapers arent getting the love they deserve.
- Anonymous
I feel like Reapers are having an identity crisis in each Fromsoft title. Most weapon classes feel relatively similar across games, like Straight Swords, yet you have Reapers which are always radically different. In DS1 they are a part of the Halberd class, while in DS2 they got promoted to their own class. Then in DS3 they feel nothing like DS2, and then ER feels like neither as well. If you want to count Burial Blade's tricked form, I guess it feels the most like ER's as the attacks feel slower, but still it feels like a different class each game. And to top it all off, Reapers used to feel way slower in ER but got so many speed increases that it doesn't even feel like the same class as launch version.

Scythe is actually meta rn idk what the guy below me is saying lol
has superarmor (cannot be broken no matter what) against small weapons, fast long range attacks with variety of swings coming from r1, r2 and crouch r1. On top of that it also pierces shields, has true combo off of jumping r2, and they all have innate bleed.
Coming from someone who mained scythe since before the dlc buff- scythes are doing great right now

For all of you complaining about this weapon, it can massacre shielded and mounted enemies if you attach Bloodhound's Step to it. Personally, I carry a lightning scythe with Bloodhound's step alongside, it only failed my when a tree crucible knight did the shoulder thingie, and that was my fault.
- Anonymous
I struggle to see the point of this weapon class beyond aesthetics. Shorter than other polearms, slower, no thrusts whatsoever. Low attack speed makes inherent bleed virtually irrelevant. Decent AR, and yet the damage never seems to impress. Strictly limited to slash damage. 2h moveset is not terrible, but not great; 1h moveset is horrendous and powerstance is somehow even worse. Good luck ever dealing damage to another player while wielding two scythes. Unimaginably slow and predictable, but without the power of great or colossal weapons on the off-chance you actually hit.

I have tried this weapon on 1.14 at RL 60, 80, 100, 135, and 200. It is really low damage and low bleed buildup compared to other weapons in the class. I believe the expectation was to combine this weapon with sacred bloody flesh to get it to see respectable numbers, but imo it really needs a buff to its arcane scaling to help with the low damage and blood loss. Reapers as a whole also have really low guard boost for some reason, and this has the lowest which makes using deflect tear difficult.
1.14 changes to the ash were very good, but it still needs a buff to arcane scaling to help with physical damage and blood loss. More guard boost would be nice as well.

I know weapons in Souls games are all about how weapons FEEL to use for you over which weapons are objectively "best," but scythes have never felt good to me personally outside a few moves here and there. Love the crouching/rolling attack, a quick horizontal slash. Love the running attacks. I like the jumping light OK, but the heavy one feels weird. All the other moves feel bad to use, the R1 chain and the heavies most of all. Combine that with low poise and stance damage and you're left whacking enemies with a weird-looking bleedstick with decent range and weirdly slow-feeling attacks. Again, not an objective assessment, just how I feel about these weapons as of ER. I would feel better using them if even just the R1 chain looked a little less clunky.

Man, these are awful compared to ds3. Terrible range and slow, damage isn't too great either. Only saving grace is we finally got a nice crit animation
Reapers provide a good balance of speed and range. Best utilized on a high-mobility play style with uses of running, jumping, and rolling attacks as they are all fast and many offer horizontal range. Does not deliver high DPS compared to faster or harder hitting weapons. Passive bleed may provide an added bonus. What is lacking in raw damage can be made up for in speed and range. Best used in conjunction with a staff or seal in your off-hand utilizing a ranged attack and using the scythe defensively.
- Anonymous
The basic moveset feels wrong. It's slow and weird for a medium size weapon. A greatsword is faster, has the same reach and they have more damage than reapers.
I honestly think a colossal sword is just as fast as a reaper.
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
What's with the weird hang time these have on the light attacks? You raises them up, then pause...then bring them down. Then on top of that, you hold them close to you which reduces range by a lot. Dark Souls 3's moveset blows these out of the water
- Anonymous
When Elden Ring came out 2 years ago, I made int build just for the sake of searching for moonlight greatsword before any information about where it is or how it performs. And even tho far from perfect I was happy with the weapon and the sword spells combos I paired it with
This time my goal was to find any unique new scythe and make a build around it. And you got one after beating whole DLC. And I'm really disappointed, standard moveset and another iframe abuse skill that shares the dodge animation with bloody helice. Really disappointed.
This weapon has a glitch, if you use any slash ash of war on an infusable scythe and then switch to obsidian lamina the second input of the ash of war (the heavy attack) will become the second input of spinning slash and will not change until the game reloads via charge screen
- Anonymous
Kinda wild that there's conclusively no unique INT scythe in a game where INT = necromancy

Great job from Software you made this game in 2022 and you made the DLC in 2024 and we only got ONE scythe you had so much time BUT INSTEAD YOU JUST MADE ONE! you had sooooo much cool opportunities to make new scythes you could’ve made a Ghostflame scythe or a scythe that puts creatures to sleep and much more instead, you just made us disappointed I hate everyone thats a game developer!
- Anonymous
wow, 2 years of developing and just one scythe and it has same moveset with regular scythe... congratulations.
- Anonymous
Still to this day find it odd that they that gravity scythe you see a few enemies wielding.

The best thing they could do for scythes in the DLC is add one with the DS3 moveset. That was way too good to throw out after one game
- Anonymous
Imagine if the DLC had war scythes that were actually used in medieval warfare. That would be really cool.
- Anonymous
One minor benefit of reapers is that they might have the best mounted moveset in the game. Not that that matters a whole lot, but other similarly sized weapons either have a narrow hitbox like Greatspears, swing much closer to the body like Greatswords or have a slow, braced swing animation like Halberds. Reapers however use these huge wide one-handed swings that actually use the the weapon's full length unlike the normal moveset and are way faster than they probably should be.

Imagine a scythe with DS1 running attack, deathblight, ghostflame and madness buildups with 170 crit and S scaling across the board.
The f is wrong with you people. You want a new scythe to become a cancer meta crutch thing? Just give us something that could copete with burial blade and friede scythe for the coolest weapon ever title without being unnecessary overpowered.

I think a very simple change to make scythes more powerful and unique while not OP is to increase their crit boost. All scythes should get 110 crit boost with the exception of the winged scythe getting 120. This gives the scythes a bit more personality as well as making the winged scythe a lot better as it could finally play off of its poise breaking ash of war and be a very viable choice for dual scythe setups.

with EIGHT (8) new weapon categories inbound in the DLC, I highly suspect Great Reapers / Great Scythes will be one of them. The Great Scythe has been a mainstay of Souls, but has always been called "Great" Scythe - then there was Great Corvian Scythe, Pontiff Knight Great Scythe, and Friede's Great Scythe, literally all reapers in DS3 had "Great". So the omission of "Great" in the names of all scythes here is auspicious.

I dont know about you guys, but reapers critical hit look super painful to me, and i like it
- Anonymous
I feel like we need more unique scythes or a sweet spot mechanic that does the same damage, but it does pierce instead of slash. The sweet spot placement would be unique on some reapers due to the halo scythe’s (and maybe some DLC scythes’) quirky shape
- Anonymous
With no sweetspot mechanic or unique default ability like Neck Swipe, reapers lack a lot of identity outside of their looks and anti-shield capabilities. A very butchered weapon class with 2 of its 4 unlocks being rare drops. But I'd be lying if I said I didn't love them conceptually, really hoping for some cool ones in the DLC.

Dual wielding moveset is surprisingly versatile. When I put 2 scythes I thought it looks stupid, but the animations are actually very good, probably my favourite powerstance weapons, next to greatswords.
Also, scythes are not dead. They poise through small weapons and are quick and long enough to compete with bigger things. I just wish their weapon skills were more interesting.
- Anonymous
Reminder that Death Sorcery exists, and by that logic we totally could get an Int scythe. Pray for the DLC, because it SHOULD have a focus on sleep and death

All I want is my DS3 Corvian Scythe back. Thing looked & felt f***ing wicked. Scythe deserve more love.

Scythes are very enjoyable and of average strength. However, the number of scythes is very few, which reduces the diversity. While there are many different weapons from each category in the game, there are only 4 scythes. And the damage scaling on these 4 scythes is ridiculous. With STR build, you do not feel that you have reached full power in any build, except the Grave Scythe. I have 350 hours in the game and have played all the scythes in PVE and PVP. I don't know how you missed it when it was a game with scaling very suitable for scythe like INT/FTH and DEX/INT. I hope scythes are given more importance in the DLC and we may see a few new scythes.

I feel bad for reaper users with this dismal weapon selection, yet somehow spite towards them for their great movesets, damage output and very cool abilities.
- Anonymous
I’ve begun to feel cheesed by reapers lately. They often triple true combo and I suspect it may have to do with headshot stagger or they simply gave them too much stun. I believe they were buffed recently too, so it may be the new speed buff but with the old stagger time causing stun lock combos. Thank God sweats will never appreciate this information.

Anyone else run around with the raven cloak + bone mask hood wand the leather boots and gloves with the scythe and do sneak criticals?
- Anonymous
For anyone who wants to use scythes in pvp these weapons R1's and R2's are kinda slow but it doesn't care about poise unless they are past 125 poise which is rather rare. First these weapons are better two handed their power stance moveset isn't great for being aggressive and often you get hit out of power stance attacks since they don't hit at the same time, the jump attack is one of the best in the game however so if you want to build around that it's not a horrible idea.
So when two handed or one handed your crouch/roll lights are your best friend they hit fast, very fast so while fighting spam that crouch attack you can even roll catch with them like with colossal swords but you have to take a step forward immediately after you land the 1st hit a lot of the time.
Their Jump heavies have good range around you so jumping to the left or right of people when using them can catch them while staying relatively out of their weapons range. As for the running attacks they go far and are probably going to be the 2nd most used attack since again their neutral R1's and R2's are just really slow. However their R2's are decent at catching players that roll into you since they are slow so use those defensively.

Anyone know why they shadow nerfed reapers? They didn't even stand out. Had super slow L1s, and now R1s. Can't find an answer
As of patch 1.07, Reapers have the slowest R1 in the game. It is the only weapon class that cannot combo with storm stomp.

For all the super rare weapon drops in this game, why can't the avian marionettes drop their scythes? It's not like reapers couldn't benefit from a little more variety.

For a mostly defensive weapon in pvp these sure don't have the speed to pull it off. Range is ok and the recent poise damage at 125 for even lights are great but they don't have the speed they should have to be viable, you just get outspaced with harder hitting builds who hit slightly faster or have a little more range with attacks and a lot of times it's both.
Since these got more chip damage along with “Shotel” weapons are these worth using against fingerprint users or should I just stick to vulgar militia shotel?

One thing I haven't liked about Reapers is that their charge R2 are too slow in comparison with weapons like Greatswords and Curvedgreatswords, specially the Scythe R2 that is. I hope From Software can improve it later on.
