Remembrance of the Black Blade is a Consumable Item in Elden Ring. Most Consumables grant various effects such as restorative properties for recovering HP, removing certain negative status effects or applying temporary buffs and debuffs, while others can be thrown at enemies to deal damage.

Remembrance of Maliketh, the Black Blade, hewn into the Erdtree.

The power of its namesake can be unlocked by the Finger Reader.
Alternatively, it can be used to gain a great bounty of runes.

Maliketh was a shadowbound beast given to his Empyrean.
Marika's sole need of her shadow was a vessel to lock away Destined Death.
Even then, she betrayed him.

Maliketh was tailored for Marika by the Two Fingers. He was created for the purpose of confining Destined Death so that the Golden Order could be preserved. It is his very nature to act as its vessel. He would sooner die than part with Death. And he would give it to nobody, not even to the Tarnished who aided his search for it (possibly not even to Marika). He wanted the Golden Order restored, but the only problem was that Marika didn't. Marika knew that the Golden Order was flawed; the Accursed Blood (Morgott and Mohg), the Nascence (Miquella), the Rot (Malenia), the Flame (Melina), the horrible fate of Godwyn and his lineage. The very order that she created has done no good for her or the Lands Between. She would put an end to it so that something new, something better would come to be. Unfortunately, this would mean betraying her very shadow. It would mean betraying herself. The Golden Order would remain as long as Destined Death was contained and Radagon (Her loyalty to the Golden Order) was still alive. She knew what must be done. Maliketh never knew why the Elden Ring was shattered. But one thing of which he was certain: only she could have done it.

-What do you think? Was Marika's betrayal justified if it meant putting an end to the Golden Order?

Maliketh was a real one, ironic that he probably would have been a better ruler than Marika herself. At least he's finally free from his servitude.

"Marika's sole need of her shadow was a vessel to lock away Destined Death. Even then, she betrayed him", wow yet another reason why Marika is a complete *******.

"Marika's sole need of her shadow was a vessel to lock away Destined Death". So Maliketh and Marika used to be Blaidd and Ranni. Likewise, both Marika and Ranni abandoned them, pain.

In other words, she went against the only purpose she gave Maliketh to begin with; implying Marika was involved in the theft of the Destined Death or its fragment, likely working with Ranni on the plot. Possibly when she realized she no longer wants to be eternally "cursed" with servitude to Greater Will, as Marika's Soreseal/Scarseal implies her duty felt.

It’s actually pretty neat how Maliketh is Marika’s equivalent of Blaidd to Ranni. Shadowbound Half-Wolf given to an Empyrean as a companion/watchdog, only to be betrayed and imprisoned when they were no longer needed.
