Incarnate a full moon and launch it at foes
![]() |
Rennala's Full Moon is a Sorcery in Elden Ring. Rennala's Full Moon spell creates a moon projectile that dispells sorceries it hits and temporarily reduces enemies magic damage negation. Updated to Patch 1.07.
Sorcery associated with the Carian queen.
Uses the caster as a vessel to incarnate a full moon, then sends it floating toward foes. The full moon dispels all sorcery that touches it, and temporarily reduces magic damage negation for those it strikes.
Queen Rennala encountered this enchanting moon when she was young, and later, it would bewitch the academy.

Where to find Rennala's Full Moon:
-
Obtained when unlocking the Remembrance of The Full Moon Queen's power by handing it over to Enia at Roundtable Hold.
Elden Ring Rennala's Full Moon Guide
- Full Moon Sorcery
- Stamina Cost: 32
- Deals magic damage
- The Carian Regal Scepter can boost this Sorcery
- Players can use Rennala's Full Moon to incarnate a full moon and launch it at foes. It dispels all sorcery that touches it, and temporarily reduces magic damage negation for those it strikes. The reduced magic damage negation on struck foes lasts for one minute and reduces the target's magic negation by 20% (10% in PVP).
- Reducing magic negation by 10% does not mean a target will take 10% more damage. This merely reduces the resistance of a target so increased damage will depend on how much resistance the target has to begin with.
- This is a Power Shred Debuff and will not stack with other debuffs of the same type.
- See Buffs and Debuffs for more information on stacking debuffs.
- NOTE: Since Patch 1.07 FP Consumption has been Decreased from 55 to 47.

This spell does more damage than Ranni's Dark Moon. If you already have a nice frostbite build-up source (like cold weapons), it's better to use this one instead of Ranni's.

Anon 27 oct 2022 22:10… sorceries in general need a lot of h6perarmor, it’s NOT FAIR THAT FAITH INCANTATIONS HAVE SO MANY GOOD ONE SHOOT PVP STUFF THAT HAVE A LOT, A LOT, A LOT OF HYPERARMOR ! ! !
- Anonymous
For anyone who's tested it, does the Full Moon have tracking, or does it only go in the direction you cast it?
- Anonymous
The one thing I don’t get about this is how the moon won’t counter any magic until it fires and how you get seemingly no hyperarmor which means you can get hit by a glintstone pebble and get knocked flat on your back even though you’re already inside the moon
- Anonymous
a pretty useful spell if you've already committed to the high int cost, good for opening up a fight. enemies seem to be debuffed by this even if they deflect it (radagon parrying ranged attacks will still get debuffed, for example). you can dodge a lot of stomps and low sweeps as this lifts your character off the ground, but requires some prediction since it is a little slow. has virtually no armor upon cast and it doesn't absorb other forms of magic until the moon is actually fired, so even if youre curled up inside the moon you can still get sniped out of it until its shot (denoted by a sound effect). the range is very very long and it speeds up over distances, and bosses that dodge magic will dodge the cast but not the projectile, making it safe at range. the damage isnt calculated until the projectile hits so you can cast -> drink flask/buff and it will benefit from the damage boost still. easily does 1k+ on targets like malenia at rl150 w/ +10 carian staff and 70 int. which is great value for a more supportive spell
- Anonymous
This spell can absorb radagon's projectile attacks. This only happens after the spell is fully cast and your descending to the ground. I accidently found this out when I absorbed a light spear he threw while I was casting.
- Anonymous
It's supposed to be an endgame spell but it's garbage. Huge fp cost and requirements, slow projectile for mediocre damage.
- Anonymous
The Moon sorceries cancel out things you wouldn't expect in PvE. For example, it stops Astel's beam and Glintstone Dragon ranged attacks. This might also apply to Eternal Darkness, but I need to test it.

Imagine portal sorcery that sucks in enemy in portal and teleports him to moon

this spell has no hyperarmor but a surprising number of enemies will just stand there and stare while you cast this in their face for some reason? i've cast this on accident in the middle of crowds and gotten away scot free. my guess is because it's you're in the air

I don't know why they put that extra note about negation. A target's negation being reduced by 10% literally does mean they'll take 10% more damage. Negation buffs/debuffs are multiplicative in this game. A 10% reduction on an enemy with 50% negation means their new negation is 45%, which makes them take 10% more damage than they were taking before
- Anonymous
full moon will cancel out enemy spells if it hits them. kinda really situational, but good knowledge that you can win some trades against mages just because you cast this and not having to do blackhole + something else
- Anonymous
I find it interesting that both the Full Moon and Miquella have the power to bewitch people.
- Anonymous
A neat perk of this is you can dodge Godfrey's shockwave when casting this.

Vessel?
Incarnate??
Encounter???
Full Moon sound like an outer God.

Just tested this compared to comet with 70 int on carian staff on the big bois in subterranean depths (outside underground roadside grace) and comet does more damage for less fp and time. Its a super cool looking spell, but for 70 int hoping itd be stronger

I always feel bad for punishing this move with ancient lightning spear, it’s such a beautiful spell

They should've buffed it's raw damage, as oppose to a minor casting speed buff. Still slow, still risky, still way too high of a requirement.
Still a beautiful spell and I won't stop using it. 8)
1.04 boosted the cast time by 10%. Definitely a little more viable but still quite the risk to use in combat and still shines as an opener.

No one gonna mention the frostbite debuffs all damage types if it hits?
- Anonymous
Slow cast time, but deceptively fast projectile and hits like a truck. Good in PVP when you have some distance or when paired with the skull endure, but otherwise you will get interrupted before you finish the cast.
- Anonymous
Mage players launching whole moons and throwing asteroids and summoning dragons while Melee players simply bonking stuff
- Anonymous
I'll just say I absolutely did not expect this sorcery to hit as often in PvP as it does, people really panic and don't know how to dodge this.
- Anonymous
Ok, this spell is great for PvE. Good damage and debuffs too.
But hear me out. I tried it out on a pure sorcerer with 75 ints on a PvP session (used this spell for memes honestly), and it does surprisingly well. I won't say it hits a lot of times, but you can free aim it when it shoots, so you can just throw the moon on the ground if the opponent is near. Slow cast time yes, but it can be fixed by "defensive" spells such as founding rain and Carian spells. This spell needs to be combined with other spells for it to work, but the trade-off is worth it IMO. If it hits it does 1000+ damage in my build (Using Carian regal scepter) It can shoot low hp players that do not invest much on vig/low magic defense. Even if it does not hit, if the opponent doesn't do a perfect roll they'll get their magic def lowered.
Finally, the best strength in using this spell for this spell is they won't expect it. Let's be honest you rarely see anyone use this spell. You can surprise your opponent, and I'm sure many PvP-ers won't expect it. You can use it to your advantage.
Overall, the damage is good, worth it for the slow cast time. This spell is fine IMO. If fromsoft wants to buff the casting time I'm okay with that, but overall I think the spell is fine.

Although the start up animation of this spell is beautiful, it is also slow. This spell is therefore best used at medium to long range so that your cast does not get interrupted. This lunar projectile accelerates as it travels through the air, has decent range, good tracking, medium AOE and massive damage. It also applies a magic resistance debuff. I think you get a lot for your FP here. Great spell for the pure caster.
- Anonymous
the damage is disappointing compared to its FP Cost. It still does huge damage, just not spammable.
In my opinion this spell does not need to get damage buff since you already have other offensive spell
What this spell needs is I frame inside the moon. This makes this spell interesting to use. More playstyle and tricks to use, not just Damage/FP cost. Tricky on PVP and Useful on PVE.

Post 1.03, something doesn't feel right with this spell, I think the magic negation reduction is bugged. 1347 on first cast against a Blackflame Monk, 1235 or for every subsequent cast.
- Anonymous
easy doge all you need to do is walk away from it really bad in pvp good for big targets
- Anonymous
I wish so badly for From to give these full moon spells iframes while you’re inside the moon

I just took the 20k from the remembrance I don't want either of thos

I did not receive it could it but received the staff could it be because I don’t have 70 intelligence

NO, THATS IMPOSSIBLE! IT'S THE MOON!

I feel like you COULD use this spell.... Or you could just... cast Magic Glintblade twice....

After testing I'm fairly sure this spell doesn't have any I-frames. The spell makes you float upwards slightly, your hitbox moves up with it. So attacks will sometimes miss.
Also there is a point into the cast where getting attacked wont stop the projectile from flying out. You have already casted but the "floating back down" animation after you cast just takes a long time.

70 int + Lusat's scepter maxed + determination weapon art and Terra magickus : feels like you throwing a genkidama doing 3400 damage aoe, yeet !
- Anonymous
A little lack lustre given the bonkers high int requirement, fp cost, and animation time. But me n my fancy hat get to curl into a moon ball so it stays.
- Anonymous
I haven't been able to test this, but, while charging the spell in the air, does it deflect spells, just unlocked the spell and am too lazy to find an enemy to test it with

man i wish we got a 70 FTH lightning spear, all but the basic lightning spear deal the same damage and take loads to cast making you vulnerable and fall to the ground because poise is just a word in this game
- Anonymous
Warning: It's glitched/bugged. I got this from the remembrance and forgot about it till later in the game. It's not in my inventory anymore. Possible cause could be recent game updates ****ed up somehow.

I'm curious how the dispel effect interacts with Eternal Darkness. Anyone tested this? Which spell wins?

I have Rennala's full moon and the Carian Regal scepter and level 70 into, but the spell is grayed out... is this because I started with Vanguard class? Why can't I use it?
Same goes for the dragon roar... what gives??

I like this spell. It has long cast time, but damage from it reaches 1500-1600 with Renalla's scepter + the animation is beautiful. And indeed it applies magical defense debuff
- Anonymous
Am I missing something here? What kinda player even gets to 70 int in a playthrough especially at the point you would get this sorc? even with the int buffing armor
- Anonymous
This spell is the tits. At least for me.
Yes, it has long casting time, but a little dexterity will improve it.
Also, this spell is not meant to be used when you're fighting alone.
With 70 INT and Renalla's scepter, I manage to deal 1600 damage usually. On giants, when the spell hit the lava weak spot, I saw 2500. Couldn't replicate that number tho.
And yes, it applies a debuff. I think it reduces magic defense by 40%, but don't quote me on that. I don't do excessive testing, I'm just having fun.
Also, animation is beautiful, and spell itself can be a meme for Avatar: Last Airbender fans

SO wait ,when we receive her remembrance ,we have to choose whether to get the staff or the spell? We can't get both?

move is trash does basically no dmg and costs way to much FP

It does pretty good damage, has decent range (More than Comet but less than Lorettas Greabow) it tracks surprisingly well and has decent AoE. Downside ofcourse is the long cast time but it still look great.
- Anonymous
God both sorceries and incantations are glorious in this game. I just can't decide if I want to be a paladin with light, dark, dragon and fire powers, or if I want to be a sorcerer with control over gravity and the ability to throw the god damn moon at someone.

This was an attack plus debuff spell.
It does 1000-1400 damage to enemies in the first area.
I haven't enhanced the wand, so I think it will do more damage.

Ah I just got the spell. It’s a little disappointing… very long cast time and underwhelming damage… but I think it’s a good way to start the fight.
- Anonymous
i don't have it yet i imagine it's the spell Rennala casts in her boss fight so that is probably what it looks like. for those who haven't seen it she summons a moon above her self that is large but not crazy and it slowly tracks the enemy before getting a sudden speed boost near the end and then makes a massive explosion for tons of damage.

Looks like a debuff rather than an attack sadly. Would be sick to throw a full moon that actually hurt enemies. But what do I know? I don't have the spell. Maybe it does do damage.

Anyone wanna play some Moon Volleyball? I just imagine that casting this will look a lot like a serve.
If you're not doing cold spell build and aren't wearing Snow Witch Hat, Rennala's Full Moon will be a better choice due to higher raw damage (you don't have to care about frostbite because there're so many ways to proc it). But, if you do a cold spell build and you're wearing Snow Witch Hat, just use Ranni's Dark Moon instead because it will hit as hard as Rennala's plus frostbite proc.
