Roar Medallion is a Talisman in Elden Ring. Roar Medallion increases the damage of roars and breath attacks by 15%. Players can use talismans in Elden Ring to boost a variety of Stats.
A bronze medallion depicting a roaring giant.
Enhances roars and breath attacks.
In ancient times, the giants were mortal enemies of the Erdtree.
Their bellowing roars desolated nature, triggered avalanches, and whipped up storms of flame.
Roar Medallion Effect in Elden Ring
Roar Medallion increases the damage of roar, cry, or shriek skill attacks by 15%, as well as the unique moves granted to weapons these skills are used with (see notes section below for more details). Note that it does not work on any Breath skills or incantations, despite the description stating the contrary.
Where to find Roar Medallion in Elden Ring
Dropped by the Stonedigger Troll, located in the Limgrave Tunnels. He is found at the end of the dungeon. [Map link]
Elden Ring Roar Medallion Notes & Tips
- Sell value:
500
- Does not work on Dragon Communion Incantations, Placidusax' Ruin, Aspect of the Crucible: Breath or Firebreather, even though they all involve breathing or roaring both in name and animation, however it does effect Howl of Shabriri.
- Like stated above, the medallion does not affect breath skills or incantations, even though the description suggests otherwise.
- Increases the damage of the Beast's Roar, Troll's Roar and Regal Roar projectiles by 15%, as well as the initial gravitational wave of the Starcaller Cry skill.
- Increases the damage of heavy and charged heavy attacks made under the effect of War Cry, Barbaric Roar, Regal Roar and Shriek of Milos by 15%, as well as the two-handed heavy attacks and charged heavy attacks made under the effect of Braggart's Roar.
- Does not affect heavy jump attacks.
- Stacks with the passive effect from the Highland Axe. The Highland Axe will also give its buff to the main-hand weapon while in the off-hand slot when a cry- or roar-type Ash of War is used with the main-hand weapon, even when two-handing that weapon.
- Stacks with the buffs from the Spiked Cracked Tear and Axe Talisman.

This talisman absolutely DOES buff your jump R2 attacks while under the effect of a roar. I tested it with Braggart's Roar by using a jump R2 against the same enemies both equipped and unequipped several times. As far as I can tell, it'll buff ALL your R2s with these roars active. Amazing.

Does this affect the initial roar of Hoarah Loux's Earthshaker?

I had a dragon communion build and used this all game. What a troll.

The devs should probably remove that "breath" clause from the description, it adds way more confusion than explanation. But remember gamers, when in doubt, test it out. That's what that poor spearman at Gatefront is for.
- Anonymous
if they simply made this not work with dragon communion spells but made them work with all other roar and breath incantations it would balance the unique breaths and incants that are lacking in utility like shabriris howl, aspect of breath, and maybe an exception for greyrolls roar

Why does the description say it would buff breath if it doesn't I just don't get why they did this.

If no other Dragon Communion spells receive a buff from this, I think at least Greyoll’s Roar should.
A good combination I use is the Roar Medallion and the Spear Medallion. Use the Lance and give it the War Cry Ash of War. Use it to trade with your opponents and deal an unholy amount of damage. The Spear Medallion only affects physical damage so it’s best to run primarily physical, but that means it can be hard countered by physical defense buffs. It’s give and take, more damage but a harder counter, or a fire infusion for just more consistent damage overall.

Looking at the Hitboxes for the Dragon Communion spells, they do have a modifier for "Breath Attacks" but there is no special effect that increases Breath Attack damage. So From at one point planned to have these attacks be boosted by the Roar Medallion but it was excluded either for balance concerns or maybe it was just forgotten.

Works on all letters of the alphabet*!!!
*(Except for A,B,C,D,E,G,H,I,J,K,L,M,N,O,P,Q,R,S,T,V,W,X,Y,Z.)

If i had a time machine I'd go back in time and tell the guy who wrote the description of this to change the word breath to shout just so 99% of comments on this page would vanish.

Everyone is mentioning how it doesnt work with dragon breath attacks.... but... have you guys tried to see if the Torch weapon skills are boosted by it..? Thats pretty much a breath attack
what does it even boost then if it's talking about breath attacks. it doesn't boost dragon communion ones so what does it?
- Anonymous
It don't even work with Aspect of crucible: Breath... that talisman is absolute crap
Works really good on early str builds, exceptionally with axe talisman and spiked crystal tear damage buff will be big. However even description is false this talisman SHOUD increase damage of greyoll's roar, howl of shabriri and regal roar

That is so so stupid that it doesn't work with all the dragon breaths. Epic fail Fromsoft!

this talisman is pretty useless when you realize there are far better combinations that wont use it, and especially since they don't buff dragon communion spells. Starcaller Cry is also the only skill that people widely use that gets buffed by this, and you're better off with magic scorpion, shard of alexander, ritual sword and claw/axe talisman for either jump or charged attacks.

Is there a list of all spells, talismans, and abilities that work with the roar medallion? I wish this page was a little more fleshed out. Does it work with the earth shaker weapon art? does it stack with jar shard and red sword talismans? Howl of shabriri?

increases breath attacks!....um but not dragon breath attacks! those are totally different and should never be confused with non dragon breath attacks! this isn't at all confusing!
- Anonymous
I remember when I did my first playthrough and ended up doing dragon incantations and rocked this for so long. Turns out it has nothing to do with incantations. I understand Fromsoftware wanting to be esoteric with their storytelling, but cmon, they need to be straightforward in describing what weapons and talismans do.

Does this thing work on Regal roar charged attacks or initial scream, anyone tested it out?
- Anonymous
The description needs to be changed or clarified in a better way if it does not increase Dragon Communion breath attacks. Or it should be buffed to do so.
- Anonymous
should be "roar and cry" attacks or something, rather than breath... very misleading.

So it doesnt even work with Godfrey's axe... How about his weapon art earthshaker? Probably not but, eh

Description says "Enhances roars and BREATH attacks." But doesn't work on LITERALLY DRAGON BREATH ATTACKS common From you can do better than this

If you stack this, with the highland axe buff, spiked cracked tear, and axe talisman, your charged war cry or barbaric roar heavy attacks get a whopping 56% increase.

I've been trying a roar build since you can get so much good for it so early. Spiked cracked tear, war cry AOW, axe talisman, roar medallion, and highland axe are all in Limgrave, and I've been using the Greatsword from just over the Caelid line. Killed Nerijus in two hits, knocked Patches down with one, killed Alberich in three and he was helpless the whole time. Pretty fun! However, fighting Margit was miserable. When you can't do the charge attacks you have to go right back to the traditional ER colossal weapon play style of jumping like an Italian plumber.

Does anyone know if it improves the poise damage of Troll's Roar?

Tested it on Starcaller Cry (Starscrouge Greatsword) and it does increase damage for the first part.

On stun only roard it should buff the range and hitstun. Highly inconsistant definition.

This doesn’t buff the Steel-Wire Torch’s Firebreather skill.
I’m disappointed.

Which breath attacks does it enhances if not the DRAGON BREATH??? is there any other BREATH in the game? I know there are many roars but BREATHS???????????????

Just for my own clarification, the War Cry heavy attacks also receive the same 15% dmg buff?

Can confirm this doesnt raise the damage of Godfreys Axe WA "Regal Roar", Same damage with and without this talisman. It gets boosted by Shard of Alexander tho.

so from my testing, theres only 6 things this has any effect on:
-war cry: the heavy atttacks that are altered by the WA
-barbaric roar: the heavy atttacks that are altered by the WA
-the shriek of milos: the heavy attacks that are altered by the WA
-beasts roar: the projectile
-starcaller cry: the AoE damage
-trolls roar: the AoE damage
this does not work on:
-any incantations: i had no increase for dragon incantations, and neither for howl of shabriri as one comment here claims. not even the aspect of the crucuble: breath.
-the storm related ashes of war: a comment here claimed their damage increased, but i was not able to replicate that.
-the axe of godfrey: neither the AoE (like starcaller cry) nor the changed heavy attack (like war cry) had an increase in damage. this one actually really bothers me, because it goes against what we saw among the things that actually do work.
this means my conlcusion here would be:
it works on any weapon art where the created blast deals damage; and on the heavy attacks following any weapon art that changes the heavy attack pattern. with the axe of godfrey being the exception to both.

Can confirm this strengthens the special R2s of War Cry, Barbaric Roar, Braggart's Roar and Shriek of Milos. It also boosts the damage of Troll's Roar (not sure about the followup R2), Beast's Roar and Howl of Shabriri. Based on my limited testing of Dragonfire and Greyoll's Roar, it does NOT work on dragon incantations. Need to test whether it empowers the skills of Steel-Wire Torch, Starscourge Greatsword or Axe of Godfrey.
- Anonymous
In my testing this buffs R2 and charged R2 damage by a multiplicative 15% for War Cry and Barbaric Roar. An R2 with War Cry and this talisman active will do therefore do 46% more damage over a baseline, totally unbuffed R2. This if course stacks with the Axe Talisman and Spiked Cracked Tear on charged R2 attacks, which get a total buff of 72%/97%.
Other attacks are NOT buffed, including R1 and jump attacks. Only the modified R2 and charged R2 combos are affected.

are we 100% sure that it not working with dragon breath spells is intentional and not a bug cus i mean they had a ton of weapons that didn;t scale properly recently get fixed
- Anonymous
Damn I thought the whole point of this was to boost dragon breaths that is misleading and disappointing.
I've been wearing this for my entire dragon build playthrough and never thought to check the damage with it off... Probably the most poor and misleading item description in any fromsoft game yet.

Does this work on jump attacks when I use Beast Roar ash of war?

Idea for a build: Two Highlander axes, which strengthen roars, one with War Cry, the other with Beast's Roar, and this medallion. War Cry to increase your damage with your dual-wielded axes, and then punishing with a beefed up Beast's Roar if the enemy tries to escape. Would be a fun barbarian build.

Attacks this improves include all the storm weapon abilities. On a +3 Banished Knight GS the Storm Blade attack went from 166 to 206. I assume this means it improves all "wind" special effect abilities, which includes the beast roar special effect, and roughly can be seen from all war cries. Might improve vacuum slice and storm wall.

By breath attacks I think it means ones like the torch flame breath and not dragon incantations

"Does not work on dragon breath attacks"
You had ONE job Miyazaki!!!
- Anonymous
I not only tested this with the dragon communion attacks that had breath in the name to double check, but I also checked aspects of the crucible: breath and what do you know? It doesn't increase it either lol, kept doing 239 damage for me on the banished knight outside the Cathedral of dragon communion.

Ffs, I feel so embarrassed using this for half a playthrough without testing if it actually improved my Dragon stuff.
faithful canvas talisman enhances my scarlet rot damage more than this talisman, i'm pretty low faith at round 22 + two fingers heirloom

That is bull crap it should enchances the dragon breath attack spells

The issue with testing the dragon's breath attacks is that they are multi-hit attacks+ the chance for crits on weak points. it's hard to tell damage because of that variability. Secondly, the point of testing things like this is to find an answer. don't be a jerk because someone else got something different from you it's part of the process. If their wrong let them know, but realize you could be wrong too.
For my test I used the giant west of the Church of Elleh and Ekzykes's Decay, I timed my attack to hit while the giant stands fully upright for a few seconds after spotting you. This is minimize multi hits.
without the medallion I did exactly 400 dmg
with the medallion it did 400 dmg
I made sure to check the dmg number before scalet rot started dealing dmg
I also noticed that when it critical hitted the giant (the head/eyes of the giant) the attack dealt 401 then immediately after landing 200 more. so that may be the discrepancy some are having with their tests besides the attack multihitting.
Equipment/status:
Dragon Communion seal +5
35 Faith
17 arcane
I'd like to know what everyone else has got testing so feel free to let me know if you've got something different in the replies.
