Channels great red bear to emit a furious roar
Requires |
Roar of Rugalea is an Incantation in Elden Ring. It was added with the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. Roar of Rugalea spell emits a powerful roar that deals damage.
An incantation of what is jokingly called "the bear communion."
Channels the power of Rugalea, the great red bear.
Transform oneself into a great red bear and emit a mighty roar.
Charging increases potency.
An incantation that is more akin to the divine invocation of the hornsent than it is to the Dragon Communion. Only through desperate battle with the feral wild can one discover a god unique to oneself.
Where to find Roar of Rugalea
Where to find Roar of Rugalea:
- Dropped by Rugalea the Great Red Bear, located northwest of the "Ravine North" Site of Grace, in the wooded area with many Runebears on Rauh Base. [See Shadow of the Erdtree Map]

Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree Roar of Rugalea Video
Even though this is a literal joke steming from a mis-translation of dragon Communion, I wish they expanded on this religion more... Literally the land is their God.. very wiccan and cool.
According to my tests, based on the motion value spreadsheet, uncharged deals 355% of incantation scaling (not 110%, according to this wiki's description) and charged deals 1 initial hit of 250% incantation scaling + 10 hits of 30% incantation scaling + 1 hit of 100% incantation scaling in the middle of the 10 hits of 30% + 1 final hit of 200% incantation scaling, for a total of 850% incantation scaling. Of course, the 30% hits are completely destroyed by defenses due to being low hits, so the charged version is basically 60% stronger. But since this costs 17 FP only, even uncharged deals insane amounts of damage for its FP cost.

this is just wrath of the gods but better in every single way. and its only 14 faith? crazy. im running it with 50 arcane dragon communion seal and it shreds through groups
- Anonymous
You can buff this up to hit hard sure. But it's use is limited against tougher enemies. Have to be right on top of them to cast it for max effect and even the smallest of hits from enemy breaks it before it can cast. I use occasionally on lesser enemies. Wish had a little longer range .
- Anonymous
why did they have to add the stupid human voice screeching alongside the gangster bear roar. Why. Literally unusable.
- Anonymous
Dunno if I'm tripping but the params seem to list this as a breath attack, not a roar. That would mean it gets the weaker buff from the roar medallion (5%~10% instead of 15%) and no buff from highland axe.
- Anonymous
I did a bear priest using this with the bear claws and some fire and lightning incantations for coverage. Hits so hard with my golden order seal l, roar Talismans, flock canvas, Godfreys icon, pelt of ralva, 3 pieces of rakshasa Armour and bloodsucking crack tear
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
Hits through walls, stunlocks, aoe, looks cool. 10/10 spell for dungeon crawlers.
Bosses? Meh.
- Anonymous
Not being boosted by the highland axe has to be a mistake. It's literally called Roar right in the game. I hope they fix that.
- Anonymous
Why does it say Bestial Incantation? And why do people even assume that it would be? It has nothing to with the Beastmen of Farum Azula or their religion. Is the logic seriously just that bears = beasts??? Ridiculously dumb.
- Anonymous
Discovered this is amazing when assisting others with Malenia, basically a stun lock on her. Really gives the Host a power trip moment beating on her.
- Anonymous
I love dealing with 3 gankers that do nothing but spam this incant!
- Anonymous
Invader spamming this? If he's behind a corner or sum like that, use a big aoe move like bloodboon ritual. If they are in the open, take distance and use ranged options. I like to keep pata's with endure just for situations like this. Wanna win cheap? I'll give u a taste
- Anonymous
Wow I love this spell Flock canvas, roar medallion, pelt of ralva, max golden order seal, golden vow, flame Grant me strength and blood sucking cracked tear. This spell absolutely shrrads it's my favorite incant
- Anonymous
You can't do backstab while this incantation is on =(
The hit miss always.

shoutout to GANKEVISCERATOR on ps today who one shot some loser and his goon in the middle of liurnia with this spell and nothing else

Use it through walls and corners against ambushed imps in catacombs to give them another level of "surprise motherf***er".
- Anonymous
This + Pelt of Ralva + Rakshasa Set + Red Bear's Claw + Seal of Dragon Communion + Roar Medallion = Stephen Colbert's worst nightmare. Also one of the stupid funniest builds I've played in this game. You can also min/max with Flock's Canvass and Godfrey's Icon if you're nasty.
- Anonymous
"If I use it it's fun and counterable. If someone uses it against me it's op bullshit."
-Every balance comment on anything slightly usable
- Anonymous
I love how this only exists because people playing early builds of the game got out of bounds, killed a Runebear, and it dropped a Dragon Heart
- Anonymous
"Can headshot stagger" what? Do you have to clip their head and only their head with the very edge of the roar's hitbox, or does the stagger just automatically put the target into the same animation as a headshot would?
- Anonymous
Takes 1/3 to 1/2 of my health with no cue except a roar that usually comes out too fast to react to.
Give it hyperarmor, but don't let it go through walls.
- Anonymous
If this got a buff, I'm expecting a buff to Greyoll's roar. It needs multiple hitboxes.
- Anonymous
Beautiful spell! 333 Incant Scaling and 16 Scadutree Blessings - I'm hitting about 3500 damage on a Demi Human Swordmaster. *inhale* HRAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRGH
- Anonymous
Incantation version of Gravitational Missile. And a lot of ways to buff the damage. Highland Axe not working should be a bug, if Roar Medallion works then Highland should work.
- Anonymous
The lack of any hyper armour on an ability that is AoE on self is a gaming cardinal sin - but the damage, range, and knockback all make up for that one glaring shortcoming.
It's also very handy for farming low drop chance items like the Celebrant weapons.
- Anonymous
Who would win? A Legendary Incantation acquired from "the mother of all dragons,
dwarfing all who stood before her like a looming mountain" that costs 50 FP, and requires 2 slots, 28 Faith, and 17 Arcane. Or an incantation canonically considered to be a joke acquired from a random bear that costs 17 FP and requires 14 Faith.
- Anonymous
This may be one of the best incantations in the game now, as of the latest patch. Insane damage with very respectable range for very low Faith investment. On top of that it hits a short distance behind you, hits through walls, can turn on a dime for the second part of the charged version, has huge stagger potential as well as a knockdown effect at the end, and all for the low cost of 17 FP, which is extremely efficient for the widespread carnage it can cause.
About the only downside to it is that it renders you immobile for several seconds, during which time tanky bosses will punch you through it or spellslingers can throw a big hit your way from a distance. But like anything else, all it takes is some situational awareness to know when casting this is a bad idea.
It feels so crazy good that it's hard to justify using other close-to-midrange incantations over it for any reason other than flavour/fashion for your build. Equip the Blessed Blue Dew Talisman and Godfrey Icon and you'll shout to death most any mobs you find in the overworld and dungeons, with your FP recovered by the time you get to the next encounter.
This is almost certainly overtuned right now, and can be slotted into nearly any build with minimum investment. If you have a problem, this thing can solve it.

Is this a guaranteed drop upon boss defeat? I don't have it in my inventory after defeating Rugalea.

I beat the bear but it didn't drop it... Guess my game is bugged. Oh well, was gonna do ng+ anyway.

I think Catch Flame, then Stone of Gurranq, then Roar of Rugalea combos?
- Anonymous
I keep this on 100% of the time when being summoned as a cooperator because invaders never expect you to have this when they just run and camp corners.
- Anonymous
Its a great spell and anyone complaining about it being broken doesnt have the mental capacity to put 2 brain cells together and think of a counter to it
- Anonymous
Now after 1.13 I'm getting oneshotted by the guy in the mausoleum using this. Thank you, Miyazaki.
- Anonymous
Any reason why highland axe doesn't buff this, or is this just a bug?
- Anonymous
>sees noob with rakshaha armor and bear helmet.
> tries to come close and do bear roar
> get's lion's claw to the face and bonks down to 40% health
>noob panics and gets killed by homing spectral rings of light from friendly mage sniper , wondering why his one shot build isn't working
>proceed to throw dung and point down.

op but laaaame i needed to really turn into a bear like dragon man/freak guy

Someone using this will spam it when u get close. Keep ur distance, use something long like a halberd. When they pull ts, back off and pellet them with pulley crossbow w burred bolts. This is overtuned rn, needs a big nerf IN PVP ONLY
- Anonymous
This should be nerfed in pvp. Helping randoms & u see a nerd w a bear hood u alr know one shot is coming. Ts 2 tapped me at 60 vig and 50+% phys negation while behind the corner, host got obliterated lol. Overtuned af
- Anonymous
Jesus christ they overbuffed this. What's the point of wearing anything but the highest poise armor anymore? **** like this ruins games.
- Anonymous
Costs about 1/3 the FP that Greyolls costs. Casts about 3 times quicker. And only uses 1 slot. I'm a bear now.
- Anonymous
This + Roar Medallion + Pelt of Ralva + Greyoll's Roar debuff = say bye bye to gank squads. The range of this is also incredible. GOATed incantation now, love it.
- Anonymous
I’ve been playing around with this a lot in Pve. Most noteably this will do insane amounts of posture damage and both staggers and breaks Messemer. If used in coop it’s highly effective if used as someone else is attacking, so they’re right there to get the critical.

i adore fighting against someone spamming this behind the wall/corner. if someone spams this **** it's literally impossile to approach them.

Me and my friend are playing in NG+ at Yogi and Boo-Boo. Thrashing our way through the lands between going to bring respect to the name of Bear Communion.
- Anonymous
is it me or is this thing better than greyolls in term of damage ?
- Anonymous
There's no reason from a lore perspective why this should be boosted by bestial equipment but it feels bad regardless
- Anonymous
What's the best way to counter this spell? Some invader was camping at the top of the ladders at the Ruin Strewn Overlook when I joined as a blue ring hunter and anytime you tried to approach him from the ladder he would unleash the spell as your health proceeded to tank.

This Incant does physical damage which means it benefits from Rakshasa's armor, flame grant me strength. These two stack and with the pelt of ralva and are enough one shot most people wearing light/medium armor. (67 fth, roar medallion godfrey icon, fth talisman, erdtree seal). Still not enough damage? Power within AKA bloodsucking crystal tear will also stack and throw on a talisman that boosts damage on status proc like Lord of blood's exultation or St. Trina's Smile etc. With all that a charged up roar did 5310 damage to the stormveil castle troll. I dont know if any player could survive this attack with the right build lol.
- Anonymous
Pair it up with godfrey icon, roar medallion and the pelt of Ralva and become the bear you were destined to be
- Anonymous
This hits pretty damn hard now, tested the damage against the Troll outside Godrick's arena. with 353 Incantation scaling it did 1700 damage, incantation talisman only. So with Pelt of Ralva and Roar talisman it would hit way harder. Also in pvp it does between 700-1200 damage in a very large radius, with a fat lingering hitbox that will catch the majority of players who are somewhat close to you, or catch them off guard with its range. Gonna be a pretty insane spell for 2v2 or 3v3 after using Endure :)
- Anonymous
This hits really hard in both PvE and PvP after the buff, and the range on it is pretty ridiculous. 900 damage on full cast vs a full veteran's setup in the arena with 80 fth and an Erdtree Seal, both of us unbuffed. Capable of staggering at least an 87 poise setup with the first hit, need to do more testing to figure out exactly how much it can bust through. Seems like it's gonna be scariest on 50-60 faith spellsword builds that don't want WoG/Greyoll's due to either FP constraints or lack of investment in arcane.
- Anonymous
It deal quite decent damage now after the buff. The spell now goes through flat defense much easier thus dealing way more damage than before. The charge is quite fast and the FP cost is not too high either. The only issue is once you used it, you cannot roll out and is very vulnerable. But getting off the full spell is very satisfy with the big number and stance damage.
I was actually messing with this skill a couple nights ago, beating up the poor troll at secluded cell, and I was only able to get about 2.1k damage per cast on the troll. After the buff today, I was able to squeeze out over double the damage, and I managed to break the troll's poise on the second cast, which never happened previously. Pretty impressive buff for it.

- Anonymous
S tier for pvp/mob clear, built around buffing it to the max without any work, I ran endure to combat its stagger weakness but I was able to obliterate invaders and the invaded. the uncharged is deceptively good.
- Anonymous
Rune Bears used to drop dragon hearts and they got dragon eyes.. the implications and jokes lead to this spell likely.
- Anonymous
i love holding the cast button a fraction of a second too long and i get stuck in a 2nd roar for another 5 seconds. still dope spell though now with the buff
- Anonymous
This incant has been MASSIVELY buffed as of 1.13. It can 1 shot players in PvP.
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
Landed only the first portion on someone in pvp after the patch. It did 900 damage. No bear hood, nothing.
Oh boy..
- Anonymous
decided to do a tank build for another run through the DLC using opaline tear + blackflame protect me + golden vow + greatshield talisman + blue branch + endure while wearing heavy armor for above 90% damage reduction. i tanked multiple mesmer soldiers + a black knight at once for fun and watched a black knight boss try to kill me while i was below 20% triggering my blue branch and i just looked at him with a fat grin while he was doing measly like 100 damage per combo, but this red bear npc for some reason straight up one-shot with this roar with all my buffs besides endure active and it wasn't even counterhit damage. i had 80% damage reduction and full health when he did that.
i am still confused to say the least...
- Anonymous
You're gonna want to try it after today's v1.13 patch. The bark has real bite now.
- Anonymous
With the current buff it does about 1K-1.5K so its a good option for a blue dancer build that run phsyical damage spells like dragon maw and the boulder as its going to be your fastest incantions
- Anonymous
Another incantation that I believe has potential but just needs a buff
- Anonymous
To everyone probably confused by this spell it is probably a joke and nothing more. Back in the latest days Rune Bears used to drop Dragon Hearts and people would joke and some even theorized about Rune Bears being related to dragons somehow. So FromSoft most likely saw this and decided to capitalize on it and make a joke spell out of it
- Anonymous
possibly to be used to break the statues with the items in it, like the rune bear does at the hermit's shack on the statue just below Volcano Manor area, could be other uses like send monsters of cliffs lol
- Anonymous
I don't understand why they made an entire school for one incant when we already have beastial incantations
- Anonymous
Is there a bug with this incantation? anyone else getting double or more the FP cost when cast a second time and charged?
- Anonymous
Why is this so mediocre? I swear From just wants to funnel everyone into dual katana twink dex builds.
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
So, messed around a bit with this spell, and yeah dmg is absolutely awful, but one thing i noticed it that it has surprisingly long range, bigger than even Greyroll's i think.
So i wonder, maybe this spell isnt really meant for dmg, but rather for CC more than anything, since it pushes enemies back, can have uses with gravity as well.
Its also the bane of flying enemies, we have a new method to screw them over, its a day to celebrate.
- Anonymous
this needs be given a spell-type that can be buffed with a seal at least. was so looking forward to this from the trailer

Imagine that you use it for AOE damages by spending 0 FP, You'll use it or not in pvp?
But I'll do it ....zero time.

Arcane + Faith build; Pelt of Ralva; Godfrey icon, Roar Medallion, Flock's canvas talisman.
Wield Dragon communion seal +10 and Highland axe with Braggart's Roar.
You will one-shot camps and hordes of small enemies, it is extremely fun; useless, underwhelming at best, in every other scenario but worth it
- Anonymous
It's literally labeled as "Bear Incantation" in the internal files. The guys at From can be such jesters.
I'm on update 1.12.0, so dunno if they switched it to Bestial Incantations in the newer patches, otherwise this will not benefit from Clawmark Seal or Cinquedea. Same thing with Light of Miquella, it doesn't have the "Miquella Incantation" label, so it won't benefit from it's respective talisman.
- Anonymous
Even though this is listed in the bestial Incatations section Roar of Rugalea is not effected by the Cinquedea. On the generic Beastmen of Faram Im geting a full charge doing 1020 with the Cinquedea, and 1020 with the sword lance (also using Clawmark +25, Pelt of Ralva, Faithful's Canvas Talisman, Roar Medallion, Godfrey Icon 83 str 50 Faith). So either this is broken in patch 1.12.3 or it isnt actually a beastial incantation, the description says it is "more akin to an invocation of the hornsent" And if im using the Spiral Tree Seal I get 688 if the Clawmark is in my off hand or not.
- Anonymous
it is in the bestial incantation type and a roar and deal physical damage, but it doesn't say it gains nothing from either the clawmark seal, blue dancer, highland axe or cinquedea. Is it missing info or is it like this?
- Anonymous
I get that it couldn’t really be as good as greyoll’s roar because at one spell slot vs two it would replace it but did it have to be so utterly garbage? You trundle up to the far off north of the map to hunt down a super charged version of an already tough enemy only to come away with an incant that tickles anything bigger than a standard mob and offers no debuffs. The damn attack can’t even out perform the troll roar ash of war. Yeah I get it: it’s supposed to be a joke attack. But you know what else is a joke attack and actually dangerous? Lightning ram.

next game they better go full bore on animal spells, I wanna play a druid
- Anonymous
Can anyone explain how this works? One day I was invaded by another player who one-shotted me with this spell for all 2000 HP, and when I use it with 60 fth, I don’t do more than 150 damage.
Trust me this is mid now, but once they roll out an actual buff patch and this get poise and roars boosts it'll be a monster
- Anonymous
you don't have to charge it all the way to do the higher damage/knockback roar, you can press the button twice to skip the smaller hits. does less total damage obviously but good utility
Also, should be affected by clawmark seal btw, would be a fun choice for STR builds.
