Root Resin is a Crafting Material in Elden Ring. Crafting Materials are resources that can be obtained throughout The Lands Between and used to create a wide variety of items.

The roots of the Greattree were once linked to those of the Erdtree,
or so they say,
and it is for this reason catacombs are built around Greattree roots.

Root Resin found in the overworld respawns after resting at a Site of Grace.
IN THE WORLD
- Grows in Limgrave, Weeping Peninsula, and Liurnia of the Lakes.
- Most typically found near the roots of minor Erdtrees and catacomb boss arenas
- 4x in the trees just outside Groveside Cave
- Looted from a corpse buried under some jars, atop a ladder in Gelmir Hero's Grave [Elden Ring Map Link]

Farming locations
- Warmaster's Shack: Three are about ten meters east of the Site of Grace. There are six more in the woods nearby; head north-east along the cliff for two, then go north-west until due north of the shack for two more, then head south-west for another two, which leaves you a short distance from the Site of Grace. Using Torrent, this loop takes under 40 seconds for nine pickups.
- Revenger's Shack: Three are about ten meters west of the Site of Grace. Another two are a short distance north-east of the Site of Grace.

Just a correction on the warmaster's shack farming:
Head NORTH-EAST, like 45' 45' north-east, to find 3 resins 2 steps away.
Hug the cliff to your right, until before the enemy camp, for another 2.
Continue hugging the cliff until you find a stone wormy enemy, other 2 resins.
Rinse and Repeat.

The revengers shack run nets you 5 root resin, 2 rowa fruit, 3 mushroom, and 2 crystal buds in about 25 seconds. I know this is old, but figured with dlc coming out, people would want to know.

There are 3 by a tree directly south of the Ailing Village Outskirts site of grace in Weeping Peninsula. No annoying fence in the way and about the same distance away as the other places mentioned.

For anyone needing to farm, there's a tree with 3 Root Resin nodes directly west of the Revenger's Shack grace in Liurnia. Super short walk back to the grace to respawn them

Thank you for this!! I found 16 pickups there, though there could be more. Creating a route here is pretty tough, so I uploaded a video of mine. Search youtube for "16 behind Caria Manor"
The really cool thing about this spot is that there's a lot of other resources in the graveyard, so if you like any of them, just add them into your route.

I'm surprised there is no mention of the gravestones behind Caria Manor there is a large concentration of them there more than I've seen anywhere else. There is a convenient grace to reset and the inseparable sword or sacred blade AoW on a different sword will make light work of the skeletons that will rise. Top tier place to farm a lot of root resin and not two or three at a time.

I know people wish most materials were able to be purchased, but these common ones that respawn i kind of liked trying to find the best spots to farm and take into account possibility of farming other materials or items in same are. Theres lots of spots that once you know them farming isnt too bad.

It's silly that we still have to farm such a basic mat in the end game, NG+ and beyond because for some reason it isn't included in any bell bearings or sold by any merchants. Just... why? Greases are weaker than their spell buff counterparts anyway, and the unique ones have other rare or even finite mats like aeonian butterflies or gravel stones to worry about. It doesn't enrich the game experience to farm root resin at the warmaster's shack for an hour so you'll have blood grease for a while. Just let me spend runes on it.

I've found another 3-node cluster a few steps directly west from Revenger's Shack, West Liurnia, north of the Minor Erd Tree. Tested both farms, they yield about the same, over 100 ROOT RESIN IN 5 MINUTES!

Wiki is incorrect, there's only 2 nodes outside Groveside Grave. However there is 3 nodes right next to Warmaster Shack Grace.

The root resin is not "Northeast" of Warmaster's Shack, it is directly east.

After grabbing the 3 resins near the Warmaster's Shack, you can travel NW and find a tree with 2 more, and continue NW towards the structure, there is another tree with 3 more for a total 8 spawns per reload, not too shabby eh?

There's three patches maybe five feet to the south of the Ailing Village Outskirts grace. Probably the fastest farm.

Revenger's Shack in Liurnia is my favorite spot to farm these, if you're still in Limgrave the forest just north-northwest of the Church of Elleh has a few throughout. This page doesn't mention it but there's also a Poison Grease you can craft with this -- recipe is Nomadic Warrior's Cookbook 8 from Tombsward Cave in the Weeping Peninsula.

Revengers Shack has 5 pickups of this close by, 2 crystal buds, 2 gold excrement, 2 rowa fruit, and an erdleaf flower all really close. Really good place if you need any of those

If you want to farm these, head to the Warmaster's Shack in Limgrave. Walk east and you will find 3 resins next to a tree. Grab them all, and rest at the grace. They respawn every time you rest.

Farming Technique: From Deathtouched Catacombs grace (Limgrave) head straight down to the boss room. One resin is half way down, and two are in the two far corners of the boss room. Warp back to grace and repeat.
Each run lasts 30 seconds and awards 3 to 9 Root Resin.

The "Dissenter's Cave" (camped under the fallen ruin chunk southeast of coastal cave entrance) merchant does not sell root resin.

You can farm them in the Road's End Catacombs, just before the Spirit Summoning Snail fight. You can use the Statue outside to respawn, and you can die to the boss, or use self damage to kill yourself and respawn, netting 4 resin per run. It may not be the fastest, but wanted to document it

The resin from the Erdtree looks like rot based on what I seen in Caelid.
I'm curious to learn more about this Scarlet Rot. It's certainly interesting to see the idea of the world being rotted away after Ashes of the Ariandel DLC dabbled in this idea.
It reminds me of the days of when despite things being self contained, there are fun things that could link the games together in unique ways if you subscribe to the idea of a shared universe.

Found a very good place to easily farm it (at least works for me so far): go to warmaster's shack grace and go north-east 10 meters or so until you reach first trees, there you should find 3 resins that reset each time you sit down on your grace

3 spaws like 12 feet north of the warmaster's shack site of grace. It is also super close to the two lava slimes northeast that spawn like 12 of the fire butterflies. Enjoy infinite fire grease!

Warmaster's Shack confirmed. It's in the Stormhill, almost directly north of the Gatefront.
If you're at Stormhill Shack, follow the road east and you'll find the Warmaster's Shack

You can farm these very easily by clearing "Deathtouched Catacombs". The final boss arena has two spawns that reset on rest. Run in, grab them, use teleport, repeat.
